Antonio still couldn’t believe that Ethan was alive after all but he already knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. The lack of the other guy’s presence in his life was something that he still felt even now and he knew that he didn’t want things to go back to the way they were. He had the girls and the three of them were happy together but there had been something missing from Antonio’s life ever since Ethan had died and he was only now starting to feel like that void was being filled. They had been through so much together before Ethan had died and they’d always had each other’s back no matter what the war they were fighting had thrown at them so he couldn’t deny that it was an incredible feeling knowing that he finally had that back. “I’ve always got your back,” Antonio assured him. He would be the first to admit that he wasn’t good when it came to talking about how he felt or what was bothering him but he didn’t want Ethan to feel like he had to bottle things up. Mystic Falls was an unusual place but it was home and Antonio knew that he wanted his friend to talk to him if he ever needed to. As Ethan spoke again, Antonio couldn’t help but laugh as he started off by saying that it was Audrey Hepburn’s face that he had really wanted to see. “I knew you used to have a crush on her,” he teased, his smile turning playful as he looked over at Ethan despite the slight pang of jealousy that the mere thought instilled within him. It was irrational and he wasn’t too sure what to make of it but it was still there nonetheless. “I’m glad you didn’t have to go through that alone,” he admitted, knowing that there couldn’t have been anything worse. “I knew it,” Antonio chuckled as Ethan said that he wouldn’t have him any other way. They had known each other better than anyone back then and even though so much time had passed since they had last seen each other it was now starting to feel like hardly any time had passed at all. Antonio had already gone through the pain of losing Ethan once so he couldn’t deny that he liked the idea of keeping him close this time around. Offering up the spare room probably wasn’t something that he should have done without talking to the kids but if he had talked to them and then found out that Ethan wasn’t interested then it would have been worse so he knew that it was better to see how he felt about it first. If the girls weren’t comfortable with it then it wouldn’t happen but Antonio had a feeling that they wouldn’t mind helping out the only true friend he’d ever had. “Of course, nothing happens around here without all of us being in agreement,” he nodded. Antonio was the parent and he knew that he could easily make the decisions for all three of them but that wasn’t how he did things. He liked to make sure that the girls were on board too although he did lay down the law when he had to. It didn’t take Ela long to say that she was up for it and that alone was enough to bring a smile to his face. “That’s alright, I put dinner in the oven later. Eli can always reheat hers later, why don’t you join us?” he suggested to Ela. Normally they ate together as a family when they could but if Eli wasn’t going to be back until later then he knew that they might as well go ahead and eat without her. He had thought that she would be back earlier than that but it couldn’t be helped. “I don’t know about that, she’s a lot stronger than I am. They both are,” he admitted as Ela walked away before turning back to look at Ethan. “Come on, let’s get something to eat,” he said as he led the way through to the kitchen. As Ethan asked what he had ended up doing, Antonio’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “I travelled quite a lot, it felt like something I needed to do for both of us after I lost you. Other than that I tried a few different careers before I figured out that I was meant to be a firefighter,” he explained. “How about you?”ETHAN ALVAREZ

━ that's why it sometimes hurts to breathe ━ I’ve always got your back. I knew you used to have a crush on her. I’m glad you didn’t have to go through that alone.
Ethan nodded his head with a knowing smile resting on his lips. "I know." There was a hint of softness in the way he spoke. "And I've always got yours, Toni." Always. Ethan didn't want to think about where he'd have been without him in his life. He helped him in so many ways and he knew that his life would have been complete shit without him. Ethan chuckled at Antonio's playful remark before he rolled his eyes playfully. "You gonna keep exposing me like that, huh? And honestly, who didn't?" Ethan shrugged his shoulders in a careless manner. He smiled a little at his words before he nodded his head in an understanding manner. "Trust me, me too." He didn't want to think about how lonely it would have been without him. How scary it would have been.
I knew it, Of course, nothing happens around here without all of us being in agreement. That’s alright, I put dinner in the oven later. Eli can always reheat hers later, why don’t you join us?
"Yeah okay, don't make me take it back." Ethan warned in a playful manner before he shook his head, his smile returning to his lips at full force. Ethan nodded his head a few times in an agreeing manner at Antonio's words. It made a lot of sense, honestly. It also should be how parent's like. They shouldn't make every decision on their own without asking what their kids thought about it. His parents were like that. His dad made every decision for him because he thought Ethan was incapable of making the right choice. He thought he didn't have it in him to be a 'man' and 'grow up' from that reckless and rebellious phase of his. But that phase stemmed from his desire to be accepted by his parents. To be loved. Ethan kept his quiet as Antonio talked to his daughter, his blue eyes instead scanning his surroundings. "Oh, sure! That sounds good to me." Ela agreed with a grin resting on her lips. She left so that she could prepare some plates and utensils to eat with.
I don’t know about that, she’s a lot stronger than I am. They both are, Come on, let’s get something to eat, I travelled quite a lot, it felt like something I needed to do for both of us after I lost you. Other than that I tried a few different careers before I figured out that I was meant to be a firefighter How about you?
"If I hear you talk yourself down like that again, m'gonna have to punch you. Doesn't matter if you're a firebreathing dragon or not." It pained him how the other didn't seem to believe in himself or see him the way Ethan saw him. "So, no offence but shut up and believe me on this, yeah? When have I ever lied? Okay, uh, don't answer that." Ethan cleared his throat after remembering all those petty lies he'd pushed out of his behind to make himself seem a lot more 'interesting' "Instead, when have I ever lied to you?" Ethan's lips stretched to form a soft smile as he looked at Antonio.
Ethan got up and followed them into the kitchen where Ela had finished prepping the table for all of them and was currently sitting down with her elbows resting on the table. Ethan was quiet as he listened to what he had to say, his heart squeezing painfully. "I... did the same, actually. I traveled, too. It's the only thing that kept me sane, actually." Ethan said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips. "Made me feel like nothing had changed. But the fact that I was travelling alone reminded me that a lot has changed." And it broke his heart. The fact that he couldn't exactly do anything about it. "I tried to find a job that felt... right for me. I didn't want to be a bartender or a barista or any of that. I found my true calling when I saved someone in a burnin' building. It reminded me of how good it feels to do the right thing. But strangely enough, before I went up to save that girl, I asked myself what would Antonio do? And automatically I just... started running up into the fire instead of away from it." Ethan said with a chuckle falling from his lips as he looked away for a moment, his eyes settling on Gabriela, watching the way she was looking at the both of them as if she knew something he didn't. He wasn't sure what.
"That day, I realized what my true calling was. Being a firefighter. Putting myself out there to help people." Ethan said with a small smile resting on his lips. "That's about it, really."

Antonio had made different friends over the course of his life but none of them had ever been as close to him as Ethan had been. It might have been something to do with the fact that they had fought alongside each other for so long he wasn’t sure but either way the guy had come to mean a lot to Antonio and losing him had hurt more than he had ever thought possible. Any moment he felt like he was going to wake up and find that this was all just a dream but even if it was then it was a dream that he never wanted to wake up from. He had done his best to move on with his life after Ethan had died but the truth was that it just hadn’t been the same after that. He had made it through the war but he had lost a part of himself in the process and it was only now that Ethan had literally turned up on his doorstep that he finally felt whole again. It was cliché and Antonio wasn’t completely ready to admit it even to himself just yet but he already felt like a weight had been lifted and he hoped that Ethan would keep his word and end up sticking around. “I know you have,” Antonio nodded, knowing that there wasn’t anyone that he trusted to have his back more than Ethan. They had saved each other’s life more than a few times on the battlefield and even though decades had passed since then he was certain that the bond they shared hadn’t changed. As Ethan spoke again, Antonio couldn’t help but laugh. “If you want to keep it a secret you shouldn’t make it so obvious next time,” he chuckled, a teasing smile forming on his face as he looked over at his friend. He had missed this, the playful banter that had always passed so easily between them, and he knew to make the most of it now that he had the chance to enjoy it once more. He couldn’t blame Ethan for not reaching out, after all he hadn’t exactly been open about what he was back then, but somehow life had brought them back together anyway and Antonio knew that that had to count for something. Rolling his eyes playfully as Ethan warned him not to make him take it back, Antonio’s smile turned genuine as he looked over at the other man. They hadn’t gotten along at first but after they had figured out that they weren’t so different after all they had always been able to tease each other like this and it was something that he had always enjoyed. He knew that family was a touchy subject for Ethan after what his life with his parents had been like but the guy truly did have a family in the three of them and Antonio hoped that he would remember that. They had become brothers on the battlefield and he knew that there was no way that he was going to turn his back on the guy now. Having him stay with them would make it that much easier for Antonio to remind him of that but it would only happen if Eli was on board too and if she wasn’t then he knew that he would just have to settle for seeing Ethan when he could. Either way he knew that they would figure something out but right now they needed something to eat and Antonio sent a smile in his daughter’s direction as she agreed to eat with them. Had Eli been back in time then they would have all eaten together but as it was it would just be the three of them. Antonio had been fortunate enough to grow up with both of his parents around him while the girls only had him so he often found himself admiring the strength that the two of them possessed and it was easy for him to voice that but he was a little surprised by Ethan’s remark. “Alright, I won’t argue,” Antonio said, holding his hands up in a gesture of surrender before feeling a smirk form on his face as Ethan asked when he had ever lied. “I don’t think you want me to,” he teased before considering it as Ethan asked when he had ever lied to him. “You haven’t,” he conceded, knowing from the look on Ethan’s face that they weren’t going to see eye to eye on that anyway. Leading the way through to the kitchen, Antonio checked on the food before grabbing some plates from the cupboard. He was aware of Ela sitting at the table watching, he always seemed to know where the girls were when they were in the same place, but it didn’t bother him and he set about pouring drinks for the three of them before dishing up the food, listening intently to Ethan as he did so. “I’m glad I had a positive influence on you.” he chuckled, an easy smile forming on his face as he paused for a moment and looked over at Ethan. “You didn’t need to think of me to make that decision though, you’ve always done right by those around you,” he added. He had always gone above and beyond to keep others safe and that was something that Antonio knew wouldn’t change. “I’m glad you found what you were meant to do,” he said sincerely. It was a shame that they hadn’t managed to travel together like they had planned but now they had their whole lives ahead of them so perhaps at some point all four of them could see the world together. ━ that's why it sometimes hurts to breathe ━ Ethan rolled his eyes playfully at Antonio's remark. He'd been one hormonal guy once upon a time until he was forced to go to war and that was when he grew up. When he realized that he needed to be a man in order to survive. But those days had always been the best for him. He'd always been a charming guy. Was able to woo any woman he wanted with a single smile. But then, those things stopped mattering to him. Even with Ava, he didn't feel anything when they kissed. He didn't feel anything with her.
Ethan felt a small smile when Antonio didn't argue with him. "Wise choice. I heard phoenixes can be very angry when they wanna be." Ethan teased with a smirk on his lips as he looked over at him. He cleared his throat at his best friend's next words. "Okay, okay, I get it." Ethan rolled his eyes before he let out a chuckle. Though when he heard Antonio's next words, a soft smile formed on his lips. "That's right." He smiled. He'd always been honest with Antonio. He knew more about him than his parents ever did. As sad as it sounded, unfortunately.
I’m glad I had a positive influence on you. You didn’t need to think of me to make that decision though, you’ve always done right by those around you. I’m glad you found what you were meant to do.
Ethan felt a small smile form on his lips at Antonio's words. "Me too." He said in a soft voice. "Trust me, I did. Sometimes, I just... freeze, I guess." Ethan admitted with a sigh falling from his lips. "I guess I just needed a push and remembering you gives me that push. To be brave, I guess." His voice was still soft as he spoke. "I guess you're the only one who ever believed in me like that. Thank you." Ethan's lips stretched to form a small smile and he meant every little thing. "I do hope we can... like.. get the chance to travel somewhere." Ethan said with a quick nod of his head following. "Like we always wanted." He added a moment later, his voice still soft. "One day." He understood that Antonio had his own family now. He understood how much this meant to him, so he wasn't going to take that away from him.

Antonio had grown up thinking that one day he would find the right woman, fall in love, settle down and start a family of his own. Two of those things had happened but not necessarily in the way that he had thought they might. His parents were incredibly old fashioned given that they were literally born centuries ago and it had taken them a while to get their heads around the fact that he and Samara weren’t married when the girls were born but the truth was that relationship had never been right for him, in fact none of his previous relationships had been. He had yet to find that special person and he wasn’t sure if he ever would. Ethan was the person that he had ended up getting closest to but the guy was his brother and Antonio knew that that was very different. He had the girls at least and now he had his best friend back in his life too so he knew that he was still pretty lucky. “Oh really? I guess I’d better remember not to get on the wrong side of you then,” Antonio chuckled. He still wasn’t sure how their two species were supposed to be enemies when to him Ethan was one of the easiest people for him to be around in the world with Ela and Eli being the other two. A playful smile formed on his face at Ethan’s next words and he rolled his eyes playfully. Ethan had been known to lie to those around him on occasion but he was right when he’d said that there hadn’t been any lies between the two of them. Antonio had kept what he was a secret from Ethan but that had been because he hadn’t confided in anyone about what he was before. Samara had made him realise that it was ok to open up sometimes and it was so much easier knowing that Ethan was not only also supernatural but immortal like Antonio was too. “Now who’s the one putting himself down? You’re braver than you give yourself credit for,” Antonio assured him. He had seen it time and time again while they were at war but it wouldn’t surprise him if Ethan wasn’t able to see it himself. “I’m always going to believe in you,” he vowed. Ethan had earned that a long time ago and nothing had happened to change that. They’d always looked out for each other. As Ethan said that he hoped they got the chance to travel one day like they’d wanted, Antonio felt a smile form on his face. “I hope so too. The four of us might even get to go somewhere together,” he nodded, knowing that it would be better if they were all there together rather than him spending his time worrying about the girls even if they were both much older by that point. As he finished dishing up the food he set the empty dishes down on the side and placed the plate with Eli’s meal on it back in the oven to keep it warm. “I hope you’re both hungry,” he said as he picked up two of the plates and carried them over to the table. “Do you mind giving me a hand with the drinks?” he asked, hoping that either Ethan or Ela wouldn’t mind grabbing them while he returned for the other plate after setting the first down in front of Ela and the second in the place that she had made up for Ethan. ━ that's why it sometimes hurts to breathe ━ Oh really? I guess I’d better remember not to get on the wrong side of you then, Now who’s the one putting himself down? You’re braver than you give yourself credit for,
Ethan chuckled at Antonio's words before he puffed his chest in an exaggerating manner. "Better not. I can be quite merciless." He teased with a grin forming on his lips shortly after saying that to show that he was messing around. It felt so nice to be back to this banter that seemed to be going back and forth between the two of them. Ethan was quiet for a moment as he looked at Antonio, blue eyes focused solely on him. He didn't protest as he slowly nodded his head. "Thank you." He said with a half-smile forming on his lips. "Feels nice to hear you say these things again. Always knew how to lift my spirits up. Even back then." Where it was just too damn hard to crack a smile or a joke.
I’m always going to believe in you, I hope so too. The four of us might even get to go somewhere together,
Ethan was quiet as he stared at Antonio, his lips parting and closing a few times, unsure how to respond to Antonio's vow. It was more than enough to make his heart speed up in his chest. His lips formed a genuine smile after a little bit of time of just staring at Antonio before he whispered a soft "thank you," he said with a small smile on his lips. "That means a lot to me, Toni." Ethan smiled at the idea of going on a trip with Antonio and his family. "That sounds like the dream." Ethan said with a soft smile resting on his lips.
Ethan looked up at Antonio before he chuckled. "I think my stomach answered that for the both of us a little bit ago." He said after a chuckle as he drummed his fingers on the table top. When Antonio asked for help with the drinks, he pushed himself up. "No, it's okay, stay. I got this." Ethan assured Ela when he saw her prepare to get up as well. "Thank you." The younger said. "No problem at all." He assured as he moved to grab the drinks. "There we go." He said upon grabbing them in his hands. He headed over to the table to prop them there. Ethan made sure they also had glasses to go along with the drink.
He made his way back to the seat. "Uh, bon apple teeth?" Ela chuckled at Ethan's words before she nodded her head a few times. "Bon apple teeth." She repeated, making Ethan laugh this time around as he picked up his fork so he could start digging in. "Got work tomorrow, Toni?"

It was strange to think back to the way things were with Ethan at first. They hadn't gotten along at all and for a while Antonio hadn't known if that would ever change but in the end they had realised that they weren't so different after all. After that things had been so much easier and Antonio had never felt more comfortable around anyone outside of his immediate family than he did with Ethan. That was something that had been missing from his life for far too long and Antonio knew that he wanted to make the most of it while he could. As Ethan said that he could be merciless, Antonio couldn't help but laugh. "I remember. You can be quite ruthless when you want to be," he teased. Never around him though, he always seemed to get to see a different side to Ethan than the one that he showed everyone else. "You always made it easy to cheer you up," Antonio said, a playful smile forming on his face. They'd looked out for each other back then and he really hadn't had to try too hard to lift his friend's spirits. Telling Ethan that he believed in him was something that came naturally to Antonio. He knew that the guy hadn't had a great relationship with his parents so love and encouragement weren't things that he had come across too often but Antonio loved him as a brother, or at least he was pretty sure that was how he felt about Ethan anyway, and he always tried to encourage the guy when he could. "It's true," Antonio said, a soft smile forming on his face as he looked over at his friend. As he said that the four of them going on a trip together sounded like the dream, his smile widened. "Hopefully we'll be able to make it happen one day." He hadn't managed to take the girls overseas yet but he hoped that one day they would get the chance. It wasn't much longer before dinner was ready and both Ethan and Ela were quick to offer their assistance when he asked for it. "Thanks," he said, offering Ethan a smile as he grabbed the drinks and set them down on the table as Antonio returned with the last plate. Taking his seat, Antonio couldn't help but laugh as Ethan spoke again. "I haven't heard that for a long time," he chuckled, suddenly recalling all of the times that his friend had said that just before they ate in the past. "Bon apple teeth," he said, an amused smile forming as he began to tuck into his meal. As Ethan asked if he had work tomorrow, Antonio shook his head. "No, I have the day off. How about you?"ETHAN ALVAREZ

━ that's why it sometimes hurts to breathe ━ I remember. You can be quite ruthless when you want to be, You always made it easy to cheer you up
Ethan chuckled at Antonio's words before he shrugged his shoulders. "I had a lot of pent-up anger." He teased but it was also the truth in a way or the other. He'd always been an angry kid growing up who perhaps took to violence way more times that he could count just because it was easier to punch than it was to talk about feelings. Ethan looked at Antonio for a few moments before a soft smile formed on his lips and he shook his head. "Nah, man. I guess you just knew me that well." And it was the truth in a way. Not many people knew how to cheer him up. He was really the only one who ever made him smile when things got really hard and honestly? It was always so damn hard back then. His desire to go home was too huge for quite some time. He didn't want to fight. Didn't want to risk his life for this but seeing Antonio's sense of purpose and how determined he was to do the right thing pushed Ethan onto the right path. He would have been desperately stuck if it weren't for him.
It's true, Hopefully we'll be able to make it happen one day.
Ethan felt a small smile touch his lips at Antonio's words before he nodded his head, hoping for the same thing. It would mean a lot to him to be able to travel with Antonio like they had always wanted. He never thought it would be possible again. Thought he had outlived the other but that was far from the truth. He was still alive and he was a dragon of all things. Truth be told, Ethan really wanted to know more about dragons but he wanted to keep that conversation to the side for now. He wanted to enjoy this opportunity to eat with Antonio and his daughter without showering the man with too many questions at once.
Thanks, I haven't heard that for a long time. Bon apple teeth. No, I have the day off. How about you?
Ethan shrugged his shoulders when Antonio thanked him. "It's nothing." He said with a gentle smile on his lips as he worked on putting the drinks down. Ethan chuckled when he heard Antonio's words. "Old habits die hard." Ethan said with a grin resting on his lips. "I just like flaunting that little bit of French in me wherever I can, y'know?" Ethan acted cocky and shrugged his shoulders.
"Oh, really? Same, actually." Ethan was surprised to see their schedules matched in a way. "D'you wanna like, go out tomorrow or somethin'? I have no idea where if I'm being honest, I just don't wanna spend it at home and have to listen to my neighbors through these incredibly thin walls." He asked after a moment or two of silence before he picked his fork to dig back into his meal.

Antonio was fortunate to have grown up surrounded by two parents who loved him but it had taken a while for a true connection to be formed between them. His parents were afraid to get too close to him out of fear of losing him the same way they had the rest of their children that they'd had before him but eventually they had realised that he was different. Antonio too had found it difficult to let anyone get really close to him, his parents had told him what he was while he was young and he had grown up knowing how important it was to keep that secret but Ethan was the exception. Antonio hadn't told the guy what he was back then but he had let Ethan get closer to him than anyone else ever had. A connection had formed between him and Ethan before he had even realised it and Antonio was devastated when the guy died. He had already gone through the pain of losing Ethan once and he knew that he never wanted to go through that again. "I think we all did back then," Antonio chuckled. It was a very different time back then, nothing like the one that they lived in now, and it had been easy to be consumed by anger but things were better now and for that he was grateful. As Ethan spoke again, Antonio felt a smile form on his face. "I still know you that well, or at least I hope I do anyway," Antonio said, hoping that he was right. It had been a long time since they had last seen each other but they had known each other better than anyone back then and he hoped that they still did. Ethan had become his brother back then and that hadn't changed. He was still family and the thought of him staying at the motel on town didn't really sit right with Antonio. He knew that nothing could happen without Eli's consent as well but with any luck the guy wouldn't be staying there for too much longer and he couldn't deny that he liked the idea of Ethan staying close. Travelling together was something that they had both wanted but that chance was taken from them when Ethan died. Now they had the chance to do things differently and he hoped that they would get the chance to do everything that they had planned on back then although with any luck this time they would be able to do those things with the girls as well. As Ethan spoke again, Antonio rolled his eyes playfully. "If we do get to go France remind me to teach you French first so you don't go offending the locals," he teased, pretty sure that it wouldn't go down too well if Ethan went around saying things like that. Taking a bite of his meal, Antonio had half expected Ethan to say that he was working tomorrow so it was a nice surprise to learn that he wasn't although he wasn't expecting Ethan to suggest they spend some time together. "Sure, that would be great," he nodded as he took a sip of his drink. "I can show you around and then we can do something if you like," he offered, not sure how much of the town that Ethan had seen so far. ETHAN ALVAREZ

he thought about wanting to feel like he had been made for something more than dying.

━ that's why it sometimes hurts to breathe ━ I think we all did back then. i still know you that well, or at least I hope I do anyway,
Ethan nodded his head a few times in a silent agreement before his lips finally parted. "Yeah, you're definitely not wrong there. Remember that uh, guy his name was.. Bernard? The guy I kinda punched in the face? Now that guy had some serious issues. I mean, it's fine to have issues. To feel angry because you should. You're basically sent out to... die. There was just no guarantee that you would.. y'know.. come back. But I think directing it away from the people you're supposed to fight with should've been his first step." Ethan said with a sigh falling from his lips as he shook his head, remembering how Bernard had met his end. A bullet straight through the head. Took him out quickly.
No suffering. No fear. Just gone. Was it like that for him, too? It was a little blurry for him, honestly. Maybe it was just the adrenaline, maybe it was the intensity of his injuries. He wasn't too sure. But back then, he didn't feel anything. Didn't hear anything. It was all so horrifyingly quiet even though Antonio's lips had been moving. But then again, the reason he punched Bernard wasn't because of his anger. It was because of someone he'd said about Antonio behind his back. Something about hearing him degrade his best friend like that made something snap in him. He didn't really tell anyone why he'd punched the fucker. Ethan's blue eyes refocused on Antonio, his words making his lips stretch to form a small smile on his lips. "I don't think I've changed at all. I'm still the same guy just with two deaths under his belt." Of course, he took the chance to bring it up again as he smiled, looking all too pleased with himself all things considered.
If we do get to go France remind me to teach you French first so you don't go offending the locals, Sure, that would be great, I can show you around and then we can do something if you like,
Ethan gasped as if offended by Antonio's words. "Excuse me? I think you're just jealous because the locals are going to fall in love with me right away." He shrugged his shoulders with a pleased little smile on his lips which turned into a grin later on. "I mean, what's there not to love 'bout me, right?" Ethan teased with a grin resting on his lips.
His eyes lit up almost comically at Antonio's offer. "Yeah?" His lips stretched to form a soft smile. "I'd be more than happy to do that." He said with a quick nod of his head following. "I haven't had the chance to look around that much yet, so it'd definitely be appreciated." Ethan said in a soft voice as he picked his fork to take another bite from his meal.
"I heard the Grill here is kinda like, a big thing? Is that true or is it just town talk?" Ethan inquired, one brow quirked as he moved the glass to his lips to take a sip from his drink.
