Teddy didn’t deserve the silent treatment from Lawrence, he knew that, but he withdrew himself anyway. Hannya had driven an invisible wedge between the friends, a wedge that Teddy didn’t even know existed. The last text that pinged on his phone from the siphoner was a simple ‘Are you alive?’ message. It was a small town though and Lawrence couldn’t swerve Teddy forever. He just couldn’t bring himself to tell Teddy he’d fallen back into bed with the demon he promised he’d avoid and he’d started drinking blood again. It started with the bags, but now it was straight from the vein. He hadn’t fallen too far into darkness though. The arrival of his sister had kept him afloat. Another person in his life relying on him to be a good person. He knew she would be furious with him for treating Teddy the way he was. If his sister had forgiven him for abandoning her then surely Teddy would forgive him for being a terrible friend. An apology would need to come first, with a potential explanation, but Lawrence had no idea how to explain his actions. It was a strange situation for him. Prior to meeting Teddy he didn’t have anyone he would consider a real friend. Rather just acquaintances who he referred to as friends. The people he met in New Orleans were mainly vampires, some of them ruthless, but they were people who turned a blind eye to his behaviour, often indulging it in themselves. Lawrence spent a good hour in his apartment rehearsing his apology over and over in his head. Thinking about what he could say to Teddy, but there was that chance his friend could slam the door in his face. It was that possibly that had him hovering by his front door like a lost child. Even though he had been the one to push Teddy away he didn’t want to lose his friend forever. The thought stirred a deep sadness inside. The worst part he’d only have himself to blame. But he needed to rip the bandaid off. Hard and fast. He swung his door open and made his way downstairs to Teddy’s apartment. The apology still churned over in his mind as he walked down the stairs. Alongside that, his mind was also thinking of all possible outcomes of the conversation. It wasn’t just Teddy he missed though it was Julian too. Someone he vowed to keep an eye on in the future, long after Teddy was gone. He’d let them both down and needed to make things right. The nerves gripped his stomach as he reached Teddy’s front door. There was that part of him that wanted to run back to his own apartment and just carry on as he was. Nervously he ran his fingers through his hair a few times, before taking a deep breath. As he exhaled harshly he brought his hand up, knocking loudly on Teddy’s door with his knuckles. He stepped back a fraction, biting his bottom lip as he waited for his friend to open the door. Another part of him was hoping Teddy wasn’t in. He listened carefully through the door, hearing someone shuffling about inside which only caused his stomach to knot even more as it became apparent Teddy was home. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ LIFE HAD BEEN ROUGH for the last few weeks. Tumultuous, to say the least, what with Lawrence’s absence, meeting Phoebe, and then Evelyn. Never feeling like he could do anything right was typical for Teddy, especially after becoming a single parent, but this was a completely new step over the line of uncertainty. He’d settled in Mystic Falls, his first home since the coven he’d run from, sure things would be better here. Julian had his school, he was learning to control his abilities, and Teddy had a good job. He thought he might have a lifelong friend and a new family to collect here, as well, but obviously, he was wrong about that. Lawrence was supposed to be his brother, and he’d disappeared. Then, the first woman he’d slept with since his wife didn’t want anything to do with him afterwards.
Was he so awful that nobody wanted to be near him anymore? That was how he felt, and every day made it seem truer than the last. Some woman at his work told him about ghosting. Or, rather, she’d been complaining to another coworker, and Teddy overheard. It sounded a lot like what Lawrence was doing to him, and so he figured he’d leave Lawrence alone after a while.
Julian was at school while Teddy shuffled around the apartment, attempting to clean while the destructive toddler was away. It wouldn’t matter once he was back, but if Teddy didn’t start it now, he’d have nothing to do except sit on his couch and stare at the television━an object he didn’t like much, nor understand.
Unfortunately, it distracted him partway through his day, confining Teddy to soft cushions while the pictures flashed over and over, constantly maintaining his attention. If what his kind did was considered witchcraft, then what was this? Just like his coven, the thought of it made him wary.
He lost an hour to it before the knock came, forcing Teddy upright, immediately switching off the trifling picture box. He felt free now, but not as much as he did when he pulled the door open and saw Lawrence standing there. It was as if the elephant sitting on his shoulders suddenly melted away, and Teddy could finally breathe again. Beaming before he could think of anything to say, Teddy didn’t hesitate━his arms were thrown around Lawrence, squeezing him tight. “I’ve missed you,” He breathed, air catching in his throat, nearly driving him to tears. All the pain brought on from Lawrence’s absence was forgotten, and Teddy didn’t much care why Lawrence was gone, only that he was back now.

Like a child who had broken an expensive ornament whilst playing catch the house, Lawrence stood waiting for Teddy to open the door. Obviously, he would never have been playing catch in the house. His mom told him he was only allowed to throw the ball outside. He’d gone from an obedient child to this. A vampire that pushes against the rules of society every day. A person who had broken countless laws over the past few centuries. There were no repercussions to fear, at least until now. Now he had to try and patch together his friendship with the one person he called his best friend and truly meant it. Life had been empty without Teddy around. His world turned dim the moment he cut his friend off. For starters, his breakfasts had been boring and bland. No pancakes cut into fun shapes. Just toast and butter, which he only ate to pass the time. He needed someone like Teddy around. Someone to keep him on the straight and narrow. Someone to call him out on his behaviour, as he did with Hannya and working in the bar. His lecture about Hannya went through one ear and out the other, but at least the bar was now normal— to an extent. The place was still run by vampires, but it had a classy edge about it. That pointlessly beating heart thudded hard in his chest. Smashing again his ribcage with every beat. He listened to the TV inside, but then it switched off. He could hear the shuffle of footsteps moving towards the door. He took a deep breath as he squeezed both his hands into a tight fist. Digging his fingers deep into his palms as he tried to remain calm. But Teddy didn’t open the door with an angry or annoyed expression. He was happy. Truly happy to see Lawrence, which was not what he was expecting. He was ready to have the door slammed in his face and he would drag himself back to his apartment, reeling over the fact his friendship with Teddy was dead and he only had himself to blame. Instead Teddy threw his arms around Lawrence, pulling him in for a tight hug. He relaxed his hands, no longer bundled into a tight fist, his shoulders dropping with relief. Without hesitation he brought his hands up, placing them around Teddy, embracing him. He blinked hard as his eyes stung with tears. “Hey buddy. I’ve missed you too” He spoke in a hoarse voice as emotion threatened to break it. Lawrence eventually pulled away after a few minutes, “It’s unlike you to watch TV” He laughed weakly, as he rubbed his eyes in an attempt to stop the tears from spilling. He stepped past his friend, into the apartment. He wasn’t about to pour his heart out in the corridor of their apartment block, for the world to hear. “I’m sorry… I…” He turned back to Teddy, before sitting down on the sofa. He leaned forward, resting his forearms on his knees, “I know I promised I wouldn’t go back to that demon, but I did” Several times, but Teddy didn’t need to know that, “And I’ve quitted school. I couldn’t keep drinking the animal blood” Hannya had torn him away from that path with ease. “I haven’t been able to find the words to tell you because… I didn’t want to disappoint you” TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ TEDDY FELT LIKE HE could finally breathe again upon Lawrence’s return. It was the first time he’d felt happy in weeks. And though it might be a bad thing to rely on a friend for something like that, Teddy couldn’t help it. But if Lawrence missed him too, then why did he separate them? Questions began to swirl, fogging up his brain so much that he almost missed it when Lawrence mentioned the television. He nearly asked how Lawrence knew he was watching it, but then quickly remembered the whole vampire thing. “It sucked me in,” Teddy joked in return, just as weakly, closing the door and following Lawrence around the couch. He settled a hip into the television stand, facing his friend━or who he hoped was still his friend━eager to get the explanation he figured was coming.
When it did, it came slow and sunk in just as molasses-like. The demon. The sigh slipped out before Teddy could suppress it, a small frown on his face. He had to be careful of what he said, though, desperate not to scare Lawrence away again. Was that what this was all about? The lecture Teddy gave him? He hoped not, but as Lawrence continued, Teddy saw that it was pretty much what he thought. Perhaps not directly, but Lawrence felt guilty after that whole conversation━enough to completely ignore Teddy for weeks. And it was Teddy who made him feel that way.
“It’s… okay, Lawrence,” He figured that was what Lawrence needed to hear, and Teddy refused to chastise him any longer. That wasn’t what friends were for━sure, they should push you to do better, but for all Teddy’s shortcomings when it came to social interaction, he knew this wasn’t the time. Pushing away from the dreaded picture box, he moved to the couch, settling in next to his best friend. “I won’t lie, it scares me a little bit that you started drinking from humans, but I also won’t pretend I know how it feels to be a vampire. Only you know whether or not you can control yourself,” He said lightly, dark eyes flicking over Lawrence’s face. “I don’t want you to stop talking to me again because we disagreed about this. It’s not worth it. You can… do what you want to do, just be safe. And I’m here if you need me. Even if you think I won’t like it.” It hurt Teddy that he’d upset Lawrence to the point where he felt he couldn’t come to Teddy about personal things━that wasn’t his intention at all.
Teddy moved in slowly, hesitating once before wrapping his arms around Lawrence again, squeezing him gently, a small puff of air coming after. He relaxed there for a moment, rubbing Lawrence’s back, comforting him as if he was a child━despite all he’d just said.

Blue eyes drifted to the television in the living room, “They always do, eh” He responded in a low voice. He too had found himself sucked into programmes and dramas he actually didn’t give a shit about, but it was something to pass the time. It was easy to sink down into the couch whilst something provides you with entertainment. Nonetheless, he hadn’t come over to talk about television. Sorry— that was the only word that sounded right in this situation; everything after that just felt like an excuse. An excuse for being an awful friend. Hannya, the blood, school. They were all excuses for avoiding Teddy. Leaving himself unwilling to accept the fact that perhaps the darkness had consumed him once again. Not whole, just partially, but if anyone could pull him back it was Teddy. It was only Teddy until Phoebe walked back into his life, but he was careful to paint a perfect picture of himself for his sister. Terrified, anything different would scare her away and she would hate the person he was now. The sigh didn’t go unnoticed, but Lawrence didn’t comment. He wanted to make amends with Teddy, not make things worse. Eyes followed Teddy as he took a seat on the couch as well. “Asking a vampire to survive on animal blood is like asking a human to survive on just bread. It's doable, but far from ideal” There was no denying he was faster and stronger now. “I’m in control” He insisted, as he looked back at Teddy. Realistically he had Hannya to thank for that as she was happy to let him feed on her whenever he wanted, but he detested the fact the demon found his weak spot. It hadn’t taken her long to break him either, leaving him wondering whether he was ever strong-willed in the first place. He nodded, agreeing with Teddy’s words. They were bound to disagree on some things. One was a warlock, the other a vampire. Destining to be enemies according to history, but they ended up being best friends. Their personalities sat hand in hand at times. Lawrence was there to drag Teddy out of his comfort zone and Teddy was the voice of reason for Lawrence. Without hesitation he wrapped his arms around Teddy, returning the gentle squeeze as he closed his eyes for a moment as they prickled with tears. But at least Teddy wasn’t telling him to stay away from the demon. “But you’ll be happy to hear the bar is under new management” He spoke as he pulled away from Teddy, before settling back into the couch, “Another vampire has taken over and turned it into some kind sophisticated bar for immortals. It’s actually a beauty now” There were a few dead humans here and there, but nothing compared to before. He could actually go to work without having to drag bodies out first. “And…um...” He began before letting out a heavy sigh. A sigh that spoke a thousand words, “My sister is still alive and by alive I mean she’s a vampire” Good news twisted in with the bad. He was elated to find out Phoebe was alive but devastated to find out she had succumbed to the same fate as he did. Almost feeling guilty to be excited that his sister was back in his life. ━ i started to dream again ━ TEDDY TRIED HIS BEST to understand it. The bread analogy helped; he supposed━it made Lawrence’s situation more relatable. And, all in all, they were vampires. It was what their kind was created to do, and Teddy would rather Lawrence be strong and able to defend himself than be weak and get hurt. If Lawrence said he was in control, then Teddy had to believe him━it was the only way they could move forward.
But he wasn’t just placating Lawrence; he meant every word of what he’d said, and held Lawrence as if he’d never let him go━and he wouldn’t, not after everything they’d been through. Fast friends, it seemed, but not really. It took trust to form a bond like theirs, and that had been proved on their first meeting. Even if Lawrence was a vampire, one who fed on humans now, he was the same man who saved Teddy in the woods and later helped save his son.
They settled back into the couch after the embrace, with Teddy’s sad smile and nod at Lawrence’s words, trying to communicate that he understood without speaking━if he opened his mouth, he might burst into tears.
‘But you’ll be happy to hear the bar is under new management…’
He perked up then. Previously, the place Lawrence worked sounded… terrifying, what with all the demons and vampires lingering together. Teddy figured it would be an even worse influence on Lawrence but, apparently, he’d dipped his toes into the darkness even without his workplace being what it was. Perhaps it could’ve been a lot worse if the new managers hadn’t shifted things around. “Well, I’m glad to hear it. I guess this means I can’t visit you at work now, bring you lunch or something.” Teddy chuckled, trying to ease himself into a sense of normality, settling the leaps his stomach started on.
“What?” Teddy’s mouth dropped open, eyes widening. “That’s amazing, Lawrence. I mean… that you get to see her again.” Though they were never very close, he would’ve given everything to see one of his sisters again━if they had changed their minds about him. “How is she? Well, she must’ve been a vampire for a while now, right? When do I get to meet her?” Teddy was excited enough for the both of them, reaching over to squeeze Lawrence’s arm, his own smile beginning to fade.
“It is amazing, right? Or did something happen?” He asked, concern flooding in, worried she’d come back to turn against him just like his parents. Teddy knew what Lawrence had been through (almost) first hand, their pasts echoes of one another, and he was worried the reuniting hadn’t gone so well.

Relief washed over him when he realised Teddy wasn’t about to lecture him. In fact, the whole situation was going better than he anticipated, expecting Teddy to slam the door in his face the moment he opened it, which is what he deserved. The happiness that was present on Teddy’s face when he swung that door open and saw Lawrence was enough to bring a tear to his eye. The best friends were finally back together. Sitting on Teddy’s couch sharing a heartfelt hug. “I’m sorry Teddy. I won’t turn my back on you again. I promise” Furious at himself for doing it in the first place. The siphoner was one of the few people in the world he truly trusted. The pair had spent countless evenings having those deep meaningful conversations and confiding in one another. They could relate to each other, both of them had the same upbringing just decades apart. Both were born into a controlling coven, nominated to be the next leader until they were deemed unfit to do so before being cast aside. Birthdays, Christmas, Halloween and thanksgiving. They’d spent every holiday together, having no family to turn to. As well as being his best friend Lawrence considered Teddy to be the long-lost brother he never had. At least he didn’t have any family until Phoebe announced herself. It warmed his heart when Teddy mentioned bringing lunch to the bar for Lawrence. Sometimes he thought his friend was too pure for the world they lived in. “There are quite a few strict rules in place at the moment. If you bring a mortal in they’re your responsibility. Feel free to drop by though, but you’d be trusting me with your life, eh” He smiled, glancing over at Teddy. He would rather have his heart ripped out of his chest than let Teddy die. Plus Julian needed a father in his life. The excitement that was flowing from Teddy made him chuckle, but the excitement dulled once his friend realised the reunion might not be as wonderful as it sounded. Lawrence shook his head, a smile still on his face, “No, no. It is amazing” He insisted, with a nod. He was elated to have Phoebe back in his life, “She was turned a few years after me, by the same vampires and my parents did exactly the same thing to her. Kicked her out the coven” Neither of them were fit to be the leader anymore, “Apparently she’s been looking for me for years. She was pissed at me, to begin with for leaving her, but she understands why I didn’t go back” The siblings had slipped back into their normal brother and sister relationship almost instantly as if they hadn’t spent decades apart. Now his phone would be buzzing every few hours with a message from Phoebe with some meme attached or just checking up on one another. Now he had his sister back it was his goal to keep her safe, refusing to lose her again. “I’ll bring her round one night though. We can have a few drinks and get food ordered in” He was eager for Teddy to meet Phoebe, after all the stories he’d shared with him about their childhood. “What’s been going on with you anyway? How’s Julian?” Along with missing Teddy he also missed Julian a lot. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ ‘FEEL FREE TO DROP by though, but you’d be trusting me with your life, eh.’
Teddy would always trust Lawrence with his life. Even though they’d been separated for weeks, nothing had changed. Teddy still loved his best friend, and all was immediately forgiven━he just really hoped Lawrence wouldn’t do that again. Blame rested on both men, Teddy figured, but that didn’t matter anymore. It was gone.
He only grinned and chuckled, letting out a light, “Of course,” Without going too far with it. This was meant to be a positive and uplifting reuniting, it didn’t have to get bogged down by Teddy and his tendency to get overly emotional.
But he was happy for Lawrence, and he was glad that seeing his sister again was a happy affair. Having family meant you were a little less alone in life, and while Teddy had Julian, he couldn’t confide in his son like he could Lawrence. He wasn’t jealous━Lawrence needed people━and hopefully, his sister could help keep Lawrence away from that demon, too.
“That’s good,” Teddy nodded genuinely, “I’m glad she wasn’t mad at you for too long.” He joked, “Are you… upset that she’s a vampire now? Or do you not care because you get to see her?” Teddy tip-toed around the question, curious, though he didn’t want to poke at a wound. Lawrence seemed to wrestle with his own immortality a little bit, and Teddy wondered if all those years apart did anything in the way of familial love. Both of them knew first-hand how quickly that love could diminish when something didn’t go as planned.
“Yes, of course. I’d like that.” Teddy grinned. Meeting the other person in Lawrence’s heart sounded like the best thing Teddy could ever ask for.
‘What’s been going on with you anyway? How’s Julian?’
Teddy glanced away almost nervously, a small grin coming to his lips, heat on his cheeks. He rubbed his hands together and shrugged━nothing had gone quite well since Lawrence disappeared from his life, but he had met Phoebe and Evie, and while the former didn’t make him feel as good at the end as she did at the beginning, the latter proved to be a step in the right direction. He hoped he could see them both again, and that things would go well for Evie.
“Well…” Teddy began, eyes slowly coming back to Lawrence. “I met a woman. Two, actually. A lady named Evie, it turns out her dad has people following her around, and… well, it felt good to talk to somebody who understood what that’s like.” He blushed a little harder, “And the other. Um… well, I met her in a bar. I… you always like to stay out and go drinking, and when you weren’t around, I…” Suddenly, Teddy frowned, eyes darting to the coffee table. “I tried to see what all the fuss was about. She was really kind━outgoing, fun, she was surprised I’d never tried French Fries, and we had a whole night of firsts. In the end, it was my first one-night-stand,” Clearing his throat, he leaned back into the couch, staring down at his hands. “I didn’t want it to be, though. I tried to ask her out on a date and she… didn’t want to, I guess. Her name was Phoebe. I really like her; I don’t know what I did wrong. I know I’m out of practice, but I thought we had a good time.” Leaning on your friends was one thing, but Teddy wondered if you were supposed to cry while confiding about women you’d slept with. He wasn’t, not yet, there weren’t tears, but the sadness was undoubtedly clear in his voice and the way he wouldn’t meet Lawrence’s eye.

“Of course,”—The pair had been in a life and death situation the first day they met and even then there was no hesitation to protect each other despite meeting each other five seconds prior. Lawrence had saved Teddy from his coven, and Teddy had saved Lawrence from going crazy and dying from a wolf bite. Up until this point, the only person he trusted with his life was Teddy, but now Phoebe was back in his life. Now he had two people there for him, no matter what. It was a difficult question for him to answer. He was over the moon to have his sister back, but it pained him that her life had taken the same path as his. “I don’t know” He admitted, drawing his bottom lip between his teeth for a second as he pondered, “I think I’m upset our parents treated her the same way… made me realize that they never regretted kicking me out in the first place if they were happy to do it all again with her. She appears to have handled it better than me” The siblings had only picked at the surface about it all, but Phoebe had always been the stronger one of the siblings, taking everything in her stride, whereas he found himself dwelling. Lawrence didn’t want to delve too deep into it all and tarnish their reunion by digging up the past. Having Phoebe back made his immortality seem less daunting and suddenly he felt less alone. He would have someone by his side, forever. Whereas Teddy was mortal and one day he would no longer be around, which pained Lawrence to think of. The shift in gaze and nervous smile didn’t go amiss with Lawrence, as he straightened himself up on the couch. “What?” There was a huge grin on his face, as Teddy’s face flushed pink. It was a woman. It had to have been a woman. “Two?” Lawrence exclaimed. Teddy was doing better than him in the love department it seemed. He listened intently as Teddy continued. The first was Evie, a short and sweet description of the woman, but his friend had a lot to say about the second woman. Outgoing and fun, sounded like someone Teddy needed to in his life to prize him away from his comfort zone. Never tried French Fries? Lawrence was about to interject with his surprise, but then Teddy dropped the news that he had his first one night stand. His mouth fell open, “Fuck. I have missed a lot” He wished he’d been there the next morning to gossip with Teddy. Discuss all the intimate details, leaving nothing out. Lawrence knew the death of Teddy’s wife had left a gaping hole in his heart. One that may never be repaired, but for years he’d been telling his friend that he needed to throw himself back into the dating world, no matter how much it hurts. Teddy had a lot of love to give and any woman would be lucky to have someone like him in their life. It had been an uphill struggle from day one. Every woman Lawrence dragged over to speak to the friends Teddy recoiled. “...Her name was Phoebe”He had become so wrapped up in the excitement that he almost missed the name drop. Phoebe. Kind, fun, outgoing but didn’t want to take things further? This screamed his sister, but surely it was just a coincidence. There were lots of Phoebe’s in Mystic Falls. Weren’t there? “It… it sounds like her loss… or maybe…” Lawrence was trying to give his friend some supportive words. Telling him this Phoebe woman wasn’t worth his time and there were plenty more fish in the sea “Teddy, please tell me this woman you met wasn’t a mousey blonde Canadian” Please. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ TEDDY HOPED IT WOULD be like a weight off his chest when he told Lawrence, but instead, the air was stale and still. It didn’t help. What had he done wrong? He got Lawrence back at least━this friendship mattered more than a woman who wanted nothing to do with him.
‘... or maybe…’
Lawrence seemed enthused until that moment. Teddy looked up from his hands, covered in callouses from long, hard days at the cemetery. Usually, Teddy was the worrywart between them, but Lawrence seemed to be racking up the thoughts in there━Teddy could practically see the wheels turning. He’d worried enough, apparently, to think Teddy would stop speaking to him forever, so perhaps they weren’t as unlike one another as he thought.
“I’m not entirely sure what you mean by mousey,” He mumbled, “But she was blonde. Extremely beautiful.” He’d told her enough times that night, and another wave of embarrassment flooded in at the memory. “She didn’t say whether or not she was Canadian, but I did…” Brow furrowing, Teddy thought back to her comment about his drink, and wondered why Lawrence was even asking these questions━he seemed so pleased until Teddy mentioned her name. And, finally, it hit him.
Phoebe. Canadian. Sister.
Eyes blowing wide, his jaw nearly dropped to the floor. “Oh.” He let out, just as he’d done to Phoebe when he realized what she was hinting at when she mentioned taking someone home. And, apparently… sleeping with her meant he was sleeping with Lawrence’s long-lost sister. Still, Teddy attempted to band-aid the whole thing, “I’m sorry. I had no idea. She… I didn’t mean to speak poorly of her, either. If I had known…” But Lawrence hadn’t been speaking to him, and Teddy began to panic━what if this would cause a break between them for good?

“Oh God” He muttered, as his back rested against the padding of the couch. Blue eyes drifted up to the ceiling as he tilted his head back slightly, letting out a quiet sigh. “Oh God” He repeated again, in a mutter. He had no right to be the protective big brother, having abandoned that role decades ago. That ship sailed when he left Phoebe behind with their parents. He should have scooped her up and taken her with him, though he wasn’t sure which outcome would have been worse. Roaming the country with a brother who was struggling to keep his fangs at bay or parents who were ready to force their second born to be the coven leader. Both seemed bleak, but maybe he could have kept her alive. Lawrence couldn’t be angry at Teddy either, mainly because it sounded like his sister was the one playing games with Teddy’s feelings. The panic was clear in Teddy’s voice, but Lawrence really had no idea how to react. Anyone else he’d have thrown them across the room, but this was his best friend. He dragged his eyes away from the ceiling, finally looking at the siphoner. “It’s fine… well it’s not fine it’s weird. My best friend and my sister… nope I don’t wanna think about it” He pulled himself upright, “But you didn't know” Maybe if he had been such an ass to his friend the whole situation could have been avoided. He was still happy to hear Teddy was finally investing time in his love life, ignoring the fact it included his sister. He’d been trying to push Teddy back into the dating world for a long time now, but failed every time. A part of him understood, but never wholly he didn’t have a dead wife. It took years for Lawrence to mend his broken heart, though it was never fully healed. A part of it would always be a little bit broken. “I’m not annoyed at you I promise. I’m annoyed at my sister for…” For what? Doing the exact same thing Lawrence had done before. Met a girl, had a good time then never spoke to them again, even if they tried to make contact. It was why he avoided falling into bed with the residents of New Orleans, choosing to drift towards the tourists instead. “Should I speak to her about it?” How was he supposed to approach this? Should he even be getting involved? His mind swirled with questions to himself. Teeth sunk down into his bottom lip, before breaking into a sheepish smile, his eyes still on Teddy, “I guess there will be no need for me to introduce you both”]It wasn’t the introduction he was hoping for, “I’m sorry she blew you off. She likes to think she’s some kind of free spirit who doesn’t need anyone” As children she would profess she didn’t need the coven because she could already do magic on her own. Whereas Lawrence was convinced without the coven his life would fall apart. He needed them, but their parents failed to get inside Phoebe’s head the same way. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ THE LAST THING TEDDY wanted was to cause another row with Lawrence. He’d already almost lost him once, it was a miracle he could have Lawrence back now, and he couldn’t screw it up again. Thankfully, it didn’t seem like Lawrence wanted to lob his head (or something else) off for sleeping with Phoebe.
‘Should I speak to her about it?’
His first and immediate answer was, “Yes, maybe that’ll help if she━” but then he really thought about it, and that seemed like a terrible decision. In the coven, everybody talked to everybody. Secrets weren’t possible unless they were between him and his wife, and even then, they always had to constantly worry about being overheard. It was his regular way of thinking initially, and apparently the coven’s teachings still had its claws in Teddy despite all his time away. He hated feeling like he’d never escape it, but every little step taken was in the right direction.
“No, no.” Teddy sighed, letting his head drop defeatedly. He couldn’t imagine how awful that would turn out. “Clearly, she doesn’t want anything to do with me, so it’s okay. I wouldn’t want to bother her any further.” Tossing Lawrence a sad, consolation smile, he shrugged after a moment and pushed himself off the couch.
“Hey, it’s okay. I had a good night, and now I have you back, and that’s all that matters. What about a celebratory drink?” Desperate to have this glum situation looking up, Teddy moved to the kitchen and poured them each a drink. The rest of their day would be filled with better conversation, he’d personally see to it, and they wouldn’t have to go through another break like that ever again.
