Awareness came as a painful snapping sensation in her chest. A breaking, that dull ache of loss filling her the instant she saw Lucy crouched over her instead of Henrik. He was gone. He had to have been. Knowing what she had gone through with George, having heard every hoarse word of what had happened to him when the hunters had killed him Olivia knew that Henrik wouldn’t have disappeared at a moment like this, not unless the angels had gotten their way and he’d been forced to go with them … or killed.
Panic clawed at her throat as she looked around her. Elbows cracking against the ground, bare skin scraping as she pushed against the hands reaching out to slow her. Olivia could only half see around her, tears filling her eyes too much to make out detail in the distance. She was asking, her hand reaching out to grip Lucy’s arm fiercely as Henrik’s friend began to speak. Her ears echoed with George’s words on the other side at the same time. Henrik had done something to keep her safe. He loved her and so he’d sacrificed himself. George had told her to come back here to him but he wasn’t here. Henrik was gone.
Olivia frowned, her fingers loosening on Lucy’s arm as Lucy bowed her head. Why wasn’t she looking her in the eye? Why was she … no. She’d hoped so hard that she wasn’t right. Pressing her lips together as the tears began to break over her lashes, Olivia tried to keep a sob back. ”B-back … the angel … he had a blade …” She’d felt it bite into her chest, her lungs feeling as though they were full of both fire and ice as she’d hit the ground. Henrik had held he, he’d told her that he would always love her.
She’d died.
The knowledge made the ache in her chest worst. She scrambled back a step, drawing her knees up to her chest, pressing her face to her knees for a moment, trying to stem the flow of tears. He’d handed himself over for the chance to bring her back. ”No,” she moaned brokenly. ”We have to find him, we have to get him back. Lucy, we can’t leave him there.” Her expression was fierce as she looked up but that flood of bravery faltered as Lucy held out a letter with her name written on the front. There was no way Henrik had written it here, not unless angels could turn up a pen and paper with a snap of their fingers and had been patient enough for Henrik to write to her. No. This meant he’d done it before. He’d known something was coming. Swallowing hard as she took it from Lucy, Olivia nodded slowly. ”Home, please. I can’t … I can’t read it here. Someone must have seen something…” Not sure she could trust her legs, she pushed her way to her feet. Olivia’s fingers clasped the envelope tight in one hand. Her other reached out for Lucy, needing the anchor of somebody right now.

| Lucy remained at Olivia’s side until she woke up. Casting and sustaining spells of cloaking and invisibility around them so people wouldn’t ask questions about a girl lying seemingly dead on the sidewalk. When she woke, she made sure that she took it easy. As she expected she was a little disorientated. When she began putting the pieces back together, mentioning the angel with the blade… she nodded confirming what she didn’t voice. She had died.
She remained on the ground with her for a few minutes explaining what had happened while she had been dead. How Henrik offered to go willingly in exchange for their safety and bringing her back to life. Lucy smiled a little at her, ” I know. I’m not giving up either, but we definitely can’t take on the entire heavenly host.” Lucy told her gently. For now, though she wanted to keep her promise and give her the letter.
She seemed to realize there was more to it, just as Lucy had when Henrik had given them to her. That he had been feeling something was coming. That his time was coming to an end, that luck wasn’t on his side. She offered her the letter of reading it here or waiting until Lucy got her home. When she opted to head home first, Lucy pushed herself up and offered Olivia a hand getting up, ” Sure. Let’s go. I kept up spells around us to keep us invisible. Last thing we needed was questions.”
Lucy helped her get up and once they were moving, she gradually relaxed the spells which kept them hidden. Lucy helped her along as they walked together back to her house. She waited while Olivia opened her door and Lucy tentatively followed her inside, ” You should shower… get cleaned up…” Lucy suggested gently. While Olivia was in the shower Lucy made herself busy, making her some tea in efforts to relax her, spelling it a little hoping it would relax her enough to sleep. When she was out Lucy looked in the direction that she had just come from, ” I need to go. But I’ve made a pot of tea, spelled it a little to help you sleep, if you want it.” Lucy told her gently. She wasn’t going to make her drink it, but it would certainly help at least for the here and now, ” I’ve also wrote down my number if you need anything. It’s by your phone.” Lucy told her. She wanted to at least make sure that she was as ok… or at least as good as she could be given the situation. She ducked out moments later and now took to the streets to find her own way back home.

Her life had crumbled to dust when George had been killed but least she had been at his side when he had taken his last breath. There had been some closure to it as everything else had cracked wide open. This was different. Olivia had known it from the moment that she opened her eyes to find Lucy leaning over her, not Henrik. George’s words, wherever she had been, should have given her some warning but it hadn’t stuck, not well enough. The tears she was holding back as Lucy began to explain to her what had happened made her throat ache. They burned in her eyes, making the edges of her vision shimmer but she couldn’t let them fall.
Henrik wasn’t dead. The angels had wanted him alive and he had gone with them to save her. That meant he wasn’t really gone. Determination flickered through Olivia like a bolt of lightning. The tears broke whether she wanted them to or not. Balling herself up on the sidewalk, Olivia felt them begin to spill hot down her cheeks. ”Between us we can. Your power, mine, his brothers and sisters, Castiel. We have an angel on our side…” Castiel hadn’t been here now though. There had been no way for them to stop what had happened.
It looked like Henrik had known it too. Her fingers closed around the envelope, crumpling it slightly. He had known something was coming and he’d prepared. She couldn’t read it here though, telling Lucy as much. She allowed the witch to help her to her feet. Olivia swallowed hard and looked around. ”How could they not have seen it?” she breathed. They never did though. It was the way of the world even when you didn’t have a witch shielding you Somehow Lucy got her home, slowly, almost painfully, despite the fact that there was no longer a mark on her. Olivia swiped at her tears with one hand, clutching the letter to her chest with another, somehow pulling herself together by the time they slipped into the house. She let Lucy nudge her towards the bathroom. Carefully setting the letter down on the side of the sink Olivia stripped off bloodied clothing, folding each peace carefully before she stepped into the shower. The water was hot, sluicing away any evidence of what had happened from her skin, as though it could be erased. Her fingers moved over her chest, not finding a single sign of what had happened. By the time she stepped back out and made her way into the living room she felt stronger but Olivia knew there was likely another blow to come.
Reaching out to her, Olivia took Lucy’s hand and squeezed it tight. She hadn’t met the woman until today but she what she had done for them both meant so much. ”Thank you,” she whispered hoarsely. ”For everything.” Olivia sank down onto the couch, balling herself up as Lucy slipped out and left her along. She couldn’t stomach the tea, not yet, not even if it would help her to sleep. Numb fingers set the letter in her lap, spreading out the crinkles she’d left in it. Lifting her chin as her lip started quivering Olivia opened it. Tears welled at the sight of his handwriting, threatening to fall on the letter and blur the words. She dashed them away, sucking in a breath as she read that he’d stopped fighting and accepted fate. ”No,” she managed hoarsely, closing her eyes for a moment. It hadn’t been fate that they had finally found each other and fallen in love only for it to end this way, she refused to believe it.
George had told her to go back to him, that Henrik loved her. She shouldn’t have had to lose him. Her hand came up to cover her mouth as a sob welled out. She’d never regretted a moment of it and wouldn’t now, even with him gone. ”God, I love you,” she whispered. Even if they couldn’t get him back she wouldn’t regret a moment of it either but she knew this wasn’t the end for the two of them. Olivia swallowed, smoothing her hand over the letter again before she froze. In their little boy or girl … what? She read it again, her eyes raking over the sentence again before she continued and felt a laugh bubbling up. A child, she was pregnant.
Her hand fell to her stomach, fingers spreading over it as she continued to read. No. She wasn’t doing this without him here, they had finally found love and it didn’t matter whether or not Henrik was giving her permission to move on, she wasn’t going to stop fighting to get it back. He had made her happier than she ever thought she could be and she knew he would do the same for her child. Olivia pressed her lips together as the sobs came, the letter pressed to her stomach as she allowed herself to give into it. Tears streaming unchecked down her cheeks, she tipped her head back, staring up at the ceiling. ”I love you too and if I can’t … if we can’t get you back … our child will know you, they’ll know that they were loved before they were even born.” If … it wasn’t going to be an option, not even if she had to break down the walls of heaven herself, they were going to get Henrik back.
