For a long time Elias had felt sure that he would never get the chance to be part of a proper family. He had come close to being adopted when he was younger but that had fallen through and after that he had bounced around from one awful living situation to the next. When he moved to Mystic Falls he hadn’t thought that it would be any better and for a long time it hadn’t been. He had felt sure that he’d just needed to hang in there until he was old enough to age out of the system and get a place of his own but life had had other plans in store for him. Thanks to some trouble his foster parents had ended up getting themselves in he had lost his life and they had lost theirs. That should have been the end of the story but that was the day that he found out that he was actually a phoenix and after a short stay in hospital he had been taken in by Antonio, Ethan and their girls. It was only meant to be a temporary arrangement until somewhere else was found for him but days had turned to weeks and weeks had turned to months and eventually they had done something for him that no one else ever had – they had taken a chance on him and adopted him. Now Elias finally had a family like he had always wanted, he had a place where he felt truly safe for the first time in his life and he had people that he loved. Being at the Salvatore School meant that he was able to be around others like him but his favourite part of the day was always being able to return home and spend time with his family when school was over. That day was a special one as his dads were finally getting married. Elias knew that to some that might seem strange but it didn’t bother him one bit. He had known the two of them before they took him in and whenever he had spent time at the Alvarez home while he was spending time with Adelina and Gabriela he had seen that they were a family already and it didn’t matter that it wasn’t one that some would consider unconventional. They were happy and ever since Elias had been welcomed into their home he had felt that way too. He knew that he was lucky to be a part of the family and to be able to share in this day with them and after checking in on Antonio to see how he was doing, Elias headed in the direction of his parents’ room where he knew that Ethan would probably be getting ready right now. He and Antonio had spent the night in different rooms to keep with tradition and they were getting ready separately but Elias wanted to make sure that Ethan wasn’t too nervous so he knocked on the door and waited for a minute before opening it. “Hey pop, how are you getting on?”ETHAN ALVAREZ

━ i will be the light for you in the dark. ━ Ethan wasn't panicking, he wasn't. He really wasn't, everything was going okay and he was feeling great━ okay yeah, he was definitely panicking a little bit. He was just really nervous because, well, he was going to get married! It's not something that happens every day or even every year. It's once in a life-time kind of thing and Ethan was really worried that he was going to screw it up one way or the other. He wanted today to go by perfectly and even though he didn't take control of the whole planning process (which the wedding planner was immensely glad for) he still wanted today to go well. He messed up his tie about forty times now and it was just because he was too nervous. It's not like he doesn't know how to tie it, no no, he's done it countless times before but today he seemed to have forgotten everything. "Was it above or... below?" He questioned while looking at his reflection in the mirror. He soon captured his bottom lip between pearl whites and thought it over for a moment before he finally seemed to do it right this time around and when he heard a knock on the door, he nearly flinched out of his skin. "Come in!" He answered from where he was and when the door opened, it revealed none other than Elias.
Ethan felt a soft smile appear on his lips when Elias asked how he was getting on. "Hey, kiddo. Uh... I'm getting on pretty well, I think. Except for the fact that I spent like thirty minutes trying to do my tie." Ethan pointed out with a chuckle falling from his lips shortly after. He clenched and unclenched his fist to try and erase the shakiness of his hands but it never went away. "Okay, I'm just gonna be honest with you, kiddo. I'm really nervous. I feel like I've forgotten my vows that I've spent so long putting together and I feel like I'm gonna make a fool out of myself out there and I just, uh... I dunno. It's my first time getting married ━ and hopefully my last ━ and I'm just worried that m'gonna screw it up, y'know?" Ethan breathed out with a small sigh following as he sat down on the edge of his bed, rubbing his sweaty palms against his thighs.
"Sounds kinda silly, I know." Ethan said with a chuckle falling from his lips as he sheepishly scratched the back of his neck. "You look good in your suit by the way, kiddo. Real good." He praised with a gentle smile resting on his lips.

Elias had spent such a long time feeling like he didn’t belong anywhere but it had never been like that with the Alvarez family. Even before he moved in with them they had made him feel like he was always welcome there and after his foster parents died and he found out he was a phoenix the hard way he had thought that he would only be with them for a few days until another placement was found but they had decided to make it permanent. They had done so much for him during the time that he had been with them and they had literally changed his life so he was glad that he had the chance to be there for them on their big day. He had two dads now and two sisters and he loved them all dearly. Diego had been living with them for a while now as well and his grandparents were in town so he knew that it was going to be good for the family to get together and celebrate. Ethan’s parents weren’t going to be there but that definitely didn’t mean that he was going to be on his own, he had all of them and Elias was going to walk with him while Ela and Eli walked with Antonio so he knew that everything would be just fine. Dressing up wasn’t something that Elias did too often, in fact he hadn’t worn a suit since Kelly’s funeral, but he knew that he could make an exception for this. Getting ready took a little while but after checking on Antonio he decided to go and check on Ethan as well and Elias couldn’t help but smile as he said that he’d spent thirty minutes trying to do his tie. “Would you like some help?” he offered as he moved into the room, knowing that it would be easy enough since he’d had practice with the uniform at the Salvatore School. It had taken him a while to get used to how to tie a tie but he’d had to do it so often during the time that he had been there that it was something that came pretty easily to him now. Ethan’s next words were enough to draw a laugh from Elias. “Don’t let dad hear you say that, I hope you’re not thinking about marrying someone else,” he teased, hoping to lighten the mood a little and distract Ethan even if it was only for a minute. “For what it’s worth I don’t think you could do anything to screw this up. The two of you love each other and anyone can see that, even Grandma and Grandpa,” he said, having overheard his dads talking about how they weren’t sure if they were going to show up or not. “All you’re doing is making official something that we already know, you don’t need to be nervous about that.” He’d actually thought that Antonio and Ethan were already married when he first met the two of them and it wouldn’t surprise him if others thought the same. As Ethan said that it sounded silly, Elias shook his head. “It doesn’t sound silly but you’re going to be fine. You’ve got this,” he assured him. “Thanks, so do you,” he admitted as Ethan said he looked good in his suit. “I’m still glad you both went with me to find one,” he added. For Kelly’s funeral he’d had to make do with one from the lost and found that was two sizes too small, at least this time he had one that fit. ETHAN ALVAREZ

Ethan almost immediately nodded his head when the younger offered his help. "Yeah, I would like that a lot. Thanks." He reached up to undo his tie because he still felt like it looked awful. He stood up shortly after so that the younger could easily do his tie without having to bend down. His brows quirked up almost to his hairline when he heard Elias' next words before he let out a chuckle. "I didn't mean it like that, you dork." He said in-between his laughter and it definitely seemed to help him forget about everything that was going on. "I could never think about marrying someone else. Toni is it for me." Ethan said with a soft smile resting on his lips. His eyes relaxed on the younger boy, his reassurance meaning a lot to him. "Thank you, kiddo." He said with a gentle smile on his lips. "You're right. I love him and that's enough. I just need to let my heart do the rest of the work for me."
All you’re doing is making official something that we already know, you don’t need to be nervous about that. It doesn’t sound silly but you’re going to be fine. You’ve got this, Thanks, so do you, I’m still glad you both went with me to find one,
"That's a good way of thinking about it. I like that a lot." Ethan said with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "Okay. I got this. Even if I forget my vows, I can just make them up as I go. I just need to not talk about dragons or phoenixes. Sounds like it's gonna be pretty easy." Ethan nodded his head a few times. He knew there were a few human guests so he should probably keep what they are as a secret. It'd be a lot safer that way. "You're right. I'm just worrying over nothing, it's not like I'm gonna do the impossible out there. We're just making things official so I can finally call him my husband." Ethan said with a soft smile touching his lips shortly after. "Thanks, kiddo." Ethan replied back when the younger returned the compliment. "Me too. It was really fun." Ethan said with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "You looked great in every single one, so it was definitely a little hard to choose, but I'm glad we went with this one. Looks great on you." Ethan said with a quick nod of his head following.

“No problem,” Elias nodded as he stepped into the room and moved over to where his dad was standing. Straightening his tie, Elias tied it for him and made sure that it was just right before taking a step backwards. “That’s better,” he said, offering Ethan a smile as he looked over at him. His next words were enough to make Elias laugh. “Maybe not but it got you to think about something else for a minute,” he teased, knowing that that had been the reason behind his words in the first place. As Ethan spoke again, Elias couldn’t stop a smile from forming on his face. “I know he is, just like you’re it for him. It’s clear every time you look at each other,” he said gently. He really was happy for them that they’d found each other again, he didn’t know everything that they had been through but he knew enough to know that things could have easily worked out differently. Somehow life had brought them back together, though, and for that he was truly grateful. As Ethan spoke again, Elias nodded. “You do. For once you need to stop worrying so much and just enjoy today,” he said, hoping that Ethan would listen. It was a special day for him and Antonio and after everything that had happened Elias wanted them both to enjoy it. “That should be easy,” he grinned as Ethan said that even if he forgot his vows he just needed to remember not to talk about what he and Antonio were. “Even if you did talk about them I don’t think your human friends would believe you anyway,” he added. It was easy to forget that there were people out there who didn’t know the truth about what any of them were because none of it mattered within their home and at the Salvatore School he and the girls were surrounded by other supernatural kids every day. Elias could still remember the way the other kids had looked at him in the past when he’d accidentally activated his abilities without even realising and he knew that it was for the best to keep those two worlds separate but he knew that chances were no damage would be done if Ethan let something slip anyway. “I get the feeling you’ve been waiting a long time to call him that,” Elias said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Ethan. “It was,” he agreed as Ethan said that it was fun when the three of them had gone suit shopping. They’d made a day of it and it was something that Elias knew that he was going to remember for a long time. “I am too. It was definitely the best one and I like that it’s not that different to yours.” They’d gone for the same colour in the end and he liked to think that it was a good thing. “How are you feeling, still nervous?” he asked, hoping that the answer to that was going to be no, or at least not as nervous as he was.
