It was amazing just how much things could change in the space of a day. For months she had been held captive and forced to move around to stop her kidnapper from being caught but the night before she had finally managed to escape. She had thought that he would end up finding her the same way that he had every time she’d tried to escape in the past but that night had been different. This time she’d managed to get the upper hand and she’d been able to get away. She had thought that was it, that she would find the police station and tell them what had happened but when the moonlight had hit her skin her body had started to change. Her mom had warned her that she would likely take after one of her parents given that they were both supernatural but Ria hadn’t had any idea which one of them she would take after. She had her answer now though, she was a werecreature like her dad and it was a scary thought to say the least. She knew that she had so much to learn but the truth was that she wasn’t worried about that at all right now. She’d been able to spend some time with her dad while she had waited for her mom and that was something that she knew that she wanted to hold on to. She wasn’t sure what the plan was now or whether they would end up going back home to Quantico but one thing that Ria knew for sure was that she wanted to see him again. For now she knew that she would just settle for feeling normal again though. She had known that she was safe at the police station and her dad had been there but it had been clear to her right from the start that he hadn’t known what to do or say. She had known that the man that had taken her couldn’t get to her again but the truth was that she had only truly felt safe when her mom had arrived. It had been just the two of them for Ria’s whole life and after getting away it was her mom that she had wanted to see more than anyone. The moment she had seen the police officer on the street she had felt like a little girl again and all she had wanted was to feel her mom’s arms around her and to have her tell her that everything was going to be ok. They’d reunited but hadn’t really had the chance to talk properly and Ria had been quiet as they had made their way to where they were going to be staying. It would have taken them hours to get back to their home in Quantico and the truth was that the last thing Ria wanted right now was to be cooped up in a car again for too long. She’d had enough of that while she was being held captive and she knew that she didn’t want to go through it again just yet. As it was now she had finally managed to change into some clothes that hadn’t come from the lost and found box at the police station and she sat on her bed desperately trying to think about just about anything other than what she had been through as they waited for the food to arrive. | When she went into work that morning, Toni received the news that she had waited months for. That her daughter had been found, alive, and she was in a small town of Mystic Falls Virginia. Needless to say, Toni got straight into her car and broke all the speeding laws getting to that town. It took hours, and she didn’t stop until she made it to Mystic Falls Police Station. When she arrived, her daughter wasn’t there and one of the officers on duty told her that her father picked her up.
After receiving his known address from the officer, she drove to reunite with her daughter…. And her husband. Everything was right in the world when she wrapped her arms around her little girl. If they hadn’t been so far then she would of took her home. Knowing probably all she wanted was to sleep in her own bed. But it was far too late to be travelling all the way back to Quantico. That also wasn’t the only thing that Toni needed to consider now. Marc knew about her, Ria found her father… and if Toni knew her daughter at all, she knew that she wouldn’t want to leave. She would need to know her father.
Toni promised Marc that she would be in contact with him, that she wasn’t going to leave the town. For tonight they would find a hotel, get some food and call it a night. Loading them both into a car she drove quickly to a hotel in town, keeping Ria in her sights all the time. Protective mother hen and Toni wasn’t ready to let her out of her sight yet. Getting them up to their room and let her daughter change into clothes of her own. Letting her use the bathroom Toni sank onto her bed and finally let out a deep breath. Feeling as though she had been holding her breath since she left Quantico and finally let out the emotions she had been holding onto for months.
Reaching for some tissues from her handbag she wiped her eyes from the tears that were freefalling. Distracting herself with ordering food on room service as there was no way in hell, she was leaving this room tonight. Her daughter back in her own clothes, Toni smiled when she came back in, ” Hey sweetie, just ordered food. Should be here soon.” Toni told her. Knowing she needed distraction from everything that had happened, ” Everyone in the department can’t wait to see you.” Toni told them, they had all helped her on Ria’s case, not to mention the team she was in was like family, ” They are so happy you are ok.” Toni told her, trying to give her something good to focus on.

The last few hours had felt like nothing but a dream for Ria. The night before she had managed to escape her captor but before she had managed to get too far the moonlight had touched her skin and her body had shifted into that of a panther for the first time. The pain was excruciating and she was dreading having to go through that month after month for the rest of her life but right now that was the least of her worries. For too long she had been held captive and she hadn’t known if she would ever get the chance to see her mother again. Throughout Ria’s whole life it had been just the two of them against the world and she was the one person that Ria had wanted to see when she was finally free. Instead it was her father that had showed up at the police station, the father that she had never had the chance to know, and Ria still couldn’t believe that he was here. Now she had found him she knew that he wanted to learn as much about him as she could and they’d spent a few hours together before her mom had arrived. Ria knew that she didn’t want to leave Mystic Falls any time soon, not now that she had finally found the man, but those were details that they were going to have to figure out together. For now Ria knew that she would just settle for having something to eat and to fall asleep with her mom’s arms around her the way she had done so many times when she was little. She had been through so much and Ria knew that she had changed but one thing that hadn’t changed was how much her mom meant to her, if anything it had just made her realise how much that was. They’d made it to a hotel in Mystic Falls and once they were in their room Ria ducked into the bathroom so that she could get out of the clothes she’d had to borrow and have a shower. She had been locked away for a long time so she knew that she had probably looked a right state when she’d found the police officer on the street but she really hadn’t cared about that, all she had cared about was that she was finally free. Changing into the clothes that her mother had brought with her, Ria emerged from the bathroom and immediately felt at ease when her gaze came to rest on her mom. Ria knew how bad the whole ordeal had been for her but she knew that it was probably just as bad for her mom thinking that she was never going to get to see her again. “Great, I’m starving,” Ria admitted, knowing that she hadn’t eaten properly for the last few days. It had been a punishment for trying to escape but it hadn’t been enough to deter her from trying again and this time she had succeeded. “I can’t wait to see them too,” she said as she towel dried her hair before setting it down in a pile with the clothes she’d borrowed so they could be dealt with later and making her way over to her mom. “I’ve missed you,” she breathed as she wrapped her arms around the one person she wanted to take comfort from right now. | Months Toni had waited for that phone call. Months she had spent night and day, trying to find her daughter. Spending hours in the car breaking many speed laws in order to cross the state and reach her daughter in Mystic Falls. Only to get there and find she had gone off with her father. While Toni knew she wasn’t in any danger with Marc, it was the terror of her not being here after months of being missing. Of being held captive, enduring God only knows what.
These thoughts swirled around her head as she tried hard to distract herself from those very thoughts. Ordering her and her daughter dinner, even though eating was the last thing that was on her mind. Once she hung up with them, she found herself breaking down and tears flooded, the tension that had kept her going these past few months was leaving her body.
When she heard the shower turn off, she started to pull herself back together. Wiping her eyes with a tissue and pulled herself together to be strong when her daughter needed her most. Smiling when she came back in the room and announced that she had ordered food, ” Good because your mother probably went overboard.”
Thinking they both needed a little distraction Toni spoke about her team, mentioning how they couldn’t wait to see her. They had helped in the initial kidnapping to try and find her. Though eventually a case does go cold when it doesn’t have any new leads. In the end Toni was the only one combing through her daughters’ case file determined to find her, ” They’re happy you are ok.”
Toni was about to get up and keep herself busy when Ria got up and walked across to her and her arms were around her in seconds. Toni didn’t hesitate when her own instinctively wrapped around her daughter, holding her close. Hearing her voice Toni’s tears started freefalling again, ” Oh god Ria…” Toni breathed, ” You have no idea how much I have missed you.” Missed her was a huge understatement.
Pulling back before her tears completely soaked her daughters now clean hair, ” You don’t have to say anything, whatever you need, sweetie. If you want to stay here in this room forever, done. That would make the overprotective, overbearing mother bear that’s rearing her head very happy, but I know that’s not gonna happen. “ Toni huffed out a teary laugh as she ran her thumb over her daughter’s cheek, tucking some hair from behind her ear. She knew it wasn’t going to happen and she would need to find a way and quickly to even let her daughter go to school.

Ever since the day she was taken Ria had wanted nothing more than to be reunited with her mom. It had always been the two of them against the world and she knew that the work her mom did was dangerous but she had never thought that it would end up catching up with them the way it had done. As it was she had spent months being dragged across the country by someone who had wanted to get back at her mom and even though Ria knew that she could blame her mom for it the truth was that she didn't at all. She knew that her mom had done the right thing by putting the guy away and she knew how important her mom's job was. She had spent enough time around the people her mom worked with to know that they all did their best and she was proud of them all for it. The whole time she had kept trying to escape and now she finally had. It was strange to know that she no longer had to worry about what was going to happen or where she was going to end up next after it had been her norm for so long but now she didn't have to go through that any longer and it was going to take some getting used to. Even just being able to have a shower and change into some of her own clothes was enough to make Ria start feeling more like herself and she felt a smile form on her face as her mom spoke. "You won't hear any arguments from me," Ria assured her. She really was hungry after everything that had happened that day and it had been a long time since she'd had a proper meal so she really couldn't wait. "I can't wait to see them all, I've missed them," she admitted. It had been such a long time since she had last seen the people who had been like family to her throughout her whole life and she was looking forward to seeing all of them again. Seeing her mom again was a relief but more than anything she wanted the comfort of having her mom's arms around her so she couldn't stop herself from wrapping her arms around her mom and hugging her tightly. There was no hesitation as her mom's arms wrapped around her in return and Ria felt tears rolling down her face as she let herself take comfort from the one person she had wanted to see during all those months. "I think I've got a pretty good idea," she sniffed, wiping her tears away even though they were quickly replaced by more. "I was so worried I was never going to see you again," she breathed. "I love you so much mom." That was something she felt like she had never told her mom enough so she knew that she wanted to make up for that now. "It is tempting," she admitted, knowing that she would at least be safe there. That wasn't her though and it never had been. She knew it would take her a while to get through what had happened but at least now she had the chance to. "To be honest I'm not really sure where to begin," she said, rubbing the back of her neck as she tried to find the words. "I should tell you that it turns out I take after dad. Last night when I escaped I shifted for the first time," she explained. She had always known that she would take after one of her parents but she hadn't known which one until then. "I don't know how anyone goes through that every month." The pain of every bone breaking was something that she knew she was never going to forget and she had no idea how she was meant to go through that for the rest of her life. TONI FRASER

| Parenting books that you read when you are pregnant can never prepare you for all the moments. They give advice on certain situations, but never do they cover how to deal with your child returning from being kidnapped. Cover how to deal with them returning to you, definitely not. So, Toni was completely winging it, using some of her psych training to help in some areas and so she knew not to push her at the minute. Not even speak of what happened. Of course, she would have to eventually, but it would be on her terms and in her time.
Using the time, she was in the shower to have her own cry of relief. She would need to be strong for her. Crying in secret she thought to herself was sort of her speciality given her last months with Marc. When she heard her leaving the bathroom Toni quickly pulled herself together and announced that she hoped she was hungry as Toni had certainly gone overboard with her ordering, ” Brilliant.” Toni concluded. Trying to take her mind off of everything and to talk about anything but.
Toni was about to make herself busy when Ria got up from her bed and crossed over to hers and instinctively Toni wrapped her daughter in a hug when it was offered. If Toni could, she would have moved heaven and earth to find her again and never gave up hope and never stopped looking, ” I never stopped looking for you. I love you too, so, so much.” Toni told her holding her tightly. If she could, she never would let her go again.
Pulling back from the hug her hand pushing her daughter’s hair behind her ear and wiping the tears from her cheeks with her thumb. She joked just slightly that if she wanted to stay here for the rest of her life then they could do that and smiled at her when she said that it was tempting, ” I know the feeling.” Toni smiled chuckling. Though they both knew it wasn’t a real option.
Toni listened to her taking her hand as she explained who it was that she took after. She knew it would be a matter of time and remembered having the conversation with her. Telling her what she was and more importantly what she could be. Toni could understand and help her through adjusting to being a kitsune but was a little out of her depth where it came to being a were creature. Toni was about to tell her that it was great until she said she didn’t know how anyone went through that every month, ” I don’t know sweetie. Though all I do know is that once you get past it, there is no feeling that can compare.” Toni told her, words that Marc had once used to describe the turn. Painful but indescribable seeing the world through another creatures’ eyes, ” And he can help you… If that’s what you want.” Toni told her, ” What did you turn into?” She asked, wondering if it was a wolf like her father.

All of this seemed so surreal right now but even though her surroundings were unfamiliar right now given that they were in a motel room, Ria still felt safe because she knew that her mom was in the next room. It was easy to let everything she was feeling come out while she was in the shower but by the time she emerged she felt much more like herself and for that she really was glad. She knew that she could try and blame her mom for what had happened but the truth was that she didn’t, the work her mom did was amazing and Ria was proud of her so she knew that she would never feel that way. She had spent so long trying to escape so that she could find a way back to the woman that had raised her but every time he had caught her and she had started to worry that she was never going to get to see her mom again. Now as Ria made her way back into the bedroom all she felt was relief as her gaze came to rest on her mom and all she wanted was a hug from her mom. It wasn’t long before her mom’s arms were around her and Ria found herself taking comfort from the embrace the way she had done so many times when her mom had comforted her when she was younger. Ria knew that she needed to eat but right now her mom was much more important to her and she nodded as her mom said that she never stopped looking for her. “I know. I knew you would have kept looking for me, that’s what kept me going,” she admitted. “Everywhere we went I tried to leave clues for you in case you were on our trail.” It was small things, things that only her mom would recognise, but she had known that she’d needed to try something other than trying to escape. A small smile touched her lips as her mom brushed her hair behind her ear and wiped her tears away and she knew that her mom meant it when she said that she knew the feeling. It would be tempting to stay right there but Ria knew that it wouldn’t work. She needed to find a way to move on with her life and even though it would take time she knew that she would figure something out. Ria wasn’t sure that she was ready to talk about what had happened too much at the moment considering that she’d already had to go through it all while she was giving her statement and she had told her dad a short version about what had happened but she knew that her mom needed to know that something else had happened as well. Ria’s eyes had changed colour while she was in the shower and her claws had come out as well. How she was going to learn to control it she had no idea but she knew that she had to try. “That’s definitely true, most of the night is a blur but I do remember feeling free for the first time in ages,” she admitted. She knew that she could have ended up hurting someone but thankfully that hadn’t happened although she knew that she needed to find a way to make sure that it didn’t happen next time either. This was her life now and at the moment the thought of shifting every full moon terrified her but she knew that she just had to hope that in time it would get easier. “You mean it?” she asked, surprised that her mom was pretty much giving her the green light to spend time with her dad. “I’d like that, if he doesn’t mind,” she added, knowing that it would probably be much easier having a familiar face there with her. As her mom asked what she turned into, Ria’s hand found the back of her neck and she rubbed it slowly. “I turned into a panther,” she said, hoping that there wasn’t anything wrong with that and her mom wouldn’t think that it was strange. | The urge to stay in this room for the rest of her days was there. She wouldn’t deny it. Though if she let that happen, then the kidnapper would win. She had to find a way to move past it, so Ria could move past it. Even if she wanted to, Toni couldn’t keep her here. She had met her father now… and that was going to change everything. Toni had bought her up to know exactly who her father was. Toni had been honest. It wasn’t that Toni hated her father… she couldn’t ever hate him.
The reasons for their breakup, were ones that Toni felt she wasn’t exactly ready to hear. Legally they were still married, neither party had ever filed for a divorce. She wasn’t exactly going to be running back to him any time soon. Ria then told her something that she wasn’t too surprised to hear. That she had taken after her father. She knew she would one day take after one of them. It could go either way, and Toni would have been happy either way. Obviously, the hope would have been Kitsune, Toni would be more equipped to help her in that case. Though if anyone had to help her, teach her what it meant to be a were creature, she was glad it was her father.
Toni was honest, she didn’t know the feeling of being forced to shift every month. She only knew what Marc had told her, that once you got passed the pain, there was a feeling of freedom that was indescribable, ” Each time will get easier. The shift will be quicker…” Toni told her, just the information she had been told from living with one for years. Toni went on to say that her father could and would help her, Toni didn’t even have to ask, ” Yes, I mean it. I’ve never hated your father, Ria.” Toni told her gently.
Moving her daughter’s hair from her face as she went on to ask what she turned into. She rose her eyebrows a little in surprised when she said it was a panther, ” Not exactly like your father then.” Toni smiled though her mannerisms just then when she went to rub the back of her neck nervously that was all him. She smiled a little at it, ” I’m sure he would love to help you, that I have no doubt.” Toni told her with confidence, ” Not straight away, as I think we need to have a talk first but… yes you can spend all the time you want with your father.”

Ria would be lying if she said that there wasn’t a part of her that wanted to stay hidden away in this room forever. She had always known that there were evil people out there and she had heard about some of the ones that her mom had put away but she had never come across any of them herself. She still didn’t understand how someone could do something like that but she had been taken from her home and her mom and held captive for what felt like a lifetime. Ria knew that she could never go back to who she used to be after something like that but she knew that she was going to need both her parents by her side now. She wasn’t sure exactly what had happened between them but she knew that her mom still cared about her dad and it had been clear to her that her dad still cared about her mom too. She knew better than to get her hopes up about a reconciliation between the two of them since everything that had happened between them had gone down before she was even born and a lot had changed since then but just knowing that they were both here in the same town was enough to make her feel much better. Right now she had no idea how she was going to go through the agony of shifting into a panther every full moon but she knew that she was going to have to find a way. Her dad had said that it would get easier and her mom said the same thing so she knew that she just had to believe them. “That’s what dad said too. He also told me that finding an anchor helps but I’m not sure how to do that,” she admitted. There was a part of her that wanted to tell her mom that her dad had also said that her mom was his anchor but she knew that the last thing she wanted was to make things awkward especially now that she had finally been reunited with the person she loved most in the world. It had always been her and her mom against the world and she hoped that wouldn’t change completely. “I know you haven’t but I thought you’d be eager to get back home,” Ria admitted. She had loved growing up in Quantico but she would be lying if she said that the thought of going back there now to the home she had been taken from and having to relive that awful night didn’t fill her with a sense of dread. She knew that she would put on a brave face for her mom but going through that was the last thing she wanted right now. The way her mom brushed her hair away from her face had always comforted her and now was no exception. Ria could see that her mom was surprised when she said she’d turned into a panther and Ria shook her head as her mom said she wasn’t exactly like her father. “Not exactly, no,” she agreed. “He said he would but I wasn’t sure if you would be okay with it,” Ria admitted. It was difficult not knowing what had happened between her parents but her dad had seemed to genuinely want to be there for her and Ria was so glad that her mom was going to let him. “I get it. I know you’ll let me know when you’ve figured things out,” she nodded as her mom said she needed to have a talk with her dad first. “Thank you mom,” she said sincerely as she wrapped her arms around her in another hug.
