The threat that Dahlia posed still had yet to pass but Henrik had been doing everything he could in order to protect his family. He hadn't for one moment thought that the spell he had been working on would react badly with Dahlia's magic the way it had done and now Henrik could still feel the magic hanging over the town. Not only had his own kids and niece been turned into sixteen year olds over night but a lot of other kids around the town had been too. Henrik had been trying to figure out exactly how it had happened ever since then but he still had yet to put the pieces together and he hadn't been able to locate his aunt yet either. There wasn't a doubt in his mind that she was coming for the kids so in a way it was a relief to know that they could look after themselves now but Dahlia still knew more magic than he had been able to teach them so far so he knew better than to take that for granted. When this was all over Henrik wasn't even sure if he could turn the kids back into babies or if he should do so. It was something that he had talked to Olivia about before and he had also discussed it with Ric since a lot of the kids that were affected had ended up at the school. At the moment he wasn't sure what the best thing to do would be but he knew that it wasn't really his decision to make or even that of the rest of the parents, when all was said and done it would come down to what the kids wanted and no matter what Henrik knew that he would respect their decision. Until then he had other things on his mind as well, he had taken a job at the Salvatore School teaching advanced magic to the students and he still spent some evenings working with Olivia at the bar as well. It was a lot at times but it meant that he got to experience the best of both worlds as he got to work with Olivia and keep an eye on the kids as well. Henrik knew that he had made some mistakes over the course of his life so far and some might see his spell backfiring as being a big mistake but as far as Henrik was concerned he had the chance to get to know his kids now and still have some memories of them while they were growing up even if those memories weren't necessarily real. They were still real to him and Henrik knew better than to take his time with his family for granted. There had been a few things that had been playing on his mind lately more than anything else and one of those things was time. It wasn't lost on Henrik that he was born over a thousand years ago but had only ended up living for just over twenty years so far. Olivia had stopped herself ageing a long time ago and other than Freya his siblings were all immortal as well. The kids carried the kitsune gene so they could stop themselves ageing when they were older if they wanted to but it wasn't that way for Henrik. He still got older with each passing day and that had been playing on his mind a lot lately. He had talked to Lukas about it and his brother had helped him figure out a way to make himself immortal but he knew that he wasn't going to go through with it without talking to Olivia first. Henrik knew what he wanted their future to look like in more ways than one but he needed to make sure that they were both on he same page. That was why he had ended up cooking dinner for the two of them and he had made sure that they had the house to themselves and he was just taking dinner out of the oven when he heard the front door open. "Hey, I'm in the kitchen," he called out to her as he used his magic to light the candles on the table and started dishing up the food. "I hope you're hungry."OLIVIA CAMPBELL

Finishing up early at the bar wasn’t something she’d done much in the early days. From opening to closing she’d be right there at the bar. It was her place, she’d been so proud of it and its success had become a measure of how far she’d come from that terrified woman who’d escaped from the village that had been her home, leaving her husband’s body behind with the men who had killed him for trying to help them.
Looking out at the bar as she dried her hands on a towel now, Olivia knew it had been the right move. Mystic Falls had become so far more than just another fresh spot on the map for her. She’d found family here again, had fallen in love, brought two incredible children into the world. It was so much more than she ever could’ve imagined. At some point in all of that, between the midnight feedings in those early months and the backlash of the spell Henrik had cast to protect the kids from his Aunt Dahlia, a woman who had apparently managed to tear the family apart a thousand years ago in wrenching a dreadful price from her sister for gifting her with a child, she’d realised that the bar had done what it was always supposed to have done. It had given her a place of peace and those in the town who needed one too.
Now she was leaving her staff to continue doing that for the night. Evenings now were mostly spent at home with Henrik and the kids. Her order pad and apron hung up for the night in time to settle in with her family. Patting her bartender-in-charge for the night on the shoulder, Olivia headed for the door. ”You know where I am if you need me,” she told him with a grin, lifting her hand in a wave as she headed for the door. ”See you tomorrow!” Stepping out into the air she pulled her jacket close around her throat. The nights were getting colder now, the sun going down faster. Her breath plumed into the air but it hadn’t stopped some hardy drinkers from sitting out on the porch, huddled around the heaters, some wrapped in the blankets she left out there for just that purpose. A few waved to her but Olivia was already heading down the stairs and over to her car.
Her eyes were watchful on the roads as she drove towards the house, not just for the local wildlife but for signs of what else might be coming in this town. Things had gone bad for them on the streets of Mystic Falls before, her own death occurring not a mile from here. It left a woman a little watchful. She managed to get back to the house without any sign of trouble tonight, shrugging off that anxiety as she pulled her car up outside. The lights were on, Henrik and the kids were likely home already. The thought brought a smile to her face as she opened the door and stepped inside. Warmth spread over her as she shed her coat and hung it up, the same happening in the pit of her stomach as she stepped into the kitchen and found Henrik busy dishing up tonight. ”Hi,” she murmured, leaning in to kiss him before she drew back to look at the table. ”Starving! This seems pretty fancy for dinner with the kids. What are you up to?” Olivia mock narrowed her eyes, studying his face before she let out a chuckle. Definitely something, especially since the kids hadn’t come thundering down the stairs at the sound of her getting home.

Henrik had done a lot of things that he wasn’t proud of over the course of his life, after all it was his desire to see the men turn into wolves during the full moon that had caused his siblings to become the world’s first vampires and it was down to his spell reacting badly with one that his aunt had cast that had made so many of the children around town to become teenagers over night but he was doing his best to do right by as many people as possible. He loved working with Olivia at the bar but there was something about teaching at the Salvatore School that made him feel like he was doing something good with his life. There were a lot who associated the Mikaelson name with only doing the wrong thing but that wasn’t Henrik, Crowley had given him a second chance at life and both Hannah and Cass had given him a third and he knew that he wasn’t going to waste it. He knew that he was lucky, after all he had found Olivia and they had two amazing children together and he also had most of his family around him. He had freed Rebekah, Kol and Finn from their coffins and things were going much better than he had ever thought they would be. He had been thinking about it a lot lately and with all of his family aside from Freya already immortal and Lukas being exactly the same he knew what he wanted to do but he had to talk to Olivia about it first. That was one of the reasons why he had made sure that they would have the house to themselves for the evening so that they could have some time alone. It was natural for the kids to take a lot of their focus but Henrik knew that his relationship with Olivia was just as important. He knew that they’d had different experiences in their lives so far, after all Olivia had already been married once and it was clear to him that she still loved George but he had fallen in love with Olivia without even realising it and he knew that it was the same for her. She was the reason he had given himself over to the angels willingly when they had come for him, so that she and their children could live, and he knew that he would do everything in his power to make her happy. A meal for just the two of them might not seem like much and Henrik knew that he could have easily gone for something much more than that but it would give them the chance to talk and that was what they needed so he knew that it wasn’t a bad thing. “Hey,” Henrik said, a hand resting against her cheek as he kissed her back. “I’m not up to anything,” Henrik said, as innocent a look as he could muster forming on his face as he finished dishing up the food and popped the cork on a bottle of wine. “It’s just the two of us tonight, I hope that’s alright,” he added as he poured two glasses and held one out to Olivia. He knew that she looked forward to spending time with the kids when she got home just as much as he did but some alone time for the two of them was definitely long overdue. OLIVIA CAMPBELL

Having a routine had felt good. Knowing that she came every night to a man she loved and their two incredible kids had felt amazing. She knew that some of those memories were the result of the spell that had taken their kids from babies to sixteen year olds in the blink of an eye but so many of them they’d forged together as a family. Something she’d never expected to have after she’d lost George. Henrik had opened her heart again and while she hadn’t expected to fall pregnant the way she had or lose him for a time during her pregnancy, Olivia knew she would never regret a moment of the time they’d had together. They were her life.
It made it a million times easier to hand over the responsibility of the bar to someone else when day turned to evening. A family waiting at home for her had a lightness in Olivia’s step as she headed out of the bar to her car, a grin on her face at the other end when she pulled up outside the house.
This really was the best part of the day now, even that little voice in the back of her head that had warned that something might happen at the bar so loudly every night after she’d opened long since quieted. If there was any trouble her staff could handle it and if they couldn’t, they had her and the Sheriff’s station on speed dial. Anything sort of that they wouldn’t bother her until the first of them trailed in tomorrow to give her a blow by blow of the night before.
She had been watchful on the way home as she always was and strained her ears for the sounds of the kids as she stepped into the house but it had all been quiet. Perhaps too quiet here. Kicking off her shoes in the hallway, she padded into the kitchen, her hazel eyes already narrowing up at him as she leaned it to kiss Henrik. A low hum slipped out of her throat as she settled a hand on his hip for a moment. ”I believe that about as much from you as I do the kids,” Olivia warned him with a faint chuckle to her voice. She honestly didn’t know how her mum had dealt with twelve of them, even with her oldest sisters big enough to help with the rest of them. It was a marvel that always left her with that fond ache in her chest for her mother and her childhood.
Still pretending to mock watch him Olivia made her way over to the sink, washing her hands and drying them up again. The bottle of wine and that butter wouldn’t melt look on his face should’ve told her that the kids weren’t here. Henrik had been scheming in some way to get them a night alone with what looked like an incredible dinner. She hung the towel again, trailed back to him to take the glass of wine from him. ”A date night in the middle of the week. I’m not going to complain about that.” A grin curved her lips as she took a sip from her glass. ”Which one of your brothers and sisters did you ship them off to for the evening?” There’d definitely been some plan at work. This … this took some work. Pressing her lips together, she slipped into a seat at the table, setting the glass of wine down beside her plate. ”This looks incredible. If I knew you were this talented in the kitchen I’d have gotten you cooking more often.” She winked at him, curling her feet beneath her seat as she took another sip of her wine.

There were times when Henrik still couldn’t believe that the family that he and Olivia had built together was really theirs. He knew that this wasn’t the way that his life was meant to have ended up, he had died a thousand years ago and his story should have ended there but Crowley had given him another chance at life and not a day went by when Henrik wasn’t grateful to him for that. He had reunited with his family and Castiel, he had fallen in love with Olivia and they were blessed with two incredible children. He knew that things were complicated considering that the spell he had cast to protect the kids from Dahlia had backfired and caused not just their kids and Hope but so many others around Mystic Falls to become teenagers over night but they still had memories of the time they had spent with the kids while they were growing up and he couldn’t deny that he was enjoying getting to know the people that they had become. He knew that it was a lot to take in for all of them but even with everything that had happened Henrik was happy and he hoped that they all were too. Normally they had a family dinner when Olivia got home from work if she had a shift and he didn’t but that day Henrik had planned something a little different. The kids were out of the house and they had the place to themselves for the night and he knew that he wanted to make the most of it while it lasted. Henrik loved the twins dearly but he couldn’t deny that he missed being able to spend some time alone with Olivia now and then so he knew that they were going to have to make a point of doing this more often. He did have an ulterior motive, there were a couple of things that he wanted to talk to her about but he knew that that could wait for a bit. Kissing Olivia back, a chuckle escaped his lips at her words. “So distrustful, I have no idea why,” he teased, his smile amused as he looked over at her. Taking a sip of his drink, he handed Olivia’s glass to her once she had washed her hands. “We don’t do this anywhere near often enough,” he admitted. They had the kids now so things were different to the way they used to be but one thing that hadn’t changed was how he felt about Olivia and he knew that the last thing he wanted was for their relationship to end up being buried under everything else that was going on. “Elijah and Tatia have them for the night, I’m sure they’ll love it,” he grinned, knowing that it was sure to be interesting to say the least. Her next words were enough to make him laugh once more. “You have Elijah to thank for this as well, he taught me a few things while were living together,” he admitted. While he was living in Hell it had been easier to have the demons bring food to him but after he moved to Mystic Falls he had starting picking up a thing or two. “I hope you’re hungry,” he said as he slipped into his seat and took another sip of his drink. It had taken so long to open her heart back up after what had happened with George. Decades of running, of fear, of loneliness and grief. Not allowing her heart to open back up to anybody else, despite the fact that she knew he would have wanted her to. It hadn’t been just love holding her back, it had been fear of what she could lose if she did allow herself to open her heart again. Staying alone was a thousand times easier than feeling that pain crush her heart again. So she had stayed that way, lonely and longing and telling herself that she was happy that way until she had brushed up against Henrik when Crowley had sent him to do a job. That first meeting had knocked her shields askew, allowed her the hope that she could settle down somewhere and start to live again.
Of course the universe had its own plans there and in doing so Olivia had found herself with more than just a home. She found herself with him, battling that grief when those in Heaven who didn’t like the idea of him having escaped took Henrik from her for a time. Longing for him when she discovered amongst all of that pain that they were expecting. Believing what he had written in that letter to her, that he would find her again. She hadn’t trusted, not really, not until they had been able to raise a rescue effort.
Now that trust went soul deep but it didn’t mean that she wasn’t going to call Henrik on his sneaky ways. Hazel eyes were narrowed to slits as she looked up at him. Fingers flexing on his hip as she chuckled. ”Uh huh,” she drawled lightly. ”I think there’s enough evidence for the jury to be out on me believing that you’re entirely innocent tonight.” She gave a little growl, just to prove that she still wanted to know exactly what he was up to. She was reaching for the glad he handed her as she dried her hands though.
Olivia’s grin softened as she shook her head. Having kids changed your life hugely, having kids that grew into teenagers just a short time after they were born changed your life beyond recognition. Not that she would swap any of this for the world. ”Maybe we should do it more often. You’ve got plenty of family in town that the kids can stay with,” she teased. Her own was an entire ocean away, not close enough to be here with her but she had others that had been as close. ”Or I’m sure Nick and Lauren would be glad to help out for the two of us to have a night together.” Lauren would tease her far harder for it though. Heat came to her cheeks at the thought and warmed her laugh as Henrik assured her that the kids were with Elijah and Tatia. His family had been there for the two of them through everything.
She sipped from her glass, her own eyes innocent as she peeped over the glass. ”We should probably make the most of it, they might be dropping them off sooner than anticipated.” It wouldn’t happen of course, Elijah was too well mannered to admit that the kids had driven them absolutely nuts. Olivia tapped her finger against her glass as she sat down and sighed happily, he’d certainly pushed the boat out tonight. ”Starving,” she admitted picking up her knife and fork. ”I’ve got a lot to thank your brother for. What’s the going rate for cooking lessons and taking the kids for the night?” She had so much to thank his family for as it was and there was still that sneaking suspicion in the pit of her stomach that there was far more to tonight than she knew about quite yet.

Henrik could see just how suspicious Olivia was and the truth was that he couldn’t blame her. It wasn’t very often at all that they got a night alone together but it was something that Henrik knew they needed to make sure happened much more often. They had the kids now and he knew just how important it was to spend time with them and be there for them but he also knew that his relationship with Olivia couldn’t take a toll. They loved each other so much and that was something that Henrik had never felt about anyone else before so he knew that he didn’t want to take it for granted. He knew that it was different for Olivia, she had been married before and he knew that George would always have a special place in her heart but Henrik never doubted the love that she felt for him as well. He had tried reaching out to George while he was on the Other Side but for some reason Henrik hadn’t been able to contact him and after Olivia and the others got him back from the angels he had found that George had moved on and found peace. It had meant that the two of them were free to be together without feeling guilty and that was something that Henrik was making the most of. That evening he had made dinner for the two of them and Henrik couldn’t help but laugh as she spoke. “Can’t a guy just do something nice for his girlfriend every once in a while?” he chuckled, his tone light and teasing as he spoke. He did have ulterior motives but he knew that he didn’t want to dive into those straight away. They had been through so much already but Henrik knew now that he had found the place where he belonged and he knew that he would do anything to keep it that way. “It’s like you read my mind,” he said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Olivia. “We’ll definitely have to make this a more regular thing.” The kids and their family was important but Henrik knew that they needed to make time for their relationship as well and he hoped that this was a good way to start. Olivia was right when she said that they had plenty of family to count on he knew that he needed to ask for help a little more often. “They won’t, Elijah promised that they would keep them for the whole night,” he assured her as he took a sip of his drink, knowing that there was no way that his brother would change his mind. Dishing up the food, Henrik sat down once that was done and shook his head as Olivia asked what the going rate was for what Elijah had done. “I was too scared to ask,” he chuckled. He knew that Elijah wouldn’t actually ask him for anything but Henrik still knew that his brother could if he wanted to and it would be worth it. “So how was your day?” he asked as he took a bite of his food, knowing that he at least wanted to find out that much first. The trust that she had immediately found in Henrik at their first meeting had been a bedrock she could build her life on. She could’ve kept herself separate even after she’d moved here, being one of those in town who kept some major part of themselves hidden from those around them. A friendly bar owner who opened up her space for them all, but one who walled herself off the moment the doors were closed. Carrying on living the way she had done since George had died. That had all changed with Henrik though. He had been more than the family she had in Nick, Lauren, Luke and the kids. When he’d opened up his heart to her that night in her apartment, he’d thrown open a door and Olivia knew she could never have closed it, not even in those early days when she’d been tentative still, trying to take things in small steps for her and for him.
Alice and Connor had entirely changed that, even before they were born. Trust and love had transformed everything for her. Some part of her was still suspicious of things out there, she could never lose that entirely after all that had happened, but she could use that now to have Henrik laughing as she narrowed a look in his direction. Olivia hummed lightly, shaking her head slowly even as she started to grin. ”Not without her wondering exactly what he’s up to. I think Ares’ paranoia is starting to rub off on me.” She wasn’t about to lock him up in an interrogation room to get the truth out of him though. The truth would could out eventually and Olivia was pretty sure it would be something that would have her heart melting for him, the way it always did.
They had always been able to tell what the other was thinking in a way, what they needed. Their bond unshakable through so much. It was just a part of what made them work together she supposed, that ability to know without words. Olivia’s smile slanted, her fingers coming up to tap at her temple. ”It’s a girlfriend’s special power,” she teased. ”Whenever we can. You’ve got enough brothers and sisters that we can hand the kids around pretty well to make it happen too.” Soon enough they would be old enough to stay home for a night on their own but she suspected that with the threat from Dahlia neither one of them was going to be comfortable letting them do that without family around. Tatia and Elijah would do everything possible to keep the kids safe, the others, even Lauren and Nick too, would do the same. Lifting her other hand, Olivia crossed her fingers. ”I’d say he might have a few white hairs by the time he brings them back…” It wasn’t physical possible, but she imagined it might be a mental thing by tomorrow.
It was giving them the night though, something she was hugely grateful for. Elijah’s next drink was certainly going to have to be on the house. Olivia settled down at the table, curling her feet under the chair as she started to happily tuck in. Her brows rose, her smile broadening again as she asked what the price for tonight really was. ”I don’t imagine Elijah will keep you in the dark for too long.” She was winking as she let out a happy little sound at the first mouthful though. It was incredible. ”So much better now,” Olivia admitted, diving in for a second forkful. ”Busy. We had a tour group come in at lunch time. You would have loved all the old ladies getting giggly over their glasses of wine. How was your day? How are the classes going?” It would be a lie to say she didn’t miss having him at the bar quite so much as she had done.

It wasn’t lost on Henrik that this wasn’t a chance that he should have had. He was only thirteen when he died and he had spent a thousand years in Heaven while his family continued to roam the Earth or, in his mother’s case, while she was stuck on the Other Side. During that time his only companion had been Castiel considering that all of the other angels had thought that he was no better than his siblings and blamed him for what had happened after he died and he knew that it would have continued like that had Crowley not brought him back to life. He knew that the demon had done so for his own gain, Crowley had wanted to make sure that he had some leverage over his family but in the end they had both ended up getting something that they hadn’t realised they had needed – they had become family. It seemed strange to think that an angel and a demon were fathers to him more than his own ever had been but that was the reality of the situation. Had it not been for the two of them then he knew that he wouldn’t be here and he also knew that he wouldn’t be the person that he was today. The idea of becoming a father himself had scared him in the beginning but in the end he had realised that he actually had two pretty good role models and his relationship with his mother had always been good as well not to mention he had the rest of his family around him so he knew that he was incredibly lucky. The one person who had been there for him more than anyone else, though, was Olivia. Henrik knew that he wasn’t her first love but she was his and after she and the others fought to get him back from the angels that had taken him he had searched for George only to find out that the man had found peace at last. Henrik knew that he was never going to be able to take George’s place but what he and Olivia had truly was special and he loved the life that they were building together. The kids had been affected by the spell that he had cast and there were times when he still found it difficult to get his head around the fact that they were teenagers now but he loved getting to know the people that they had become and he hoped that Olivia did as well. “I guess I’ll have to have words with Ares, he’s paranoid enough for all of us at times,” Henrik chuckled. He didn’t mean it, after all he actually liked the guy but he knew that the last thing he wanted was for Olivia to start worrying about anything. He knew that he had kept certain things from her in the past like what he was really up to when he left town to go and break Castiel out of Hell but ever since then he had been doing his best to be more honest with her and he hoped that she didn’t have any reason to doubt him. “I’ll take your word for that,” he grinned as Olivia said that reading his mind was a girlfriend’s special power. It was good to know that they were on the same page at least. “I like the sound of that,” he added as Olivia said that they should do this again whenever they could. “Maybe we should ask Rebekah next, she loves kids,” he said thoughtfully. That was still something that he felt guilty about even now, his sister had always wanted to have a family of her own but that chance had been taken from her when she became a vampire. It was something that he wanted to fix but doing so was much easier said than done so in a way he hoped that her spending time with the kids might help. “Now that I’d like to see,” he chuckled as Olivia said that Elijah might have some white hairs by the time he and Tatia brought the kids back. Taking his seat at the table, Henrik started tucking into his food before rolling his eyes playfully at Olivia’s next words. “You’re probably right about that,” he agreed as he took a sip of his drink. As she explained about her day at the bar, Henrik couldn’t stop a smile from forming on his face at the thought. “Now that would have been fun to watch,” he admitted, knowing all too well how it could get like at the bar when that happened. Sometimes behaviour like that was infectious. “It was pretty good, the kids are all doing really well and they seem to be enjoying it,” he explained as he took another bite of his meal. “I’m thinking of giving them a more difficult assignment during the next class, I’m just not quite sure what yet,” he added even though he knew that he would figure it out. “I actually have a free day tomorrow if I can tempt you into skipping work,” he said, a mischievous smile forming on his face as he looked over at Olivia. Thankfully he always had weekends free so they were able to spend time together then or he was able to help out at the bar a bit more often but he couldn’t deny that he liked the idea of having a whole day where it was just the two of them. Community. Family. Love. This town had brought back to her almost everything that she had lost when time and the violence of men who refused to tolerate what they couldn’t understand had stripped it all from her. Not George, although Henrik may have tried to when he’d been forcibly taken to heaven if George hadn’t already found peace. A new love, a new community, family, none of whom were blood to her apart from her kids, but were family as much as her own had ever been. Blood wasn’t everything and every single thing she’d ever dealt with in her life had proved that to Olivia. Family were the people who were always there for you, who were there for you no matter what. Blood could never come into that – it could make you related but family was always so much more than that. Mystic Falls had proved that to her too.
Ares had started out a customer, rapidly becoming a friend and then practically as close as family in some ways. He’d smashed her glasses trying to help out, had driven her nuts at times but at the end of the day he’d been a shoulder to lean on and one hell of a bouncer when she needed to get the place cleaned out at night. An ex-marine and patrol office for the sheriff’s office made one hell of a deterrent. Olivia laughed, beaming a grin back at Henrik. ”Not entirely a bad thing, although, I think I better dial back the suspicions on what you’re up to.” She’d find out in time, she always did with how honest the two of them had been with one another from the moment they’d met.
Her brothers would have been worse with Henrik if they’d still been here. The two of them trying to take care of ten sisters had always left them narrowing their eyes at any man who took a second glance at any of them. They hadn’t had the chance to meet Henrik though, or their children. It left an ache in her heart at times but she fluttered her lashes at Henrik teasingly now before her hand fell away from her temple. ”She might not after she’s had our two for a while.” Teasing words again but she knew how it was for Henrik’s family, what being turned had cost them. Reaching out, Olivia laced her fingers with Henrik’s for a moment, squeezing his hand lightly in support at the thought. ”What time can’t do, our kids can. You think he’d dye it if he did?” She’d only ever seen Elijah dressed immaculately, but she’d never considered him vain enough to pull a move like that. If he was the kids would knock it out of him anyway, there was nothing like a pair of teenagers for an ego check, even if you were a Mikaelson.
What cost Elijah would extract for that would remain to be seen. Olivia whistled lightly about it as she started to dig into what Henrik had cooked for them. Making happy little sounds she’d tucked in heartily after the first mouthful, starving after a day on her feet at the bar. Hazel eyes twinkled as she looked up from her plate at him. ”I’m pretty sure they’re in town overnight. You might find them back there tomorrow lunch time.” Getting merry for the hours they were going to be stuck together on the coach again. Olivia scooped up another mouthful, chewing slowly as Henrik filled her in on his day. Little things like this were part of what she’d missed for so long, just having someone there to share those moments with, the small things that wouldn’t be important to anybody else. ”Just testing their limits? It’s probably good for them, gets them to stretch themselves.” Those hazel eyes narrowed again with that amused suspicion. ”A day off in the middle of the week. What are you trying to do to me Mr. Mikaelson?” She would manage it, of course, the staff she had now taking the load off enough that she didn’t miss out on time with those she loved.

There were times when Henrik still couldn’t quite believe how well things had turned out during his time in Mystic Falls. He hadn’t thought that any of this would happen when Crowley had sent him there but over time he had been reunited with each of his siblings, he had started making friends and he had been given the chance to start building a life with Olivia. Their lives before they both moved to the town were completely different and if things had worked out differently then he knew that they might not have found each other again but Henrik was grateful that they had found each other again every day. He hadn’t planned on falling for Olivia but that was exactly what had happened and even though he knew that he wasn’t her first love like she was his, it really didn’t matter. If it would have made her happy then he would have brought George back to life but the man had already found peace and that meant that Olivia was free to move on and Henrik couldn’t deny that he was looking forward to their future together. “You know that everything I do is for a good reason,” Henrik said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Olivia. He’d kept what he was up to from Olivia when he’d broken into Hell and freed Castiel because he hadn’t wanted to worry her but things had been different since then. They didn’t keep secrets from each other and Henrik knew that that was how it should be. They had each other, they had the kids and they also had so many friends and family around them now and Henrik wouldn’t have it any other way. So many of them had worked together to get him back when the angels had taken him back to Heaven and that was something that he hadn’t expected at all but it had made him appreciate them all that much more. “Bex has always been great with kids so there’s no chance of that,” he chuckled. He knew that that was his sister’s biggest regret about becoming a vampire, she’d lost her chance to have kids of her own but Henrik was working on something that might just give her that chance after all. Looking down at their hands as Olivia laced their fingers together and gave his hand a squeeze, Henrik lifted their hands and gave Olivia’s a light kiss. “I’m not sure but I think it would be amusing if he did,” he grinned, knowing that Elijah wouldn’t want anything to change the perfect image. His brother had never been like that but Henrik knew that a lot had changed after he died and he couldn’t blame Elijah for changing after what had happened to Tatia. As Olivia said that he might find the women she’d met today back at the bar tomorrow lunch time, Henrik couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ll remember that,” he chuckled even though he knew that he already had something much more interesting in mind if he could take Olivia into having the day off with him. Eating his meal, Henrik nodded as Olivia said that it was good for the kids to stretch themselves. “Exactly. They could play it safe but sometimes you have to push the limits and think outside the box,” he shrugged before feeling his smile return at Olivia’s next words. “Sometime soon we should go for a weekend away but for now I’ll take whatever time alone with you I can get,” he admitted, knowing that he wasn’t ready for that to come to an end just yet. Finishing his meal, Henrik set his knife and fork down and took a sip of his wine before lifting his gaze to look over at Olivia once more. “I don’t know about you but I could use a minute before we have dessert,” he said, not sure whether she was ready for it now or whether she would rather wait for a minute first. Trusting Henrik and trusting everybody else were two very different things. His smile was reassuring as he aimed it at her but nothing ever entirely snuffed out the part of her that had burned cold with fear when George had been killed or when the angels had come for Henrik. Waking the second time to find another love taken from her had set that part of her to burning again. Hope had done little to blanket that flame or ease the cold, it had taken holding Henrik in her arms again after they’d gotten back to do that. The lives of their unborn children, still little more than those intangible flickering heartbeats inside of her, pressed between them. Hope. Trust that the third time would be the charm and they would have those long happy lives they both deserved after all of that pain and heartbeat. Olivia held on to that belief, using it to snuff the part of her that was still scared. This night was going to be one of those thin threads woven into the blanket that covered it, keeping that cold at bay.
Warmth in her smile, in the pit of her stomach as she shook her head at Henrik. His ulterior motives were never laced with anything but those good intentions but still, it felt as though she had to narrow her eyes down to barely flinty slits and cluck her tongue, like she didn’t believe. His family’s reputations meant that few took them for their word but with Henrik Olivia had seen a different side to them. She’d seen echoes of her own family in them, especially in Rebekah. Her fall of blonde hair had reminded her of her sister Alice. Now she had a feeling she was going to have to make something up to her in the end. ”Not even a small one?” Olivia chuckled and stroked her thumb over his knuckles. ”That’s an awful lot of faith in your sister.” Just as she’d had in her own.
God, they would’ve been so happy to see her children, scooping the twins up when they were small to play with their cousins, giving them the run of that big house they’d all lived cheek by jowl in. Not nieces and nephews of their own blood but that had never made any difference to them. The ache the thought put in her throat was stifled as Henrik lifted their hands to kiss hers. Without the table between the two of them she would’ve kissed him for it. As it was, she grazed the tip of her thumb over the dent in his chin. Olivia’s smile lingered on her face, broadening at the thought of Elijah being vain enough to reach for the dye. ”Maybe a little dignified blue in there if the kids got their way.” Dignified Elijah cracking just slightly under the pressure of two teenagers. Teenagers who had certainly inherited that mischievous streak from their parents.
Olivia hadn’t intended to tease but once she’d started about the pack of elderly women it was hard to stop. She wound pasta around her fork, trying for innocence and absolutely failing. The pasta went down, hazel eyes ticking back and forth between her plate and Henrik. ”Just you don’t go stretching yourself too far,” she chided lightly. ”I’ll need you at your fittest to deal with that pack of sweet old dears.” If there was anybody who could think outside of the box though, it was the two of them, unfortunately through necessity they’d had no choice. Her plate empty, Olivia nudged it aside, folding her arms lightly against the edge of the table. "Drop the kids off with one of your brothers or sisters again? I think I might be able to swing it, even if it takes getting Ares behind the bar. For time alone with you.” Glancing down at her plate, Olivia made a low sound of agreement. ”You made dessert too? Whoo, at this rate I’ll definitely need a minute and to unbutton before I burst. This was amazing.” He was amazing and had been from the moment she’d set eyes on him.

At only thirteen when he died, Henrik had never even truly had the chance to live his life. He’d never had the chance to fall in love and start a family of his own and he honestly hadn’t thought that he would ever get to have that chance. When Crowley brought him back he had thought that he would simply have to continue doing what the demon wanted for his whole life but after learning that his siblings were still alive after all he had realised that it was about time that he started living his life for himself rather than just for Crowley. In a strange way the demon had become a father to him and he had seemed to understand Henrik’s desire to start really living in a way that the warlock hadn’t expected. Now he had the best of both worlds, he was able to do as he pleased and he was still able to help Crowley when he needed it. His family had grown during his time in Mystic Falls since his memories of Castiel had been brought back to him too and he had been reunited with Lukas and Olivia as well. He had so many people around him that he loved and he knew that he really wouldn’t have it any other way. “Trust me, she’d love it. She always wanted kids of her own so I know she’d love to be there for ours,” Henrik grinned. He knew that it wasn’t the same considering that Alice and Connor were Rebekah’s niece and nephew rather than her own children but he didn’t doubt that she would still want to spend time with them anyway just like she did with Hope. His sister had always loved looking after children and he knew that wouldn’t have changed. Feeling Olivia’s thumb run over his chin, Henrik felt a smile form on his face as his eyes met hers. “Do you think he could pull it off?” he chuckled, knowing that he wouldn’t put it past the kids to try something like that. Elijah was so straight laced and formal all the time that the thought of him doing something like that truly was amusing. Finishing his meal, Henrik looked over at Olivia as she told him not to go stretching himself too far. “As if I would.” He knew what his limits were and even though he did sometimes like to test them, he also knew when not to and right now there was no reason for him to go pushing himself too much. Even when he had to bring people back to life he made sure that he was careful and linked himself to others because he knew the price that had to be paid for using too much magic himself. In the past he wouldn’t have worried too much but now he had far too much to lose and he knew that he wasn’t going to do anything to jeopardise the life and family that he had built. “Sounds like we’re going to do it then,” he said, a smile forming on his face as he lifted his glass to his lips and took a sip. As Olivia spoke again, Henrik couldn’t help but laugh as he set his glass back down once more. “Of course, it wouldn’t be the same if I’d cheated and bought dessert,” he chuckled. He really did want it to be a memorable night and as far as he was concerned he also wanted everything to be perfect. Shifting his chair slightly, he reached forward and took Olivia’s hand in his. “There’s something I should tell you, I wasn’t completely honest with you earlier,” he began as he lifted his gaze to meet hers. “I did have an ulterior motive for tonight, I wanted to talk to you about something,” he added, knowing that he wouldn’t be surprised if Olivia had expected that much already. “I’ve been talking to Lukas and since you’ve stopped ageing and the kids will have that chance as well I was wondering how you’d feel about me making myself immortal?” he asked, not too sure how she would feel about spending more than just one lifetime with him. It was a big step but it was one that Henrik knew that he was ready to take. OLIVIA CAMPBELL

One hand was caught in Henrik’s, the other slipped down beneath the surface of the table, curling lightly over Olivia’s stomach for a moment. It had been just over a year since she’d given birth to the twins, seventeen years of memories stacking up in those months, but she could still remember that feeling that had filled her when Lucy had revealed to her that she was pregnant. A desperate longing for her family to be together, for her children to grow up knowing their father, the crushing loss underscored by the realisation of the blessing she’d been given despite the tragedy. It had never happened for her and George and although they had almost all the time in the world for it to happen, it hadn’t. She could’ve spent hundreds of years like Henrik’s sister, a heart desperate for that blessing but her body uncooperative. In the end fate had shone on her, she had Henrik, she had the twins and no matter the pain that would possibly come she wouldn’t have turned the clock back for anything. She wasn’t sure Rebekah would have said the same.
Olivia’s smile was soft, fond, as she let her hand settle back on the edge of the table. There wasn’t a magic wand to wave to give Rebekah what she wanted, even if her big brother had been gifted with a daughter, but if their kids would ease that pang in her heart then Rebekah could certainly play favourite Aunty any time she liked. ”They can always drive her wild then. Vacation time at their aunt’s place.” Another pang in her heart at the thought. She had nieces and nephews on the other side of the ocean. Great nieces and nephews, two generations who’d mostly grown up without a clue of who she really was. So much lost in keeping them from having to learn painful truths about the world.
Their kids already knew how bad things could get, some of what their parents had gone through passed along with the knowledge of what had really happened when their dad had tried to protect them. They would learn more as they aged, something that made her heart ache but they were lucky, they had people like their uncles and aunts prepared to protect them from it all, and in exchange they offered them all something they had never believed they would have.
Poor Elijah though. Olivia chuckled lightly at the thought of just how he was going to suffer tonight. She tapped her finger lightly against the curve of Henrik’s lip. ”Oh, absolutely. Elijah could pull off anything he put his mind to.” He would just suffer a little in the process, holding his chin up proudly regardless.
All the Mikaelsons put on a brave face in a way. Henrik included. Olivia made a small sound as Henrik teased lightly with his response to her warning. It was faintly dubious, hazel eyes narrowing in its wake. For them he would ever single time. And every single time she would make sure he took the time for himself, for them, that he needed. The two of them watching out for one another. A break to do that sounded good enough to have her sighing happily, a weight she had realised was there easing off of her shoulders. ”You planned a vacation, cooked dinner and you managed desert? This almost sounds too good to be true.” A slow grin. It would’ve been if he’d been anybody else, Olivia thought, feeling incredibly spoiled.
He had to leave her breathless an instant later thought. Olivia’s throat tightened as Henrik shifted. Her expression froze, her heart starting to race in her neck with nervous anticipation. ”Way to hide the headline,” she managed hoarsely. Not bad. He wouldn’t have done this for bad news. Her teeth sank into her lip though, only releasing on a long exhalation when she realised it wasn’t half as bad as she’d imagined. ”For us?” Tears welled up in her eyes. Some part of her had been scared since he’d been taken. George had died at the hands of hunters, a man who should have been able to live such a long life with her. Henrik had been brought back but how long would it be before something took him again. ”If it means I don’t have to go through losing you again I’m all for it.” She pressed her lips together, holding back the tears that wanted to scald their way down her face.

Henrik had never thought that he would end up having the kind of life that he had now. He was only a child when he’d died, too young to have even really started living his life, and he had spent almost a millennia in Heaven before Crowley had decided to bring him back. Ever since then he had been learning as much as he could about the world and the people in it but until he arrived in Mystic Falls he had always lived in the shadows. He hadn’t let anyone get too close to him aside from Olivia and a couple of others but even with them he had known that his time with them was only fleeting. It was only when he found his family again that he’d realised that it was time he started living his life for himself rather than for Crowley and he had finally started putting down roots. Now he had a girlfriend he loved, two amazing kids and the rest of his family and friends around him so needless to say things were going much better than he had ever thought they would. “I’m sure she’d love every minute of it,” Henrik said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Olivia before it quickly faded as he realised that while he had his family around him again, hers live half way across the world. He knew that things hadn’t been easy for her, she’d had to leave her family behind a long time ago and even though she still kept in touch with them he knew that it couldn’t be the same. He wished there was something that he could do to help her but nothing sprang to mind so he knew that he was going to have to see what he could come up with. Until then Henrik knew that he could at least try and fill that void as much as possible and he hoped that the family he and Olivia had built together was enough to ease that pain even just a little. “That’s true,” Henrik chuckled, just able to imagine his older brother with blue hair. “If the kids couldn’t talk him around I’m sure Tatia could if she really wanted to,” he added with a grin even though he knew that none of them would ever go that far. He had never seen his brother as happy as he was when he was with Tatia and he was glad that they too had found each other again. “What can I say, I’m full of surprises,” he said, an easy smile touching his lips as he reached over and gave Olivia’s hand a gentle squeeze. It wasn’t often that he got to do something like this for her and when he did have the chance he liked to go all out. He had told Olivia before that there weren’t any ulterior motives for the evening and that hadn’t been completely true. There was something that he’d wanted to talk to her about and as she spoke he could tell that she was nervous. He probably should have done this before they’d had their meal but he had wanted them to have a nice night beforehand just in case Olivia didn’t want him to become immortal. For all he knew she might have just seen herself living a normal, mortal lifetime with him and if that was the case then he knew that he would find a way to make his peace with that. As she asked if it was for them, he nodded. “For you, for the kids, for my family, for us,” he nodded. “For all of us.” He could see the tears in her eyes and he reached up to brush them again gently. Henrik knew that she had already lost George and she had lost him once when he was taken by the angels too. That wasn’t something that he ever wanted to put her through again and he knew that this was the best way he could ensure that didn’t happen aside from becoming a vampire himself and Henrik wasn’t sure that he would ever be ready to lose his connection to magic like that. “I could still be killed but you wouldn’t have to watch me grow old or get sick and I’d fight every day to stay by your side if I had to,” he nodded as he brought his hand up and let it rest gently against her cheek. “This is the only way I can think of to stay with all of you and still keep my magic so I can keep you all safe,” he added. “What do you think?”OLIVIA CAMPBELL
