Sam Winchester:
Sam was glad he wasn't part of the Quinn's family as he would have turned out differently or been pushed aside either way he would do all of it again if it meant that others didn't have to go through what he did. She may have been right that nobody should have to go through what either of them had but it happened all the same and it had made them stronger. They had managed to survive it and would continue to survive, or at least Alix would. Sam looked to his arm as she squeezed it. "I know they would but they would just be dooming themselves in the process." Of course it was a shock, not many knew that there was a half Winchester out there. Now Sam thought about it there had been a reason for it after all. Adam was a way to continue the Winchester bloodline even if it was only part of it. Even if Sam and Dean hadn't accepted fate then there would have been someone else to continue the line if Adam hadn't been attacked by ghouls then he would have had children and the cycle would have continued possibly with Ben and Adam or even Adam's child and Ben. Heaven or God had planned this all down to the last detail. Even if Dean and him were to die now there was always a Winchester alive to continue the apocalypse. The hunter had it in his head now that now more than ever Lucifer needed to be killed so that no more people had to suffer. "On a hunt a woman was thankful to him and well the rest is obvious." It was how Dean had ended up with a son as well after all. Even though she stopped herself he knew what she was about to say. "Eh, that was over ten years ago now, It's all in the past now." The next words from her shocked him. Nobody had ever called him brave for going up against Lucifer alone. Everybody had thought him mad and maybe he was, it wouldn't be the first time he had been locked in a mental institute. However, she was right they would be more than pissed. "Oh I know they're going to be pissed. I would be too but that's why I am taking precautions to make sure Dean doesn't do anything stupid and get himself killed trying to save me." Of course she was correct. It was a weird feeling having someone who knew their family so well. Most of his allies were dead or packed the life in and yet they still had people on their side. He didn't want to argue about people looking out for him as he knew like everyone else she would try to stop him or let Dean know his plan if she told her too much. He didn't need another person looking out for her. She was stronger than he remembered but that could have been the were-coyote side of her but it didn't hurt as she hadn't meant it to. "Ow, what? Anybody under six foot is small to me. I can hardly see you from up here so I guessed your height." As Alix mentioned the garage Sam stood up and ignored his fatigue that started to kick in as the adrenaline had started to wane. He made his way to the garage following in her wake. Sam almost bumped into the back of her as she stopped and looked at the plastic bundle. Sam hoped that after the fight they had just survived that they had managed to save the human. Sam walked around Alix and tried to reassure her. "Rugarus normally eat their meals fresh." He was stating facts he thought would calm her without thinking about the context. The human should be alive and knocked out if they had enough oxygen to breathe in there. oxygen, shit!. Sam made his way to the boot quickly and ripped a hole in the bag hoping to hear a gasp for breath. He ripped the bag in a downwards motion to release whatever was in the bag. Sam didn't even need to think about it. This was just another hunt and it was like he was on auto pilot. This wasn't the Winchester's first rodeo so it hadn't occurred to him to do anything different to normal than on any other hunt. Sam had released the body from the bag as he went to place two fingers on the woman's neck to find a pulse he almost jumped a mile. He hadn't processed if it was Alix's movement or the victim's that made him jump. Tag: ALIX QUINN Notes: SORRY for the wait!! Words: 790

When it came to saving family it was never damnation. She’d been shocky and out of it when Rohan had swept in to save her from the Alpha but she’d seen the look in his eye as he’d done it. The thing might’ve killed him too given its strength but that didn’t matter to him. Family had been what mattered, love for the people that meant the most to you. It mean falling on your sword occasionally. She’d done it herself, stepping away from them all to not only avoid being killed by her uncle or father, but to save her brothers from trying to do something to protect her. Alix knew Rohan likely would’ve tried, torn between what their family would’ve said was right and the bond that had always been there between the two of them. Alix swallowed at the thought and looked up at Sam to smile sadly. ”It would’ve been their choice to do it though. This way they’ll try anyway and be seriously pissed about you cutting them out in the process.” She could understand both sides but given what she’d done herself Alix really didn’t have much of a leg to stand on when it came to telling Sam he should let his family help. It wasn’t what she’d done after all. Her family were a little less likely to help and a little more likely to put her out of her misery though.
Hearing what had happened to John and Sam’s half-brother, Alix got why Sam was doing it though. She shoved her hand through her hair, sloughing off little bits of half dry rugaru blood into the red strands. Her mouth quirked faintly as she shook her head at Sam .”Seems like the way with male hunters at least,” she teased faintly before her sympathies over Sam’s loss half stuck in her throat. It didn’t matter how long ago it had happened, the fact was that they’d lost family. Alix’s voice was hoarse when it emerged. ”Ten years, a hundred, doesn’t matter, things are never just in the past.” Her family were the poster people for that. She’d had an aunt, one that Ralphy and her dad had killed for daring to marry a werewolf. They hadn’t been able to leave that in the past, no matter how much her aunt had just wanted a peaceful life. Alix didn’t know how her aunt had managed to find enough strength to do it considering how militant the Quinns were. She didn’t know how Sam had the strength to try and go up against Lucifer on his own either. A faint trace of amusement pulled at Alix’s lips, some of the first she’d felt while they’d been dealing with Christian here. ”I’m not going to ask if you’re ever met your brother but … have you ever known Dean not to try and do something stupid? Especially for family. Nothing’s going to stop him.” The only thing that might’ve done was John Winchester but Alix had heard on the grapevine that he was dead. Untempered, Dean would likely be doing everything possible to track Sam down and stop him right now.
Alix supposed she could’ve helped. She was strong enough to knock both Winchesters on their asses at the moment. Although, with Sam powered up by the demon blood in her system Alix wasn’t sure she’d be able to do it more than once. Red brows hitched as Alix debated swatting him again. ”What?” she managed on a laugh. ”Not all of us got the half giant gene. What we don’t have in height we make up in other ways though.” Only she hadn’t made it up in smarts this time though, had she. While she and Sam had been shooting the breeze out here the rugaru’s victim had remained where he’d left her when he’d been surprised. Alix tore towards the garage as fast as she could, getting there ahead of Sam before she dropped dead. Lips pressed together, Alix watched Sam move towards the trunk. ”Fresh, not always live,” she whispered hoarsely. She stepped forward on weak knees, watching Sam tear a whole in the bag. A woman lay folded inside, looking dead even if she wasn’t. ”Is there a pulse?” she asked, stepping forward. She saw Sam start and tried again. ”Sam, is there a pulse? Is she alive?” Then she saw the faint movement and let out a shuddery breath. ”We need to get her out of here. Think you can do that Sasquatch?” The brittle humour was back now that relief had replaced the dread. They hadn’t killed the woman by taking too long outside.

Sam Winchester:
Sam was sick and tired of trying to tell people why he was doing things for his family. He would prefer that it was just over. He didn't want to explain to people why he was trying to take the choice away from the rest of his family. Ever since finding out about the demon blood he had seen himself as doomed and a nuisance on Dean, now he saw it as a burden on the whole of his family. He knew if the shoe was on the other foot he would do the same as Dean but he didn't want them to waste their life trying to save him from the inevitable. "I know, Alix. But I don't want them to get hurt anymore because of me. Pissed or not I don't care. This way I know they will be safe." He shook his head. He just wanted to know that if he was to be gone then they would be safe and happy or as safe and happy as they could be as hunters. He was certain that Alix would talk to Dean about this meet up so he didn't want to admit it but he would. The message would then make its way to his brother. "I know they wont be happy but this is most likely going to kill me and I want to know that if it does they will still be safe. If my family got hurt or killed trying to stop the inevitable then what would my sacrifice be for? I just want them to be safe and if going up against Lucifer alone is the way to do it then so be it." He knew if his plan went well then he would be dead but he didn't want Alix to go up against him as well. "Hey! I'll have you know I don't have any mini-mes running around. Not all male hunters miss the goal posts." He raised an eyebrow. She was correct in it being male hunters more commonly because they didn't have the consequences afterwards. Sam choose not to talk about Adam again as in truth it had hurt him that Adam was left behind instead of him. If it wasn't for their father then Adam wouldn't have been targeted by the ghouls. "Are you forgetting that I know him better than anyone, so, I can preempt his movements and plan against him." Sam laughed and shook his head. "No, but it seems everyone else inherited the dwarf gene." Sam looked her up and down "oh yeah. Do I want to know the other ways?" The male hunter didn't want to think about the possibility of the fact the victim could be dead. He didn't want to image the fact that them catching up had led to someones death. Sam shook his head gravely as she asked about a pulse. He continued to try to find one and then he finally found a faint pulse. Relief washed over him before he ripped the bag further. "Yeah, just." As she mentioned they needed to get to the hospital, he nodded. "Yeah, you drive. I'll carry her." He knew in honesty that she was probably stronger than him but it would be easier for him to pick the woman up. Sam ripped the bag off the woman and scooped her up in his arms. "Please tell me you have your car here. I don't want you to pull the seat to close in mine."

Wasn’t she doing the same with her brothers? Self-preservation was what had set her running from her family in the first place but it was the thought of her brothers having to be the ones to take her down eventually that had stopped her from reaching out to them. It was better that they thought she was out there doing what their family had been done for over a hundred years. If any of them knew what Ralphy was up to they would’ve tried to intervene and God only knew what her uncle would’ve done then. He’d killed his own sister, blood obviously meant nothing to him. Her mouth twisted almost sadly as she nodded. ”Better pissed than dead,” she managed hoarsely. Oh she really got that. She knew that Dean wouldn’t though. That same protective streak that was forcing Sam to go it alone burned in Dean’s veins too. Alix didn’t imagine he’d stopped looking for Sam for a single minute. Alix sighed and ducked her head. ”I get it, I really do. I just don’t think they’re going to. No matter how many times you explain it to them. You all just want to keep each other safe.” That was where you always ended up on boggy ground but when you were already struggling to keep afloat the only way how, how much choice did you honestly have?
Sacrifice was something almost every hunter was familiar with, more prevalent amongst them than anything else. Other things seemed common though, male hunters being dogs included. Most would’ve pegged Dean just that way, maybe Sam too but Alix knew that both of them had depths to them. Being a father wasn’t something that Dean would’ve just brushed off and if it had happened for Sam too he wouldn’t have been joking around it the same way. Alix winged a red brow right back at him, a faint huff of amusement managing to slip out. ”That you know about,” she corrected him. ”There’s no way you lived your entire adult life as a monk.” Dean was even less likely to have done, even without the knowledge that he’d ended up a dad at some point. Some would’ve just looked at the eldest Winchester and seen nothing but a play-boy but Alix knew there was more to Dean than that. Sam knew it too and that knowledge of his brother seemed to be allowing him to stay one step ahead of Dean right now. ”Sometimes people will fool you,” she assured Sam, sucking in a breath. ”Good luck staying ahead of him.” She could’ve reached out but Alix knew she wouldn’t. Sam had trusted her enough to tell her the truth and despite her wanting to protect Sam, she wasn’t about to call Dean in and break his confidence.
Playing dirty didn’t extend to friends that way but it certainly did to hunting when she needed to. Becoming a werecoyote had burned her life to the ground but it had also given her the sort of abilities that meant she didn’t tire, she was stronger, she was faster. Green eyes narrowed up at Sam as she gave in to temptation and elbowed him in the gut. ”Not unless you want a taster. I don’t recommend it.” She’d been smiling about it still when the thought of the victim had struck her and the two of them took off for the garage at full pelt. Bile burned the back of Alix’s throat as Sam slipped his fingers against the woman’s throat, trying to find a pulse. He shook his head … oh God. The final nod had her letting out a shuddery breath. ”Thank God,” she whispered. Alix scrubbed her hands over her face, backing up a step as Sam lifted the woman out of the trunk. Her fingers tangled back in her hair, pulling it away from her face as his question went to go over her head. ”Yeah, yeah, I’ve got the truck.” A snort burst out of her before she could hold it back. ”Sorry, no seat adjustment in the truck, you’re gonna have to ride with your knees up around your ears sasquatch. Keep up.” Alix took off running, knowing that Sam wouldn’t dawdle. She’d parked four houses down from Christian’s home, in the driveway of a house that was up for sale, figuring she could always play home hunter if he came home. Tearing open the passenger door, she waved Sam into it.

Sam may have wanted to retire from the hunter life for years and years only to find that he was actually pretty good at it, and also that he had no choice. Sam was the first of his family to see monsters and creatures could also be worth saving and due to that he had always been the black sheep of the family. He however, knew that the life of the few out weighed the life of the many if deaths were inevitable. This time death was inevitable. Sam knew that he would always put his family above but especially himself.
The hunter had seen himself as a burden to his family and people around him. He saw himself as a curse and he didn't want to curse his family, or even worse the world. Sam knew that he would be hated by his family and a lot of others but he had to do this. He couldn't keep making fuck ups and dragging his family down. Sam wanted to give Dean, Ben, Bobby and John a chance of having a family life. Even if the younger Winchester wouldn't be there to experience it he would make it his dying wish like before. "The hunter code 'better pissed than dead.'"
The hunter knew she was right. He knew full well that she was saying was right but he didn't want to think about how many of them would be trying to stop him. He raised a brow and nodded "Well, true. I'm no monk." He just wanted to have children and give p the life. Sam was just like Mary in that respect. The only difference was that he knew that if he had any children that they would be vessels for Lucifer or Micheal and he wouldn't do that intentionally. As much as he wanted children he couldn't bring them up into the hunter life. Hunters were never children and he couldn't do his job impartially if he was worried about going home to a wife and child and that could lead to mistakes or even his death. The Winchester wasn't in denial about the impracticality of a family of hunters. "I however went to school long enough to know how to use protection unlike my brother and father. And,..." He pointed a finger to her "What doesn't know won't kill me."
It was so refreshing to have someone who knew him and dean. Being a wanderer from town to town not being known was hard sometimes. Hunting was like being a ghost; being there but never being seen or recognised and to be finally seen was a breath of fresh air. "Thanks I need it. If you see Dean tell him whatever you want, I won't think any different about you." He wanted her to do what she thought was best. The male hunter followed in her stead. He didn't know where he was going and followed quickly behind. His adrenaline had started to wean until she had mentioned the victim. Sam rushed into the car and flung his legs in and out of the two of them ;himself and the lady, he choose himself to be crunched up even if the woman was only just coming around. All they could really do was drop and run. There would be too many questions and suspicion raised that would be best avoided.

Hunters were masochistic. Selfish, masochistic assholes with huge hearts a lot of the time. They’d throw themselves on a grenade for the people they cared about, would take a bite from a werewolf, would go up empty handed against vampires and literally sign themselves over to an eternity in Hell to avoid one of their loved ones heading there instead. It was stupid, it left behind more pain than it prevented but Alix knew that if the chance was there to do the same for her brothers she would’ve taken it. Had taken it by running away and working for Ralphy rather than forcing Rohan to be the one to put her down. The thought of him having to, the way Dean might’ve had to be the one delivering that final blow to Sam, it left her nauseous. She huffed out the thinnest breathe of amusement at Sam’s words before her eyes rose to his. How did you say sorry for running away for three years without a word? Or apologise for heading off with the power of Hell humming in your veins?
You couldn’t. No more than you could make up for any of the other things you did. You just had to keep trying to balance the scales and not drive yourself into the ground doing it. God, kidding about Sam and the chance of him having a dozen kids out there was a way to avoid that inevitably slide back into the grim. Shaking her head, Alix let her lips curl into a grin. ”You’re a Winchester, it was bound to come with the territory.” Sam always had a sensible head on his shoulders though, probably reason enough for him to be trusted in what he was trying to do now. Alix held her hands up, pretending to reel away from the idea. ”I don’t need to hear any more details about that side of things, thanks,” she cautioned. She swallowed hard as Sam pointed a finger at her though, her eyes fixing on it before they rose up to his face. ”A bad choice of words Sam.” Her voice crooned out but the truth to it only added to the weight in her stomach as she thought of how Dean was going to react to the news that she’d seen Sam and had let him go. Alix crossed her arms over her chest, shrugging. ”He might if he finds out I was withholding though.” Dean had never seemed the sort to let that sort of betrayal go easily.
It wouldn’t matter that the two of them had run at the end of this to try and save a girl’s life, if Sam happened to slip away in the chaos at the hospital. It would only matter that she hadn’t dragged him back kicking and screaming. Alix pushed the thought from her mind as she rushed to her truck. She hopped in the front, her eyes on Sam and the woman squished in the back as she jammed the truck into gear. ”Is she bleeding? Did he hurt her before he got her to the house?” she asked, her voice hoarse. Smoothly she cycled up through the gears as she roared away from Christian’s house with that thin pall of smoke still hanging over it, roaring down the road in the direction of the hospital. ”He had to have knocked her out somehow to get her back to the house?” There was a groan from the backseat at least, a sign that had her breathing a little easier. Christian hadn’t killed his prey before taking her home for dinner. It didn’t mean he hadn’t done damage, only that him playing with his dinner like a kid might’ve ended up saving the woman’s life.

Sam Winchester:
Sam laughed as she said he was a Winchester, and it was bound to happen? After all, how did the Winchester line continue all these years? He hoped it wasn't all by Heaven and fate making it so that there would always be a host for an archangel; they had to have a hope to some free will. Then a thought hit him that he wished hadn't; was Ben a pawn from Heaven to ensure the apocalypse happened, even if he didn't play ball? Had his defiance caused something else? The male hunter hoped that he hadn't fathered a little of little Sammy's in case they also had to go down the path he had been forced with Dean. He wanted to leave something behind when he finally left the world, but he didn't like to contribute to the lineage of Cain and Abel, the Men of letters, not any of it but if he did he would want them to be ignorant of it.Sam knew more than most what betrayal did to Dean; after all, it was one of his biggest regrets every time he let his brother down. That was why Sam was giving her an out if she needed it. Sam suspected if the topic of their meeting would come up eventually, and he didn't want their encounter to affect Dean and Alix's relationship. Sam hoped that Alix would let him escape in the chaos and not try to bring him to Dean. After all the two had been through he didn't think she would do that to him, plus who could tell who would win? The hunter did a quick ABC check to see what caused the unconsciousness. He observed a painful lump on the woman's head, but that could have been from a fall or struggle. "He used either things or blunt force trauma." He did another scan to see if he missed anything. Apart from possible affixation from being within a bag inside a trunk, he couldn't find any other significant concerns. He shook his head. "No fresh open wounds. Slight bleeding from the back of the head from impact but nothing else." The only other tale sign was the lingering smell of alcohol, but that may have just helped the abduction. Names came with baggage. Being a Winchester might not’ve been such a bad thing at the start, or at least not seemed like it, but it seemed that in the time that had passed since the last time she’d seen them Sam and Dean had found that the name had far more pressure attached. Expectations, practically ending up pawns to whatever was going on with Heaven and Hell it seemed, taking after their dad and in Sam’s case maybe taking after Dean too. Alix’s own mouth twitched at the idea, a slightly sad tinge to her expression as she ducked her head an inch. She’d always wanted to be like her big brothers too, particularly Rohan. For years she’d begged to be able to do all that they did, had pushed and pushed for her parents to learn her join the rest of them on hunts and in the end she’d seen more than she’d wanted to. The universe had pushed her back for what she’d wanted. If it did with Sam too there could be a hundred kids just like him out there, with their dad’s good hair and lanky build.
Hopefully not his ability to get himself right in the middle of trouble on a cosmic scale. Swallowing hard at the thought, Alix tunnelled her hand back through her hair. It was great laughing about it but beneath all of that was a seriousness she could feel settling like a lead weight in her stomach. The two of them were walking paths on her own and she was pretty sure that sooner rather than later they were going to be paying for it. For now they were carrying on the way they always had, saving lives. The thought almost had her laughing but Alix knew if she let that amusement out at all it would likely end up border on a little hysteria.
Adrenalin had shot through her system the moment she’d recalled the way Christian had come back to his home. They’d rushed for the car, rushed to get the woman Christian had taken into her own vehicle. Sam was crammed in the back with her now and she watched in the rear view mirror as Sam checked her over. Green eyes flicked continually from the road to the rear view mirror. ”Great, if he didn’t mange to knock her out one way he probably had a back up plan.” Hopefully the hospital would be able to figure out which it was. With head injuries you had to be careful as it was. ”That’s a good sign,” she breathed. ”I guess he just wanted to take the fight out of her a little bit to get her into the house. There was signs he’d had some … fun in the basement. Leaving behind signs of what you did to the last one has to up the fear factor.” The thought stole a little colour from her face, flashes of bodies from other scenes in her mind, from a dark room that reeked of metal. It could’ve been her own blood, she’d shed that often enough.
Alix shrugged her shoulders against the seat, feeling the rough fabric of it grinding against the slightly more sensitive scarred skin of her shoulder. There’d been a time or two when she was in that woman’s position and each time it had filled her with a sense of dread as she’d woken up. She saw the lights of the hospital in the distance and lightened up on her speed a little. ”I take it you’re not coming in with me,” she said hoarsely. ”I’ll take her in, tell them that I found her at the side of the road. I’ll get out of there before the cops can get there.” Her mouth curled into a slight curve as she drew the car to a stop a half block from the hospital. ”Promise me you’ll take care of yourself Sam and remember, it’s never too late to call in the cavalry.” Leaning forward, she fumbled in the glove compartment, extracting one of her cards. Not the number she used exclusively for ‘hunting’, this was the one tethered to the other side of her life, those people who mattered. She twisted in the seat, holding it out to him.
