━ peace is a struggle against our very nature ━ Elias was still getting used to being a reaper. He’d used his abilities to dip into Isa’s dreams, and disappeared from some situations he couldn’t control or explain. Generally, though, it seemed like the best fit for him. He didn’t need to pertain to the dead or grovel at their feet, only persuade them to go with him once they were ready. He didn’t have to get wrapped up in the politics of it all, either━Death didn’t seem to care about whether the souls went up or down, just that they went.
Most of the time, though, they would end up in some wretched circumstance and get themselves killed, and Elias would have to show up and see everything. Frankly, it happened almost every single time in this town, and the reaper was a little suspicious of it all. He’d been sent here to investigate these deaths and find evidence of it being an organized crime of some sort━as if there was one gang behind everything. He was beginning to realize that, while the police in town definitely had some involvement in covering it up, it wasn’t so much ‘corruption’ as it was keeping the secret. Elias was about to get stuck between a rock and a hard place━he could feel it.
The impending doom wasn’t nearly as bad as appearing in this shithole and seeing two bodies on the floor. They were pale, drained completely from two distinct holes on their necks, just barely covered by the patches of dried blood. The bass-y music boomed dully through the threshold, keeping Elias’ eardrums from complete ruin (could that even happen anymore?) and leaving him alone in the room with the two humans, nearly at their last breath.
Well, he thought he’d be the sole reaper called to them.
Hazel eyes turned down to the blonde when she appeared, mouth forming a straight line once he’d sensed she was like him. “Does there really have to be two of us here?” He muttered, hands in the pockets of his long coat, peering back down at the bodies, long desensitized to death━even before becoming what he was.
“I’ll be able to manage this on my own.” Elias spoke gruffly, not keen on having another partner, not after De León and the fact that she barely ever gave him the chance to breathe.

The Blood Den. The fucking Blood Den again. The third time that evening, but this time she wasn't getting some shitty piece of paper rammed in her face to sign so she could play with the vampires. She was here to collect the dead—the thrill-seeking mortals who had entered the bar and now lay dead on the cold hard floor. Blood drained from their body, leaving them stiff with their eyes wide open. Leah hadn't been a reaper long, but she was becoming numb to death. She had one goal. Get the soul, take them upstairs or downstairs, get back to whatever she was doing. That evening she was thinking of going for a drink at Campbell Bar, but kept getting interrupted by the calls of death. The reaper appeared with the familiar four walls, but there was something else standing there with the bodies—another reaper. “Does there really have to be two of us here?”Leah rolled her eyes before looking at him. "Hey, I don't make the rules. If you have a problem, go speak with the big guy" The big guy being Death, of course. The souls were now standing next to their corpses, both of them staring at Lean and her co-worker. The blonde waved her hand, dismissing the male's comment about handling the souls on his own. No one was questioning his competence. She then leaned over towards him, "I'm taking the cute girl on the left" She whispered loudly, though what was she expecting. The pair to exchange numbers? Meet up for a drink in a week? "Right," She began, trying carefully to thread her words together in a neat well-spoken sentence. A sentence which softened the blow that the pair were dead, and these two were here to help them out. "Wish they gave us some kind of script for this shit," Her head tilting slightly over towards the other reaper. "Like, an opening paragraph then underneath 'if the spirit says yes follow this arrow' or 'if the spirit says no follow this arrow' it would make it easier" She sighed softly, her icy blue eyes back on the spirits, "Anyway, me and..." She realized she didn't know the other reaper's name, "This fine-looking man are here to collect your soul and take you to heaven or hell because you're dead" She gestured down towards the corpse. Pleased with herself, she did much better at delivering the news than that poor woman in the woods who sprinted off into the darkness. ELIAS ELLIOTT - this is your home now

━ peace is a struggle against our very nature ━ Elias might’ve been desensitized to death, but it wasn’t different than how he felt about most things. He was cold as an individual, finding no room in his life for emotions or the sort of emotions that made people… warm and fuzzy. He didn’t care about these deaths past their effect on him, and that was likely never to change. Elias preferred it that way; he didn’t have to waste time on any bullshit.
Bullshit like… whether or not the spirits were cute.
He hadn’t needed a partner. He already had enough trouble with De León on a daily basis, and time working in solitude was practically a fucking blessing. It seemed he’d never get any, though.
Elias simply huffed out a breath, his chest falling deeply, hazel gaze sweeping to the side and away from the blonde. He investigated the room instead, noting the dark, sensual lighting and… toys displayed across it. There was a lounge chair━perhaps a mattress would be too obvious, too common━a few feet in front of them, untouched, seeing as the blood splatter hadn’t stretched far enough to reach it. There would be little leftover, anyhow━Elias was sure of it. It wouldn’t make sense to kill a couple of humans to satisfy one’s hunger and then leave behind the commodity━unless it was for sport.
‘...This fine-looking man are here to collect your soul and take you to heaven or hell because you're dead.’
Elias fully tuned back in to hear the compliment, finally letting a lazy smirk bring some semblance of emotion to his face. He looked at the pitiful souls, and then to the reaper once more, surveying her in silence. He’d only given a quiet hum when she’d mentioned the need for a ‘script’, not finding it valuable for himself, though now he understood why she would.
“Maybe you really would benefit from a few drawn-out talking points. A flowchart, like for phone salesmen. If they say this, then you say that.” Though he was merely reiterating what she’d initially said, Elias was only truly keen on hearing his own voice, curt and to the point, it’d seemed like nonsensical blabber when she’d spoken the words.
Immediately, tears began spilling from the spirits. They didn’t reach further than their cheeks, but the wailing was loud and obvious. Elias went rigid, his jaw tightening as he stared at them. “I hate it when they cry.” He grumbled, sharing in this experience with his fellow reaper, despite his irritation at their supposed team-up.
“Stop it.” Elias managed, albeit gruffly. “You need to agree to come with us. We’ll help you move on from here,” He didn’t mention their ability to deny his forcible request, finding it counterproductive to let them roam around on this plane. There were already far too many ghosts and other creatures wandering around Mystic Falls━Elias wanted no part in adding to that plague.

When Leah was offered the job as a reaper, she didn’t realize the job was going to be so constant. It didn’t cross her mind that a human drops dead every second. She was too focused on getting herself out of limbo to ask for job specifications or ask anything, really. She just snatched the opportunity, and here she was. Hitting on ghosts. She was starting to think maybe she should just sit on a stool at the end of the bar in the Blood Den, then she wouldn’t have to go out of her way to collect the souls who fall into the death trap. Her gaze shot sidewards to the fellow reaper as a huff escaped his mouth. She pressed her lips together, letting the unneeded huff slide. “Yes, exactly, because I don’t know about you but I didn’t get any induction pack when starting this shit, and dealing with dead people is… draining” Her blue eyes glided back to the dead pair, “No offence” Her voice holding not a hint of sincerity. Blue eyes scanned the room they were standing in, not fully taking it before. She thought the Blood Den was a bar, but this was something out of a fifty shades of movie. It would have been unnerving to some, but it was exciting to the reaper. She certainly would be back to check out this side of the bar, “Guess you two forgot the safe word” Leah let out a sharp laugh, knowing there was a chance the pair were unwilling participates in whatever happened in the room. Just compelled humans told to go along with whatever. Leah was the one huffing now as the girl started to cry. Maybe she didn’t want this one after all. A deep frown forming on her face as the girl let out a deafening sob. “Fuck sake” She muttered, though loud enough for the wailing spirit to hear. “Hush” The blonde pressed her index finger to her lips as if she was talking to a dog that was barking too loudly. “You need to agree to come with us. We’ll help you move on from here,”Help? Leah wasn’t here to help. She was here to do a job, perhaps even grab a beer afterwards in the blood den, watching other vampires tear mortals apart. She nodded in response to the other reaper’s comments. “Yeah, and you can only come with us if you stop crying… yeah, I’m looking at you” Pointing at the girl whose sobs had reduced to a quiet level. The boy shrugged, glaring at the reapers, “Fuck off, I’m not going anywhere with you two”ELIAS ELLIOTT

━ peace is a struggle against our very nature ━ Elias typically didn’t give a shit about the souls he reaped, or anybody who stood in his path, and this wasn’t all that different. Having a partner to do this with wasn’t necessary, and he would’ve rathered doing this alone, but that didn’t stop the quiet chuckle from escaping him as she spoke. He didn’t bother to reply, hazel eyes ticking from the reaper to the pair of souls, watching the girl begin to take offence. She didn’t start arguing, though, just… crying. Elias felt his stomach churn.
Thankfully, the petite blonde felt the same way. Women were supposed to be more nurturing, and he’d expected the other reaper to start cooing at ‘the cute one’, but instead, she snapped coldly. For a split second, he wondered why on Earth anybody would let a woman be a reaper for that very reason━they’d probably spend the whole time rubbing each other’s backs and gossiping while they drank boxed wine. He cringed at the thought, but another dawned on him━reapers generally weren’t made how Elias was, and this could’ve just been a way for the other reaper to appear less imposing to the souls. A favoured host for the day.
In any case, she didn’t respond with an ounce of warmth.
It didn’t make the girl stop, but she at least quieted down, and Elias seemed to be the only one even slightly amused by the blonde’s ‘safe word’ comment.
“Fuck off, I’m not going anywhere with you two.”
Elias muttered an annoyed expletive under his breath, already feeling too antsy to get out of this shithole. “Listen to me,” He began, taking a small step in to grab the man’s attention, “If you don’t come with us, you’ll be stuck in this place forever, and eventually you’ll go crazy. Souls don’t do well in limbo. So, your best option is to take my hand or hers, and allow us to guide you to the afterlife.” Elias spoke calmly, voice level, making this seem as desirable as possible. “It’s much nicer there. More… peaceful than this place.” Extending a hand, he waited for the man to take it, though he still didn’t seem very convinced by Elias’ speech.

Leah sighed loudly as the soul announced he wasn’t following the reapers anywhere, “I really don’t have time for this” She muttered to herself, growing increasingly annoyed with the pair. Kace was right, her bedsit manner was atrocious. It wasn’t her fault though, her upbringing had carved her into a cold unsympathetic person. Perhaps if her mother showed her more love, Leah would have been having a different conversation with the souls. Maybe even throw a sorry in there. The female spirit had stopped crying completely, as it appeared the situation was dawning on her. The blonde paused, trying to think of a way of phrasing things better. With more empathy and softness, but it was hard work. She hated that she could just force the spirits to follow her instead she had to play this bullshit game where she convinces them like she is doing them a favour. The other reaper stepped up though, explaining that where they were destined to go was better than limbo. She silently disagreed. Limbo was far better than hell, but the male was listening so she wasn’t going to fuck it up but announcing her opinions to the room. Wrong crowd. “He has a point y’know. There’s nothing worst than watching the world go on without you. Eventually, people will stop putting flowers on your grave and you’ll be nothing but a distant memory” She stated, partly speaking from experience. It was hard watching people live their life whilst she was dead, but still didn’t push her to accept her fate in hell. Either way, she made note of the other reaper’s speech something which she would recycle later as it appeared to have worked. “Okay… I’ll come” The female spoke, her voice weak and shaky. “Happy days. Come on cutie let’s go” She extended her hand out to the other female who took hold of it. Leah glanced over to the other reaper, “Last one back buys first round” She ran her tongue over her top lip slowly before winking at her co-worker. Less than a second later Leah and the soul disappeared into thin air. Lucky for the soul she had been a good girl who ate her greens. Heaven was her resting place. Dropping a soul off in heaven was always weird, leaving Leah feeling like she was in a place she didn’t belong. She liked to get in and out as quickly as possible, especially when there was a free drink riding on it. Without even bidding farewell to the female she teleported back to the Blood Den. Back to that interesting room. ELIAS ELLIOTT

━ peace is a struggle against our very nature ━ Thankfully, the other reaper backed him up instead of giving another one of those snotty remarks. It seemed to work, too━well, at least for the girl, it did. The man eventually nodded and gave a gruff sound of submission, and Elias let out a quiet sigh. Perhaps two reapers could make a better team, especially when there was more than one soul to convince, but Elias wouldn’t admit that to himself let alone out loud. And he certainly wouldn’t suggest it to Death. If anything, he might throw in a comment about their Reaper Radio needing improvements. Respectfully, of course. He wasn’t an imbecile.
Of course she took the easy one and then bet on their return. Elias smirked, amused by her irritating childishness more than anything else. At least she wasn’t wholly incompetent.
“Take my hand now.” Elias said to the man, nodding at the one still outstretched. Finally, he grabbed it and, without a second to lose, Elias brought him to the gates of Heaven. Without so much as a word goodbye, the reaper vanished.
Reappearing in the club, he came almost at the same time as the other Reaper, though Elias would declare that he’d won. There wasn’t a doubt in his mind about it━and how couldn’t he win? He was the best at everything he did━especially his job.
“I believe the bar where you can buy me a drink is right outside.” Elias grinned, slipping an arm around her waist and tugging her body tight against his own. In a flash, they were standing behind the bar, their sudden appearance forced a few stares their way━stares that he promptly ignored.
With that same smug look on his face, Elias separated from her, lingering for a moment before turning to the bar. “Bourbon, neat.” He spoke plainly but clearly, not bothering with pleasantries. “And for the lady?” Elias mused, grinning at her. He had every intention of paying for her drinks in the end (like any man should, in Elias’ opinion), but it was still fun to try rubbing his win in her face.
“After this, I think you’ll learn to never bet against me. Especially when it comes to work.”

The pair reappeared almost a second apart, though she wasn’t sure whose feet hit the ground first. Of course she would argue her own, but the other reaper was ready to take his prize. A free drink, waiting for him outside the door. Her lips parted, about to argue but he took her by the waist transporting them both to the bar in a flash. A trace of disappointment when he broke away from her, wanting to hold onto that frame for a little longer. She moved to the spot alongside him at the bar, eyes scanning what they had on offer, as though she didn't spend every waking moment in the bar, whether it be for pleasure or business. Perhaps this time both? She glanced over at her co-worker for a split second. Death really did hand pick the hot ones to be reapers, herself included. The bartender’s attention was on Leah, awaiting her order. “Gin and tonic with a squeeze of lime” She angled her body towards the other reaper, “I let you win by the way... ” A casual shrug, with a grin, “You were quite assertive back there… it was hot” She was always drawn to the men who were sure of themselves, Remzi being a prime example. The man knew he was attractive and flaunted it in every way possible. The arrogance that oozed from him was appealing, for her at least. Some would turn their nose up at men like that. Soon as the employee returned with their drinks, Leah’s delicate fingers wrapped around the glass in an instant as the male mentioned something about never betting against him when it came to work, “So what you’re saying is… you’re all work no play?” She teased, bringing the glass to her lips for a large mouthful. “Sounds like you need someone to help you unwind” She turned her body to face his, placing her free hand on his chest tugging at the fabric which lay beneath her grip, “I have plenty of ways I like to de-stress…” The blonde laughly softly, removing her hand from his chest, but still peering up at those green eyes. A mischievous look etched on her face as she did so. ELIAS ELLIOTT

━ peace is a struggle against our very nature ━ “You let me win?” Elias teased, still smirking at the woman, amused by her. He knew he’d won, but he wasn’t about to start arguing with her like a petulant child, demanding she change her mental conclusion of the race. Women didn’t find that attractive, and Elias was sure of himself, anyway; he didn’t need the word of another reaper to convince him that he was at the top. “You have to be assertive with them. Otherwise, they don’t learn.” He hummed, voice steady while he loomed over her, catching her eye to ensure she understood his double entendre. “Some beings need a firm hand.” His grin turned into the cup while he lifted it, sipping from the glass that was quickly placed in front of him.
‘Sounds like you need someone to help you unwind.’
Business and pleasure weren’t supposed to mix. But it wouldn’t be the first time Elias had dipped his pen in the company ink, just the first time with Death’s company. The job of a reaper was often a lonesome one… or so it had been until now.
There was a smug look on his face anyway, turning back to the woman, standing straight while she touched his chest. “What can I say? When I commit to a job, I make sure to complete it.” He paused with his own glass hovering near his lips, and then added, “However many times it needs to be done. Over, and over, and over…” Elias took a small sip before continuing, hazel eyes trained on those brilliant blue ones. Cold and piercing, completely unlike De Leon’s.
He allowed her to tug him forward, back curling slightly, just so he could tower over her further. A shadow was cast over her face as he blocked the light above, his glass settling back on the bar, still not raising either hand to touch her.
‘I have plenty of ways I like to de-stress…’
“Then I’m sure you wouldn’t mind taking the time to show me.” He tipped his chin up slightly, still smirking. “Since you’re so sure of your talents.” Elias was, too, but he liked this back-and-forth better. Finally, the hand lingering at his side came up, fingers curling around her hip, taking a firm handful. He tugged her forward with it, against him, palm running to rest on her backside, keeping their bodies taut together.
“... But don’t let your drink go to waste,” Elias hummed, craning his head back an inch or two to sip from his own. “Delayed gratification is half the fun.” No matter what it was, but especially with de-stressing. Whether or not she agreed with that fact didn’t matter; Elias was confident in his ability to change her mind.

She winged a brow as the other reaper mocked her. Disbelief in his tone as she announced she’d let him win, though he wasn’t biting to her remarks. Not how Remzi would bite anyway. “Maybe you could teach me sometime… y’know how to be assertive” Although she needed no lessons in that area. Leah knew how to be forceful with her words, often digging her heels so deep into the ground her feet would disappear. Her assertiveness often split over into stubbornness. Refusing to accept anyone else’s view but her own. She peered up at him as he continued to speak. A firm hand, something she wouldn’t have minded from him. She returned to her drink, taking a small sip before offering to help him unwind. She set the drink back down, as she watched the male. No one liked their men to be stressed. Bringing their work home with them. Admittedly she could see how a person could carry around the job as a reaper with them. Dealing with dead people all day every day was depressing, especially the ones who had met an unexpected end, but as soon as she was done with a soul she’d mentally wash it off before proceeding to the next one. Leah saw souls as nothing but work. Refusing to get wrapped up in their drama as to why or how they’d died, but this man was someone who was devoted to the job in hand. Refusing to fail at a task he had been set. “I bet you do…” She teased, in a soft whisper. His chest beneath her palm, temptation bubbling away to rip his shirt away. For someone who seems so uptight, he had a sense of humour. She was warming to him, as he was happy to go along with her flirting. His hands still weren’t on her body though. Disappointing to say the least. Perhaps he was the one playing her now. “Oh my talents are… breathtaking… I’d love to show you” Eventually his hand was on her body. His touch sent a chill down her spine, as he pulled her closer. The smallest gap remained between their bodies as Leah continued to look up at her co-worker. Blue eyes drifted down at her drink at the mention of it. She reached over, bringing the glass to her lips to take a sip. “I don’t tend to delay gratification… especially when I can have something more than once… I don’t like to leave an urge lingering” She placed the glass back down before her hands snaked around his neck, resting on his nape. ━ peace is a struggle against our very nature ━ Breathtaking? He didn’t doubt it, especially for regular men. Though he’d never been the emotional type, Elias was still a man, even after Death took him. This body had urges and desires, and pretty little blondes were certainly one of them. A woman claiming she’d take his breath away? It sounded like a challenge, and there wasn’t anything Elias liked more. Except maybe praise, but that always came at the end.
“I’d love to see them,” He mused, hand tightening on her just a fraction, squeezing that curve to solidify their proximity. “After we finish our drinks.” Delayed gratification in another way, but still fun nonetheless.
Hazel eyes went to her lips as she drank, watching the liquor slip past and down her throat, not allowing a drop to go to waste. He was captured in it, or let her believe as much, catching the way her throat convulsed and jumped when she swallowed. He didn’t know which he wanted on her more━his teeth or his hands.
Thick, muscular arms slid around the smaller reaper once she was on him, both glasses left to rest safely on the countertop. One hand stayed where it was on her backside, but the other captured her slender waist, slid up the centre of her back and into her hair, like a platinum glove twisted around his fingers.
“It’s more fun when you leave it lingering.” Elias spoke quietly, voice a gruff rumble in the pit of his throat. “The slow build-up…” He began, craning her neck to the side with his hold on her hair, lips finding the spot where her pulse thumped below her skin. If he were a vampire, this would be the ultimate tease, but for a reaper, it was tantalizing in a different way. He didn’t touch her, though, just allowed his breath to linger there. “... the denial…” When he smirked, his lips nearly brushed her, so close and yet not close enough. Elias’ breath traced upwards gently to the hinge of her jaw. “... And, finally, the release.”
Eventually allowing it, Elias kissed and sucked softly at the patch of skin there, fingers on the other side securely holding her jaw in place. He wondered how long it would take one of them to fold after that, willing to bet money that by the time he opened his eyes and drew back, she would have teleported them somewhere private. Women didn’t usually last long when they tried to deny themselves of him.

It was disappointing to see there was no sign of Remzi in the bar that evening. Keen for him to see her flirting with another. Obviously she was attracted to her co-worker but having Remzi witness the whole situation would have been pleasing. Acting up for both males so she could be the center of attention. Having strangers eyes fixated on her was a different kind of pleasure, convinced they were jealous of her or even wanted to be her. She even relished in the bad attention. Leah rolled her eyes, in a childlike manner. A part of her was annoyed he wasn’t just giving in to his needs. Whisking her off to that room, though the dead bodies lying in there would be a buzzkill, to say the least. “Fine if you insist” She was happy to abandon their drinks and sneak off the male. The alcohol was absolutely no use to her. Basically drinking a glass of water. Most would have knocked back their drink in an instant if Leah hinted they could continue their night somewhere more private. This one wasn’t bending though, which would make it all the more pleasing in the end. Now she was the one being teased in some kind of role reversal. It was her job to keep the men wanting more. To have them captivated and absorbed by her. A smirk twitched on her lips as the male spoke about the slow build-up, the denial, the release. She had never been the type of person to wait for something. Too impatient and hated holding off. She quietly exhaled as the male’s lips met her skin, tilting her head willingly, but no sharp teeth scraping against her, unlike Remzi. Just a gentle kiss leaving behind the desire for her to want more. With her hand on the back of his neck, she pulled him closer, as she slid her fingers through his hair. Her free hand glided across his lower back. Ignoring his suggestion to finish their drinks, she teleported them both into one of the other rooms. The same one Hannya guided her into a few days prior. “I guess you’re gonna have to show me what you mean by delayed gratification” She moved her hands to the front of his body, pressing both palms firmly into his chest and pushed him back onto the free sofa behind him.
