Lawrence’s eyes focused on the time displayed on his phone. It was 11:48am. He had passed out on his sofa the previous night and as he sat up he immediately felt a sharp pain in his arm. Shit, it wasn’t a nightmare. He had actually been bitten by a werewolf. The vampire looked down at his arm and saw prominent bite marks on his arm. "Shit" He sighed. As he tried to stand up off the sofa Lawrence immediately fell to the floor. This was actually happening. He was going to die. As he lay on his floor he tried to piece together the night before. He was driving back from the school, and his car had broken down. He got out and tried to fix the problem when a wolf leaped on him, sinking its teeth in his arm. Lawrence managed to fight the wolf off but abandoned his car to run the rest of the way home. By the time he’d arrived home, he was already feeling dizzy. Lawrence remembered sitting on his sofa for an hour or so trying to formulate a plan, but there was nothing he could do. So he admitted defeat, drank two bottles of whiskey, and fell asleep. Using a chair nearly he managed to pull himself up. He had two choices, either stake himself or rip his own heart out. He slowly stumbled around his kitchen looking for something wooden to ram into his chest. A wooden spoon would work, right? “Teddy...” Lawrence muttered as he was leaning on his sink. Why didn’t he think of this sooner? Surely Teddy could siphon the venom out. Lawrence managed to pull himself together to make his way to Teddy’s flat, praying his friend was home. Lawrence used the elevator to get to the tenth floor, the stairs would have wiped him out by this point. “God damn” Why were there so many apartments? He found himself outside of 108, banging loudly on the door. “Teddy! It’s Lawrence. I need your help!” He shouted as he continued to bang furiously on the door. An old woman opened the door looking very confused. “Hello. I’m here to see Teddy… are you his grandmother?... Look never mind” He didn't have time to chat with Teddy's grandmother. Lawrence went to step inside the apartment but was immediately knocked back. He hadn’t been invited in. Had he signed the lease over? “You have the wrong apartment... and I think you should seek some medical attention. You’re looking a bit grey and your arm is bleeding! Are you okay?” Lawrence dismissed the old lady and tried to enter the apartment again, “You have the wrong apartment! Go away before I call 911” She pushed him away and slammed the door. The vampire stumbled backward and hit the floor. The anger took over and wanted nothing more than to kill that old woman. His eyes blue eyes darken and the veins below his eyes became apparent. ━ i started to dream again ━ Before enrolling his son, Teddy only had Julian babysat when he was at work, and even then it was normally in his apartment. But after meeting Sabine and Siggy, he was more than okay with the babysitter taking Julian over to their house. It gave him an excuse to see Sabine again, anyway━if she’d be there when he picked up his kid.
Thankfully, though, Terra could pick up Julian straight from the Salvatore School after his kindergarten class, and look after him until later on. So, Teddy took full advantage of it, and used his day off work to do nothing more than sleep. A needed rest after all the shit that was brought on by living in Mystic Falls. There were good parts to it, though. Sabine, the newest addition, the steady job, and the school where Julian was learning to control his magic, which took a heavy burden off of Teddy’s shoulders. And his best friend, Lawrence, though not really a new friendship any longer, was definitely up there on the ‘good list’, too. Teddy had been reluctant to trust anybody after he’d split from his coven, but Lawrence was there in the worst of times, with a seemingly similar past, and ready to help Teddy whenever he needed. He hadn’t expected them to grow so close, but it was definitely nice to have somebody to talk to other than his four-year-old. After the attack, Teddy had learnt that Lawrence was also in the school, which made the siphoner a lot more comfortable━obviously, he was working on himself, trying not to go wild at the sight of blood. Which meant that, most importantly, he was safe to have around Julian.
A shared drink on his birthday, a few movie nights here and there, and they’d become something of an inseparable pair, whether or not Teddy was going to admit it. He hadn’t expected to grow roots in Mystic Falls, knowing he could have to pick up and leave at the drop of a hat, but it felt nice to belong somewhere again. To have friends that cared about his wellbeing, and a real home somewhere.
Teddy’s rest was interrupted by a loud knocking coming from the apartment next door. It sounded like it was happening right beside him, her front entrance sharing a wall with his bedroom. Normally, she was quiet━a little, old lady who’d greeted Teddy warmly, and even brought over food some nights. Claiming she’d made too much, but Teddy knew she was just saving his embarrassment. He’d gone to her when he first moved in, warning her about Julian and stating that he was doing this all alone, so he was sorry if the crying woke her up. He tried to keep their noise to a minimum, but she was sweet about it anyways. Now, though, there was banging and yelling coming from her apartment, and Teddy wouldn’t have been able to sleep even if he wasn’t concerned about his neighbour. ‘Hello. I’m here to see Teddy… are you his grandmother? ... Look never mind.’
“You have the wrong apartment... and I think you should seek some medical attention. You’re looking a bit grey and your arm is bleeding! Are you okay?”
Looking for him? Was it somebody else from his mother’s coven, having gotten the wrong address and now tormenting this old lady? The voices were muffled through the plaster on the walls, but he was sure he’d heard his name.
Teddy groaned as he pulled himself out of bed, beginning to rush when he heard the door slam. In nothing more than pyjama pants and a t-shirt, he moved quickly out into the hall, finding… Lawrence?
Teddy’s brows knotted together as he rushed over, kneeling beside Lawrence. He looked worse than how the woman had described━not healing for some reason, the gash in his arm deep and bleeding as if it was still fresh. “What the hell happened?” He asked quickly, “Can you move? Here, let me get you up,” Teddy offered, not giving enough time for a protest before he slipped in, wrapping an arm under Lawrence’s and doing his best to slowly get them both to their feet.
He wasn’t scared about getting close despite the veins on Lawrence’s face, trusting that he’d never hurt Teddy. And maybe that was stupid of him, but those roots were there, clasped around the two men and binding them together, hopefully for life━even if Lawrence's was apparently going to get cut short.

Throughout the years Lawrence had considered all the way he could potentially die and mentally listed them in an order of preference. At the top, was being decapitated. It was quick and painless. At the bottom was being bit by a werewolf. He had watched a few vampires die from wolf bites, and it was never pretty. Losing your mind whilst you slowly die. He would rather have ended his own life than wait for the hallucinations and voices. That is what terrified him the most, and he knew even if he flipped the humanity switch it wouldn't change the outcome. It would just take away the fear of dying. He was one step away from doing that when his mind came up with a solution. Teddy. He was certain he had heard that siphoners can draw the venom out, but he had never seen it happen, but then again siphoners were rare. It could have been a myth, but at that moment Lawrence was desperate. Since that night, where he helped Teddy to kill various members of his coven the pair grew close. The vampire was hesitant to trust a warlock, but Teddy proved he was one of the good guys, so eventually Lawrence let him into his life, and Teddy did the same for him. The pair had grown closer ever since, and if there was anyone who was going to help Lawrence right now it was his best friend Teddy, and even if his idea to siphoner the venom out did work at least he would with his best friend with him when he took his last breath, and hopefully it would make the whole dying process less scary if he wasn't doing it alone. If only Teddy's grandmother would let him in the apartment. He didn't care that she was a sweet innocent old lady, she was stopping him from potentially being saved. As he sat lay on the floor, slightly propped up against the wall, he started to think of ways to kill the woman. If she was dead, he wouldn't need an invitation to enter the apartment, but then Teddy would never help him if Lawrence butchered his grandmother. Or, he could just crawl back home and die on the floor of his apartment. Either way, it wasn't looking good for the vampire. Lawrence turned slightly as he heard another door open, and he squinted slightly as someone was heading towards him. Was that Teddy? His vision was a little blurry, but it looked like him. He recognized the bouncing curls. He pushed himself up slightly as Teddy approached him. “Can you move? Here, let me get you up,” Lawrence accepted Teddy's offer and drove himself to his feet with the help of his friend. He took a deep breath as the veins beneath his eyes faded away. "I need your help... wait a minute" Lawrence's frowned a little, looking at Teddy, but it wasn't Teddy anymore. It was his father. He pushed the siphoner away, albeit it was a weak push. "Why the fuck are you helping me?!" Lawrence exclaimed, almost yelling at Teddy, as the veins crept back under his eyes again, "This is your fault. You and mom! You fucking did this to me... This is your fault" He held out his bitten arm, glancing down at it for a second. For a moment, he thought it had healed. He blinked hard. The bite was still there. He lowered his arm and looked back up. His father was gone, and Teddy was stood in front of him. The veins disappearing quickly. "Oh shit... oh shit" Lawrence was panicking now, as he ran his fingers through his hair, "It's happening. The hallucinations have started... fuck... I'm so sorry" He took a deep breath, trying to calm down. He spun around and sped off into Teddy's apartment in a blur. "Julian's not here is he?" He called out once inside. The kid didn't need to see this. He was in Teddy's kitchen, rummaging through the drawers. "Here we go!" He pulled a large sharp knife out the drawer, beads of sweat collecting on his forehead, " I need to carve this bite out, it's gonna make me crazy... like actually crazy" He placed his arm on Teddy's counter top, placing the knife at the top of the cut. This was going to test his pain threshold. "Can you grab me some towels?" It was clear Lawrence wasn't thinking straight, but he was getting increasingly paranoid. He thought if he could cut the bite out, the hallucinations would stop. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ The trust Teddy had built for Lawrence wasn’t something he gave out easily or quickly. He put babysitters through the wringer, and while that was expected from somebody with a child, it was a whole different ballgame for Teddy. Friends weren’t something he’d had in years━if his wife or siblings could even be considered friends. Maybe he hadn’t experienced true friendship before Lawrence.
It was why he came near, even when Lawrence had that murderous look on his face. The dark eyes, completely inhuman, veins spreading on his cheeks. He was sure Lawrence wouldn’t hurt him, but as soon as Teddy had gotten them to their feet, the vampire was shoving at him. It wasn’t hard, but it was enough to make Teddy stumble back━mostly out of insult than anything else. A frown pulled at his lips, those vampiric features returning. Had this been a mistake? Was Lawrence going to tear him up where he stood?
‘Why the fuck are you helping me?! This is your fault. You and mom! You fucking did this to me... This is your fault.’
“What?” Teddy sputtered out, raising his brows. Obviously, he wasn’t getting mad at Teddy; that became obvious even before the vampire registered him standing there again. Brown eyes dropped to the wound on Lawrence’s pale flesh, trying to piece this together in his mind, though the other man was moving too fast to give Teddy a moment to process it. Bouncing around from apologies to using inhuman speed to disappear into Teddy’s apartment.
Had somebody poisoned him? It looked like a sharp bite━a werewolf? Teddy knew they were natural enemies by species alone, but could this hurt him so intensely? In their coven, the elders and teachers didn’t focus much on the other beings in the world. The kids were told of their existence, taught a few spells to use against them, and that was it━nobody was supposed to leave the commune. It wasn’t expected that they’d ever venture out, and Teddy had to learn a hell of a lot after he’d made it out on his own. While they’d done what they thought was necessary as far as teaching went, he wasn’t told anything about being a siphoner━other than the negative aspects. They wished he could’ve been normal, so Teddy was treated as though ignoring his condition would cure him. He knew the extent of it━all he needed to know━that he could take lives with this ability whether or not he wanted to.
Teddy raced after Lawrence, following him into the kitchen. “No, he’s at school. Lawrence, what the fuck━” He watched Lawrence pull out a knife from the drawer, setting himself up as if he was about to━holy shit. A wave of adrenaline shot through him, absolutely terrified as his body started to move without much thought to it. His first instinct was to save his best friend, and that involved not cutting off a limb.
“Lawrence!” Teddy shouted, “Stop it!” One hand wrapped around the vampire’s arm, just above the cut, and the other went to his wrist, trying to pry away the hand holding the knife. “I’m not getting towels for you to chop off your arm! Tell me what’s going on.” He did his best to use his human strength to get the knife as far as possible from Lawrence’s skin, hoping that maybe his friend would be weak enough to not immediately overpower him.
Teddy used his body weight to shove against Lawrence’s side, attempting to wrestle the knife from him. He didn’t know how to help him, but Teddy would do everything in his power to at least try.

From the moment he realized it wasn't his father he had just turned on, but Teddy, Lawrence felt immediate guilt. Dread washed over him, worrying his friend wasn't safe with him in his current state of mind. He would never forgive himself for hurting his best friend, and never wanted to do anything to break the trust he had built with Teddy. As he stood in Teddy's kitchen he had almost forgotten why he had come there in the first place, he was so concerned with the hallucinations and insanity creeping upon him. Either way, it was clear his friend wasn't going to help carve the bite out of his arm, which almost annoyed Lawrence. Teddy held Lawrence's arm out, stopping him from using the knife. He frowned slightly, "I'm not chopping my arm off. I'm cutting the bite out, and I'll heal" He thought like it was obvious, but it wasn't. Lawrence just looked like a mad man with a knife. He sighed as he gave into Teddy's actions, allowing him to push the knife away. He had no energy to fight back at this point. Realizing he was holding a knife, with an unstable mind, he quickly threw the knife down on the countertop. Lawrence moved away from Teddy, sighing again as he ran his fingers through his hair. "Shit, sorry" He muttered, "Right, you're Teddy, you're my best friend, you're not my father, my father is hopefully dead, and I don't want to kill you" He was mainly reciting that to himself, to remind himself where he was and what was real. "So" Lawrence began, as he leaned against the countertop, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead, "Last night I was driving home and my car broke down, so I got out to see what the problem was... not that I would have a clue I know nothing about cars, but anyway a werewolf came from nowhere and bit me" He held up his arm, "Exhibit A" He put his arm back down, "I came home, panicked, drank a lot of whiskey, got wrecked, fell asleep, woke up then realized you can help me because you're a siphoner" He paused, his blue eyes falling on his friend, his voice regaining a level of seriousness, "And if it doesn't work, well, I would rather spend my final moments with you than anyone else" His heart sunk a little as it dawned on him that his plan may not even work, and he would certainly die in a few hours. He was terrified of dying. Of no longer existing and the world just continuing on without him. "I don't wanna die Teddy" He said softly, his voice almost breaking. He had joked about it in the past, but this was real now. When faced with death previously Lawrence almost didn't care if he lived or died, but he felt like his life was worth something now and things were looking up for him. He was finally becoming a better version of himself, "There's so much shit I still haven't done... I've never even been on a plane!" He took a deep breath, keeping his emotions together, "I'm going to hell... and I'm not saying I don't deserve it, but fuck" In hindsight, he should have been a better person for the past century, but he couldn't change his past. It was as if his whole life was flashing before his eyes, and he was consumed with guilt and regret. Lawrence was hoping Teddy had done something like this before, or at least his Coven had told him about what he could do with his abilities, so he could assure Lawrence everything was going to be okay. ━ i started to dream again ━ Trying to pry the knife from Lawrence was more psychological than physical. He knew he couldn’t get it away from the vampire━slightly weakened or not━so he hoped he could appeal to his friend’s emotional side and get him to stop all on his own. Thankfully, it wasn’t an impossible task.
Teddy broke away from him, moving back a few steps and to the other side of the kitchen. He felt his spine nudge up against the edge of the counter, but then finally, finally, Lawrence put down the knife. He was going to carve it out? Teddy’s face twisted up in confusion. If it was the venom he was worried about, wouldn’t it have already spread through his bloodstream? Teddy wasn’t sure how this worked at all, and he couldn’t take Lawrence’s word for it━obviously, he was completely out of his mind.
‘Right, you're Teddy, you're my best friend, you're not my father, my father is hopefully dead, and I don't want to kill you.’
“Glad to hear it.” Teddy spoke somewhat sarcastically, giving Lawrence an incredulous look. He was still struggling to understand what was going on, and it seemed that his friend was, too. Having to convince yourself of your sanity usually wasn’t a good sign, and here was Teddy, willingly staying in a small space with him.
He focused on Lawrence’s story intently, hanging off every word and attempting to pull the puzzle pieces together in his mind. If the vampire could give up enough information, maybe Teddy could figure this out for him. The only issue was that Teddy had to fill in the blanks for himself━so it was a werewolf bite. Then there was definitely the issue of venom, maybe only potentially harmful to vampires. Why did being a siphoner matter? Was there… magic in the venom? It would make sense━they were all creatures born of magic in some way, shape or form (at least, that was what he was told) and a werewolf’s bite was just as transformational as a vampire’s. Plus, Teddy had pulled magic straight from Lawrence.
The puzzle pieces were together, but Teddy didn’t know if he was forcing them into place or if they were going in willingly.
‘And if it doesn't work, well, I would rather spend my final moments with you than anyone else.’
Teddy smiled sadly. He hadn’t planned on getting close to anybody in Mystic Falls, but he was happy his friendship with Lawrence blossomed as well as it had after the night they’d met. He was forever grateful for Lawrence’s help, but there was another piece to it━a deeper bond that came from something other than just being thankful.
“Hey, you’re not going to die, okay?” Teddy breathed slowly, mustering up the courage to move forward again. He laid a hand on Lawrence’s unaffected shoulder, trying to comfort him with a gentle squeeze. Brown eyes found his friend’s blue ones, a similar move to that of the night they’d met, when they were standing just a few feet from where they were now, bodies all around them. He knew he shouldn’t have been promising Lawrence’s life━in fact, Teddy was more likely to take it than give it, but he’d try anyway. He had to. There was no room for hesitation━Lawrence could die either way.
“You… want me to siphon this out? And you know that’ll work?” He had to make sure. Maybe it didn’t make a difference, but Teddy needed to know for his own sake. Another slow breath and his lips were tightening at the edges. “You don’t deserve it, Lawrence. You’re a good man. You helped me and you didn’t even know who I was. I’m not going to let you die━we’re going to figure this out.” Teddy threw out the idea of not promising something he might not be able to see through. He was going to save Lawrence, his best friend, if it was the last thing he did.

Lawrence's blue eyes fell on Teddy as he made his sarcastic comment, but he smiled weakly. He was just mentally reminding himself he was okay, and there was no need to rip his best friend apart. There was a sense of hunger in his stomach, but the fear of dying was suppressing it slowly. "If I do anything rash, just stab me and take me out," Hoping he wouldn't reach that point, but he wanted Teddy to know it was okay if he did use the knife, or any weapon, against him. Luckily he was starting to calm down, though, as he explained what happened to Teddy, observing his friend's expression. The siphoner looked a little confusing by his suggestion. Perhaps he was clutching at straws, but that's all he had left at this point. Teddy was his last hope. "Hey, you're not going to die, okay?" Teddy couldn't promise that, but it was comforting to hear the words. Lawrence nodded slowly but not fully agreeing. Lawrence glanced down at the bite as his friend asked if it would work. Now he realized carving the bite out was a ridiculous idea. The veins around the wound had started to blacken as the venom spread through his body. He expected it to hurt as the toxin coursed through his veins, but he couldn't feel it. "No, but it makes sense, right? Please tell me I'm not just talking nonsense? Their venom is magic" He exhaled slowly, and wiped another few beads of sweat from his forehead. He was started to sweat even more now, "I've never seen it happen though because you siphoners are so rare" He looked at Teddy, "Good job, I'm best friends with one eh" He grinned. Lawrence was so grateful for his friendship with Teddy, and couldn't imagine his life without him now. A smile crept across Lawrence's face at Teddy's kind words. It meant a lot to him that his friend thought he was a good man, as there were days he got dragged down by his past decisions. Overthinking and regretting things. "Thank you," He responded hoarsely. Now wasn't the time to get emotional over words being shared, though. He was deteriorating, which was quickly confirmed when he looked down his hand to see he was starting to desiccate from his fingertips gradually. A sigh escaped him, and the vampire closed his eyes. His subconsciousness began to drift, his body gave out hitting Teddy's tiled floor with a thub. Lawrence's mind wandered off to his childhood. He was happily playing in the lake as a child, not from his family home with his sister and their friends. The air was humid, the sun was blistering and the water was warm. It was his perfect summer's day. Lawrence felt safe as he paddled away in the water, laughing with the others. This would be his heaven if he could create it. "Lawrence" There was a whisper from someone. The voice came from someone out of the water, deep in the woods. There was a bright light shining through the thick of the trees, almost blinding Lawrence as he looked at it. He slowly swam towards the brightness, until he could feel the ground beneath his feet. He gingerly rose from the water, but his sister grabbed him by the wrist yanking him back. Lawrence looked back at his sibling. "Not yet, just stay with us a little longer yeah?" She smiled, before swimming off back towards their friends. The group beckoned him. Lawrence glanced back towards where the voice had come from. Towards the light. The voice was death calling Lawrence to follow. If these were his final moments, it was peaceful. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ ‘If I do anything rash, just stab me and take me out.’
Teddy frowned deeply. He didn’t want to hear Lawrence say things like that; he couldn’t stand the thought of losing the only person he’d grown close to in Mystic Falls. Was this what he would always be destined for, to lose everybody he regarded as family? What about Julian━his life had been threatened more than once, though it was more likely that Teddy’s mom would want to raise Julian rather than murder her grandson. Lawrence was fading fast, though, and Teddy couldn’t stand the thought of losing him.
He wanted confirmation━that siphoning the bite was a sure thing, even if it might’ve meant so little with Lawrence’s fragile mental state. Teddy had to hear him say it to verify that they actually had a chance with this. Even if Lawerence could die either way, he didn’t want to risk making it worse. Siphoning tended to be painful for other witches, though maybe violent, hallucinating vampires were just as bad.
‘No, but it makes sense, right? Please tell me I'm not just talking nonsense? Their venom is magic.’
Teddy nodded; it did make sense. They were all magical somewhere down the line; even the fact that he’d pulled some from Lawrence meant something. He smiled when Lawrence gave them the title of ‘best friends’, though there was a sad edge to it. Maybe they wouldn’t be for much longer. Still, even if Lawrence died, that wouldn’t change all that they’d been through together, or how Teddy cared about him. They’d still be best friends, just like Octavia was still his wife, only separated by the veil of the Other Side.
“Yeah,” Teddy mumbled, giving Lawrence’s shoulder a gentle squeeze. Maybe it was too much; maybe Lawrence was too fragile to handle it, because he’d dropped almost immediately after thanking the siphoner.
It happened too fast for Teddy to intervene, falling to his knees beside Lawrence’s body. “Lawrence?” He asked, carefully laying a hand on the vampire’s arm. “Lawrence?” He was louder, more panicked, giving his friend a gentle shake. He didn’t want to get too close and have Lawrence lash out like last time, but it didn’t seem like he’d wake up at all. Teddy hovered his finger under Lawrence’s nose, letting out a heavy breath when he felt his friend’s own. He was still alive, but probably not for much longer.
Risky or not, Teddy had to try. He reached out, wrapping his fingers around Lawrence’s arm, directly underneath the bite. Dark eyes closed, mind stilling as he focused. He thought of pulling out nothing more than the toxins from Lawrence, imagined the black veins fading, and colour returning to the vampire’s hands. Eyes flicking open, Teddy watched the wound begin to close up, disappearing as if nothing had happened, and he’d never been more grateful for his powers. Usually, he thought of them as dangerous and shameful, bringing nothing but heartache and grief, but for once they’d… helped somebody. Saved Lawrence’s life, and allowed Teddy to keep his only friend. Tears pricked his eyes as he pulled back his hand, sniffling, brown hues ticking to Lawrence’s face.
“Lawrence?” He croaked, “How do you feel?”

Lawrence's blue eyes narrowed as his friend frowned at his suggestion to take him out. He knew if it needed though Teddy would do the necessary to keep himself safe. He had Julian to look after. A silver blade wasn't going to keep Lawrence down permanently, though, but maybe just enough time for the venom to finish its job. As he kept his eyes narrowed, he realized he was now squinting at Teddy as he was going out of focus slightly. When Teddy agreed to Lawrence's plan, he exhaled slowly. He was glad to hear he wasn't just talking drivel due to the venom affecting his sanity. By this point, he wasn't even bothered if his friend stuck the life out of him. They had no other choice. "Fucking wolves," He muttered to himself quietly. Shame he couldn't track the animal down to rip their head off or even inject them with wolfsbane, see if they like the poison infecting their body. Needlessly to say, he was furious about being bit, partly at himself. If he lived to see another full moon, he was undoubtedly going to lock himself inside until it passed. Lawrence felt like he was in the lake with his friends and sisters for hours, but realistically it was less than 5 minutes. The warmth of the lake was replaced by a cold hard feeling against the back of his body. He wasn't swimming; he was lying on Teddy's floor. He had never been hit by a train, but he imagined this is how it would feel. He felt drained, physically and mentally exhausted. "Lawrence?" - "How do you feel?"His blue eyes flickered open slowly as the world came back into focus. "Jesus Murphy," He said weakly as he shuffled himself into a sitting position. Lawrence quickly looked down at his arm, realizing the burning sensation was gone. He rubbed it furiously, convinced he was seeing things again, but no, the bite was gone. Teddy had done it; he had saved his life, "You did!" He exclaimed with joy as he pulled his best friend in for a tight hug, holding back the tears of happiness. "I thought I was a goner then" He let go of Teddy, wearing a massive grin on his face which soon faded as the guilt started to surface, "Oh shit, I'm so sorry about your neighbour, and I'm sorry I pushed you" He sighed. He knew Teddy wouldn't harbour any hard feelings against him for his manic behaviour, but still, he felt bad for his actions. If the past few hours had taught Lawrence, he needed to try and do more with his life. His mind floated to the young vampire he had met at the school, Jade. He had been toying with the idea of texting her for weeks now, but every time he went to compose a message, he backed out. He was scared of the rejection and afraid of allowing someone else to see his vulnerabilities, but after what had just happened, he thought maybe he should take the plunge and text her. "You got any rum?" Lawrence asked Teddy, with a smirk, "I need a drink after all that" Realistically, he needed blood, and human blood, not animal, but he knew that wasn't an option. On just animal blood, he was going to feel dreadful for a day or two at least. It would be a while before he was back up to full strength. It was times like this he hated the strict rules imposed by the school. Human blood was essential for a vampire to survive. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ Teddy felt the relief wash over him like a warm wave, pulling him back to every happy event in his life. Moments he’d stolen with Octavia, especially after Julian was born━when they were a tiny, little family of their own. It wasn’t often they had moments like that, but Teddy cherished it each time they had. And he was glad he did━because he’d never get any more of them.
While this wasn’t a moment where he could wrap up his wife and son and not have a care in the world, it was still a time he would be happy to recall later. Up there with those other memories, stored carefully, something to look back on and smile about. Teddy would never forget how blue Lawrence’s eyes were when they first reopened, full of life and clearly safe from any damage the bite (or his siphoning) had caused.
He was pulling Lawrence in at the same time, knowing he wasn’t too weak to handle an excited hug after his exclamation. Teddy threw his arms around his best friend, hugging him tightly, a wet laugh choking its way out. “I did, too,” The siphoner huffed out a gentle breath, trying to control the tears that threatened to pour down his cheeks.
‘Oh shit, I'm so sorry about your neighbour, and I'm sorry I pushed you.’
Another laugh came as Teddy leaned back, one hand rubbing the few tears away from his cheeks. It wasn’t so funny in the moment━he’d been scared for his life and the old lady’s next door, but everything worked out in the end. There was no use worrying about it now━all that mattered was Lawrence’s life, and how quickly it could’ve ended. “It’s fine, you were having a near-death experience; I think I’ll be able to forgive you.” Teddy joked, giving a small shake of his head as he grinned.
‘You got any rum? I need a drink after all that.’
“Me too.” He laughed again, slowly getting himself to his feet. Before Lawrence, Teddy didn’t usually keep liquor around, finding no use for it. They hadn’t any on the commune, though one of the elders had surely tried his luck at producing moonshine. They had wine, of course, but it was used for ritual purposes. With his time out in the open, in the real world, Teddy found that alcohol was a way to bond with others. People shared glasses over meals, and drank heavily as a way of showing comradery. So, Teddy picked up a few bottles to impress his new friend, and it’d only grown from there━not that he ever touched them when Lawrence wasn’t over.
Teddy opened the cupboard and found only brightly-coloured, plastic children’s cups, the rest of the glasses still sitting in the sink and waiting to be washed. With a sigh, he retrieved two━blue for himself, and red for Lawrence━and then the bottle of rum, pouring a generous double shot into each cup. “Don’t tell Julian.” He snorted, raising the blue cup and clinking it against Lawrence’s, though it made more of a strange knocking sound, causing a grin to spread across Teddy’s lips. He knocked it back anyway, trying to hold in the choking cough that threatened to bubble up from his throat, eyes burning from a different sort of tears. “If that doesn’t help you return to the land of the living, I don’t what will.” Teddy chuckled, shaking his head.
“Next time, don’t wait so fucking long before coming to me, okay?” He raised his brows at Lawrence, holding the vampire’s eyeline to show his seriousness. “I could’ve lost you there, and I… don’t want that to happen.” Teddy turned solemn again, a small frown tugging at the edges of his lips.

It was heart warming to see how grateful Teddy was to still have Lawrence alive and breathing. It had been so long since the vampire had someone in his life who genuinely cared that deeply for him. The relief on his best friend's face was enough to cause his eyes to prickly with tears. "Shit, look at us being emotional," He laughed, taking a deep breath. Near-death experience or not, Lawrence would never forgive himself for hurting someone in a moment of frenzy, especially not Teddy. He was relieved to find something buried inside, something that kept him tethered to his humanity and stopped him from tearing people apart, even in his weak moments. The vampire pushed himself up off the floor, laughing as Teddy agreed he could do with a drink as well. "Wow, Theodore Aaronson having a drink before the sun goes down… I must have given you a scare," He jested. Over the years, he had only seen Teddy drunk a few times; he always appeared to be monitored how much he was drinking and cautious not to go too over the top. Lawrence, however, knocked them back like there was no tomorrow, but his tolerance was on a whole different level to his friend and most of the time, he drank to suppress the hunger. Watching as Teddy poured the dark liquid in the plastic cups, Lawrence grinned, "I would never tell" He took the plastic cup, knocked it against Teddy's and swilled back the rum. His expression changed a little, but nothing compared to Teddy's, "You need to up your drinking game buddy" He understood why Teddy wasn't much of a drinker. He had a toddler to look after on his own. "I would have come sooner, but my mind didn't exactly put two and two together until this morning when my father was fucking staring at me from the kitchen" He exhaled slowly, "Anyway, there won't be a next time. I am not stepping foot outside my apartment on a full moon ever again" Next month he was bolting his door tightly shut and locking all his windows. He wasn't taking any chances with those wolves again. He placed the plastic cup down as he reached for the bottle of rum. Lawrence filled his cup up, before tilting the bottle slightly towards the siphoner, silently offering to pour him a second drink though he was expecting his friend to decline politely. "Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. I would never leave you behind," He insisted, his voice regaining a level of sobriety. He was so glad he stepped in that night in the woods and helped Teddy with his coven. Now he had a friend for life. Someone who was always there for him, and always saw the good in him, even if he didn't at times. "Funnily enough, I was going to text you today anyway" Wolf bite aside. He did intend to get in touch with Teddy, "So… I met a girl the other week, and I want to ask her out for a drink, but I don't know how to start the conversation," He admitted with a bashful laugh. The last time he went on a date was before cell phones existed, and you just asked someone out for a drink. Nowadays, there were texts and messages to be sent, and he would have to sit around waiting for a reply. "So far, all I have is 'Hi, it's Lawrence'" He sighed softly. The vampire had been out of the 'dating game' for far too long. He was rusty. It felt odd asking Teddy for dating advice, as he had never heard his friend talk about any woman, apart from mentioning his late wife every now and then. Lawrence never prodded the situation, though, understanding Teddy was still grieving his loss. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ “No, thank you,” Teddy finally choked, laughing softly through it, a small shake of his head. “Quite alright with not drinking my liver away. You might not have to worry about that, but I do.” The siphoner grinned at his best friend, though the expression faded once Lawrence recounted his day. Teddy couldn’t imagine what it must’ve been like━terrifying, no doubt. If he’d woken up to see his mother or Octavia standing in the kitchen… no, he didn’t even want to think about that.
“Good.” Teddy nodded firmly when Lawrence vowed to stay inside next month, raising his cup to take more of the liquor━not that Teddy really should’ve, but it could calm his nerves for the rest of the day. Surely, he wouldn’t be going back to sleep, but he needed to rest at the very least. “Or come here before the sun goes down. We’ll make a movie night out of it, and you can hang out with Julian and I. Stay over; then we can have breakfast in the morning.” He grinned. They already did that more than once a month, but Teddy wouldn’t ever give up the opportunity to spend more time with his best friend. It also gave Lawrence the peace of mind to be around friends━or family, really━during what was often a tumultuous night.
‘Don't worry, I’m not going anywhere. I would never leave you behind,’
Teddy had been staring into the dark liquid filling his cup, contemplating the next shot and mentally preparing himself for it. The words brought his eyes back up to Lawrence’s lighter ones, though, another soft smile spreading across his face. Exhaling slowly, he nodded once, feeling the familiar burn of tears at the backs of his eyes. “Good. Julian wouldn’t be able to handle it,” It was a gentle attempt at a joke, the widening smile proving as much. He wasn’t one to avoid emotions━especially not at a time like this━but he also wasn’t ready to start bawling in Lawrence’s arms.
To stave off the overly emotional reaction or moving in for a hug, Teddy took the shot instead, gagging as he drained the cup. He grumbled once it was empty, and tossed it into the sink, leaning back against the counter. The siphoner shook his head from side to side, but even that was enough to make him feel queasy. “That’s it for me,” He sighed, but he was sure Lawrence knew he was more than welcome to have another cup. He could polish off the bottle for all Teddy cared.
‘So… I met a girl the other week, and I want to ask her out for a drink, but I don't know how to start the conversation. So far, all I have is 'Hi, it's Lawrence.’
Teddy chuckled first, but before long, his brows were knotted together, dark eyes ticking to Lawrence’s face. “You’re asking me?” Sure, going to friends for advice was normal (or so Teddy assumed, for he’d never had a close friend like this before) but, if anything, Teddy would’ve thought it would be the other way around━that he would be asking Lawrence for advice. Though, only one of them had managed to marry before, so perhaps Lawrence thought Teddy was good at this━as if Octavia hadn’t been his first and only love, bound together from childhood. They didn’t have a choice in the matter; soulmates, and promised, whether or not Teddy had any game.
“I would stick with ‘Hi, it’s Lawrence. Would you like to get coffee with me sometime?’” Teddy grinned, “Or a drink, since you’re so good at that. Don’t start shooting liquor like a drunkard on your first date, though… unless she’s into that.” He paused, brow furrowing in thought. “And if she is, then maybe she isn’t the right girl to settle down with.” That’s all this was for, wasn’t it? Marriage was the endgame, and a first date meant you had to scope out whether or not you could do this long-term.

Thank God Lawrence didn't have to worry about drinking his liver away, often forgetting mortals have to be concerned about things like that. Disease, and illnesses. It was one of the few benefits of being a vampire, knowing he wouldn't develop something sinister as he grew older. Forever stuck in the body of his 19 year old self, with not a single age line on face despite being over 100. Just needed to watch out for those wolves. Lawrence broke into a warm grin at Teddy's suggestion, "I'm on board with that," He beamed. It was hard for the vampire sometimes, having no living family members around. There was no one there for him to fall back on, or pick him up when he was in a dark place, but since meeting Teddy, all that had changed. He considered the siphoner family. It worked both ways as well; Lawrence was always there for Teddy no matter what. He could approach the vampire to say he'd kill someone and Lawrence would help him hide the body. Meeting Teddy had brought a sense of warmth to his otherwise abrasive personality. As a human, Lawrence was in touch with his emotions, often feeling them too deeply, but he spent decades pushing them down since turning. Terrified to endure that overwhelming sense of emotions he had to dealt with in the first few years, telling himself if he just disregarded his feelings, they would go away. Refusing to let himself dwell. But with Teddy, he could be himself, allowing down that guard that had been up for so long. It was comforting to let someone in finally. "Good. Julian wouldn't be able to handle it," Of course, he would never leave Julian behind either, assuring the young warlock he would be around forever, literally, even promising Julian he would take him for his first legal drink when he was 21. Somewhere more sophisticated than the Underground Club, though. In the meantime, he taught Julian mischievous spells on the sly that sometimes backfired when the warlock used them on Lawrence. Lawrence knocked back the liquor, a smile edging across his face as Teddy retched a little. "How am I best friends with someone who can't knock back a shot without gagging?" He teased as he poured himself a second drink. If he were human, he would no doubt be gagging too. He decided to nurse his second drink, taking a sip this time. "You're asking me?" Granted, Teddy wasn't going on a different date every other week, but he had been married? He had progressed further than Lawrence had done with relationships. His parents had arranged his engagement; he had a minimal say in the situation. Nonetheless, the vampire looked up to the siphoner. Lawrence was thinking more along the lines of a drink in a bar, but either worked. Anything that didn't involve food, as it would be wasted on both vampires. Shooting liquor like a drunkard, though? He would probably save that for the second date. Even though he was rusty, he was familiar with the first date etiquette. He needed to overcome the first hurdle before he worried about the actual date. Jade needed to say yes, and if she didn't. Well, he would never show his face in school again. The vampire moved the plastic cup to his lips for a second sip. Settle down?Lawrence paused; the cup was tickling his lips. He drew his arm back down again, blue eyes lifting to meet his friend. "It's just a date, not a wedding rehearsal," He replied, "The thought of settling down is... terrifying" He understood where Teddy was coming from though, he too had lived through eras where you only spoke with a girl if you were intending on proposing to her, but things had changed now. Society had changed, and he was rolling with it. Nowadays, it was normal to go on a few dates and never see each other again. Would he ever settle though? Perhaps for a few decades, but possibly not forever with just one person. There were no milestones for him. No marriage, no family. One day Lawrence would ache for that, craving a normal relationship. "Anyway, what're you doing today? Fancy binging some shit daytime TV?" The vampire asked, as he collected his plastic cup and headed for the living room to make himself at home. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ Their lives were a little strange, though Teddy supposed that’s what made it interesting. He wasn’t sure how they’d gone from Lawrence nearly dying to sipping drinks and talking about dates, but there they were, leaning against Teddy’s counter and shooting liquor from kiddy cups. He supposed it kept things interesting, though it wasn’t as if this always happened to them. Sure, it was how they met, but the boys had months in between where they mostly sat around, watched TV, and Teddy slowly began introducing himself to snack foods━and liquor.
‘How am I best friends with someone who can't knock back a shot without gagging?’
“Because I’m normal, and you’re trying to corrupt me. I’ve been trying to keep you in line,” Teddy joked, still reeling from the alcohol, for a moment not realizing how true that was.
He asked Teddy for advice on dates, and while the siphoner was way out of his depth, he was thankful it was this and not something like screwing a demon stripper again. Either way, though, Teddy wasn’t exactly sure what to say. He tried his best, thinking back to Octavia━he was nice to her, albeit a bit awkward, but she’d liked him all the same. Maybe that’s all it came down to; whether or not you were a good match for the other person. You could say all the stupid shit you wanted, but if the girl was right for you, she’d probably just find it cute.
Teddy was a romantic, though, and that didn’t seem to be what Lawrence was interested in━considering his reaction to Teddy’s words. “Terrifying?” He countered, brows raising. He didn’t prod further, not wanting to get into a long, droning debate about it━especially not after what had just happened. Lawrence could do what he wanted, he was his own man, and he wasn’t Julian. Teddy would have his opinions but, ultimately, it was Lawrence’s choice.
‘Anyway, what're you doing today? Fancy binging some shit daytime TV?’
The siphoner chuckled, nodding a few times slowly, “I have to pick up Julian from school later, but I don’t have anything planned before or after that.” He smiled, letting the offering of an all-day hangout linger in the air. Lawrence could stay for dinner if he wanted; Teddy wouldn’t be bothered at all━happy about it, if anything.
Pushing off from the counter, Teddy wandered out of the kitchen to follow Lawrence, plopping down on the couch once they’d found their way to it. He settled, taking a small space on the edge of it and leaned forward, picking up the remote. Thumbing the power button, he managed to get it turned on before handing it off to Lawrence, figuring it was better off in the hands of his friend.
Still somewhat tired from his interrupted sleep, Teddy relaxed into the cushions, making short comments about some of the scenes they witnessed together. His ability to make jabs at modern entertainment was learned from Lawrence, the world inside the box-with-the-moving-pictures just as unfamiliar to Teddy as the world outside his coven. Teddy loved their time together━wouldn’t trade it for the world, even if they were doing something as simple as zoning out over bad television.
