Stefan felt a smile form on his face as Bonnie said that all that mattered was that Damon was trying. There was a time when Stefan had thought that he would have to leave Mystic Falls or keep Damon locked away to make sure that he didn’t end up hurting anyone else but after finding out that Katherine wasn’t in the tomb after all something had changed in his brother and slowly but surely he had started getting back to being the person that Stefan had known while he was younger. He knew that it hadn’t been easy for Damon to come to terms with the fact that Katherine had played him but over time he seemed to have managed it and having Claire back definitely seemed to have helped. Now that he didn’t have to worry about his brother so much Stefan was finally free to start thinking about what he wanted to do with his own life once more and helping Bonnie and Scott was one of the easiest decisions that he had made in a long time. He still felt bad that things hadn’t worked out between them but since then his feelings for Bonnie had turned from friendship to something so much stronger and he was now starting to realise just how true that was. As Bonnie said that he couldn’t get away with saying that he didn’t dance any more, Stefan couldn’t help but laugh. He had always protested in the past and given in and the truth was that this time around he didn’t want to argue anyway. He hadn’t seen Bonnie in person like this for such a long time and he knew that he wanted to make the most of this time while he could. He knew that it was only a matter of time before she went to seek out Elena or Caroline since she hadn’t seen them for ages either and she had known them much longer than she had known him but so far she was staying put and he couldn’t deny that he was glad about that. “You’ve got a point there,” he said, his smile returning as he finished his drink before nodding. “Yeah, I do,” he admitted. He wasn’t sure what he would end up painting on Bonnie or what she would end up painting on him but he knew that it was all a part of the experience and that was something that he knew that it would be a shame to miss out on. “It would be a shame not to,” he agreed, watching as Bonnie grabbed the paint and brushes before returning to him. Soon enough she was taking his hand in hers and leading him deeper into the crowd and he didn’t hesitate in following her. She seemed to pause for a minute before handing him the paint brush and Stefan took it from her before dipping the tip of the brush into the paint. Thinking for a moment, he touched the tip of the brush to Bonnie’s skin before starting to trace a few different patterns. Once he was done he took a step backwards to check his work. “What do you think?” he asked, making sure that she was happy before slipping off his jacket. He had opted for a sleeveless shirt for the evening but as he looked around he realised that a lot of the guys had gone one step further and since they were going for the full experience, Stefan pulled his shirt off as well so that Bonnie could paint him properly. No sooner had he done so than he caught Evangeline’s eye and she took the jacket and shirt from him, promising that she would put them in the back for him so that he could collect them later. Thanking her, he turned his attention back to Bonnie. “I guess it’s your turn,” he said, his smile returning as his eyes met hers. BONNIE BENNETT

━ i'd love to CHANGE the world but i don't know what to do ━ Bonnie stayed where she was as she focused on Stefan who was beginning to draw different patterns on her skin, the feeling of the paint was not bad at all, actually. It was kind of really nice, a little bit cold at first but it was something that she got used to pretty quickly. She felt a small smile rest on her lips as she waited for Stefan to finish and when he did, she reached for her phone so that she could take a look through the selfie mode on her camera before a grin formed on her lips. "It looks really pretty, thank you. You've got some serious skills." She complimented in a soft voice as she moved to put her phone back inside of her small purse.
When it was time for her to paint on Stefan, she watched as he shrugged off his jacket with his shirt following shortly after which made her eyes widen slightly as she settled her gaze on his chest before her eyes moved lower as she felt her heart speed up. It wasn't long before she was feeling her cheeks heat up just from seeing that alone. Bonnie quickly looked up to meet Stefan's eyes, her heart still hammering in her chest. "Uh━" Function, brain, please. Bonnie's lips parted and closed multiple times as she struggled to form a proper sentence without sounding like a stuttering idiot. "Yeah, I━I guess so." Bonnie's lips stretched to form a shy smile as she tried her hardest to not let her gaze wander again, especially now that Stefan was looking at her. She didn't want to come off as a creep or anything like that.
She cleared her throat once more and dipped the tip of her brush into the paint before wiping the excess against the rim of the bucket. She began to draw patterns on Stefan's chest, bottom lip caught between her teeth as her brows furrowed in concentration.
Bonnie was carefully with the strokes of the brush against Stefan's skin, wiping away any smudges with her pinky before she finally stopped and looked up at Stefan with a proud smile forming on her lips. "Okay, I'm all done." She announced with a quick nod of her head as she moved back slightly to look at her work and only her work. But it wasn't that easy for her to stay true to that as her eyes slowly moved down to settle on Stefan's abdomen.
Focus, Bonnie. Focus.
The voice in her head repeated again and again which made her finally blink out of her daze and look up at Stefan with a soft smile forming on her lips. "What do you think?" Bonnie asked, hoping that he liked her work. Though she'd be more than happy to make adjustments if he didn't like a certain part about the patterns that she painted on his skin. On his gorgeous skin━ Dammit, Bonnie.

Stefan had done a lot of things over the course of his life but this was definitely a first for him. He hadn’t heard of a blacklight party before Evangeline had said that she was hosting one at the Grill but looking around at all of the people dancing and having fun while the neon paint illuminated their skin, Stefan could definitely see why it had appealed to so many people. There were a lot of faces there that he recognised and he watched them for a moment as he waited for Bonnie to return with the paint and brushes but it wasn’t long before his attention was focused solely on her once more. He hadn’t realised just how much he had missed her while she had been away until he’d seen her at the station when he’d picked her up and now it was almost like he couldn’t get enough of being around her. Bonnie was selfless and kind hearted and she always put the needs of everyone else before her own. She had been through so much and yet somehow she had still become an incredible person and he knew that things were going to be so much better now that she was back home where she belonged. Just the thought of painting Bonnie’s body was enough to make him a little hot under the collar but he knew that he needed to stay focused. Bonnie was Elena and Caroline’s best friend and he knew that she would never think of him as anything more than her friend and Elena’s ex so he did his best to push all other thoughts out of his mind. Painting different patterns on her skin was a good distraction for a while and he couldn’t deny that he was pleased with the result when he was done although he couldn’t help but feel a little nervous as she checked his work using her phone. “You’re welcome, I’m glad you like it,” he admitted, his smile returning as his eyes met hers. Normally Stefan was more reserved about taking his shirt off, he was the complete opposite of his brother in that respect, but this wasn’t a normal situation and he and Bonnie had both agreed that they wanted the full experience so he knew that he might as well go for it. He could see the way that Bonnie’s cheeks flushed red and for a moment he wondered if perhaps that was a step too far but despite all of the noise around them he was pretty sure that he could hear her heart racing slightly and for a moment he let himself hope that perhaps he wasn’t the only one feeling something. The sensation of the brush moving over his skin was strange at first but it was something that he quickly got used to and he waited patiently for her to finish, his eyes fixed on her the whole time. He could see the concentration evident on Bonnie’s face and he couldn’t deny that it was cute. Anyone else probably wouldn’t have worried so much about what they were doing but not Bonnie, she was being really careful and he could see that she was proud of herself when she was done. For a moment her eyes seemed to linger and that was enough to bring a gentle smile to Stefan’s face. Ever since he’d realised he liked her he had told himself that it was a one sided thing but the more time they were spending together now the more he was starting to wonder if that was the truth after all. All night he had struggled to keep his eyes off her and it had been the same for Bonnie. She still hadn’t even looked around for Elena or Caroline that he had seen either so he wanted to believe that it was something more for her too. Turning to look at her work in the mirror at the side of the room once she was done, Stefan’s eyes widened slightly in surprise as his gaze swept over the patterns she had created. “It’s perfect, I love it,” he said sincerely before turning back to look at her once more and holding his hand out to her. “Now I believe it’s time I made good on that promise of a dance,” he said, waiting for Bonnie to take his hand before lifting their joined hands and spinning her around. ━ i'd love to CHANGE the world but i don't know what to do ━ Bonnie really could feel her resolve shaking a little, threatening to give in. She couldn't stop staring at Stefan. He was so ... handsome and she felt herself grow weak in front of him. She never knew anyone could do something like this to her --- never knew they could shake her like that but here he was, standing completely still but still managing the shake Bonnie's world. She took in a shaky breath, her eyes slowly moving from Stefan's eyes as she watched him take a look at himself to see what Bonnie had drawn on his skin. She felt a soft smile appear on her lips when she heard him say that he loved it. "I'm glad," Bonnie said in a soft voice, her eyes relaxing on Stefan's once more.
Bonnie's lips stretched to form a grin at his words before letting out a soft noise of surprise when he spun her around. When she came face to face with him again, her hands relaxed on his chest to keep herself stable. A shy smile appeared on her lips as she looked up at him and nodded her head a few times. "Smooth," she complimented with a grin forming on her lips shortly after. "Okay, let's dance, then." Bonnie's voice was soft as she looked at Stefan, her body soon moving along with the beat of the song playing in the background.
Her eyes remained perfectly fixed on Stefan, barely paying attention to anything else. It was quite obvious that Bonnie was having a great time right now, with the way she was laughing and looking at Stefan with so much happiness evident in her eyes. She can't remember when was the last time she had actually felt like this before. Just ... pure happiness.
Bonnie danced with Stefan and even took the time to listen to Josie as she sang in front of the crowd, feeling proud of her for it. She must be so ... nervous up there and once she was done, Bonnie clapped and cheered for her, her lips stretching to form a grin. It wasn't long before she was turning around to face Stefan once again. "She was amazing up there, wasn't she?" Bonnie said with a soft smile tugging at her lips, her eyes still focused on Stefan as her body began moving again once the music started playing back up again. "I'm really glad I came here with you. I'm having so much fun." Bonnie's voice was soft as she spoke. "I can't remember when was the last time I felt this... happy." Especially after everything that's happened. "Thank you for this,"

Stefan hadn’t expected the night to take this turn of events at all, he had felt sure that he would end up going to the party on his own, maybe hang out with his friends for a while and then head home. He hadn’t expected to end up with Bonnie painting his body like this even after he’d picked her up from the station but he couldn’t deny that it felt good. Normally he was so reserved when it came to his body but there were so many guys around the Grill who were going for it and he knew that he might as well join them. For a moment she had seemed a little distracted but she soon recovered and Stefan found himself smiling at her in return. “How could I not?” he asked as his gaze came to rest on her once more. He had known that the two of them had grown close during the time that Bonnie had been away but now that she was back it was almost like things had shifted up a gear, on his part at least. No longer could Stefan deny that he had feelings for Bonnie but he knew that he shouldn’t act on them and risk their friendship so he was doing his best to bite his tongue. Even so he still couldn’t resist spinning Bonnie around and his smile widened as her hands came to rest against his chest as she steadied herself. “I’m glad you approve,” he chuckled, his smile returning as they began to dance. When he’d first arrived in Mystic Falls he had been so intent on getting to know Elena that he hadn’t really paid much attention to anyone else but over time her friends had become his as well and Bonnie was definitely someone that he had come to care about a lot. It was easy to get lost in the moment as they laughed and with the way that Bonnie was looking at him he could tell that she was happy too and that really was all that he wanted for her. He knew that she and Scott were good together but their relationship had come to an end a long time ago now just like his own had with Elena and he knew that now was perhaps the right time for both of them to move on. The only time Stefan tore his gaze away from Bonnie was when Josie took to the stage and the two of them watched her together. The whole time Stefan had a smile on his face and he nodded as Bonnie said that Josie was amazing up there. “She was incredible,” he agreed, his eyes picking the young witch out among the crowd once more as the crowd cheered her as she got down off the stage and kissed Hope. “Looks like she’s really going for it tonight,” he said as he nodded in their direction before turning his attention back to Bonnie once more. “I am too I was dreading coming here on my own,” he admitted as they started dancing together once again. He had promised himself that he was going to go but he hadn’t really been looking forward to it at all. He hadn’t thought that he would end up enjoying himself as much as he was right now and that was all thanks to Bonnie. “Neither can I,” he admitted as Bonnie said that she couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt this happy. “You’re welcome, I’m glad you decided to come,” he said gently as they danced. They carried on like that for a long time and Stefan didn’t even notice as the crowd started to thin out around them until they were the only ones left at which point Evangeline made her way over with his jacket and shirt in hand. “I think that’s our cue to go,” he chuckled as he took them from her and thanked her. “I had no idea it was so late,” he added as his eyes met Bonnie’s once more. “I’ll give you a ride home,” he said, knowing that he wasn’t going to let Bonnie walk home on her own this late. ━ i'd love to CHANGE the world but i don't know what to do ━ Bonnie was having quite a lot of fun with Stefan. It made her relax quite a bit and forget about all her past hardships. She was really happy to be doing this with him. Sure, she would've had quite a lot of fun with Elena and Caroline if she had decided to go with them but there was something so special about spending time with Stefan. He made her feel safe and honestly, Bonnie couldn't ask for more.
She was incredible, Looks like she’s really going for it tonight, I am too I was dreading coming here on my own,
Bonnie nodded her head in agreement with Stefan when he said that Josie was incredible. "She really was." She agreed in a soft voice before her surprise was evident on her face when Josie got off the stage and kissed Hope which got quite a lot of cheers. Bonnie was definitely one of the people who had cheered for the two of them, really happy for them. "She really is! That's honestly the cutest thing I've seen in a while." Bonnie's voice was fond as she spoke, her eyes focused on the two of them for a moment before she looked over at Stefan, wondering if she'd be able to find her own courage to do the same with Stefan.
Neither can I, You’re welcome, I’m glad you decided to come,
A sympathetic smile formed on Bonnie's lips at Stefan's words. She really hoped that his next days will all be spent in happiness because he deserved it all. He deserved every single bit of happiness. She'd give him the world in the palm of her hands if she could. "Me too." Bonnie said with a sincere smile forming on her lips and from there, she danced and danced with Stefan, barely realizing that people were beginning to leave already. She seemed to snap back to reality when Evangeline came back with Stefan's jacket and shirt.
I think that’s our cue to go, I had no idea it was so late, I’ll give you a ride home,
"Wow, I didn't even feel everyone leave." She looked around her with a surprised look on her face before her attention turned back to Stefan. "It's definitely our cue to leave." Bonnie agreed with a chuckle falling from her lips. She nodded her head at Stefan's offer to give her a ride home. "Yeah, sure. Let's go." She whispered a soft 'thank you' to Evangeline before she began making her way toward the door with Stefan and once she was outside, she began making her way to his car, wondering just where her liquor courage had gone. She looked over at Stefan, wanting to say something but instead she pressed her lips together and shook her head, deciding to get into the car instead, hoping that the same courage that had made her wear that wristband would come back before the night ends.
She hoped.

Stefan had thought that he would end up heading to the Grill for a while, showing his face and then leaving before too long. He knew that he could have ended up hanging out with some of his friends but they all seemed so happy and he had known that they hadn’t needed him hanging around as the odd one out so he hadn’t thought that he would spend too much time there but being able to spend time with Bonnie like this was enough to make him want the night to never end. It had been a while since he and Elena had broken up and even though Stefan had loved her he knew now that they weren’t right for each other. They’d tried to make it work but in the end they had realised that they were at different places in their lives and they were better off as friends. Stefan had been dreading putting himself out there again but spending time with Bonnie felt so natural and he was glad that she’d asked to join him that evening. They had talked a lot while she was away but seeing her now was enough to make him realise just how much she truly meant to him and that was a little scary to say the least. Up until the moment that Josie headed onto the stage to perform Stefan only had eyes for one person. He was surprised that Caroline or Elena or even Matt hadn’t decided they wanted to catch up with Bonnie for a while now that she was back but if he was honest he was glad that the two of them had some space. Cheering for Josie once the performance was over, Stefan couldn’t deny that he was surprised when she kissed Hope but at the same time he was proud of her. “Same here, they’re great together,” he admitted. He knew that things couldn’t have been easy for them over the last year or so considering that they’d both been aged up by the spell but they had turned into great kids and he was glad that they didn’t seem to be letting anything hold them back. Stefan knew deep down that he really needed to take a leaf out of their book but that was easier said than done. Bonnie was one of Elena’s best friends and even though he and Elena weren’t together any longer he knew that the last thing he wanted was to make things awkward between them, not to mention he didn’t even know if Bonnie felt the same way he did. Stefan would be the first to admit that he had never been very good at reading things like that but he knew he didn’t want to risk the friendship they had built so for now he knew he had to stay quiet. After that the two of them literally danced the night away and Stefan didn’t even realise that everyone around them had left until Evangeline made her way over to them and handed him his jacket and shirt. “I guess it’s true what they say, time flies when you’re having fun,” Stefan said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Bonnie. Soon enough they were outside heading to his car and Stefan opened the door for her so she could get in. “I hope you’ve enjoyed tonight, I know I have,” he admitted as he pulled the car out of the parking lot and started driving in the direction of Bonnie’s house. “I expected Caroline or Elena to steal you away for a while but I’m glad they didn’t,” he added as he pulled onto the street that would soon lead them to Bonnie’s. It wasn’t much longer until they reached her house and as Stefan brought the car to a stop outside, he turned the ignition off and turned to look at Bonnie. “I’m really glad you’re home,” he admitted. ━ i'd love to CHANGE the world but i don't know what to do ━ I guess it’s true what they say, time flies when you’re having fun,
Bonnie chuckled and nodded her head in agreement with Stefan because he was definitely right about that. Time really flied when she was with Stefan and it really showed just how much fun she was having with him. "Yeah, you're right 'bout that." Bonnie said with a gentle smile pulling at the edge of her lips. "I wish there was a button to turn back the time a little bit more so we could keep going." Her voice was soft as she spoke, her smile never once leaving her lips.
I hope you’ve enjoyed tonight, I know I have,
Bonnie headed out of the Grill, taking in a deep breath before she released it and began heading to the car with Stefan. When he opened the door for her, she made sure to thank him before she settled into her seat, reaching over to buckle her seatbelt and once that was done, she leaned back into her seat, a smile still present on her lips. Bonnie nodded her head almost instantly as an answer, her eyes relaxing on Stefan once more. "I have. I enjoyed it a lot." And there was no lie detected in her words, she was speaking with so much sincerity because she meant every last bit of it. She really enjoyed tonight. "When I was at the station, I thought my first day back would be spent with me on my couch, eating my feelings away. I really didn't expect any of this and it made tonight even more special to me."
I expected Caroline or Elena to steal you away for a while but I’m glad they didn’t,
Bonnie chuckled at Stefan's words before she nodded her head in agreement with him. "Honestly? Same here. Caroline definitely noticed us dancing together and she gave me those weird wiggling eyebrows, so she's definitely gonna grill me for answers tomorrow." Another chuckle left Bonnie's lips as she recalled the weird look that Caroline had given her when she saw the two of them dancing together before her lips split into a grin and she wriggled her eyebrows at her, mouthing 'go get him, tiger' before she returned to what she was doing.
I’m really glad you’re home,
Bonnie felt a little bit disappointed when she saw her house getting closer and closer until eventually Stefan parked outside of her house and she knew that it was time for her to go home. She turned to look at Stefan with a soft smile resting on her lips when she registered his words. "Me too," she said in a soft voice, her eyes still focused on him. Bonnie's lips parted like she wanted to say something but stopped shortly after, her lips pressing together again.
There goes her courage.
Bonnie gulped past the lump in her throat. "Goodnight, Stefan. Thank you for tonight." The young witch said with a quick nod of her head following, her eyes scanning Stefan's face for a moment before she reached for the seatbelt to unbuckle it.
It'd be so easy for her to lean forward and kiss him now.
But she didn't do it.
Bonnie instead got out of the car with a soft sigh leaving her lips and closed the door gently behind her. She began making her way to the door, stopping once she was there to turn around and give Stefan a gentle wave before she eventually turned the lock and opened the door so that she could step inside. Once she was inside, she closed the door gently behind her.
Bonnie pressed her back against the door and leaned her head back with a sigh leaving her lips, feeling disappointed with herself for not doing what she'd been wanting to do since the moment she laid eyes on Stefan. Once again, she was letting something she wanted slip from between her fingers. Bonnie knew that if she kept doing that, life would just pass her by and there was nothing that terrified Bonnie more than the thought of winding up alone. She was terrified of the thought of growing old all alone without someone by her side.
The second she pictured herself, old and feeble sitting on a rocking chair, she pictured Stefan sitting next to her, keeping her company and looking at her so lovingly and that was all the encouragement she needed to push away from the door and open it so she could get out again. It was like her heart had already decided that it wanted Stefan and she was so weak against its pull. She took the first cab to the Salvatore house, making a note to purchase a car for herself later, it'd just be safer that way and she, thankfully, had the money for it.
Bonnie got out of the cab after paying the driver and finally began making her way to the Salvatore house where she gently knocked on the door before she could talk herself out of doing it.
It's now or never, Bonnie.

Stefan had known that he wouldn’t have been able to get away with not going to the party at the Grill, he didn’t doubt that Caroline or one of the others would have dragged him along if he had decided to skip it, but he had thought that he would just end up showing his face and then heading home again. He hadn’t thought that he would end up getting involved in the painting or that he would spend so much time dancing with Bonnie but the truth was that he had enjoyed himself a lot more than he had thought he would, so much so that he had completely lost track of time and hadn’t realised that everyone around them had already left. “Same here. Maybe we should do this again sometime?” Stefan suggested. He knew that it would only be as friends as he was certain that there was no way that Bonnie would feel the same way about him that he felt about her but the truth was that as long as he got to spend time with her then he knew that it didn’t really matter. He wanted something more but after everything that had happened he knew that he was lucky to have Bonnie in his life at all so he knew that he didn’t want to push his luck. As they headed outside it was automatic for Stefan to open the car door for Bonnie and he couldn’t stop a smile from forming on his face as she thanked him. Closing the door behind her, he made his way around to the driver’s side and climbed into the car. “I’m glad,” he admitted as Bonnie said that she’d enjoyed it a lot. As she spoke again, his smile returned. “Even if you had, you wouldn’t have been alone,” he assured her. “I’m glad you had a good time though.” Stefan knew that he would have been there for Bonnie if she’d asked and he didn’t doubt that Elena and Caroline would have been as well. Bonnie meant so much to all of them and he knew that they would be pleased to have her back as well. Stefan honestly had thought that she would have wanted to spend some time with the two girls but instead she’d spent the night dancing with him and Stefan couldn’t deny that it meant a lot to him. As Bonnie said that Caroline definitely saw them dancing together, Stefan couldn’t help but laugh. “Rather you than me, she can be relentless sometimes,” he chuckled. Caroline was one of his best friends and he knew that she only wanted what was best for all of them but he knew that she had a way of getting information out of everyone and if she tried it with him then he knew that it would only be a matter of time before she learned how he felt about Bonnie and he knew that the last thing he wanted was to make things awkward. He and Elena had ended things on good terms and it had been long enough that he felt ready to move on but Bonnie was one of her best friends and he knew that that would surely make things complicated. It wasn’t long before they reached Bonnie’s house and for the first time Stefan found himself wishing that the drive could have taken longer. He knew that he couldn’t be selfish with Bonnie although he had already spent the whole evening with her so in a way he already had been. Bonnie hadn’t seemed to mind though, in fact she had seemed to really enjoy it and for that he was glad. For a moment after Bonnie agreed with him it looked like she wanted to say something else but she seemed to think better of it and instead she wished him a good night. “Good night Bonnie,” he said, his smile returning as he nodded. Being so close to her it was easy to imagine what it would be like to lean over and kiss her but he refrained. Bonnie had forgiven him for what had happened to her Grams but he knew that she still wouldn’t want him in her life like that no matter how much fun they’d just had so he knew that he needed to let her go. Watching Bonnie head up the path to her front door, for a moment Stefan thought about going after her but as she closed the door behind her a sigh escaped his lips and he hesitated for a moment before starting the car and driving home. The silence engulfed him as he headed home and as he pulled up outside he knew that he was being an idiot for not at least trying to give himself the chance to be happy but if he was honest there was a part of him that still wasn’t sure that he deserved it. Instead he climbed out of the car and headed into the Boarding House before closing the door behind him. Heading into the living room he poured himself a drink from Damon’s favourite bottle and lifted the glass to his lips. Taking a sip, he only waited a moment longer before draining the rest of the contents and setting the glass down on the sideboard, knowing that he could wash it up in the morning. A sigh escaped his lips as he headed in the direction of the stairs but he stopped as he heard a knock on the door. It was really late so he wasn’t sure who it could be but as he opened the door he was surprised to find Bonnie standing before him. “Bonnie, what’s going on? Are you okay?” he asked as his gaze swept over her, instantly worried about her. BONNIE BENNETT

━ i'd love to CHANGE the world but i don't know what to do ━ Same here. Maybe we should do this again sometime? Even if you had, you wouldn’t have been alone, I’m glad you had a good time though. Rather you than me, she can be relentless sometimes,
Bonnie nodded her head right away, her lips stretching to form a gentle smile. "Yeah, I'd really like that, Stefan." She would be more than happy to have a repeat of tonight with Stefan. She couldn't help but agree with Stefan. She could already imagine Elena and Caroline fitting onto the couch with her, watching some sort of old rom-com with her as they all chatted about what she had missed while she was away. It was a thought that already put a smile on her lips. But then she also imagined herself spending her first day back with Stefan and it made her smile even more. "You're definitely right about that." Bonnie said in a soft voice, her eyes still focused solely on Stefan. "It's all thanks to you." Bonnie added a moment later when Stefan told her he was glad that she had a good time here. It was really all thanks to him. A chuckle left Bonnie's lips at Stefan's words. "Tell me about it." Bonnie breathed with a fond grin forming on her lips shortly after. "She'll probably hold me hostage in my own house and won't let me get out until I spill all the details." Bonnie joked in a light-hearted manner.
***
Bonnie nervously shifted weight from one foot to the other, her stomach feeling like it was tied up in knots. She was really nervous and honestly, she couldn't help it. She was putting herself first and it always felt so nerve wrecking when she did it. Bonnie was running on faux courage and when Stefan opened the door, looking instantly worried about seeing her on his doorstep after just parting ways with her and honestly, she didn't blame him.
Before Bonnie could talk herself down from doing it or before she could come up with some sort of silly excuse as to why she's here right now, she took a step closer and another, leaning up on the tip of her toes as she cupped his cheeks and pressed a kiss to Stefan's lips, her heart instantly skipping a beat at the contact. She really couldn't believe that she was kissing Stefan right now.
Her best friend.
And the best part was that she felt no regrets. If anything, she felt happy but nonetheless, Bonnie leaned back as her courage eventually ran out and the adrenaline rush finally faded out. Her heels made contact with the ground again, her eyes opening to look up at Stefan, her hands eventually leaving his cheeks. "I━" Bonnie's mouth felt so dry like she had just finished running in a desert with no food or water for days. "I really like you, Stefan." Bonnie admitted in a soft voice, although it was a little bit shaky from nerves. She can't remember when was the last time she'd felt this nervous.
"I just━ I just really like you and I know there was a time where I didn't trust you or your brother because of what you are but I realized that I judged you too fast and I'm really sorry about that." Bonnie's heart was still beating wildly in her chest and there was nothing that she could do to stop it. "You always give so much of yourself to your friends and family. You have such a pure heart and you always help people without expecting anything in return. You've been there for me at my lowest and you helped Scott and I so we wouldn't have to do the whole long-distance relationship and it was just so..." Bonnie ran her tongue over the surface of her bottom lip, the surface feeling a little bit dry. "So selfless of you." She finished her sentence with a gentle smile forming on her lips.
"I've always put people first and tonight, I had a lot of fun with you and so I decided to finally put myself first to tell you how I feel about you and it's okay if you don't feel the same, it really is. I just knew deep down that I'd be drowning in regrets if I didn't, at least, take a chance and tell you how I really feel about you."

“Great,” Stefan said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Bonnie. He was surprised that she would be up for having a repeat of that night but he couldn’t deny that he was pleased about it. There was a time when the two of them weren’t that close but over time Bonnie had come to mean so much to him and Stefan knew that he would take whatever time he could get with her now that she was back. There was a part of him that wondered what it might be like to be able to call it a date but he knew that he needed to push those thoughts out of his mind. Bonnie had forgiven him for what had happened to her Grams in the end and she knew that he’d tried to help her and Scott make things work by compelling the Dean at Whitmore to offer the course that Scott wanted to do but they were still so different and he couldn’t shake the feeling that Bonnie would never want to be with someone like him. “I don’t know about that, you’re the one who saved me from being the third wheel tonight,” Stefan admitted as Bonnie said it was all thanks to him. He knew that Caroline and Dec would have spent time with him at the party if he hadn’t had Bonnie to keep him company or Matt and Rebekah or some of his other friends might have done so but either way he would have been the odd one out and that was something that he hadn’t been looking forward to. “Definitely, I hope the fridge is fully stocked,” Stefan chuckled, knowing that it would be just like Caroline to do something like that. “I know she’s really missed you.”
Just the thought of the smile that seemed to have been a permanent fixture on Bonnie’s face all night was enough to fill Stefan with a warmth that he hadn’t felt for a long time. Relationships had never been easy for him, first Valerie had left and then Katherine had turned his life upside down and there had been a few others along the way but his most serious relationship after Katherine was with Elena. Stefan had thought that he’d found the one but he knew now that he had been wrong. They were good together for a while but they were too different and that was something that he had learned to accept. They had wanted different things out of life and deep down Stefan had always felt like Elena was holding something back. What that was he had no idea but it hadn’t made things easy and he had realised that he didn’t want to be in a relationship like that. He had always been the kind of person who put others first and considering the awful things that he had done in the past he knew that it wasn’t much but he wanted to make the lives of those around him better. Just once he wanted to be with someone who chose him and him alone, though, and he knew that he didn’t want to settle for anything else. Stefan knew who it was that he wanted to be with but he also knew that she was someone that he could never have. That didn’t stop his heart from skipping a beat as he saw Bonnie standing on his doorstep, though, but he was also worried that something had happened. It soon became clear that it wasn’t what he’d thought, though, as soon enough Bonnie’s hands were cupping his cheeks and she was kissing him. For a moment Stefan was surprised but he quickly recovered and his hands found her waist as he kissed her back. In that moment his lips moved against hers with such ease and nothing else in the world mattered. Too soon it was over, though, and Stefan cleared his throat as Bonnie leaned back, knowing that he had gotten caught up in the moment. He wanted to say something but he wasn’t sure what Bonnie wanted right now so instead he stayed silent and as she finally broke that silence, the words that left her lips were just the words that Stefan had been needing to hear. “You do?” he breathed, hardly able to believe it as she said that she liked him. It wasn’t long before the words started pouring out of Bonnie’s mouth and Stefan shook his head as she apologised for judging him too quickly. “You have nothing to apologise for, I would have done the same in your position,” he assured her. In that moment he couldn’t help but wonder if this was all just a dream but if it was then it was one that he knew he didn’t want to wake up from. Stefan stayed quiet as Bonnie continued but as she said it was ok if he didn’t feel the same, he brought his hand up and brushed her hair away from her face gently. “I’m glad you finally decided to put yourself first,” he said as his eyes met hers. “I really like you too. I’m not sure when it changed to something more than friendship, perhaps it was all those hours we spent talking while you were at your dad’s, but when I think about what I want the future to be like you’re always right there beside me,” he said gently before letting his hands find her waist once more. This time he pulled her to him and he poured everything he was feeling into that kiss. He knew that they were different, Bonnie was mortal while he was frozen at seventeen forever, but he knew what he wanted and that was Bonnie. “I never thought you would feel the same,” he added, needing to say those words out loud and make sure that this was real. ━ i'd love to CHANGE the world but i don't know what to do ━ I don’t know about that, you’re the one who saved me from being the third wheel tonight,Definitely, I hope the fridge is fully stocked, I know she’s really missed you.
Bonnie chuckled at Stefan's words when he mentioned that she had saved him from being the third wheel tonight. She could definitely imagine Declan and Caroline encouraging him to join the two of them, or maybe Rebekah and Matt. "Well, in that case, I'm glad I'm here. No third-wheeling for your tonight." Bonnie said with a grin tugging at her features. "Or any other night. If you ever don't wanna third-wheel, just call me. I'll be happy to rescue you." Bonnie said with a quick nod of her head following. She let out a chuckle at Stefan's words as she nudged him with her elbow, her laughter still present. "I really missed her too. She always called me at the weirdest hours but I was happy every time she did it. She always had so much to say, too. I never knew someone's life could be so ... active." Bonnie said with a chuckle falling from her lips with a shake of her head following. Caroline always made sure to tell her everything that has happened so she wouldn't be out of the loop and she absolutely loved her for it.
When Bonnie stepped forward and kissed Stefan, she didn't expect him to kiss her back but he did. His hands were on her waist and his lips were moving against hers and it was something that made her release a soft gasp against his lips. She missed the contact of his lips against her own when she pulled back and she barely held back the urge to kiss him again.
"I do," she breathed out softly, her eyes focused solely on Stefan. "Thank you." Bonnie said in a soft voice when Stefan told her that she has nothing to apologize for. He was so understanding that it made her heart skip a beat. Her eyes widened slightly as she began listening to Stefan's words and it really came as a surprise to her that Stefan felt the same way for her and that he imagined his future with her next to him because she imagined the same thing, too.
Bonnie almost pinched herself to make sure that she's not dreaming right now but she knew that she wasn't.
It was all real.
Stefan felt the same way, too.
Bonnie looped her arms around Stefan's neck when he kissed her again, his hands on her waist. She leaned up on the tip of her toes again to kiss him at a deeper angle as her eyes fluttered shut, allowing herself to get lost in the sensation of his lips against his own.
It was everything she'd imagined and more.
"I never thought you would feel the same." Bonnie admitted, her words coming out soft, if not a little bit breathless from the kiss. "Do you━" Bonnie began, though she paused for a moment to gather her breath once more. "Do you wanna go out on a date? Tomorrow?" Bonnie asked with a gentle smile tugging on her lips.

“You might regret that offer, I’ll probably take you up on it,” Stefan chuckled. He had started to grow used to being the third wheel after he and Elena broke up but the truth was that it still wasn’t something that he was comfortable with so he knew that he would much rather avoid that if he could. It would also mean that he would have an excuse to spend some more time with Bonnie and that was never going to be a bad thing as far as he was concerned. They had talked a lot while she was away but a part of him had wondered if things would end up going back to the way they used to be when she finally returned. Back then they hadn’t spent too much time together and he knew that he didn’t want it to go back to being like that between them but if tonight was anything to go by then Stefan had a feeling that he wasn’t going to have to worry about that after all. “That’s Caroline, there’s never a dull moment,” he grinned, knowing that it was definitely true. “I don’t know how Dec keeps up with her sometimes,” he added with a laugh. Caroline was happy, though, and so was Dec so he was so glad that the two of them had each other.
The kiss was the last thing that Stefan had expected but it didn’t take him long to recover and kiss Bonnie back. It was something that he had thought about so many times and even more so after spending the night dancing with her at the Grill. Something had changed between them and Stefan would be lying if he said that that wasn’t a little scary considering that none of his past relationships had worked out but he couldn’t deny that this time felt different. Bonnie knew everything about him, the good and the bad, and she knew about the fact that he had kids. She knew everything that he had done and yet here she was kissing him. It was so much more than he deserved but in that moment Stefan knew that he didn’t want it to end. Naturally it had to but even as Bonnie pulled back she didn’t move too far away and his eyes widened in surprise as she confirmed that she liked him. Bonnie had been on his mind so much lately but every time he’d thought about her he had quickly dismissed the idea of anything else happening between them because he had felt sure that she would never want him in her life as anything more than a friend. She deserved so much better than the hand that she had been dealt in life and he had already been trying to make sure that she didn’t endure anymore heartache than she had to. That was why he’d stepped in and compelled the Dean, he had never told Bonnie and Scott that he’d done it but they had figured it out anyway and even though things hadn’t worked out between them he was still glad that they’d had the chance to give it a go. Now Scott had moved on with Malia and it seemed like Bonnie was ready to move on too, just like Stefan was. He had never thought that her homecoming would end up taking this turn but he knew that he didn’t want to try and fight it. Instead this time it was Stefan’s turn to kiss Bonnie and he found himself smiling into the kiss as she wrapped her arms around his neck and moved so she could deepen the kiss. Each first kiss was different but with Bonnie it felt right and he pulled her closer to him as his lips continued to move against hers. Finally breaking the kiss, Stefan looked at her in surprise as she said she had never thought that he would feel the same. “Are you kidding? I’d be crazy not to,” he assured her. Bonnie was incredible and he’d finally realised just how much during all of their chats while she was away. As she asked if he wanted to go out on a date tomorrow, Stefan felt a smile form on his face. “I’d love to,” he nodded. “Would you like to come in?” he asked, realising that he was being rude making her stand outside. It was then that he remembered that it was late, though, and he hesitated for a moment. “Unless you’d like me to give you a ride home?” he asked even though he didn’t really want to say goodbye to her again just yet. ━ i'd love to CHANGE the world but i don't know what to do ━ You might regret that offer, I’ll probably take you up on it, That’s Caroline, there’s never a dull moment, I don’t know how Dec keeps up with her sometimes,
Bonnie grinned at Stefan's words before her shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug, not really minding it. She'd be more than happy to stay with Stefan so he wouldn't have to be a third wheel all by himself, she'd be more than happy to keep him company in the meantime. A chuckle left Bonnie's lips at Stefan's words. "Yup. That's Caroline for you." A fond smile appeared on her lips as she spoke about her best friend. "Oh god, yeah. Poor guy." She joked in a light-hearted manner, playing along with Stefan. That once again reminded her of how easy it was to talk to Stefan, to have a laugh with him. He made her feel happy.
Kissing Stefan felt so right that she wanted to keep doing it, but she held back the urge so that they could talk to each other, but there was no denying that she thought about it a few times as her eyes strayed and relaxed on his lips while he talked. A blush soon crept up her neck to her cheeks when she processed Stefan's words, her heart skipping a beat. "I'd be crazy not to have feelings for you too, Stefan." Bonnie said in a soft voice, meaning every last bit of it. He was every girl's dream boyfriend. He was everything that Bonnie needed and more. Bonnie really liked him and she was going to hang onto him now with nails and teeth to make sure he doesn't slip from between her fingers.
God, she really liked him.
A soft smile appeared on Bonnie's lips when Stefan said that he'd love to go on a date tomorrow, her heart once more skipping a beat. "I'm really glad to hear that." She said in a soft voice, her eyes focused on Stefan. "Tomorrow it is, then." Her happiness was evident in her eyes.
She was momentarily surprised when Stefan asked her if she wanted to come in, but she quickly nodded her head, accepting his kind offer. "Yeah, okay. Thanks." She said with a gentle smile on her lips. "Maybe not right now, no." She didn't want the night to end just yet. Bonnie stepped into the Salvatore house, smiling a little bit to herself. "I have nothing to go back home to, anyway. So I can stay for a bit." She added a moment later, her shoulders lifting and dropping. She was also too old for curfew, so she could stay her for as long as she was welcomed here. "You can let me know whenever you feel tired and I'll go. No hard feelings." She added shortly after, her lips stretching to form a gentle smile, meaning every word.
Bonnie's eyes found Stefan once again and it reminded her of their kiss(es) which made her heart skip a beat as her gentle smile remained on her lips. She began making her way deeper into the Boarding House lest she brought Stefan closer for yet another kiss. She was trying her hardest to hold back her urges. Bonnie began making her way to the couch that faced the fireplace, welcoming the warmth with open arms. "I hope I didn't interrupt anything with my, uh, very sudden arrival." Bonnie was definitely starting to feel sheepish about the way she appeared with no warning beforehand.

Stefan hadn’t expected the night to go as well as it had done. He had already resigned himself to going to the Grill, showing his face and probably leaving after an hour or so but he had thought that would be it. He hadn’t planned on staying for as long as he had done or spending the whole time dancing with Bonnie. Dancing had never been his thing but he had made exceptions in the past for special occasions and he had done the same again for Bonnie that evening. If he was honest it had ended up being a lot of fun and he knew that he definitely wanted to spend time with her again when he could. They had stayed in touch so much more than he had thought they would do while Bonnie was away but nothing compared to being able to see her again like he was now. “They’re well suited for each other anyway. They make each other happy,” Stefan said, a smile forming on his face a she looked over at Bonnie. He knew that Caroline deserved it after everything that she had been through and Dec did as well. They were good together and they’d known each other for so long that they knew everything about each other and that went a long way as far as Stefan was concerned. That was what he wanted for himself as well. He’d thought that he’d found it with Elena but there were certain things about him that she hadn’t seemed able to completely accept and in the end he knew that it was for the best that they call it a day. He had managed to build a life for himself in Mystic Falls, he had more friends around him than he’d ever had before and he had his family in his life for the first time in years. Things were going well and Stefan knew that he wanted it to stay that way but at the same time he knew that there was still room in his life for someone else – for Bonnie. Kissing her felt right and after the amount of times that he had thought about kissing her he was so glad that it had surpassed his expectations. “Some would think you crazy for liking a vampire with bloodlust issues and two kids,” Stefan admitted. Bonnie knew all of that already but Stefan knew that it was easy to get caught up in the moment and he didn’t want Bonnie to end up doing something that she would end up regretting later when things settled down. She meant the world to Stefan, he really did have feelings for her and he wanted to be with her but Bonnie was such a good person and he knew that he didn’t want her to end up resenting him. “Are you sure you’re okay with all of that?” he asked, needing to make sure before either of them became too invested. Even so he couldn’t deny that he was looking forward to the idea of being able to go on a date with her and as Bonnie spoke, Stefan felt a smile form on his face. “Do you have any idea what you’d like to do?” he asked. It had been a while since he had last gone on a date so he really was open to ideas. As nice as this was Stefan knew that they couldn’t stand outside talking all night so it was easy for him to invite Bonnie into the Boarding House. He wouldn’t have been offended if she’d wanted to go home instead considering she’d had a long day first with travelling back to Mystic Falls and then going to the party but he couldn’t deny that he was glad that she wasn’t ready to go just yet. “You can stay as long as you like,” he assured her, knowing that he really wasn’t in a hurry for her to leave either. Heading into the living room, Stefan sat down on the sofa closest to the fireplace and gave Bonnie’s hand a gentle tug to get her to join him. “You didn’t at all, I was just having a drink and thinking about how stupid I was for letting you leave without telling you how I feel,” he admitted as he looked over at her. “I’m so glad you didn’t make that same mistake, it took a lot of guts.”BONNIE BENNETT
