They Ain't Heavy, They're My Brothers [0/2 Taken]

First a little history on the Quinn clan. This will apply to both want ads. Much of the family history can be found on Alix’s app but the gist of it is that the Quinn family have been hunting for centuries, ever since Seth Quinn first killed a vampire in the 18th century. It was tradition that hunting skill was passed down from father to son or sons. In the 21st century the family bucked that tradition, mainly because Seth wasn’t prepared for any member of the family to be sidelined from the family business. Like generations before the family travelled the country, hiding their real business behind a veneer of academia – covering as supply teachers, picking up temporary spots here and there.

While each child might’ve trained their entire lives their first solo hunt wouldn’t happen until they were 16. Past that age they were expected to each do their part and be ruthless in doing it. Monsters were always monsters, no matter how hard they tried to convince you to change their spots or whether or not that monster wore the face of your own family.

- Rohan is the oldest of the five Quinn children. This has always meant that the weight fell most heavily on his shoulders. He was the one for the others to look up to, the future leader of the family. On the surface, at least, he seemed to deal well with this, helping to train his brothers and sister, sticking with the family ideology but underneath there may have been cracks (this is up to the player but by the time Alix has been gone for a couple of years Rohan has started to have doubts).

- At sixteen Rohan undertook his own first hunt, going up against a wendigo. It took him two days and left him bloodied and exhausted but it was proof that all of his training had gone as well as it could’ve done. When his next youngest brother Iain successfully completed his hunt four years later Rohan was the first there to applaud him. Alix would undertake hers four years after that and this time things didn’t go so well.

Rohan was the first to his sister on that day. His stomach roiling as he found her with her arm nearly severed. It would be his gun that would fire the fatal bullet into the alpha werewolf’s head. He was the one that stayed up long nights by his sister’s bed as they waited for her to wake up from surgery, as they tried to make sure she didn’t lose her arm. As Alix recovered Rohan was the one to train with her day after day, to try and make sure his sister got back to hunting.

- Rohan was always the brother Alix was closest to. Despite their age gap he was the one that she whispered her secrets to and filled in on her doubts. He might have been having some himself (or not still at this point) but he always cautioned her to continue toeing the family line and not to rock the boat. As Rohan was the eldest he would have remembered his aunt where Alix and the brothers younger than her would not have done. He may not have been aware of it at the time, but by the time Alix was 19 Rohan certainly knew that his Uncle Ralphy and his dad had killed their own sister and her husband for her marrying a werewolf. If they were that callous with their sister, it wouldn’t be any different if Alix rocked the boat too much.

- It wasn’t until Alix disappeared that Rohan really began to suspect something was going on with his uncle. Alix was sent in under cover at a High School to investigate the disappearance of teenagers and disappeared herself. His parents and Ralphy seemed sure she would be back but it was Rohan who was out in the town every night searching for her. When she returned a week later he knew she wasn’t the same but before he could do anything about it Alix told the family she was heading out on her own. Rohan had huge doubts and was worried for her but the family was moving on to another hunt and fighting to go with her was going to raise the sorts of eyebrows he didn’t want raised.

- For those seven years Rohan has been trying to track his sister. Occasionally he’d pick up her scent for a day or two, occasionally from a comment dropped by his uncle but it’s not until the last couple of months that he’s been able to pin Alix down in a town where disappearances seem to be the norm. Sure that something is rotten in the state of Quinn, Rohan has talked his younger brother into going with him to Mystic Falls to find out what’s going on and to see his sister again.

- There is total flexibility on the name. Luther was never named in Alix’s app or subsequent posts and so the name is just used to make the writing of the ad easier here.

- Being the youngest Quinn was never going to be easy. Following in the footsteps of generations of hunters was daunting enough on its own but having three older siblings who were fierce as hell when it came to hunting made it all the harder. Luther tried to keep up with his older siblings, training as hard as them, making sure he kept his head down when it came to studies outside of hunting but that side was never quite as easy as it seemed to be for Rohan or Alix.

- Luther’s one big advantage was always his size. While he might have been a gentle giant he still towered over his siblings by the time he hit fourteen. This made him an advantage in the field when he was finally allowed to hunt, all that strength pitted against the creatures they were taking down made the fights easier physically. For Luther it was still a struggle, as the pacifist in the family, he didn’t see the same cookie cutter blood thirsty beast in everything they hunted.

- Over the years Luther has tried to focus more on the academic side of things. It was expected of course, as a Quinn you eventually worked yourself up to the point where you could hide behind that harmless looking veneer of education, but Luther wanted to take it further. He majored in biochemistry, fighting to get lab time at whatever college was closest to where they were. It wasn’t as easy as history or politics, it took far more on site time, but he made it and immediately started pushing to continue into post-grad too. That hasn’t pleased his parents at all. The expectation was that he’d get a teaching qualification online and would join the other side of the family business.

- It was around this time that Ralphy started to side with his nephew a little more. Ever since his sister had left Luther had felt like the family was hiding but Ralphy agreeing that he should be able to draw back a little. His father didn’t agree, Ralphy was always that crooning voice of manipulation in their family though. Ralphy had been the one to constantly tell them how Alix was doing. Pretty soon Luther began to realise that his uncle was laying things on way too thick. Something was wrong with their sister.

- When Rohan suggested going to look for Alix Luther instantly agreed. He was the one to start tracking her via the internet. While their father was always fantastic at hiding their hunts, remaining behind the scenes and out of the range of cameras, Alix hadn’t hidden herself so well with her own sideline. Luther used the photos Alix displayed on her gallery to trace his sister across the country and to Mystic Falls.
