The White Knight/Heartbreak Eraser

Like Mason Maya grew up in Mystic Falls but unlike the Lockwoods it was on the wrong side of the tracks. The Randalls were one of the poorer families in the area, Maya’s dad always ending up in some sort of trouble with the police, her mom fighting to stay protect her kids from her abusive husband but not always succeeding.

Her and Mason were two years apart at school but their paths crossed anyway and the two were pretty good friends, despite the difference in age and social status. Neither set of parents would’ve enjoyed the idea that these two were close, both sneering at what the other side was.

Maya wasn’t bitter when Mason headed off to college, she understood his desire to get the hell away from his family, but it hurt a little as they drifted apart. She had to wait two more years to try and escape Mystic Falls herself. Whether or not Maya was successful in escaping or ended up at Whitmore is up to the player but she would have gone to college and gotten her degree in a subject that would then allow her to work with young people and social services later.

The two remained in touch while Mason was gone but he never told her how things ended with his supposed girlfriend Kathy and he didn’t tell her that he had become a werewolf. By the time Mason returned home from Florida Maya had been back in town a while (or had remained there a while). Dividing her time between working for social services in town, watching out for the kids who were just like her and her siblings were. Abuse of any sort is a major trigger for and will likely make Maya step just over the line of what’s acceptable on the job. When she’s not fighting the good fight for the disadvantaged or vulnerable Maya works as a firefighter.

Fraternisation is frowned upon in both areas but Maya has always been one to push boundaries. During the time that Mason was taking guardianship of Jezebelle Maya found herself assigned to the family. She wasn’t the social worker, wasn’t the one officially signing off on the process but she was monitoring Jezebelle, looking out for what was meant to be the girl’s best interest. In recent months Mason has considered on a real job in Mystic Falls since he has little choice in sticking around now. Taking after Maya he’s heading for the firefighting academy, then will end up as a rookie in the firehouse under Maya’s watchful eye. She's aware that a girl in Florida broke Mason's heart and has been his one support through all of that.

Maya has always been fierce, ready to fight whatever fight is needed. She might not have come from an affluent background but she’s never been one to let that stop her. She’s honest and brave and doesn’t hesitate to go after what she wants. At the same time she sometimes takes that too far. Having suffered through years of abuse at home it’s a massive sore spot for her. In reacting for it she goes too far and one more than one occasion has had to be stopped from using her fists.

Species and name are open, I just went with suggestions above.

I’d love to for these two to slide back into being close friends, I’d love it even more for her and Mason to take things further.
