The night before had been a heavy one for Lawrence. The evening just went from ordinary to chaotic in a few hours, resulting in him getting home at 5am, and Teddy was coming over to his apartment that morning for breakfast. Thankfully Teddy was the one supplying breakfast, as Lawrence was not the most incredible cook. He could cook the basics, such as pasta, but the point in learning was when his body did not need food to survive. As a human, he was taught how to shoot, fish and hunt, whereas his sister was taught how to cook. It was the norm back then. Lawrence was at work the previous night when he was approached by one of the demon dancers. The pair went off into one of the private rooms for a considerable amount of time, keeping each other entertained. Once Lawrence finished work, he stayed behind at the Blood Den for a few drinks with the regulars and staff. A few drinks turned into a lot of drinks, and now Lawrence was struggled even to open his eyes. He did, however, survive having sex with a demon, which was a bonus as he was not sure how the situation was going to transpire. She could have been one of those animals who eat their partner after mating. The sound of his alarm rang through his bedroom, pulling Lawrence from his deep slumber. He felt like he had just put his head down on his pillow. It was a good job he could not die of sleep deprivation. He let out a groan as he turned his alarm off, forcing himself to open his eyes. His eyelids felt like sandpaper against his eyeballs, and his body felt like a dead weight. Thank god he did not suffer from hangovers as a vampire; otherwise, this would be a savage one. Lawrence picked his phone off the bedside table, “Door’s unlocked,” he texted Teddy. For someone who was paranoid and distrusting those around him, he always forgot to lock his door when he arrived home from a heavy night. A loud sigh escaped him as he dragged himself out of bed to shower. Hopefully, it would help to wake him up. As he showered, his brain was still trying to process how his night went from serving drinks to having sex with a demon in the space of 15 minutes. From now, he would have to face her at work as well, but there was no chance she was the clingy type, which was a relief to Lawrence. It was just sex, nothing more. He never considered himself to be the promiscuous type, bringing home a different woman every weekend, but the demon dangling temptation in front of him. He had needs that wanted to be met, and she was offering it to him on a plate. As it was not socially acceptable to drink whiskey at 10am, Lawrence made himself a black coffee. Another thing that helped with the cravings. He heard his front door open, "Hello," He called out from the kitchen as he sipped on his coffee. "Erm, Teddy, how much do you know about demons?" The vampire was hoping Teddy knew a bit more than demons than he did and could enlighten him on the situation. Whilst he had built extensive knowledge on vampires, warlocks and witches over the years, that was as much as he knew. He was in the dark about all other species. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ Having a routine that seemed to be that of a regular, western dad (by all accounts) was strange for Teddy. As a kid, he never would’ve imagined himself here, let alone leaving the coven at all. But he’d ventured far away from the commune, eventually finding himself a permanent place to live, a school for Julian to learn to control his magic, a stable job and at least one close friend. It was all he needed at this point; he was content, ready to continue living as well as he possibly could.
After dropping Julian off at the Salvatore School (and promising to give Lawrence a big hug from him), Teddy headed back home. He packaged up the supplies he needed for breakfast, and then took the elevator upstairs, staring blankly at the doors.
Once the elevator dinged to announce his arrival, Teddy checked the other dinging coming from the device in his pocket. He’d only started using phones a few years ago because they were necessary for jobs, but now he was quite happy for the fast communication. If there was a problem at school, he’d be notified immediately. If Lawrence needed help or wanted to hang out, then Teddy wouldn’t have to wait around to be beckoned. He wasn’t oblivious to using them anymore (thankfully), and easily pulled up the text from Lawrence.
Without bothering to reply, as he’d see him in a moment, Teddy stuck his phone back in his pocket and walked to Lawrence’s door. As promised, it was unlocked, and he was quickly stepping inside, closing it behind him and calling out a, “Hey!” Before moving to the kitchen.
‘Erm, Teddy, how much do you know about demons?’
“Good morning to you, too,” Teddy spoke sarcastically, a teasing grin on his lips. Lifting the bag and setting it on the counter freed his hands, allowing him to move in and wrap both arms around Lawrence, gently clapping him on the back. He was a little more giving with affection now, considering how easy it would’ve been to lose it altogether. “That’s from Julian.” He chuckled as he pulled away, beginning to unload the eggs, flour, vanilla, and everything else he’d packaged up for them.
“Demons?” Teddy asked finally, watching each container he pulled out as he thought back to the coven, and his lessons. “Should I be worried? Is that why you reek of alcohol and look terrible? Are you going to tell me a demon possessed you for the night? Made you go heavy on the liquor?” He teased, eyes ticking sideways to study Lawrence’s face. His smile faltered, a concerned expression washing over his features as he looked away again.
“I know what we were taught about them growing up. They’re normally humans that have gone to hell, were tortured for thousands of years, and then released. They travel in spirit form and possess bodies to exist in the mortal world. Those bodies are called ‘hosts’,” While he was happy to help Lawrence with pretty much anything, subjects like this made him uneasy. He thought of Julian, and how the hell he would explain other species to him when he was old enough to understand.

The word demon was enough to bring a cold shiver to most. If myth and folklore were anything to go by, they were the servants of the devil, yet Lawrence found himself between the sheets with one. He couldn't even blame the alcohol. His parents would be turning into their graves right now at his actions the previous night. Still, it made a good story. One he was keen to share with Teddy. His blue eyes glanced towards the door as he heard it clicked open. "Good morning to you, too," Lawrence rolled his eyes and laughed, "Good morning Teddy" He embraced his friend, a grin forming on his face when Teddy told him the hug was Julian. "Tell him I said thank you for the hug" He let go of Teddy. Generally speaking, Lawrence wasn't a fan of children. Having none himself, he couldn't relate to them and often found them irritating, but he had grown to like Julian. Watching him grow over the past few years, he was a sweet and caring boy, though sometimes mischievous when he hurls things across the room at Lawrence. Also, when he and Julian are purposely winding Teddy up. Lawrence helped Teddy unload bits from his bag, setting everything down on the side, but paused when Teddy told him he reeked of alcohol and looked terrible. He placed the berries down and laughed, "Firstly, I did shower this morning, and yeah, I accept I am not looking my best" He ran his hair through his wet hair again, trying to force it to dry in place. "No need to worry, though," He added as his friend's face changed from a smile to a hint of unease. That concerned father looks one would give to their child when they tell you their grades are slipping. Right now, Lawrence's morals had declined. Once a sweet innocent boy from rural Candian, now he was a vampire having sex with demons. As Teddy went on to explain whatever knowledge he had of the demon, Lawrence listened intently as he pulled a berry from one of the containers and ate it. He was relieved to hear demons were once humans, as he pictured them to be red ugly beings. "So," He started as he pushed another few berries into his mouth. "I may have had sex with one last night at work" He started to smirk at Teddy, which soon broke into a hearty laugh. It felt weird saying it out loud. Having sex with someone at work, whose name he didn't even know, just wasn't what he was like. He preferred to take someone out for a drink first before bedding them. The more he thought about it, the more he considered the idea she could have used some weird demon trick on him, "And now I'm worried I have some kind of black mark on my soul" Until the siphoner mentioned it, Lawrence hadn't considered the idea she could have possessed him. He felt fine, though, apart from the whiskey that was probably seeping through his skin from the previous evening. "I don't think she possessed me… shit am I gonna have to go to a church for one of those exorcisms?" He joked with a light laugh. His mom told him vampires couldn't set foot in a church without burning alive, which is a superstition that still followed him. Lawrence avoided churches, at all costs, even cemeteries. Lawrence reached for another handful of berries, soon realizing he was eating his way through their toppings for the pancakes, but he was starving. He threw them back into his mouth. "The more I think about it, the more I'm like, why the fuck did I start working at the Blood Den?" He resisted the urge to eat more food, "She was begging me to bite her as well. Wanted me to..." He lifted his hands to air quote, "Tear up her body".TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ “Well, obviously it didn’t help.” Teddy teased about Lawrence’s shower, even going as far as to pinch his nose and twist up his features in mock disgust. Teddy was sure he was practically immune to smells after changing Julian’s diapers━Lawrence didn’t smell anywhere near as bad as one of those.
His joke quickly turned negative, though, as it often did when Teddy was with Lawrence. They were friends, of course, and Teddy loved him like a brother. Maybe it was years of almost solely interacting with a toddler that had the father treating his only friend like a son, showing his love by expressing constant concern.
And that could’ve been due to their incredibly juxtaposing decisions. Teddy was forced to grow up incredibly quickly. Even before Julian, they had only a short time to be just children in the coven, and Teddy suddenly worried about forcing Julian to grow up too fast.
“You… what?” Teddy leaned forward slightly, eyes going wide as his brows shot up, practically lifting to his hairline. He didn’t think Lawrence immature, but things like this proved how different they were━despite their similar upbringing. Lawrence laughed while Teddy sat through the pure astonishment, trying to think of how his friend had even gotten into a situation like that.
‘And now I'm worried I have some kind of black mark on my soul.’
While it might not’ve been the way Teddy would have phrased it, it was something he considered. Demons were creatures of pure evil, born straight from Hell━utterly different than what he or Lawrence were familiar with. Teddy stayed quiet instead of commenting, thinking his words would only make Lawrence worry more. He waited, listening to the vampire complete his story, though Teddy only smiled for half a second at Lawrence’s exorcism joke. Would he? Teddy didn’t know━he’d never been in a Church before. There were spells for this, ones for bringing demons and forcing them away, though Teddy was unfamiliar with both. If he had to, though, he’d sift through every grimoire to find something to help Lawrence.
Teddy was so caught up in his friend’s problem that he hadn’t realized Lawrence was munching through their toppings for breakfast. “Hey,” He scolded after Lawrence’s next handful, making it his last. Teddy reached out, lightly smacking the vampire’s hand before taking the container straight from him. “We’ll have none left for breakfast if you eat them all.” He grumbled, turning back to the counter to start on the rest of the ingredients. “I need a bowl.” Teddy puffed, trying to sort through all of the things Lawrence had told him.
“Well… I don’t have an answer for your career choices, but it doesn’t matter how you feel. A demon could be possessing you, and you could have absolutely no idea.” He sighed, “Have you… seen her at work? Is she acting the same as before? If so, then she probably hasn’t moved bodies, which means you’re fine.” Teddy started measuring his ingredients, pausing with a full measuring cup to look into Lawrence’s eyes again. “I’m going to assume you didn’t bite her.” Eyes narrowed somewhat to survey Lawrence and his reaction. He would’ve been disappointed, upset, but Teddy wouldn’t abandon Lawrence━even if he was at his lowest. He’d need help to get back on his feet, and that was the job of a best friend. The siphoner only hoped this was a one-night thing, and not a declining mental state. “It makes sense that she would ask, though, especially if she knows you’ve taken an oath to not feed from humans. Like I said, demons come from hell. They want you to indulge in sinful acts, and breaking a promise you’ve made would be something they’d… like, I suppose. They can also jump bodies when too much harm has come to their host, so don’t…” Teddy frowned deeply, maintaining that eye contact, as if he could read a lie on Lawrence’s face, or that his tone wouldn’t be serious enough to get Teddy’s point across.
“Please promise me you’re going to be careful.”

Lawrence's lips parted slightly as he was about to defend himself, but Teddy was probably right. He was in the shower for all of two seconds, just there in an attempt to wake himself up and make himself feel more alive. He just stood in the shower for a few seconds, allowing the freezing water to sting his skin while he reconsidered his life choices. Soon as the words left his mouth, Lawrence knew Teddy would react exactly how he did—shocked, with that fatherly concerned look he wore when the vampire acted without thought. Nonetheless, Lawrence was a sensible person, probably not as sensible as his best friend, but he often tried to consider the consequences of his actions, but there were times he was reckless. Such as the previous night. He got too wrapped up in the situation, and now here he was explaining what happened to Teddy while having a scent of whiskey surrounding his sleep-deprived body, and Teddy wasn't the type of person to give high fives to his friends after they get laid. "Sorry, I'm starving" He quickly grabbed more berries seconds before Teddy batted his hand away. "A bowl" Lawrence repeated quietly, as he opened one of his lower cupboards, pulling a bowl from inside, "Here" He placed it down on the side. Career choice? Lawrence wasn't about to explain to Teddy this wasn't a career choice, but instead his only option. Nowhere else would hire a 104 year old vampire, without asking serious questions. He tried to compel himself to get a job in Campbell Bar, but that failed miserably. "Yeah, I've seen her at work a few times, but never really spoke to her until last night" Even then the pair didn't do a lot of speaking. The demon was not a woman of very many words, "I'm fine… I'm fine" He nodded his head confidentially as he leaned on the counter side, though the whole demon possessing someone else's body didn't sit right with him. "The girl she's possessing, is she just in there? Like, is she conscious?" He nibbled at his lower lip as the siphoner looked at him, "I'm going to assume you didn't bite her." Lawrence sighed heavily, pushing himself upright. He frowned a little, "Of course not. I promised the school I wouldn't feed on humans" The temptation was there, though. He was close a few times with the demon as well, each time reminding himself he was stronger than the blood lust. It would explain why he was shovelling handfuls of berries in his mouth. Lawrence didn't even want to know what Teddy meant by too much harm, and resisted the urge to make a crude joke in front of his prudent friend. "She did mention something about envy and lust, but I didn't ask too many questions. She was a bit... " Forceful? Dominating? "Intimidating" Though the vampire was more concerned about what she could do with those demon powers of hers. He then noticed Teddy's eyes were fixated on him, with that fatherly look of concern again. "Don't what? Bite her, or go back for seconds?" He inquired with a chuckle. Lawrence would never admit it to Teddy, but he would love to do both. Go back for seconds, and sink his teeth into the delicate flesh on her soft neck. Perhaps at the same time. He quickly grabbed his coffee, and took a large mouthful, pushing the intrusive thoughts to the back of his mind. It was like putting a chocolate cake in front of a child and telling them not to eat it. Or even more accurately, dangling a carcass in front of a lion then pulling it away, because that is was he was. An animal. He wasn't human. "Teddy, I'll be careful" He insisted, though his tone faltered, "Please don't give me the look a father gives his child when they've drawn all over the wall in crayon." TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ Teddy was more than concerned about Lawrence. He loved him like a friend, like a brother, but now it was feeling more like a father-son bond. Lawrence was definitely decades older than him, with more life experience under his belt, and yet Teddy couldn’t help but feel more mature at odd moments. Indulging didn’t make one immature, it was a matter of preference, and Teddy began to assume that said decades with little responsibilities made one a lot more prone to go for what they wanted. Teddy was still bound by nature, and Julian, and he’d never wanted this sort of thing━random hookups with strange women who’d literally come from the depths of Hell. Teddy wanted a family, to settle down with his wife and live out their days together. Obviously, though, he wasn’t getting that. At least not with Octavia.
And he wanted it for Lawrence because it seemed like the perfect life to Teddy. Sure, Lawrence couldn’t produce kids anymore, but it didn’t stop him from having them━getting possessed and eaten alive by a demon, though? That probably would.
‘The girl she's possessing, is she just in there? Like, is she conscious?’
“Ah, it depends,” Teddy sighed quietly, beginning to mix the pre-measured dry ingredients in the bowl with the milk and eggs, pulling everything from his seemingly never-ending bag of supplies. “She could’ve killed her host, and might just be using the body. Or,” Brown eyes flicked to Lawrence’s blues. “She’s in there. Could be conscious, could be knocked out. I don’t… really know the ins-and-outs of demons.” Teddy paused, a sly grin pulling at the edges of his lips as he trained his eyes back on the bowl. “Not like you do.” He added, letting out a quiet snicker.
“Lust and envy?” Teddy repeated, brows pulling together. He wasn’t familiar with the Bible, or any other religions in general, but he assumed these came from Christianity. It made the most sense. “Of course she was intimidating.” He sighed, “She… probably has more abilities than you could ever imagine. You could’ve died, Lawrence.” He didn’t want to be a downer all the time, so often choosing to avoid what others would consider fun or ‘impulsive’, but it was difficult to imagine the terrible situations Lawrence could so easily get himself in. His friend wasn’t a baby━or even a human━yet Teddy worried as if those were both true.
‘Don't what? Bite her, or go back for seconds?’
“Both.” Teddy mumbled, scraping at the edges of the bowl to ensure all the flour would drop into the mix, incorporating everything evenly.
It seemed Lawrence was catching onto Teddy’s behaviour, though, because he was calling out the dad-like authority that Teddy was pulling. He hadn’t meant to, it was only the overabundance of love and care he felt for his best friend. He lifted his chin to finally meet Lawrence’s gaze again, unintentionally giving him that same look━upset, disappointed.
One hand raised, rubbing lightly at his forehead━as if that would wash away the expression. He pulled in a slow breath, and then released it. “I’m sorry. That’s not… what I meant to do. It’s just that you’re worried now, all terrified you’ve done something bad when…” Teddy didn’t know what he was trying to say. Being a dad was hard enough, but laying on that fatherly advice to someone so much older than you felt unnatural. “It’s natural, I get it. You didn’t do anything wrong. I know I already told you to be careful, and I know you’re a vampire, but neither of us really know what she can do.” Finally, his facial expression took a more jovial edge, a small smile pulling at his lips again.
“Won’t this make working with her awkward? I thought it was an unspoken rule to not… fuck where you work.” Using such a strong word made him feel a little strange, but Teddy was chuckling nonetheless, desperately trying to room of that thick tension he’d created.

There was always going to be a lapse in morals for a vampire. Lawrence had given into temptation, pushed aside that little voice in his head that told him not to do something, but that voice had been yelling when the demon asked him to bite her, telling him he would regret it in the morning. Now he was concerned about two things. One, he had hooked up with a woman who rose from the depths of hell, and two, Teddy was disappointed in him but knew his friend didn't think any less of him. Since forming a friendship with Teddy, the vampire had shared some of his deepest secrets with the siphoner, even the ones that painted him in the worst light possible, yet Teddy stood by him no matter what, and Lawrence did the same for him. The good, the bad and the ugly. This was firmly in the bad; it hadn't escalated to ugly. Yet. Plus, he needed a voice of reasoning in his life at times. Teddy was usually that voice. The pair balanced each other out well, Teddy being sensible and Lawrence pushing Teddy out of his comfort zone. An uneasy feeling washed over Lawrence as Teddy explained the girl could still be in there, potentially conscious. He was hoping the girl was dead, and the dancer was just using her body as a puppet. The vampire let out a hearty laugh at Teddy's joke, "Sounds like I had a threesome" He grinned, needing a joke to lighten the mood. It had occurred to him that the demon could have killed him, but not in the words in which teddy expressed. "She… probably has more abilities than you could ever imagine." Could ever imagine? He didn't even want to think about it. But, it happened in the Blood den, a place where Lawrence weirdly felt safe. There were probably books in the school Lawrence could go and read, but ignorance was bliss at the moment. The less he knew, the better. Blue eyes lifted from the cup he was holding, meeting Teddy's face. "Stop it. I know I fucked up" He sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair. It was the 'I'm not angry at you, I'm disappointed' expression again, as though Lawrence had let his best friend down by sleeping with a demon. Thankfully Teddy's features softened a little as he apologized, "I know she could have killed me, but I struggled to say no. She would have reeled you in all the same" If the tables were turned, Lawrence would be playing the concerned parent right now, but it was different. Teddy could easily be killed, yet often it felt like Lawrence was the vulnerable one. The one who needed wrapping up in cotton wool. There was a thought floating around in the vampire's head that she had used some wicked demon manipulated to get him to sleep with her, or perhaps he was just weak when it came to half-dressed dancers who look like they want to devour you whole. The unspoken rule not to sleep with your coworkers was probably one that didn't apply to a demon and a vampire. "I don't know her that well, but I have a feeling she'll try and makes things awkward," Which wouldn't bode well for Lawrence, as he didn't cope well with awkward situations, often making them worse by saying something stupid, "Or try and make me jealous maybe? With the whole envy thing, but I'm not really a jealous person… it'll be fun watching her try," Lawrence laughed, "I'm not gonna go back for round two either. It was a brief moment of weakness, never to be repeated again" As fun as it was, Lawrence wasn't looking it a regular thing. Getting tangled up with a demon was not smart. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ Teddy already started to reel back, didn’t want to upset Lawrence too much, but the ‘stop it’ had him frowning and focusing back on his bowl, mixing the dry and wet ingredients until he’d worked all the lumps out of it, then searching for a pan shortly after. He didn’t want to interrupt Lawrence’s thought process (if he could even manage one) or have him hunting for it like he had the bowl. It wasn’t as if Teddy was a stranger to Lawrence’s home, either, so he found it with ease. Placing the pan on the element, he started up the heat, forking a bit of butter on the surface to ensure the pancakes wouldn’t stick to it.
‘I know she could have killed me, but I struggled to say no. She would have reeled you in all the same.’
Teddy cocked his chin towards Lawrence, quirking a brow that fully questioned his statement. He hadn’t meant to look at him like that, didn’t want to be rude, but the expression was forming before he could stop it. Part of him wanted to meet this famous demon who could so easily lure his vampire friend into bed, but the rest of Teddy knew it wasn’t worth the trouble or risk
Looking away quickly, he found a ladle in one of the drawers, scooping up some of the mixture. Teddy tilted it into the pan, forming two medium-sized pancakes before dropping the ladle back into the bowl. Brown eyes ticked up, and back to Lawrence’s much lighter, bluer ones.
‘I don't know her that well, but I have a feeling she'll try and makes things awkward,’
He listened, nodding slowly as Lawrence continued. “The whole… envy-jealousy thing sounds plausible. Did she try to make you jealous before you two…?” He trailed off, his question hanging there, as obvious as if he’d said it. Teddy wasn’t a prude, but he didn’t have much experience with things like this━he’d never engaged in ‘locker room chats’ or discussed what sex was like after he’d had it. That wasn’t what they were doing, of course, but it still felt as though it was edging that line. “Try and make them awkward how, though? Just through jealousy? Surely, an old creature like that would have a better game plan than acting like a child who wants attention.” As if he’d have any idea.
Teddy scrunched his nose at the thought, puffing out a heavy breath. This weighed on him, whether or not it seemed important to Lawrence. He wondered what his friend was doing during those long shifts, and now he’d probably spend most nights worrying. “You said she was intimidating, that you struggled to say no. How can you promise it won’t happen again?” Teddy ignored the pancakes for a moment, giving Lawrence a more serious expression this time, his lips pressed into a firm line. He’d just apologized for being so hard on him, started to reel back on the ‘upset father’ act, but it was rushing in again all the same. He cared about Lawrence━what would Teddy do without him? Where would he be without him?
“I really hate that stupid club you work at.” The siphoner shook his head, gaze dropping to the pan and away from Lawrence, trying to hide the tears stinging his eyes. It was stupid, he knew that━not worth crying over. But Lawrence was his best friend, and the only person he’d gotten close to after Octavia. He was so scared about being a danger to those he held dear to his heart, and didn’t want to risk it on anybody━he already worried about Julian enough. Lawrence was supposed to be sturdy, a vampire for fuck’s sake, and yet he’d encountered one of the few things that could rip him from Teddy in the blink of an eye. So Teddy was scared━terrified━and rightly so.

The vampire watched as Teddy moved around his kitchen, gathering whatever he needed whilst he felt like he was trying to explain his actions to the siphoner. Actions which he didn’t think he would need to justify to anyone, especially not his best friend. The situation reminded him of when his father catapulted into a long lecture at Lawrence after he was turned, telling him he shouldn’t have stayed out so long, and shouldn’t have driven so fast. As though it was his fault. But as Teddy appeared to ease up, so did Lawrence. He understood he did something thoughtless, but he failed to see the magnitude of his actions. He pondered for a moment, as his mind recalled the events of the previous evening, “No, not really. She came over to me, we spoke for a bit and then, you know” Spoke was a loose term. The pair barely exchanged many words. “Maybe hook up with another guy in front of me? Or maybe go after a girl I like? I don’t really know”. Realistically, he had no idea what the demon was going to do. Hopefully, she’d leave him alone for the foreseeable, but there was a strong chance she wouldn’t. Looking to feed on Lawrence’s lust, if anything. The siphoner let out a huff, causing Lawrence to draw away from the counter and stand upright, his body growing stiff as though he was preparing himself for a fight. He titled his head slightly, waiting for Teddy to add another layer of lecturing which he didn’t want to hear. “You said she was intimidating, that you struggled to say no. How can you promise it won’t happen again?”
His lips parted, though no words came out of his mouth. His friend had a point. How could he be sure it wouldn't happen again? “Jesus Murphy… I don’t know… I’ll just say no next time. It was just a bit of fun” He’d like to think he had the willpower to resist her advances in the future, and he didn’t exactly put up much resistance the night before. In fact, he was happy to go along with the demon. It was fun, and now Teddy was tarnishing it with his seriousness. He started to think maybe he shouldn’t have told Teddy in the first place, but he was his best friend. Someone he felt like he could share everything with. Perhaps he was easily agitated due to his lack of sleep and the burning hunger that lay in the pit of his stomach. His hands clamped around the side of the worktop, though he quickly loosened his grip and pushed himself upright. “I really hate that stupid club you work at.” Teddy's reaction was difficult to process. It had been so long since someone actually cared about what Lawrence did, rather than leaving him to his own devices. It was both comforting yet frustrating. It had been decades since someone had called him out on his behavior. For years he did as he pleased; without concern, he was upsetting someone he cared about. “It's not my fault everyone in this stupid town is on vervain making it impossible to compel myself a normal job... I can't just walk into a job like humans can, and the Blood Den was the only place that would hire me. How else am I supposed to pay rent?” He exhaled harshly, registering the increased volume in his voice, “And it's not even that bad!” Lawrence exclaimed, though his sentence held little truth. The bar attracted the most savage vampires, and some evenings were a bloodbath. He had tried his best to detach himself from it, but slowly it was drawing him in. At first, he would pity the humans who were dragged into the bar and forced to sign a piece of paper, but now it didn’t faze him as much. It was becoming normal. He was easily slipping back into that life— the life of a vampire. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ All Teddy had been searching for this morning was a nice breakfast with his best friend and not have to worry about being a parent while doing it. Julian was safe at school, not causing a ruckus at Lawrence’s apartment or having to be distracted just so the two men could get a moment of peace. But this wasn’t at all what he’d wanted nor expected, and Teddy almost wished Julian was here━so that Lawrence had to tone it down and not reveal all the details. It only would’ve delayed the inevitable, and Teddy couldn’t imagine what it would be like to deal with Lawrence whispering this stuff in his ear while Julian fought for his father’s attention.
Teddy didn’t want to cry over something so simple, either. He wasn’t full-out bawling, but the tears were there, making his vision go all fuzzy while he set the pan on the burner. He started it up and focused on spooning the batter onto the hot plate━once it was heated and buttered, of course.
‘And it's not even that bad!’
He went rigid when Lawrence practically shouted, his tone having more bite than anything else. Teddy didn’t flinch or cry harder like he was sure Julian would’ve if he’d been there, but it didn’t leave the siphoner feeling better about this in any way. He wasn’t crying because of the argument, still wasn’t, though a slow, shaky breath in and out was definitely needed to begin to calm down.
He understood that it was harder for Lawrence in all the ways the vampire listed━he couldn’t just pull out his ID and apply for a job in the same way Teddy could, and was still bound by some laws of society. It must’ve been difficult to live like that, what with one foot in and the other out, forced to follow some rules but not all. Teddy felt for Lawrence, and though his disappointment only came from a place of love, he could sympathize with the frustration━and Teddy wasn’t making it any better by pointing out the flaws.
“Okay,” Teddy sighed again after a long moment of silence. He grabbed a plate to load the finished pancakes onto, setting it next to the pan on the counter and flipping the two currently in it. “Alright. I’m sorry. I know I’ll never understand what it’s like, I only worry about you, though it isn’t fair how I reacted.” He was trying to be civil now━to meet Lawrence halfway on this. It would be horrible for Lawrence to die because of some evil being in that club, but it would be even worse if something happened and they were separated because of an argument like this. If Lawrence hated him because Teddy was too smothering when it came to the way he showed care.
Finally, he drew those tear-filled dark eyes up to Lawrence’s brighter, blue ones, and gave him a forced smile━trying desperately to erase the animosity between them. “How about we just focus on breakfast now, hm? Talk about something else.” What, Teddy had no clue, but anything would do at that point. He raised a free hand to quickly rub his eyes on his sleeve, trying to be subtle and quick about it. The two pancakes in the pan went straight to the plate, and he was ladelling out new scoops of batter in no time.
“I can try to make them in shapes for you━if you want.” Teddy teased, glancing back up with a real smile this time. “Julian loves that mouse with the suspenders. What’s his name?” He furrowed his brow, trying to scrape through his memory while beginning to form Micky Mouse ears on both pancakes. “He’s always wanted me to try that pancake art people do━I assume he learned about it in school. I think he assumes I’m a better cook than I actually am.” Or Julian looked up to Teddy as if he were a superhero, and while he’d come to learn that it was normal for children to feel that way, Teddy felt like anything but. Like he’d continue letting down those around him━pancake talk was just a desperate attempt to save his friendship with Lawrence, and Teddy prayed it worked. He wouldn’t be as easily swayed as Julian, that was for sure.

It was easy to forget Teddy had lived a different life to Lawrence. A life with structure and morals. A human life, bound by the laws and rules set by society. Lawrence however didn’t. His life was just an endless sequence of events. There were no rules for him. The pair shared some similarities though. Both abandoned by their covens and hated their parents, but after they were considered outcasts their lives took different paths. Teddy was left with a young child to raise on his own, whereas Lawrence had no one to care about. There was nothing there to keep him grounded in the years thereafter. Of course, the vampire had noticed his best friend was becoming upset at the discussion, but even that wasn’t enough to force him to back down. In his mind he’d done nothing wrong. In the grand scheme of things, this was minor compared to the other shit he had done. The dead bodies he’d left scattered along the west coast, the families he’d ripped apart with his antics. Yet it was sleeping with a demon that pushed Teddy’s buttons. Lawrence took a step back from the counter, edging towards the living room as Teddy spoke. Offering an olive branch that the vampire was struggling to take. Was it so bad giving into temptation? Allowing himself to be drawn in by a being driven by sin. He knew his friend had nothing to be sorry for. He was just speaking from a place of love, but it got lost in translation due to Lawrence’s defensive behaviour. Always quick to justify his actions. A trait he’d only developed after turning. As a human, he mirrored someone similar to Teddy. A person who could accept they’d done something wrong, but over time he grew tired of people berating him, but at times it was a way of avoiding accepting he’d done something wrong. Part of him was angry the demon had inadvertently caused a rift between the friends. Lawrence knew it wasn’t worth arguing about, not that the pair ever did. Teddy was quick to retreat from any sign of confrontation, which is why Lawrence hated arguing with his best friend. It always felt one-sided. Lawrence becoming angry about something and Teddy apologizing in an attempt to bring the conflict to an end. It was probably another reason they worked as friends. It was hard to fight with someone who was unwilling to bite. But as Teddy glanced up at him, his eyes glittering with tears, Lawrence felt a pang of guilt. “You have nothing to be sorry about… I’m sorry for shouting” He spoke, his voice now returning to a normal level and softer, though dismissing Teddy’s suggestion to talk about something else. He needed a few minutes to calm down. A slight smile formed on his lips as the siphoner went on about shapes of pancakes and Julian. He was grateful for the words to fill the silence and a change of subject. He nodded in response to Teddy’s question, “Micky Mouse pancakes work well for me” He responded as he was mentally trying to shake the argument from his mind. He had no energy to drag it out. “You’re a fairly good cook I’d say, but then again my standards are low as I am a terrible cook eh” He added with a chuckle as he moved back towards the counter. Pancakes were never a struggle though. Simple recipe, difficult to screw up. “I’ll start setting the table” He started to rummage through his cupboards, pulling out a few plates before heading off towards the table. TEDDY AARONSON
