━ i started to dream again ━ Every inch of Teddy’s body was aching. His bosses told him this was normal: as winter transitioned to summer, and flu season hit, there were many more burials than usual. He had worked a double shift, still trying to make the best impression he could. He was nearly out of his three month probation at the cemetery, and he was adamant that he would keep the job. He had to; he had a son to take care of.
After confirming with the sitter that she could stay all day with Julian, she hadn’t sent any more texts. No news was good news, he was sure, but it wasn’t like her to be so quiet.
As he began his walk home, he texted her.
‘Hi, leaving work now. Should be home in 15. How’s Julian?’
After two minutes with no reply, he sent another message. ‘Sarah? Everything okay?’
Nothing.
Teddy picked up the pace, every muscle in him pleading for a break, for him to stop. Moving. His phone began to buzz a moment later, and he could feel his stomach tense when he read the babysitter’s name on the screen. He answered before there was a second ring. “Is Julian okay? What’s going—”
‘Hello, Theodore.’
He knew that voice, and it sure as hell wasn’t Sarah’s. His body went still as everything around him began to go fuzzy. “What the fuck did you do to my son?” He snapped. His whole body was buzzing now, adrenaline surging through him, ready to decimate the entire coven if they had so much as touched Julian.
Ivan, one of his mother’s henchmen, a heavy-weight in the coven, told him that they were back for the debt they were owed. Teddy had not only turned his back on their coven, but he had killed one of the family before running away. And he hadn’t fulfilled his duties; he hadn’t given them an heir, while simultaneously murdering the only woman he could do it with. He said they were in the woods, with Julian, and they’d be waiting for him. As Teddy began to shout obscenities into the phone, Ivan ended the call.
Teddy looked down at his lockscreen, a picture he’d taken of Octavia and Julian displayed on it. They were both giggling, with Julian sitting on Octavia’s lap, staring back at Teddy with all the love in the world, both then, when he’d taken it, and now, as he stared at the photo. He’d never meant to hurt Octavia, it was the last thing he wanted to do. He’d been fighting so hard to get them to a safer place, one like Mystic Falls, where they could be a family. Where they could be safe.
Or so he thought.
With his newfound energy, Teddy stuffed his phone in his pocket and bolted across town, straight to the woods. He had no magic, and nothing to fight with, but they were threatening his son, so they were fucking dead already.
By the time he made it, the sun had vanished, and the woods were even darker; the light of the moon was barely bleeding through the leaves. Teddy used his phone’s flashlight to guide him through, calling out an, “Ivan! Ivan?! Give me my son, you bastard! I’ll fucking kill you!”
As he moved through the woods, he soon spotted a bright, orange orb in the distance and darted for it. Eventually, as he got closer, four hooded figures came into view. He stood a few feet back, the ball of orange light burning between Teddy and the witches, illuminating the space around them. “Where’s Julian?” He snapped as he put his phone away again. He figured he’d need both hands if he was going to destroy each of them.
‘He’s safe.’ One of the hooded figures spoke. Then, a voice behind him added, ‘You, however, are not.’
Teddy turned quickly, frowning once he realized he was surrounded. Ten witches and warlocks formed a circle around him, effectively trapping him in the middle with the ball of magic. “Great presentation, you guys. What 90’s movie did you pull this from? ‘The Craft’ or ‘Practical Magic?’” He muttered, turning back around so that the orb was in front of him.
‘You’re going to pay for what you did to this coven, Teddy. For what you are, and for what you did to Octavia.’
He hadn’t heard her name since before he’d left. It hurt. His chest felt empty, like the days immediately after he lost her. When he couldn’t sleep, couldn’t move, couldn’t eat. Couldn’t do anything except miss her. “You mean for what you did? It’s because of you assholes I had to take magic from her! I had to fight you off or you’d hurt my family!” He did his best to hit a nerve, and as he was slammed with an invisible force to the chest and knocked back into the air, he knew he’d won.
Teddy landed right by the feet of one of the figures that had been behind him, barely giving himself time to recover before reaching out and grabbing the person’s ankle. He began to draw their magic away, watching them writhe in pain above him.
‘Stop!’ A witch to his right shouted, using her magic to push him away while he was still on the ground. He kept a tight hold on the other warlock’s ankle, dragging him with Teddy as he slid. Once the warlock dropped from exhaustion, Teddy launched to his feet and pushed his hands towards the ground, making the bed of cold, wet leaves under them fly up, knocking almost every one of them to the ground. And, with the orb as his only source of light, he began fighting for his life. For Julian’s life.

Late night walks had become a thing for Lawrence recently, especially in the woods. The silence was a blessing. All he could hear the sound of his feet kicking through the leaves as he wandered aimlessly. It was another sleepless night for him, plagued with nightmares and pit of dread in his stomach. Nights like this he struggled to comprehend what his life had come to. He was dead and drinking blood to survive. Lawrence was no longer the young witch who died over 70 years ago. That version of him was naive, docile and carefree, he was the complete opposite now. Sometimes he missed that version of him, but over the years he had come to realise this was for the best. He never wanted to be leader of the coven anyway, it was too much pressure and having an image to live up to. However, Lawrence’s pity party was disrupted by voices in the distance. He tuned in his hearing to see what, or who it could be. Sounded like chanting or potentially a spell. Curiosity got the better of him and he headed over to where the noise was coming from. He was careful and quiet with his steps, not wanting to alarm the witches and warlocks that there was someone nearby. He positioned himself behind a tree, and tried to make out what these lot were up to. It was not a spell he was familiar with, but he watched as a bright orange light emerged between the four people. He moved back a little further, not wanting to be spotted. This situation was all too familiar to Lawrence. This is exactly what he would when he headed back to Canada to check up on his family. He would watch them from afar for hours, sometimes considering stepping out of the shadows and announcing his presence. He would imagine how his family would react, and what would the coven say. The biggest question was would his family greet him with open arms or a stake. These trips to Canada became too much for Lawrence though. He watched his parents break their promise, which was to find a cure for him and bring him home, however they focused on his sister instead. She was set to be the new leader. It was too painful to see everyone moving on just fine without him, and fed the rage he felt towards his parents and the coven. Soon there was another voice coming from the woods towards the witches and warlocks. It was an angry voice, shouting threats. Lawrence crouched down a little. This could get interesting. He saw a familiar face emerge from the woods. He pondered for a moment, trying to search his mind as to where he recognised this person from. Suddenly it clicked. He had seen him around the Salvatore School, but never exchanged words with the stranger. He was too old to be a student, so a teacher perhaps? His search for the answer was quickly interrupted when more witches and warlocks appeared from the dark. 10 vs 1 was hardly fair. Things were getting heated quickly. Lawrence watched the situation unfold. Now he was faced with a decision himself. He could watch these 10 witches and warlocks take on this one siphoner, he could walk away or he could help. Lawrence made the decision to help this guy out, as he had a feeling he was not the bad party in this fight. Plus killing a few witches and warlocks may tire him out before bed. The stranger was putting up a good fight though as he knocked the others to the floor. Lawrence quickly assessed the situation, planning the best mode of attack. He searched his surroundings and noticed a thick tree branch on the floor. He picked it up. He watched the coven scramble to their feet, and chose his target. A warlock facing him, with a clear shot. Lawrence threw the branch with maximum speed and strength, and it pierced through the chest of the warlock. His second target was a witch closer to him, with her back to him. Before she had a chance to turn around, to see where the attack had come from, Lawrence was behind her. One swift movement and he snapped her neck. ”Thought I’d help you out” He said to siphoner. ━ i started to dream again ━ Teddy hadn’t noticed the warlock begin to stand, he was busy fuming, waiting for the witch that had originally knocked him down to stand. A flash of movement gained his attention, though, and he turned quickly, watching as a whole tree branch stabbed through the chest of a warlock. When the warlock’s body collapsed, a nearby witch had her neck snapped, and behind her was the source of his help—a vampire, Teddy was sure.
But the vampire, thankfully, was on his side—if Teddy could go by his words alone. He didn’t have time to think about it, all he knew was that he had some help, and he was that much closer to getting back to Julian now. Teddy nodded at the vampire, given his silent thanks.
Finally, the witch stood, and Teddy whipped his head back around to watch her as she did. He didn’t hesitate as she began to raise her arms, and he beat her in the race to cast a spell.
Teddy threw her body into the air effortlessly, and with a flick of his finger she was slammed into the side of a tree. Whether she snapped her neck on the bark or the fall wasn’t a concern of Teddy’s. He just wanted her dead.
Somehow, and with great thanks from Teddy, he and the vampire worked perfectly in tandem. The spells were coming quick and Teddy was knocked on his ass once or twice, but they had each other’s backs. The orange light lit up their small battlefield, with Teddy turning at the last moment to swiftly kill a witch that had their eye on the vampire
Soon enough, the numbers against them began to dwindle. Teddy realized he was missing information—Julian wasn’t here, and while his best guess was that his kid was at their apartment, he couldn’t be sure. They could be halfway back to the commune by now.
“Wait!” Teddy yelled out as he turned and saw the last witch, not wanting the other man to kill her before he had a chance to interrogate her. He rushed up to her, grabbing her by the chest of her shirt, the anger inside him never dwindling. “Where’s Julian?” He growled.
‘I—I don’t—’
“No, shut up. Don’t fucking lie to me.” Teddy sighed heavily, as if he was actually trying to calm himself down. “I’m going to give you another chance to tell the truth or I’ll make sure you die as painfully as possible. Now think long and hard about your answer. Where is my son?”
‘Ivan has him at your apartment. Your mom sent us. Please, I didn’t want to hurt him. Just let me go!’
Teddy’s eyes didn’t leave her own as he began to drain her. She wiggled and cried out in pain as her magic left her body, and, eventually, there was no more left. He let her body drop to the ground without a second thought. She’d given him the information he needed; she wasn’t of any use to him anymore. And if she had lied, he’d personally kill his mother himself.
Teddy turned, pulling his phone out and putting the flashlight back on. After the last one was gone, the orange light went out, effectively getting rid of any ability to see that Teddy had. He turned back after a moment, keeping the light below the vampire’s neck to illuminate him without shining it in his eyes.
“I’m Teddy.” He said, debating shaking the mans hand, but realizing that either of them could’ve been covered in blood and so he promptly decided against it. “Thanks for your help, but they’ve got my kid, I gotta go,” He rushed out the words, taking a step sideways to demonstrate his urgency.
He stopped, though, and motioned to the vampire. “I don’t know why you helped me, but they’re keeping him hostage at my apartment. He’s only two, he—” Teddy cut himself off, rubbing his lips quickly and nervously. “There’s no way there’s ten of them in my apartment, so if you wanna come and help me out, I’d really fucking appreciate it.” He let out a heavy sigh, but none of his anxiety went with it. All he wanted was to see Julian and make sure he was safe.

There was no time for formalities. Things were moving fast. Another witch turned her attention to Lawrence, but he wasn’t taking any chances with her. He was quick to sink his hand into her chest, and rip her heart out. He remembers the first time he ever did that, and he was shocked at his own strength. Even now, it still surprised him. The heart stopped beating seconds after being extracted, and Lawrence casually threw it on the floor. He then proceeded to fight the others. Between them they managed to take down the rest of the witches and warlocks, albeit the siphoner was doing a better job, but it appeared he had something to fight for. Julian was it? Lawrence doesn’t remember a time fighting for someone apart from himself, nor does he remember a time when someone fought for him. Even his parents didn’t fight for him when he died. Surrounded by dead witches and warlocks there was one witch left to kill. She had her eyes on him. Lawrence was running on pure adrenaline with a mixture of anger, although he had no idea why the anger was present. Maybe he was imagining this was his coven, and he was taking them down one by one, tearing them apart as he went along. The veins around Lawrence's eyes appeared, and his eyes grew darker. His fangs appeared, and he was ready to sink his teeth into this witch. He was seconds away from making him move when he heard the siphoner call out. Lawrence held back, and his face returning to normal. Julian was the stranger’s son, and the whole scene that had just played out made some kind of sense. Having your child taken by someone is a pain Lawrence would never experience, and he could not comprehend the love a parent feels for their child. The chance of that even happened was taken away from him a long time ago, and he tries not to dwell on it. Lawrence watched as the life was drained from the witch by the siphoner. Soon as the witch dropped to the floor the orange light went out. Lawrence gave Teddy a small nod after he introduced himself and he announced he was leaving. He had his kid to rescue, and Lawrence wasn’t going to stand in his way. He was about to leave when Teddy stopped, “I don’t know why you helped me, but they’re keeping him hostage at my apartment. He’s only two, he—” Lawrence was about to explain why he helped, but remembered that time was not on their side. “There’s no way there’s ten of them in my apartment, so if you wanna come and help me out, I’d really fucking appreciate it.”He pondered for a second though. He wasn’t usually one to help witches and warlocks out, but Teddy was fighting against his kind. On initial assessment, Teddy seemed like a half decent guy, so he decided to give the guy a hand. Plus Teddy just wanted to find his two year old. Lawrence shrugged. ”Yeah sure. My plans for this evening were looking bleak anyway” He stepped aside letting Teddy lead the way back into Mystic Falls, ”So, your mother sent these guys then?” He gestured towards the dead bodies. ━ i started to dream again ━ ‘Yeah sure. My plans for this evening were looking bleak anyway.’
Teddy would’ve laughed if his mind wasn’t elsewhere, caught up in worry and plagued with any and all terrible ideas of what they could be doing to his child. He had no time to talk, no time to do anything except panic.
Teddy started moving towards the edge of the woods, taking a moment before responding to the vampire. He didn’t know this man’s name, and yet he’d risked his life for Teddy. He wasn’t ready to unpack all of his bullshit onto this stranger, but he figured he owed the man something for all the help he’d given. “Yeah, she… fucking bitch,” Teddy spat, sighing heavily. He could feel his chest begin to tighten at the thought of them doing something to Julian, tears pricking his eyes. Teddy looked down quickly, swiping the back of his hand across his eyes. “I left her coven, but I was the first born. So she wanted a granddaughter to take over.” He paused, glancing over at his company, “We had a son.”
We. They weren’t a ‘we’ anymore, and though Teddy blamed the coven for the whole of it, he couldn’t let go of the fact that he had been the one to kill his wife. He was the reason she was gone.
Teddy picked up the pace, running as fast as he could again. He was sure the vampire could be there in seconds, but Teddy was too frantic; he wouldn’t have been able to remember his address in that moment even if it was asked of him. Nothing was on his mind except saving Julian. Nothing mattered.
His body brought him to the apartment building on pure adrenaline and muscle memory, guiding Teddy to the doors. He nearly went straight through the glass, though, thankfully, he stopped to unlock the second set of doors and rushed to the elevator, pushing the arrow button. That was when he turned to his companion again, panting as he spoke, “You can get up there in seconds, right? Floor ten, apartment ten-oh-nine. Just… make sure he’s okay.” Teddy didn’t care if he was asking too much of a stranger. Julian mattered more to him than anything, and this elevator ride would allow his own mostly-human body to catch up. It would be no use bounding up ten flights of stairs and then having no energy to fight them off. He knew Ivan was in the room, but he couldn’t imagine who else he’d fit into that tiny apartment, or what they’d done with his babysitter. He assumed that one of them had calmed Julian, too, as there’d been no crying in the background.
The thought of one of those pricks laying their hands on Julian had him practically shaking with anger.

It was clear Teddy had some personal family issues and Lawrence knew better than to pry, especially when it seemed like Teddy was tearing up. "Yeah. She does sound like a bitch" He agreed. Lawrence knew being the first born to the Coven leaders is a difficult role to live up to, and if you fail there can be serious consequences. "I'm Lawrence by the way" He realised he had forgotten to introduce himself, as he was too busy snapping necks and ripping hearts out. He glanced down at the blood still on his hands and wiped them on his jeans. Another pair of good jeans ruined by blood. Lawrence trailed behind Teddy, keeping up with him at ease. He'd forgotten how slow humans moved, but Teddy was moving relatively fast for human pace. They both arrived at the apartment block. “You can get up there in seconds, right? Floor ten, apartment ten-oh-nine. Just… make sure he’s okay.”Lawrence nodded, and left Teddy and ran up the stairs as quickly as he could, whilst reciting the apartment number in his head. Lawrence had no idea what had pushed him into helping Teddy, as he tended to stay out of other people's business, especially when he could end up killed as a result of mendling. Perhaps he had a slight bit of sympathy for the Siphoner and found himself understanding the situation Teddy was in with his Coven. Plus these guys had his kid, and Lawrence wasn’t going to stand by and let an innocent child get hurt. He arrived at 1009 in seconds and lingered outside the door listening in. There was no screaming or crying child, which was good news. It was silent inside the apartment. Lawrence decided against kicking the door down as he wouldn't be able to enter Teddy apartment without an invitation. If he were to kick the door down and the situation escalated Lawrence would be stuck in the corridor, looking in, which was useless. He patiently waited for Teddy, whilst listening into the apartment for any signs of the child's distress. Although as he stood waiting he felt an anger rise inside of him. Pretty low blow using someone's child to get to them, and they have the audacity to look down on vampires. By the time Teddy emerged from the elevator Lawrence was ready to help him kill whoever was inside the apartment. ”You need to invite me in” TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ The whole elevator ride was no more than a few moments, and yet it seemed like forever. Running up the stairs would leave him with absolutely no energy left, and he needed it if he was going to save Julian from whatever was waiting for them inside the apartment. Teddy’s body twitched and ached as he stood in the moving box, wishing it would go faster, shaking with a mix of anxiety and adrenaline.
Finally, there was that stupid dinging sound, and he was pushing past the doors before they were all the way open, rushing to his door. He furrowed his brows at Lawrence, wondering why the fuck he was waiting outside, but then the vampire reminded him of the rules. Ones he might’ve been taught at some point in his childhood lessons on the commune, but that he hadn’t remembered in his wild flurry of emotions. He relaxed his expression a bit, and then let out a quick, “Come in,” as he turned the knob, opening the door to his small apartment. He’d hoped that Lawrence could’ve gone in and started picking them off one by one, but obviously that had just been wishful thinking.
Ivan was standing in the living room, immediately visible, and two other warlocks rose from the couch, turning to face Teddy and Lawrence.
“You were supposed to━”
“What, go to the woods and get fucking killed? Don’t worry, you’ll see your friends on the Other Side soon enough, asshole.” Teddy bit back at Ivan, the tallest and bulkiest of the bunch━of the whole coven, maybe. He was mostly muscle, as if it mattered when you had the ability to conduct magic from your own, inner source. He was blonde while the other two men were much darker; by their hair, and sunken eyes. Teddy was sure he’d grown up with the other two, but he couldn’t stop glaring at Ivan. “Where the fuck is Julian?”
“In his room, asleep. You wouldn’t want to wake him, would you?” Ivan asked, and then his eyes went to Lawrence. “Who’s your friend? I thought you’d realize you needed to come alone━Julian is going to have to grow up with neither parent now, and it’s all your fault.”
Teddy knew that Ivan was just trying to get a rise out of him. He knew that Ivan just wanted Teddy to lash out, and he couldn’t help but give in. Not when Octavia was mentioned; not when Julian’s life was in danger. His hand flung up, ready to use what magic he had left, but Ivan was faster. Teddy’s body went flying back and up, his shoulders hitting the drywall first, and then his skull. He bounced against it and then dropped to the floor, his cheek pressed to the hardwood. The room was spinning, and he thought he was going to throw up. He wanted to heal himself, but he didn’t have the focus or energy for it, not in that state.
All he could hope for was a quick recovery, and that maybe, maybe, the stranger he’d brought along wouldn’t back out now. At this point, Lawrence was Teddy’s only hope.

Lawrence followed Teddy into his apartment. It was the bane of his life having to be invited into people's homes. Where did that even come from? He started to wonder when Teddy would start losing his magic, and needed a recharge. Lawrence wasn’t overly keen on the idea of Teddy using him as a battery pack, as he knew it could kill him, although this would have been a very elaborate plan to kill Lawrence. Teddy seemed like a trustworthy guy. As they entered the apartment Lawrence assessed their surroundings, looking for weapons to use, if needed, and sizing up the three warlocks inside. He spotted a fork lying on a table nearby. There was one warlock who was clearly stronger than the others, so he needed to be taken down first. He assumed this was the Ivan guy that was mentioned earlier. The other two were feebly looking, and easy targets. Probably just following orders from the big guy. As the pair started to exchange heated words, Lawrence geared himself up as he knew things were about to escalate. However, he wasn’t expecting the warlock to send Teddy flying backwards into the drywall, leaving him and three other warlocks. There was no hesitation, and Lawrence didn’t even wait for Teddy’s body to hit the floor before grabbing the fork from the nearby table and launching it at Ivan's eye. As he was preoccupied with pain Lawrence sank his teeth into his neck. It had been at least a year since Lawrence had bitten a human, and he had forgotten how intoxicating it was. Usually Lawrence would stop just before the person died, but he was aiming to kill this time. His enjoyment was disrupted by the other two weaker looking warlocks. "Ahhh!" Lawrence’s teeth unlocked from his victim's neck as his head was filled with a searing pain. The pain knocked him to his knees, and Lawrence reached up to grab his head, fresh blood spilling from his mouth onto the floor. He hadn't realised the one of the pair had snapped the wooden leg off a chair in the apartment. The burning sensation in his head was swiftly replaced with the table leg piercing through his chest. It was mere inches from his heart. Inches from killing him. Lawrence wrapped his hands around the leg and ripped it from his chest. These two were amateurs and out of their depth. "You’re supposed to aim for the heart". Lawrence sped forward and snapped the neck of the warlock who tried to kill him, before turning his attention to the other one. His fangs were apparent, and his eyes were dark. He was furious and wanted to shed blood. The lone warlock backed off and ran from the apartment. They weren’t prepared to die today. Lawrence calmed himself down, glanced over at Teddy. "You okay?" He walked over and offered a hand out to Teddy. "The big guy is still alive by the way, so fill yer boots" Lawrence could hear shallow breathing coming from the warlock bleeding out on Teddy’s floor. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ Teddy let his eyes fall shut, but that only made him feel as if he was on a rollercoaster. Jerking around and swaying, looping over himself, upside down for a moment. Dark eyes flew open once more, his blurry vision sliding over the lines of the wood panels, taking in each stained floorboard and counting the grains. The grunts and yells from the men were muffled by Teddy’s mind as his brain tried to recover, attempting to catch up with the rest of his body. He watched as muddy boots rushed past him and out the door, and Teddy prayed that it wasn’t Lawrence.
‘You okay? The big guy is still alive by the way, so fill yer boots.’
What? Even without the head injury, he still would’ve been confused by the expression. Teddy hadn’t spent a lot of time out in the modern world, he had only been getting used to it in his adult life, but that was definitely something he’d never heard before. While his brain worked to figure out what Lawrence was saying, it distracted from how horrible he was feeling. He still didn’t want to heal himself, even if he had a vampire on his side. His magic could be used for better things━if he had any left.
Teddy grumbled out a somewhat pained sound, though he was reaching up after a moment and grasping Lawrence’s hand. “I’ll be fine…” He mumbled, using his leverage on the vampire, and pushing up off the floor, slowly getting himself to his feet. Lawrence was covered in blood, but he supposed he couldn’t judge him━not when two out of three of the attackers were handled, and Ivan was writhing in pain on the floor. Teddy could hear Julian sobbing in the back room, calling out for him, and he darted a hand out, locking Julian’s door from down the hall.
His eyes went from the door, to Lawrence, and then to Ivan as he slowly walked to the man, watching him tug the fork out of his eye. Before he could get up, Teddy lifted his leg and stomped his foot down onto Ivan’s face━once, twice, before he heard Ivan’s nose crack. “You’ll see my mom soon enough. I hope you both rot.” And with that, Teddy used what little magic he had left to pop Ivan like a squashed grape. Messy, maybe unnecessary, but he was livid. For the first time in a while, he thought it was pretty helpful that he worked at a cemetery.
Teddy turned to Lawrence then, a heavy set frown on his face, even though they’d won. Even though he owed this man his (and Julian’s) life. “I can’t… thank you enough for this.” He spoke softly, still lightheaded from being hurled into the wall. “I don’t know why you helped me, but I’ll never forget it.” Teddy tried for a smile then, but it was weak and sad. He knew he needed to get this cleaned up before he could comfort Julian, but as another dizzy spell hit him and he reached out to grab Lawrence’s shoulder, he figured it was more logical to wait until he was feeling better. Teddy’s face twisted up for a moment as he breathed through it, still using the vampire as a crutch to lean on. “I don’t have anything to offer you, I’m sorry. I can give you a change of clothes or…” It was a lame donation, especially considering what Lawrence had done for him. “If you ever need help━or anything at all, I’ll be there in an instant. I give you my word.” His tone was steady, calm as he looked into the other man’s eyes, trying to show him how serious he was. Teddy was forever indebted to this vampire.

For a moment Lawrence thought Teddy was dead and felt a sense of relief when he opened his eyes. Dealing with three dead bodies and a child would be a bit too much. He then heard the child calling for his father, and was hoping the little one didn’t leave his room to see the mess in the apartment. It would take a lot to explain this away to a toddler, but thankfully Teddy locked his door. Another sense of relief. Lawrence stepped back a little as Teddy caved in the skull of this Ivan guy lay on the floor. “You’ll see my mom soon enough. I hope you both rot.” Now Lawrence had seen a lot of blood in his lifetime, but he had never seen someone's head explode in quite a way before. It was disgusting, yet fascinating and it was one hell of a mess to clean up. He was a little annoyed one of the warlocks had managed to get away, it felt like an unfinished job. Lawrence had made sure to remember his face though, in case they ever cross paths again. No one tries to stake him and gets away with it. “I can’t… thank you enough for this.” He wasn’t use to being considered the good guy in a situation and it gave him a sense of achievement. He had done a nice deed for someone else, which was rare for him, but it felt warming, which was a feeling he hadn’t felt in a long time. Lawrence smiled. I don’t know why you helped me, but I’ll never forget it. He wasn’t 100% sure why he helped either, but he knew it was his unresolved anger towards coven. “I hate controlling covens, and going after someone's kid is pretty fucked up” He replied, but with that Teddy grabbed hold of his shoulder. Lawrence helped to balance the siphoner by grabbing him by the other shoulder. “I don’t have anything to offer you, I’m sorry. I can give you a change of clothes or…” A fresh jumper would go down a treat right now, but he lived in the same apartment building a few floors up. He could get from here to his apartment without someone spotting him covered in blood. He was keen to get in the shower as well. “I’m fine, I actually live in this block, a few floors up, but thank you anyway” Lawrence responded. “If you ever need help━or anything at all, I’ll be there in an instant. I give you my word.” Lawrence made eye contact with Teddy, this guy was seriously thankfully for his help. Who knows there could be a time he needed a warlock’s help and would call on Teddy. “Sit down,” He said, guiding Teddy towards the sofa. “Would you feel better if you siphoned magic from me?” This man had earned his trust, and Lawrence was willing to help him get back to full strength. There was an option to give Teddy some of his blood, to help him heal but he thought it would be best to go down the siphoning route first. There was always that chance Teddy could die within 24 hours and he would be like him, or one of those heretics and Lawrence would feel guilty if that happened. “How are you going to get rid of the bodies?” He paused for a moment, “The small one could go out with the trash” The scrawny dead warlock on the floor could easily fit into a trash bag and be thrown down the chute, but it was Ivan who was going to be an issue. The big ones were always an issue. “Or cloak them” Although he wasn’t sure cloaking would work on a dead body. TEDDY AARONSON - i love these two

━ i started to dream again ━ ‘I hate controlling covens, and going after someone's kid is pretty fucked up.’
Teddy furrowed a brow at Lawrence. He wasn’t wrong, but it seemed a little too personal of a statement to be considered a coincidence. He couldn’t inquire just yet, though━he was still too weak, and Lawrence’s support was just about the only thing keeping Teddy vertical.
He was almost ecstatic, though, when Lawrence revealed that he lived in the same building. Teddy couldn’t imagine how he’d been so lucky to meet a man that helped him save his child and Teddy’s own life, and also lived just a few floors above him. He wasn’t expecting trouble again, but━if it happened━he knew who he’d ask for first.
Teddy wavered slightly under Lawrence’s hand, another dizzy spell hitting him. He let the vampire guide him to the couch, and once Teddy felt the cushions against the backs of his knees, he let himself fall down onto it. But even the soft couch was only forgiving to a point, and the sharp movement rocked the brain within his skull, causing the siphoner to dry heave lightly. “Fuck,” He cured, letting his head fall back onto the couch. He stared at the ceiling, trying to focus on one spot, hoping that would make the room stop spinning.
‘Would you feel better if you siphoned magic from me?’
“No.” Teddy’s reply was immediate, and as sharp as he could make it. He wasn’t comfortable siphoning magic from anybody━though there were some exceptions. “I don’t… do that anymore. Unless they’re going to hurt me, like…” He didn’t want to keep speaking━he was sure Lawrence could piece together his reluctance. The words brought a nauseating feeling to his throat, and not only because of the history that had caused his moral rule. The terrible feeling brought on another train of thought, though━could he really kill a vampire by taking all their magic? He couldn’t be sure, but he hoped it didn’t work that way because he was truly considering it again. The one thing he was terrified of doing. “I don’t think I’d be able to hurt you too much if I tried, though. You can heal instantly…” Teddy slowly tipped his chin down until he found Lawrence’s face with his unsteady eyes. He would just have to be incredibly careful.
‘How are you going to get rid of the bodies?’
“I don’t know.” Teddy sighed, though there it was again━mentioning something about spells. Had this vampire been a witch in his previous life? Or was he close with a coven at some point? “Were you part of a coven?” Teddy asked outright. His brain was having trouble doing much of anything, and the question was pressing━he’d figure out the bodies later. There had been enough ‘animal attacks’ in this town that he was sure it wouldn’t be much of a hassle to be rid of them. “You mentioned that you hate controlling covens, you have in-depth knowledge about spells and… you know what a siphoner is.” He narrowed his eyes just a bit, though it was mostly to help him focus on Lawrence. Teddy wasn’t angry, and even though a thought danced into his mind that wondered whether or not Lawrence was actually another ploy sent by his mother, he didn’t think the vampire would’ve helped so much or stuck around this long if that were true. Teddy wasn’t immediately trusting, but this man had done so much for him that he couldn’t help but be filled with gratitude.

Dry heaving wasn't what Lawrence wanted to hear. He could handle blood and guts, but sick was another thing. He had never been good with sick. He was praying Teddy wouldn't throw up, otherwise, he would have to leave "No" Lawrence wasn't about to accept no as an answer though. Teddy wasn't looking too good and needed to heal somehow. “I don’t think I’d be able to hurt you too much if I tried, though. You can heal instantly…” Lawrence sat down next to Teddy put his hand out. He knew the siphoning could kill him but he hoped Teddy did not take too much magic, but then Lawrence just had a stake driven through his chest, inches from his heart. A little siphoning wouldn't hurt him. "If you kill me just bury me with the others" He said, glancing over at the dead warlocks, "But please just siphon from me because you're pale as hell, and how are you going to clean this mess up if you can barely pick up a spoon" Lawrence's eyes fell down on his offering hand, wanting Teddy to take up his proposal. “Were you part of a coven?” The vampire was a little surprised by the question, but it was an obvious one to ask. “You mentioned that you hate controlling covens, you have in-depth knowledge about spells and… you know what a siphoner is.” He rubbed his forehand with his fingers vigorously, "Erm..." He paused, perhaps for a little bit too long. Sometimes he becomes lost in situations and forgets he no longer can do magic. It brings him back to reality, crashing hard at times. "Yeah, I was born a witch, and belonged on a small coven in Canada" He explained. It was always hard to admit that out loud. Lawrence couldn't help but notice Teddy's eyes narrow slightly, and he hoped the Teddy didn't distrust him for not mentioning it sooner but it was something he tended to keep to himself. They didn't exactly have time to share personal secrets earlier, whilst fighting off the warlocks. "My parents essentially kicked me out of the Coven when I was turned. They detested vampires" Even though it was their fault he was turned, "They faked my death. Told everyone I died in a hunting accident" Lawrence quickly stopped himself from oversharing with someone he had just met, but there was a part of him that knew Teddy could relate, given the scenes which had just unfolded. "Sounds like your coven fucked you over too?"Back in New Orleans, it was common knowledge that he used to be a witch and he would sometimes help some of the witches in the quarter with spells and rituals. Often he would just do it off his own back because he missed the magic. Throughout the years Lawrence kept on top of his magic knowledge and still studying spells, rituals, and hexes. At first, he was looking for a cure for his vampirism, a search that consumed decades of his life. Eventually, he gave up because realistically if there was a cure out there someone would have found it by now, but his mom's words would sometimes loop in the back of his hand. She told him there was a counterspell for everything, you just have to be smart enough to find it. Was that it? Was he not smart enough to find it? TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ ‘If you kill me just bury me with the others.’
Teddy wanted to laugh. To snort at the comment, at least, but it was all too real to him. He’d killed the woman he loved by taking too much power from her, and he wasn’t about to end this vampire’s life because of that, as well. He supposed it would be much more difficult, but that didn’t matter to him, really. Not when somebody’s life was at stake, no matter how immortal.
He ignored the offering now, instead letting his head roll heavily to the side, eyes attempting to focus on Lawrence’s. He listened to the vampire’s story, and though it was different from Teddy’s in the smallest of ways, the core of it was the same. Your coven disapproving of the way you were, despite it not being your fault. Casting you aside and abandoning you, despite everything more than blood binding you all together. He didn’t want to share too much with the vampire, but he supposed that Lawrence deserved some truth after everything he’d done.
“Yeah,” Teddy puffed out a breath, finding it too difficult to speak and look sideways at the same time. He shifted his head straight again, staring at the wall across from them, trying to breathe through the dizziness. “My mom was the High Priestess of our coven. They wanted a female heir, and they got me. A boy and a siphoner. They detested me, too, but it started from birth.” He sighed, swallowing the bitter taste in his mouth. “They wanted me to have a daughter as soon as possible so that she could be next in line.” Teddy paused, his eyes finding Lawrence’s once more. “Think you can guess how that turned out. Then they kept pushing, and finally I’d had enough. But when I pushed back…” His lips pressed into a hard line. It was too difficult to get out. He didn’t want to admit it at all, let alone to this stranger. Eventually, though, he found the courage. “My wife was killed.”
And though the memory stung endlessly, he needed help now. He had been distracted before━when he’d murdered her. Teddy would only take what he needed now. He silently promised that to himself and Lawrence.
Finally, Teddy took his hand, pulling magic from him. Only a moment or two before he let go, not taking nearly enough to last for more than some quick healing. He couldn’t risk it again, even with a stranger’s life on the balance.
Slowly, Teddy allowed the magic to wash over him, and then heal him with the quiet whispers of a spell. Once he was done, he opened his eyes and leaned forward on the couch, finally taking in the dead bodies on his floor. Teddy frowned, standing and then looking back at Lawrence. “Alright, let’s get this cleaned up.” He spoke, and then got to work, hoping to get the bodies out there as fast as possible before Julian kicked up too much of a fuss.

Obviously, Lawrence was curious as to how Teddy's wife had died, but now wasn't the time and place to ask questions. It was clear the siphoner had been through enough shit for the day. "I'm sorry to hear that" He responded. He didn't really know what else to say. He had never been very good at expressing sympathy. Lawrence had never had anyone siphoner from him before, so he was a little surprised when the sensation felt like burning. He didn't back away though and remained still. When Teddy dropped his hand Lawrence felt no different, questioning whether Teddy had taken enough. He wasn't going to push the subject though because it had taken him long enough to convince Teddy to even siphoner from him. Once the color had returned to Teddy's face, and it was apparent he was feeling better, Lawrence glanced over at the dead bodies. He sighed quietly. It had been a long time since he had cleaned up dead bodies, but here's to old times. The vampire stood up, "I have good tips for cleaning the blood out the carpet" He grinned.
