The music was a pulse in the air. Vibrating against his skin in waves, looking like it was driving everybody else in the low ceilinged room into some sort of trance. Bodies bumping, grinding, looking like they’d been caught in some sort of electrical current in some cases. All of them obviously finding something he wasn’t in the sound of it.
Cory lifted his arms, trying to get his elbows out of the way as a couple of girls bumped into him giggling. One shimmied against his back, her hands catching his hips and making him jump anxiously. He pulled away, literally in the end as her fingers slid into the belt loops on his jeans and tried to haul him back. ”Just g-getting a drink,” he stammered out. There were dozens of concoctions listed on the menus at the bar, bottles glittering like trophies behind the bar but he hadn’t approached it to pick one out since he’d arrived. Too much variety, a stomach too raw and untrained to pour raw liquor into even if Leah had been right and none of that could get to him anymore. He’d just never been a drinker, not even when he was at college and the world he’d missed out on up until then had been thrown wide open.
Typical college rites of passage had sailed by him without him even noticing. Alcohol, fraternities, clubs like this one. All a faint background noise to his own college experience. He’d kept his head down then, more concerned with his studies and getting out into the wide world of work so Dani wouldn’t have to support him anymore. Dying the way he had left the odd regret about it. If he’d been like all of this lot would he had have died the way he had in the first place? That was a question he didn’t want to pry in to. Not when his second chance at life was as sticky as this damn floor.
Eyes raking the crowd for the coed who was meant to slip away under the influence tonight, Cory scuttled among those writhing bodies, trying to avoid contact with any of them. He couldn’t lose himself in all of this. There was a natural order to keep, Death, the freaking Grim Reaper, had told him that much when he’d caught him in town. Matters had been settled in a way, had quieted the Reaper who had taken up residence when he’d sprung him from Heaven for the most part, but he was still what he was. Had to do what he did.
There was a flash of flame red hair near the booths that stretched along one wall. The girl. Cory felt that tug in the pit of his stomach and started through the crowd. She headed out the side door, slipped out an emergency exit into the alleyway that ran along one side of the building. By the time he pushed his way out of it she was already slumped against a wall, head rolled back, pale, slick with a flop sweat, vomit rolled from one corner of her mouth. He hadn’t taken that long had he? Desperately he fell to his knees next to her, fumbled fingers at her throat. Still warm but there wasn’t so much as a flutter in her throat. ’”Don’t do it’. The voice in his head shot the same warning as Death had. You didn’t mess with it. They died when they were destined to. If you started fooling around with it, there were consequences.
A cool hand touched his shoulder then, had him flinching away. The girl. She was sad, tears rolling down her face in regret but when he gave her the choice of moving on, the warning about what would happen if she chose not to, she simply slipped her smaller hand in his and told him it was alright.
Half an hour later he was back in the club. Nothing had changed for anybody in there. The place was still heaving. Reeking of sweat, perfume and alcohol. Bypassing her friends who were dancing with abandon, not even aware that their friend was gone, Cory pushed through to the bar, bottles lay in neat rows behind the bar, drinks half drunk or fresh in a ragged line along that stretch of mahogany. He stared at them until he saw one of the bartender’s approaching”Pour me one of those. Make it a big one,” he breathed, lifting his chin to whatever the curvy blonde perched on the stool next to him was drinking. He just wanted to burn the image of the girl out of his brain, if that was even possible. As it was set down in front of him he glanced past her, saw another tumble of hair, just as blonde, the face so achingly familiar that it unclenched that knot in his stomach. Someone who understood. ”Leah…” Another croak, half a plea this time that he hoped she heard over the thud of the music.

The air was thick. Heavy with the heat coming from the bodies on the dancefloor, one of which was Leah’s. A male had his hands firmly snaked around her body as she pushed back into him, with no intention of filling that blank space in the bed with him that evening. She was just there for the free drinks and compliments, both of which were never enough. He had been easy enough to convince. Standing at the bar, looking out of place, as though he’d never been inside a nightclub before. That’s what Leah stepped in. Told him she loved his shirt and he smelt amazing. Only partly true. His aftershave was prominent but the shirt was subpar. She hadn’t always been the type of girl with a stranger's hand exploring her body in a dark nightclub, rather putting distance between herself and any man. It had been drilled into her that she was a wolf and there was a chance she could hurt someone or worst kill someone. An act that would forever show in her eyes during a full moon. Along with that and her frosty exterior, she didn’t bother pursuing any kind of relationship, but things were different now. There was no risk of her hurting them, physically, only emotionally when she left during the night without saying goodbye. The whole pursuing a relationship was dead in the water still. She was immortal now so there was no need for boyfriends or husbands, just casual hookups. No marriage, no children, no grandchildren. Not that she minded. Children made her blood run cold and marriage was a waste of money. All relationships were deemed to fail and no piece of paper would save that. Perhaps she was right. The male behind had never been to a nightclub before and never danced with a girl before. His rhythm was out of sync with Leah and his body was as stiff as a board. As though his joints were struggling to move at all. She wouldn’t be having this problem with Remzi. Their bodies connected in a way she’d never experienced before. Everything they did was in sync, without forcing it to be. She spun around to face the male, but as she did so he stood on her left foot. Leah sighed, rolling her eyes as she did so, “If you have no rhythm here then you have no rhythm in the bedroom… I’ve dealt with actual dead bodies that have more movement in them than you” With a tut she pushed past the stranger, heading back towards the bar. At least she’d many to squeeze a few drinks out of the dancing corpse, but she wasn’t about to waste another second on him. As she approached the bar she spotted another male looking out of place. Standing rigidly at the bar awaiting his order, but this was one she recognized in an instant. Her saviour. Leah nudged her way to the front of the bar, leaving behind a few sighs and mutters of other customers, before sliding onto the chair next to the reaper, “Cory” She beamed, a grin on her face. As the employee returned to the pair, a bottle in one hand and shot glass in the other, Leah shooed the bartender away, “He’s changed his mind” She grabbed Cory by the arm, as she slid off the stool and pulled him away from the bar, “Drinks are cheaper downstairs and usually better quality” She spoke as she dragged her co-worker through the crowd, towards the not so hidden door and down the dimly lit staircase, “Plus you don’t want be lingering with those sweaty humans upstairs” The exact type of human she’d just had pressed against her frame. The pair swiftly approached the entrance, “Good evening Leah” The bouncer grumbled, eyes flicking between the reapers. “He’s a reaper as well” The bouncer gave the two a short nod before Leah tugged Cory through the door and into the bar, “So this is Emerald City. It’s like some exclusive club for immortals… mainly vampires but we’re invited too”HANNYA & CORY COLLIER

━ make you beg for it, plead for it, until you feel like you breathe for it ━ HANNYA WAS BEGINNING TO warm up to Mystic Falls. It was still a stupid, little mortal town, but those inside it had proven to be entertaining. And Joel, fuck, that fucking bumpkin had the human within her keening like there was no tomorrow. He had too much of an eye on the club, though, and Hannya wasn’t about to let him ruin her fun. These little playthings were only allowed to add to it.
Speaking of, her host’s soft, hazel eyes bounced to the bar as she passed, soaking up each of the workers until finding her sweet, stupid little vampire. Hannya blew him a kiss before moving on, finding another patron to occupy her time with, searching for the jealousy she hoped would seep from Lawrence again as it had with Hector.
But then Hannya’s gift arrived at the door, wrapped all pretty and with an extra present, too. Slipping away from the phoenix in human form, the demon didn’t even glance over her shoulder once her eyes were on the blonde reaper, strutting across the floor in a B-line to her target. Hannya’s dress hung from her hips, gathering tight over her small waist before draping down, barely leaving enough fabric to reach her thighs, especially obvious with each step she took.
“Hey, sweet thing,” She grinned slyly, slipping a hand around to cradle the other blonde’s head, greeting her with a kiss on the lips. “Good t’see ya.” As if the reaper wasn’t here all the time, though lately she’d been distracted with the male sort. And perhaps she still was, but Hannya was in a mood to toil, prod and poke at things she wasn’t meant to, and this seemed like the perfect relationship to intervene in. “And ya brought your boyfriend.” Hannya mused, looking up at the giant specimen to the reaper’s side, another of the same. And, just like the blonde, Hannya greeted him with her mouth on his━though she had to travel much further. He was about Joel’s height, Hannya decided, also coming to find that she liked the men better this way. There were too many nowadays that were just awfully small, and that wasn’t fun whatsoever. With more body came more testosterone, and men were fickle things━easy to manipulate.
But this one was damn near shakin’ in his boots. “You alright, sugar cakes? Lookin’ like a long-tailed cat in a room fulla rockin’ chairs.” Hannya cackled, as she pulled back an inch to look at him, palm on the centre of his chest to steady herself. “Don’ worry. I’ll make sure me an’ your friend here are the only ones bitin’ ya.” She winked, stepping away only about an inch before reaching out to grab the woman’s hand, focus shifted back to her. “You two want somethin’ t’drink?” But she was guiding them towards the bar anyway, “I’ll have my pretty little thing fix you both up somethin’ nice.” And, as if she’d completely forgotten about her previous endeavours, Hannya flashed Lawrence a snide look━like he wasn’t worth the energy it took to open her mouth and ask for drinks.

Out of his depth Cory had been stumbling through the wave of the crowd tonight. There not out of choice – he never would be in a place like this, it was all spotlight, no place for him to lurk at the edges, half invisible in a way he didn’t need to engage his powers to achieve. That was where he’d always been happiest, watching others happily take centre stage. It wasn’t his place and even with Augustus riding shotgun and Death’s hand on his shoulder, steering with an iron grip he couldn’t escape, he couldn’t make it be.
Stomach churning from what he’d had to do he folded onto a stool at the bar. Arms and still gangly legs tucked in tight to try and avoid contact with anybody in here til he stopped feeling so raw. The breath he let out was shaky as the bartender moved away to get his drink, a quiver that wouldn’t settle until he was days away from this thing and the currently crystal sharp image of that girl in the alley softened at the edges in the pit of his stomach. He curled his hands on the edge of the bar, throat aching for the cleansing burn of the alcohol. The bartender was right there in front, the glass an inch from the mahogany and like some sort of guardian angel Leah melted out of the crowd.
Most reapers kept to themselves. Blinkers in place, centuries of reaping souls driving any remnants of humanity out of them. All that was left was the cold countenance of death. Cory swallowed hard, his hand coming up to knuckle over dry lips. ”W-what are you doing here? I got her … the girl.” He shifted on his seat, glancing over his shoulder anxiously like a shift in the tide of the crowd would reveal another body. The snap of whatever connected them to the souls suddenly cut loose tight enough to drag him from the bar. There was nothing though. His brow furrowed deep, his mouth hanging open as Leah shooed the bartender away, grabbing him by the arm. What? He hadn’t.
He stumbled to his feet, long legs almost spilling him to the stick floor in the effort of keeping up. Cory flapped a hand back towards the bar. ”I needed that,” he said weakly. ”There was a girl … outside.” Another hard swallow kept him from choking on that invisible fist that gripped at his throat. Grabbing her arm, he tried to slow Leah down but she was always pulling him towards a door. ”What do you mean downstairs? I just wanted a couple of drinks and then out of here…” Humans. There were things much worse than that in town and …
Feeling like a kid out of his depth, Cory let himself be dragged, his mouth open and flapping like a landed fish. He tried dragging at Leah’s elbow, glancing back at the bouncer as they shot past. ”You’re not meant to go announcing it,” he hissed. Secrecy was one of the tenets of what they were. You were didn’t advertise but Leah had dropped it so casually. Slowing as they entered, Cory hunched his shoulders in. ”Invited to sit around and share life stories while we have a drink?” he asked hoarsely. It seemed like it’d go against every one of the big man’s rules but Leah was the sort who knew where the lines were and stepped over. Maybe that was what left him feeling more comfortable around her than the others, there was something that reminded him of Brooke around her. So ballsy, not afraid of anything.
Another blonde slipped across the room. Curvier than Leah, all confidence and focus. Cory wanted to squirm. He started trying to pull away from Leah but her grip was like steel. No way out. He stood, trying not to squirm as the new blonde kissed Leah, giving him a seriously up close show. Cory stared down at his feet, seemingly the only semi-safe space until she called him Leah’s boyfriend. ”I’m not,” he shot back instantly, blue eyes going wide. ”I … uh … I work with Leah, it’s not…” What she thought? Given what he’d just seen the two women were close enough that the other would’ve probably know if he’d…
Heat started to work its way up Cory’s face an instant before she was pressing up on her toes and kissing him too. He froze in it, eyes still blown wide, a sensuous mouth brushing over his and geeze. A tremor ran through him, he didn’t know where to go with this, what to do apart from stand there statue still until she dropped away from him again. Cory pressed his lips together, unsure whether to share his head or nod. ”B-biting?” he stammered. ”Leah.” Her name emerged as a croak, half a plea. This wasn’t his place anymore than upstairs was. ”I was getting one upstairs. Leah saw me, she … I need one.” His gaze skittered between the women and the man at the bar, looking for some sort of way out from the guy.

She was never going to find herself in a conventional relationship. Waiting for her husband to get home from work, sharing meals before getting their kids ready for bed to do it all again the next day. It sounded like living hell. She wanted a relationship full of chaos, passion and jealousy. It was something she found in Remzi in an instant, if not more. Leah was feeding off Cory's nerves. She wanted him to be anxious and look back at her for support. Obviously, she wasn’t going to offer any, rather drag him down the stairs and into the chaos. Into somewhere he didn’t belong and knew it. The girl? Leah winged a brow as she looked over at Cory. “What girl?” She didn't really care though, “I’m here for a drink not to pick up stupid souls” Though there would probably be a few waiting downstairs by the end of the night. Each of them waiting for their lift to the afterlife. He was still yapping about that girl as they weaved through the crowd with purpose. At least Leah did, flashing a look at anyone who dared to stand in her way or didn’t move quick enough. She could feel the other reaper trying to resist her pull, but she only gripped him tighter. There was more to life than being Death’s little bitch and she was determined to show him that. Peel back his sheltered life, exposing him to some uncensored fun. More stuttering words came from Cory's mouth as Leah announced them to the bouncer before tugging him inside. “Drink, chat, dance… maybe something more if you play your cards right” He probably had no idea how to even play his cards, never mind doing it right. As expected the demon was inside, draping herself over whoever she wanted. A smirk on Leah’s face as she made eye contact with Hannya, who abandoned her piece to make her way over to them. “Hey” Finally she let go of Cory’s wrist and eased forward as the other female embraced her, pressing her lips against those soft ones she’d felt before. Last time it was with more passion, but the pair were in public for now. As they broke apart, she looked over at Cory knowing he felt uncomfortable watching. He’d probably never seen two females kiss before in real life, only on a screen. “See. We’re all friends here” She glanced back over at Hannya, a sharp laugh as she asked if Cory was her boyfriend. Again, he was struggling to get his words out, stumbling over every other letter. “Nah. He wouldn’t last a day with me… This is Cory, he’s a reaper as well. He’s an innocent one, ain’t ya” She nudged him gently, as she laughed again, watching Hannya reach up for a kiss. Leah slipped her hand into the demons, her other hand taking hold of Cory yet again. Guiding them through another crowd, though this was easier to navigate and people were quick to move out the way for Hannya. “I’d love a drink and so would Cory” She leaned against the bar, letting go of her co-worker once again as her eyes fell on the cute vampire behind the bar. The one who kept telling her to pay her tab, “Two double vodka sodas” The vampire’s eyes darted between the three of them. He offered a ‘good luck’ comment to Cory before turning back to get their drinks. “He’s never been down here before so I thought we could show him the ropes y’know. Show him what he’s been missing out on” The two had shared stories whilst Leah was on the other side, albeit some of hers were white lies, but it quickly became apparent Cory had spent his life stuck in his comfort zone. As though he was terrified to leave and she was ready to yank him straight out of it with Hannya’s help. HANNYA & CORY COLLIER

━ make you beg for it, plead for it, until you feel like you breathe for it ━ SHE HADN’T MEANT ‘BOYFRIEND’ in the literal sense, though she knew the use of the word would have the gentle giant squirming, and Hannya wasn’t disappointed. “I can tell,” She mused at Leah’s comment about his innocence, lifting a hand to gently brush the backs of her fingers down his cheek. “Sweet little thing, ain’tcha?” She looked forward to tearing that out of him.
“Yes, bitin’, baby. Lotsa vampires down here, but I ain’t gonna get a taste of ya like that. I promise t’be gentle.” Maybe at first━to stave off scaring him━but it wasn’t likely to last long. She had to draw that inner beast out of him somehow; he wasn’t a delicate little human, after all, he could take it.
Leading them both to the bar with the leash that was Leah’s hand, Hannya flashed Lawrence a narrowed-eye look at his comment. She was eager to threaten him with the consequences that came from scaring off their customers, but she suppressed it for Cory’s sake; he didn’t need another reason to be nervous. He looked like he was about to piss himself in fear━she suppressed that comment, too.
“Ooh, there’s nothin’ I love more than a fresh face.” Hannya snickered, winking at Cory as their drinks were presented. “Well, welcome t’my little palace, Cory. Glad ya made your way down,” She broke from the counter and Leah to sidle up to him again, this time tipping her head back to stare up at Cory’s face, one arm wrapped around his waist. The other extended to grab his drink, pressing the cool glass to the centre of his chest. “Here ya go, sugar. Anyone ever tell ya you got the prettiest eyes?” Hannya beamed, the palm at his back splaying hotly over the dip in his spine. “Careful though, somebody’s gonna want some of that for themselves. You better stick close to me and Leah, hm, sweetness?” Not that either of them would be any less greedy, but at least he wouldn’t have to worry about getting hurt━whether or not it would heal.

Each misstep since he’d said yes to Augustus had been like plunging into that lake again. The ground suddenly disappearing out from beneath him, the shock that tried to freeze his lungs in his chest, a chill that rushed right up from his toes to sit like a ball of ice in his chest. Fear. Cory couldn’t escape that. He’d been almost scared of his shadow as a kid, the sort that’d jump at just about anything until it started to burn away as the chemo was pushed into his body. You couldn’t be scared if you were facing down something like leukaemia, the fear would eat you up faster than the cancer – at least that was what some old dude getting his treatment at the same department had told him. One bloodshot blue eye had winked. A month later he’d seen the man’s family sobbing in the family room. It should’ve had him back to his old ways but he’d plunged on through that boggy ground and had kept himself going til the lake.
This was just as bad, the fear sinking teeth into him, stealing his breath for a minute as he tried to explain to explain why he was there. More of the bitter cold from Leah instead of the sympathy she’d once feigned. Cory swallowed hard, the liquor he had managed to down the only thing burning in him and that was trying to rush up his throat. ”She’s gone,” he muttered in weak explanation. ”I took her to where she had to go.” Stupid souls. Brows furrowing, Cory felt that barb in his chest, snagging at his heart. He might not’ve wanted to do this but he was still trying to do the right thing and the Professor had been the first giant leap for reaper kind – at least his kind – with that.
He tripped along with Leah like a puppy still growing into his feet, feeling just as awkward as he glanced around the place. His hand flexed on her arm but Leah didn’t slow down, she was a battering ram, which felt ridiculous given how much smaller than her he was. ”Leah, I don’t need anything more, I was just gonna have a drink and go…” More than one, enough to burn the images out of his head but spotting Leah had dropped him neck deep into those dark, unknown depths.
They were getting darker, more unfamiliar as Leah and her friend kissed, making it a little clearer what something more might’ve been before both blondes turned their attention on him. Friends, yeah, Cory knew how that had worked out with Leah the first time. Friends with a different kind of an F if this was anything to go by. Cory looked up at the other blonde from under his lashes, squirming on the spot as her fingers brushed lightly over his cheek. ”I did before…” he tried to argue, but that hadn’t been like this. Meeting Leah for the first time he’d been suckered in, only seeing what Leah had wanted him to. Now she was doing the same, blushing furiously as Leah nudged him. He knew she was taking a swipe at him in some way.
Cory’s pulse thudded in his throat. He’d seen plenty with their throats torn out, had gathered up their souls with apologies for what they’d gone through. Blood everywhere. So strong in the air he’d tasted it for hours before. Not the way Danielle was doing it, she wasn’t hurting people. ”P-please,” Cory mumbled. He wanted to bolt but it felt like there was no escape from down here.
It took Leah’s grip on him to steer him through a different sort of crowd to the bar. Cory squirmed away as he bumped up against people, glad that most were skittering away – although that might not’ve been a good sign when it came to Leah’s friend. Usually he hated the taste of liquor but now he was almost desperate for it. Sea glass eyes went wide at the bartender. He tried pulling away but Leah was anchoring him there. Trapped. ”I d-didn’t even know there was a d-down here,” Cory mumbled. ”I don’t even c-come the club unless I have to. I was working.” Augustus laughed in the back of his head, low, amused, shifting like he was far more comfortable here than his host.
He looked at Hannya as he fumbled for his drink. A deep gulp of it would fill his chest with heat. Not enough to get rid of the shock but enough that he could actually breathe now and didn’t leap away like a startled deer when she slid an arm around his waist. She took his drink, pressed it against his chest. Cory reached up slowly to grab it. ”N-not like you,” he managed tightly. His mom, Brooke when she wanted to get a rise out of him, as she seemed to often. Slowly Cory glanced around himself. ”It’s that bad down here? Leah, why did you drag me down here?” He pressed closer to Hannya like the queen bee herself was going to be able to protect him, a gulp of his drink big enough to choke him practically inhaled as he wrapped an arm around Hannya and gripped, his lifeline in this storm.

The two had been handed a gift by Death. Eternal life. A life that was liberating (bar that stupid ring in their head to collect a old woman who’d tripped over her cat). Apart from that, they could do whatever they wanted. They were no longer constrained by the restrictions of a human life. Illness, disease or old age. Damn, they could jump from the top of a building and survive. She wanted Cory to see all this, instead of hiding behind his job. With the rise of rogue reapers, it was unlikely Death would dismiss Leah for being a little reckless. He needed all the loyalty he could get. She was happy to play the dedicated reaper if it got her some points on her scorecard. Although she would never reach the same score as Elias. The one with his head buried so deep in the boss’ rear end. Maybe he was her next target. Show him that breaking the rules can be fun. Life didn’t need to be lived by a list of dos and don’ts, but he would be a harder one to crack. A flash of her cleavage wouldn’t have him pandering to her. He was still going on about this girl. “Good boy” She purred back to him, fingers clasping tightly around his. Doing what he was told to do by taking the soul wherever she needed to be. Her attention was only pulled back to Cory when he spoke her name. “Of course you were” She muttered to herself, determined to get them downstairs. Introduce the timid reaper to Hannya. A sweet little thing as Hannya pointed out. The colour rising in Cory’s cheeks, those nerves rattling around inside him. Leah wanted to give him a good shake and tell him to get it together as he stuttered. Words became stuck in his throat like glue. “They’re not gonna bite you… and even if they do you’ll live. It’s quite exciting though” Those rare moments she allowed Remzi to sink his teeth into her were the best. The pain mixed with arousal was a high within itself. Sharing something with him that he craved so badly, but most of the time she’d dangle it over him. Happy to slide a blade of glass along her delicate skin to watch him change. It was intoxicating. But there was no sign of Remzi tonight. She’d even scanned the club upstairs for a sign of the masculine vampire. Cory would have to be her entertainment for the night. A drink was in her hand soon enough. Another glass was pushed towards Cory by Hannya. A smirk on her lips as she watched the pair, “Exactly. Now it’s time to relax. Enjoy yourself” Ignore that tug from Death if necessary. She wasn’t going to let him slip away so easily and it was apparent Hannya wasn’t either. A scoff from Leah before she took a sip from her drink. She swallowed the liquor quickly, “Firstly, we’re immortal. Nothing down here can kill us… not even these stupid vampires” Her left hand gestured toward the rest of the bar, before gesturing towards the Candian bartender whose name she could never remember. He was just the bartender who always asked her to pay her bill. Nonetheless, he didn’t look impressed by her comment. “Secondly” Her attention was back on the pair as she took another sip of her drink, the liquid running smoothly down her throat, “It’s not that bad in here, but like Hannya said stick close to us and you’ll be good” They were his knight in shining armour. Of course, she would protect Cory if needed. Possibly the very few people in the world she’d step up for. “It ain’t just the bar here either. There are some fun rooms as well. We could give you a tour?” Shooting the demon a look as she spoke. They could show him every inch of the bar. HANNYA & CORY COLLIER

She was far blunter than Hannya would have been, but the demon eased the singe with a gentle rub on his lower back, keeping him close. “And what’s like me, sugar?” Hannya crooned, grinning devilishly up at him. Perhaps he knew what they were up to and couldn’t describe it, or he was too distracted with everything around him. He seemed to take Hannya’s words to heart, though, so he couldn’t be that scared.
With one of his long arms around her, tucked into the dramatic curves of her body, Hannya considered him a success already. He had nowhere to go, and the only people he knew were right here. He had to trust them. Listening to Leah spout off her two reasons as to why Cory needed to calm down and stick with them, Hannya let her finish before leaning in, nosing the warm column of his throat. “I promise t’protect ya, baby. We’ll keep ya safe.” And she would, because Cory wouldn’t be coming out into the open for at least a few hours. There was nothing to hurt him in there except them, and surely they’d take it slow━at first.
‘It ain’t just the bar here either. There are some fun rooms as well. We could give you a tour?’
This time, she cut in before Cory could respond, leaning back to beam up at him, nudging his body with one of her hips. “Yeah! A tour. C’mon, sweetness.” Flashing Leah a smirk, her hand travelled from the base of his spine to his other hip, guiding him towards the hallway at the end of the bar. “Well, we got the outside here, what ya see s’what ya get, nothin’ fancy. But then when ya come back here…” Leading Cory into the depths of the club, deeper and darker than Emerald itself, Hannya found the last room completely empty━and, coincidentally, the same one she and Leah had used.
“Ya got private spots t’hang out in. Quieter here, right?” Hannya asked in a gentle voice, bringing him into the room equipped for… well, whatever any club-goer’s heart desired. This room, thankfully, was cozier than some of the others, with a puffy lounge chair and pillows galore. “This’s where Leah and I first met, y’know. An’ look at her, she’s still standin’, huh?” Giggling innocently, she continued to speak to him as if he were a small child, which seemed like the safest course of action━calm him down, loosen him up, then the real fun would start.

This place probably offered a dozen different distractions from what he’d had to do but he was pretty much unfamiliar with anything except for the alcohol stacked behind the bar and even with that he was the lightest of weights. Cory hated the taste of most of it, had politely sipped at but ultimately pushed away most of the things Olivia had talked him into trying at Campbell’s. In college he’d been the awkward guy in the corner, laughing with friends but still nursing his first and only beer at the end of the night. He hadn’t had demons to drink away, although given the way his life had gone up until that point maybe he should’ve done. Now he did, clinging greasily to his memory in a way he couldn’t shove off tonight. The drinks were supposed to be about scrubbing those memories out of him but perhaps they wouldn’t have even done that.
He stopped thinking about her now, the distraction Leah was pushing on him shoving the mental images of that girl crumpled outside deep enough into his brain that they wouldn’t surface for days, not until they woke up with a start the way all the others did. Cory adjusted his grip on himself, his dark brows furrowing tight enough they likely weren’t ever gonna unbunch as he glanced at Leah. ”I don’t know if that sounds exciting to me,” he rasped. Maybe there was a faint sense of relief when Leah said those things wouldn’t bite him but he’d been twisted up by her before, knew that the lies came easy enough to her lips that it was like breathing for her.
Long lashes fluttered in a screen over the sea glass eyes as Cory let out a strangled laugh. Relax. It wasn’t that easy, not for him. He hadn’t made been for all of this. His gaze swung wildly over the people in the bar as he tried not to let it settle for too long on anybody but Leah and Hannya. ”You say it like it’s easy,” he grumbled. For them it appeared to be. Cory sucked in a breath, the alcohol he gulped down doing little in the way of burning his nerves out. His shoulder pressed into Hannya’s body, like a kid pressing close to his mom when fear got a hold. ”Won’t stop them trying,” he bit back at Leah. Things like them were arrogant and he doubted a glance at Leah at him would do anything to convince them they weren’t in the presence of something far more powerful.
Letting himself slip neck deep down here just to avoid one evil was probably gonna put him square in the path of another but rooms meant not being here. Cory licked his lips, desert dry despite the alcohol and glanced back and forth between the two blondes. He settled on Hannya eventually, his fingers curling a little tighter around her as she rubbed the small of his back soothingly. ”You’re … you’re not like them. You’re friendly. P-pretty,” Cory sputtered out. Safe despite what he’d seen between Leah and Hannya already. ”What sort of fun?” The question had been said with a dubious tone, Cory latching back on to Leah. He’d been about to ask what sort of fun but Hannya was sliding those curves against him. Hot skin radiating through his clothes, her nose brushing his throat, her lips practically brushing the stubble as she said just what he wanted to hear. ”P-please.”
The offer had been dropped, leaving him unsure whether to leap at the chance or not, but at the sharp bark of laughter from a table behind them Cory nodded immediately, clutching onto his drink like a lifeline. There were levels to things, gradients, and right now Leah and Hannya seemed the lesser of all evils in this place. He ambled alongside Hannya, long legs taking shorter steps to keep pace with her as she led him through. ”’s bigger than it looks,” Cory murmured. Upstairs the place had seemed so tightly packed, people crammed in like sardines as they merrily pressed into one another. Down here, especially back here, there was room to breathe.
Pressing his lips together, Cory nodded at Hannya’s question, happy to let her nudge him into the last room. Quieter and vampire free. Cory’s eyes were wide as Leah joined them, that dryness intentisfying. He’d seen the way the two of them had been together. ”Leah’s braver than I am,” he managed with a twitchy grin. ”You … met … and you got friendly?” A different sort of friendly to his with Leah. There’d never been anything of any other sort between them and probably never would be really. Leah was the shark sort, ready to take big bites and the first time they’d met he hadn’t noticed that her mouth had opened and those razor teeth had latched onto him, steering him around.

Leah wanted to roll her eyes and tell him to get a grip. Cory had probably never taken a risk in his life. Sticking to the speed limit and only crossing the road when the little green man said so. “Each to their own” She shrugged, eyes darting to the other customers in the bar for a moment. She loved it, the feeling of sharp fangs ramming into her throat. She sounded masochistic and maybe she was. No matter how many injuries were inflicted on her body, she wouldn’t die. This life was far better than being a stupid werewolf. The girls needed to massage the tense of Cory’s shoulders. Showed him how to relax and the pair were good at doing that. In a few hours time, he’d be saying thank you to the girls for taking such good care of him. This time Leah did roll her eyes, “We’re much stronger than these vampires” Maybe the older ones would put up a good fight, but the two had the advantage of disappearing at any moment. He was falling into Hannya’s charms already and Leah was excited to tell him tomorrow that Hannya was in fact a demon. That would be something to knock the air out of Cory’s chest. Letting a demon wrap her arms around him, burying her nose deep into his neck. The saint that was Cory Collier letting his hands explore the body of a demon. Leah was ready to rip him of that title. Screw it up and toss it in the bin, with the help of Hannya of course. They’d make sure he got out in one piece but leave him wanting to come back for more. They always wanted more, once was never enough. Even Leah knew once wasn’t enough with Hannya. Leah slid off the barstool, drink in hand as she flashed Hannya a sinister smile. She trailed behind as the demon took the lead on the ‘tour’. Showing him the bar but more importantly guiding him down the back of the bar. Towards that room where it all started with Hannya. Just seeing the door to the room brought heat to her skin. The noise of the bar was drowned out by the thick walls and door. She followed the two into the room, nodding at Hannya’s comment. “Cory. A child with a crippling fear of heights on a rollercoaster is braver than you” She took a sip of her drink, glancing at him. “No offence” She quickly added, and really she didn’t. She was just trying to get him to see that he needed to live life a little harder. She moved into the room, letting the door close behind her. “Oh yeah. Me and Hannya were in here for hours getting to know each other. No stone left unturned” A surge of excitement as she stepped towards the two, taking hold of Cory’s hand lightly. “I never really said thank you for bringing me back to life. Maybe I should show you how grateful I am” She tugged at him gently, guiding him towards the chair in the corner, pulling him down alongside her. HANNYA & CORY COLLIER

━ make you beg for it, plead for it, until you feel like you breathe for it ━ “PRETTY? AW, SUGAR, YOU’RE such a doll.” Hannya practically purred into his ear. She was nothing near the sort, she’d eat him alive if he gave her the chance, and Hannya fully planned on taking that opportunity by the end of the night. Cory wouldn’t see it coming, would he? Sweet, innocent, little reaper baby. He had some interesting choices of friends, though.
Like silk through water, she guided him into the depths of the club with Leah following diligently behind. She flashed a smirk over her shoulder at the other blonde as they entered and Leah stepped forward, with Hannya still gentle and warm at his side. “I think you’re brave, darlin’,” She hummed, shifting up to press a kiss to his cheek. She didn’t, of course, but there was no better aphrodisiac than caressing a man’s confidence━especially one as shy as Cory. Nodding at his question, she let Leah take the verbal response and begin to pull him away, guiding Cory to all those fluffy pillows on the lounge.
Grinning at them for a minute, allowing Cory to get comfortable, Hannya stalked over to the man’s opposite side, shifting onto her knees on the cushion. She was taller than him from this position, and made use of it by planting one knee in the space between his own, settling down on one thigh. “Mhm,” The demon hummed, “She’s grateful, and I’m just glad t’meetcha.” Cupping his cheek in one gentle palm, Hannya dipped down to kiss his lips again, though this time she lingered longer, far less friendly than her original greeting. The same hand fell to Cory’s chest, rubbing circles over the thick muscle, up to his broad shoulders and back down, warming him to her touch. Planting little pecks sideways, she trailed from the edge of his lips, across his cheek and to his ear, flashing Leah another grin before she disappeared behind Cory’s head. Laughing lightly, as if she was just as excited and new to this as he was.

Cory watched Leah roll her eyes and pinched his lips together, feeling like he was neck deep in murky water again. She’d been wearing a mask the first time he’d met her, hiding the sharper, hungrier side of herself beneath a veneer of desperation and sadness. All those stories about how she’d been done wrong in being killed. The truth had only emerged afterwards, leaving him feeling like a complete idiot. Now he wasn’t sure if he was being just the same again. He’d let Leah drag him down here and now it seemed like there was another mask between the first and there were so many things about her he had no idea about.
Maybe it’d been naïve not to test the bounds of what he was but Death had drawn hard lines when they’d finally met. The rules were there to be follow, Augustus’ bending of them would stop. The reaper inside of him had backed down, immediately cowing away from Death. It didn’t mean he explained anymore of what was going on, he remained just as stubbornly uncommunicative, just cackling at moments like this and leaving Cory feeling all the more nervous. Cory’s eyes ticked up for just a heartbeat, his brows furrowing as he took in Leah before he glanced around at the others again. Had she been fighting? If she had he was all the more glad for Hannya’s protection here. An angel on his shoulder compared to Leah’s devil.
He'd curled in close to Hannya, a blush rising up from where her hand was rubbing at the small of his back to his throat. Cory could feel the heat but hoped it didn’t show, not even when Hannya’s purr in his ear had the heat growing. ”Th—thank you,” he stuttered, like she’d been the one laying it on thick. He didn’t pull at Leah’s hand as she towed him out of the main bar – thank God – just going biddably. His feet still wanted to tangle but he had enough back bone in place again to scowl at Leah. ”Offence taken. I’m not that bad, Leah.” With anything normal. This wasn’t that. A little smug touched his expression as Hannya flipped it. See. He slid his other hand to her waist, squeezing in gratitude before they were disappearing through the door to that room.
It was close in there, close enough that he felt like something was pressing on his chest, sliding down into the pit of his stomach. Cory glanced around it, eyes fixing on the sofa before Leah eased closer. It should’ve been like he’d put his hand in the lion’s mouth but he allowed her to tow him to a chair all the same. He was all baby giraffe graceful as he sank down. ”Are you really?” he asked Leah, brows furrowing. ”It always seemed like you were just glad to get out of there, not glad that I’d helped.” He could’ve been anybody, couldn’t he? Hannya on the other hand though...
Cory’s hand found Leah’s leg, bracing himself as Hannya pressed in on the other side. ”Hi,” he echoed hoarsely at her, his smile a nervous flicker that cut off into a little moan as Hannya kissed him. Where Leah could be ice cold Hannya was warm, easing him in like it was a kiddy pool he was heading into and not the black water of that lake. Cory let his eyelids slip down to narrow slits as Hannya nuzzled his ear, turning just far enough to take in Leah. Knowing he was probably going somewhere else for this when his time came again, he slipped his hand up to Leah’s elbow to pull her in. Nerves jumped under his skin but he inched forward, pressing his lips almost impulsively to hers.

Of course, Cory was offended by Leah’s comment. She flashed him a blank look. The guy could probably get offended if you told him his sneakers didn’t match his socks. She wasn’t here to rip shreds off Cory though rather trying to help him. Introduce him to a new brand world and open up his mind of his to other things. There was more to their eternal existence than reaping souls. Her mouth fell open for a second when Hannya spoke, calling Cory brave. Oh, the woman was good and Cory was lapping up the compliments. Just how he lapped up her story about Grey killing her. There was a fine line between her being grateful to Cory for saving her and wanting to be out of that hellish land known as limbo. He gave her the key to leave that place, forever. The truth was she was grateful it was Cory who saved her because those like Damien and Elias wouldn’t have been so gullible. “No. I’m glad you helped me.” She spoke softly, her hand stroking his thigh gently. Small digits made their way up, feeling the heat in her body rise. Blue eyes followed Hannya as she positioned herself, caressing Cory’s face. If she listened carefully she could hear the sound of Cory’s racing heart. He was either terrified of the pair or enjoying this. She assumed the latter. “Told ya it’s fun down here.” She commented as the demon placed her lips on Cory’s. She didn’t know that much about her co-worker, but always presumed he lived a straight-laced life as a human. Cory’s eyes found hers as Hannya disappeared, those soft lips pecking lightly on his neck. She was surprised when Cory took hold of her elbow and pulled her closer. He was learning. A brief smile was on her face before she closed the gap between the pair, pressing her lips hard against his. Her fingers continued to trail up his thigh as she drew his bottom lip between her teeth. ━ make you beg for it, plead for it, until you feel like you breathe for it ━ THEY WERE THE DREAM TEAM. Hannya wondered about all the other poor saps they could ensnare this way. She was sexy enough on her own, but with both of them? They were irresistible. Literally.
Cory was just the first victim in what she hoped was a long line of them. Well, could you call him a victim if he was so clearly having fun? He’d chosen his fate by walking down those stairs, and he’d given himself over to them the moment he entered this room.
Thankfully, he didn’t break away when Hannya advanced. Her mouth trailed sideways, freeing him to… oh, now look at that. Clearly he was brave with the way he immediately took on Leah. Satisfied, and happy she had a hand in perhaps straining their work relationship, Hannya dipped her head to kiss down the length of his neck. By the time she arrived at his shirt’s neckline, she’d let more weight relax onto his thigh, beginning a steady roll.
Hannya pulled away to drag Cory’s top layer over his head, cutting through his little one-on-one time with Leah. She wanted more attention now, and decided to take it as she threw his shirt over her shoulder. Leaning in to kiss Leah next, Hannya blindly found one of Cory’s hands and brought it to her hips, then slowly upwards, letting him feel every dip and curve. She was first, and then, with her guidance, she’d let him explore Leah, too. Ooh, they were gonna have so much fun with him.
