Born over 200 years ago, Marie-Jeanne grew up with her older brother Sebastien and was a natural hunter, albeit one who was skeptical about the existence of the supernatural. In 1764 she led a hunting party to kill the beast that had been attacking their village at her brother's request. Despite hunting the beast all day, it was only when dusk fell that the creature attacked. Marie-Jeanne was saved by Henri Argent who explained to her that the creature was a werewolf and he taught her how to fight them.
Marie-Jeanne eventually learned that Sebastien was actually the beast and she hunted him for three years before finally finding him and killing him with a steel spear tip in the shape of a fleur-de-lis mixed with Mountain Ash, Wolfsbane, and her own blood under the light of a full moon. With the help of the townspeople, Marie-Jeanne ensured that Sebastien's name would be forgotten and that he would be remembered simply as the beast that had attacked their village.
With Sebastien gone, Marie-Jeanne married Henri and the two of them started a family before she died a few years later leaving her husband and children to carry on what had become her legacy. She watched over them from the Other Side for centuries before being resurrected by someone who has kept their identity a secret so far and left her in the woods outside Mystic Falls. With the Dread Doctors stepping up their game, Marie-Jeanne may hold the key to figuring out who they are and what their goal is.
She is the first of the Argent doppelgangers, hunters who seem to be born in a time when the world needs them the most.
