til now. Johanna's road has been thousand times longer than the Silk Road she one travelled with her parents. After their untimely deaths in Cambaluc (Mongol occupied Beijing), Johanna rode out from the city, travelling across Europe to find her grandfather and return with him to Cambaluc to re-establish the Bai trading empire. With him dead Johanna found a new life in England - a husband in Kaegan, a job in the King's kitchens, and a violent turning into a vampire when the Queen realised she knew of her affair. Eventually leaving behind her husband and sons as she stopped aging, Johanna travelled the world. She marked it out in the maps she drew, garnering respect as a cartographer before eventually there were no corners of the world left to discover. At a loose end Johanna became a teacher of geography instead, backtracking along her path until she found herself in Mystic Falls.
friends. As a human Johanna allowed herself such things. Her closest friend and confident growing up in Cambaluc was the boy she would come to see as her brother, in England her husband Kaegan and his best friend, Magnus wormed their way into her affections. After the Queen turned her and she was forced to leave the world she had come to know behind Johanna became more closed off. She will still allow people to grow so close to her but knowing she will inevitably move on Johanna does not seek out lasting entanglements. There is always too far to travel for that.
enemies. If you're a former Queen of England or a venomous wannabe trader, perhaps, but Johanna does not cross people lightly. She's spent the better part of seven centuries trying to avoid making enemies of people.
family. Johanna's lineage reflects the true melting pot that was Cambaluc under the Great Khan's rule. A four times great grandfather in Genghis Khan, European traders on her father's side and a former Templar Knight for a grandfather. Johanna spent the first 13 years of her life travelling with her trader parents - Jullian and Orianna. Before she turned 14 her mother passed, just a short time later, having remarried, Jullian passed too. If not for her uncles and the brother, Ananda, her parents took in after his own were lost to a raid on the caravan he rode out in, Johanna would have been truly alone then. With Ananda at her side she wasn't. After travelling to England Johanna married a blacksmith, Kaegan, and bore him three sons.
lovers. Before she forced herself to leave him behind Johanna was deeply in love and married to Kaegan. They had decades of happy marriage together before Johanna left to save her husband and sons from harm. In the centuries after Johanna took lovers at times but no relationship ever came close to being as deep as the one she had with Kaegan. Johanna may take you into her bed but it will take something truly special to make her take you into her heart.
