til now. By the age of 34 he should've been travelling the world, playing guest spots with orchestras from one end of it to the other, staring on the stages at Lincoln Center on an almost nightly basis. It had been his dream his entire life to do just that but things don't always work out. At 24, with both a failed relationship on his hands and an unceremonial dismissal from the jazz orchestra at the Lincoln Center in New York, Zachary took to the road. Heading back to where his Abuela was born he started out in Guatemala, then hit much of the rest of South America, California, New Orleans for the jazz of his mother's city and time with his uncle. He wouldn't continued on but it was in his uncle's bar that Zachary found himself caught in the orbit of someone again. It only took a week for him to realise what he wanted and that was Blake. As Blake headed back home to Mystic Falls Zachary found himself following. He settled there in the small town, finding a new direction for himself teaching music theory at Whitmore and offering music lessons in town. It was never going to be the Lincoln Center but that doesn't matter, here in the small town Zachary can pass on his love of music and bask in the colour that it brings thanks to his synaesthesia.
friends. There was little room for friends once upon a time. Everything was about the music, the sound, the colour. As Zachary grew older and he made the leap to Juilliard he began to get close to people but then graduation happened and both his relationship and his career at the Lincoln Center crashed and burned all of that changed. Settled into his life in Mystic Falls with his partner Zachary's found that ability to grow close to people again. He's friendly with the other professors at the college, he's close with Blake's friends and family here in town and unlike some of those he works with he's close to his students too.
enemies. Completely ignorant of the supernatural world, Zachary's very unlikely to have these. Sure, the fight for tenure can be brutal, as can the battle to move up through the ranks in orchestras but these days Zachary tries to keep himself well away from that sort of stress.
family. The only son of Francisco and Adrienne Quiroa, it was no wonder that Zachary was close to his parents or that he started to follow in their footsteps. He spent the earliest years of his life either at the Lincoln Center, basking in the sound and colour produced by the orchestras they played with or in the care of his Abuela, who tried her best to keep up with him.
lovers. Zachary hadn't particularly been looking for love when he'd left home and gone to find his passion for music again. Relationships before then had been a source of longing and pain and after his last had cost him his spot at the Lincoln Center Zachary had sworn off of it. Across a bar in New Orleans it struck though. Blake and Zachary have been together for six years, moving in with one another when Zachary left his uncle's place in Bayou Teche to follow Blake back to his home.
