This wasn’t anything she ever imagined she would’ve had again but what she thought she was going to get out of life and what she actually ended up with had never been the same. If things had gone the way she’d pictured before the war she’d have been married to some local lad and stuck at home raising kids, if they’d gone the way they’d looked to when war had broken out perhaps she’d have ended up working for the government, using her brain in the way she’d wanted to. If they’d gone the right way when her and George had come across those hunters they might’ve still been living in their village, raising children of their own. Things so rarely turned out exactly as you hoped. You picked yourself up, remembering your mother’s words, you dusted yourself off and you carried putting one foot in front of the other. Maybe, if you were lucky, what you imagined would somehow find you some way down the line. Olivia had considered herself Henrik’s friend when they’d first met but anything more, if it had been in her mind, in her heart, she hadn’t been ready to say it. It had taken Henrik’s admission to unlock the words and get her speaking again. It had taken him to have her hoping to hell that this time her life would be exactly as she wanted it. Her time had to come sometime right? Just as Henrik’s did?
He’d had to wait for the King of Hell to bring him back and reunite him with his family. That surely wasn’t anybody’s idea of ideal but without Crowley Henrik wouldn’t have been here at all. Olivia was sure the demon still had at least a few claws in him but Henrik seemed resigned to that, even after all the lies Crowley had told. She shook his head, drawing a long breath in. ”I would’ve said perhaps that would’ve been best for your family but I’ll never begrudge meeting you,” she murmured. ”It was what finally convinced me to stop running I think.” If someone who’d died a thousand years ago could start over again then she was capable of it too. Sweeping her thumbs gently over the lines of Henrik’s face, Olivia smiled at him. This was an opportunity for both him and his siblings. She’d have loved one of her own but that wish was unfair. They’d had lives without her there, marriage, families, eventually death. Olivia knew she had to just hold her head up and continue on her own now, the boldness born of that had her leading Henrik back towards her room. Her brows rose along with her grin. ”I’m right now, aren’t I?” she asked, allowing Henrik to draw her into a kiss. Olivia’s eyes slipped shut as Henrik drew her deeper into the kiss, making her head spin before they both came up for air. Her heart hammered into her throat, her arms tightening around him before she drew back and tangled her fingers in the hem of her t-shirt. ”I want you too, and this,” she promised, meeting his eye as she began to undress. ”Together.” Tossing her top aside she held her hand out to him again, pulling him down onto her bed.

Henrik had never thought that this would be his life, if things had worked out the way they were supposed to, he either would have stayed dead after he was attacked by werewolves a thousand years ago or if he had decided differently back then he would have had the chance to grow up, get married and start a family of his own with his human family around him. Things would have been so different but if that had happened then he knew that he would never have met Olivia, Allison, Lucy or any of the other people that he had come to care about. They were all born such a long time after he’d died and even though he knew that he could have been happy with someone if he had lived his life back then he knew that things definitely wouldn’t be how they were now. It had taken him a while to adjust to the way that everything had changed after Crowley brought him back but he had managed it and he had started feeling more and more like himself with each task that he completed. He had learned as much about magic as he could from the grimoires that Crowley had provided for him but he had never let the demon make him use his magic for anything bad. Even before he had felt confident enough to start thinking for himself more he had known himself well enough to know that he wasn’t going to let himself be steered down the wrong path. No matter what happened he knew that he wanted to stay the good person he liked to think that he had become and he knew that he wasn’t going to give in to the darkness that could sometimes come with magic use. Henrik had done a lot of things since he’d found his way to Mystic Falls but no matter what happened he knew that he wanted to stay true to who he was and Olivia certainly had a habit of keeping him grounded without even trying. Things would have been even more different if he’d known about his siblings right from the start after Crowley brought him back but he also knew that he probably wouldn’t have met Olivia or anyone else that had come into his life before he’d moved to Mystic Falls. If he had known about his siblings then there was a chance that he might never have found his way to the town in the first place and he knew that he was never going to regret the things that had happened after he was brought back to get him to where he was right now. “My siblings always have so much going on, the last thing any of them would have wanted was to add raising a teenager to it,” he shrugged. He wasn’t actually sure whether that was true or not but he couldn’t deny that it would have been strange learning just how much they had changed back then. Instead he’d had the chance to grow up and learn who he was before finding out what had happened to his family and he knew that he could at least help them now. “You are, for once,” Henrik teased, his smile playful as he looked over at Olivia. It was strange to think that just hours before they were just friends and nothing more but now things had progressed to something so much more than that. He had felt something for Olivia for a long time but it was only that day that he had worked up the courage to kiss her and now he knew that he had been an idiot for waiting so long. “Together,” he nodded, pulling his t-shirt over his head before joining Olivia on the bed.
Morning light was filtering in through the curtains when Henrik’s eyes opened once more and he quickly realised that the room he was in wasn’t his own. Every morning he had woken up in the same room in the apartment that he and Elijah shared and he had grown used to being the only one there given just how often Elijah had been staying with Tatia at the Boarding House but this time was different. He could feel that there was someone lying next to him and a smile touched his lips as he turned to look at Olivia, his fingers lightly running up and down her arm as he watched her sleep. She looked so peaceful lying there and he didn’t have the heart to wake her even as the memories of the night before came flooding back to him. OLIVIA CAMPBELL

Pride had sung through her when her eldest sister had announced that she was pregnant. Maud had been born 20 years before her youngest sister, marrying when Alice was just a year old. It had never seemed to take long for marriages to grow fruitful in those days. Within a year of being married she’d already started a family. Nine months later baby Jack had been born. Named for both her and her husband’s fathers, for her own brother. Olivia could picture herself now, sat as a two year old on the couch, warned to be careful with the new baby as he was placed carefully into her lap. She’d stared down at the baby, all red cheeks and big blue eyes. Her and Jack would grow up practically side by side. It had been the start of it all, babies had screamed their little lungs out in that living room for the next two decades before war had broken out and as she’d gotten older she’d helped out with them all. Boiling nappies, wringing them out with the mangle in the garden, never complaining one bit. She’d missed it bitterly when she’d left with George and had written that homesickness in the cards and letters to her. Some part of her had wanted to stay but her marriage had been a happy one and she wouldn’t have turned her back on that for anything.
Olivia imagined it would have been just the same for Henrik’s siblings. They might have had their own lives the better part of a decade ago but she doubted there was a single one of them who wouldn’t have set all that aside to raise him. No matter how much Henrik could picture them begrudging it, she knew they’d have all given their right arm to have their brother back. Shaking her head she touched his cheek softly. ”I can’t imagine any of them not wanting that opportunity,” she said lightly. ”Maybe this was the best way though. I’m going to be selfish and say it was the right time for me at least. For us.” There was an emphasis on the word she wasn’t ashamed of. She wouldn’t have been ready then, not for any of this, but this was another time and God, she was ready to grab onto it all with greedy hands and not let go. After their admissions to one another she hadn’t intended to be quite so greedy tonight but the opportunity had been there and she wanted this man. Her smile should’ve been bashful but it was beaming bright as she reeled him in. ”Always,” she corrected again. She would be right again now as she said every step of this was together. Just like that they tumbled to the mattress.
Mornings were usually her time alone in the bar. Padding down in bare feet, working her way through the stages of her business alone before she threw open the doors. Her sisters had always hated how she was a morning person but honestly, who wouldn’t be? Olivia felt the warmth of the sun in her room and in that pleasant space between waking and dreaming she basked in it. She stretched her toes out as she felt fingers trail feather light over her arm. Last night, a whirlwind that had settled into this warm tumble of wind, taking her off of her feet in a way nothing had for so long. Humming with delight at the thought Olivia stretched again, slowly rolling over, settling against the man in bed beside her. A delight she hadn’t had in decades. Her lips curved as she tucked herself against Henrik’s side. Hazel eyes blinked owlishly as she opened them to look up at him. ”Someone looks pleased with himself this morning,” she teased, touching her lips to the curve of his chest. ”Hi.” Her voice was soft with amusement, her lips curving further as she settled back.

Henrik knew that his life could have been so much different if he had known that his siblings were alive when Crowley brought him back but the truth was that the eight years he had spent living with the demon before he arrived in Mystic Falls hadn’t been bad in the least. He’d had the kind of father that he had always longed for, albeit one that wasn’t human, and even though he had hated every minute he had spent in Hell surrounded by the other demons in a way it had still felt like home. He had realised that it was time for him to start living his life for himself rather than for anyone else when he’d learned that his siblings were alive after all but Crowley would always be family to him and he didn’t regret that. He had thought about what life might have been like if he’d found his siblings years ago more than a few times but he knew deep down that it was probably a good thing that they hadn’t had to worry about looking after him. They had done enough of that before he died and he was glad that he hadn’t had to be a burden on them. By the time he’d found them he was able to stand on his own two feet and he was stronger than any of them would have thought possible so he knew that it was probably better that things had worked out this way. “If I hadn’t stayed with Crowley then I might never have met you,” Henrik admitted. “I was only in the town we met in because I had something to do for him. Otherwise our paths may never have crossed,” he added. Doppelganger blood had been needed to complete the ritual to free Nik’s werewolf side but if things had worked out differently then he might have never made his way to Mystic Falls and found Olivia again either and that was something that he didn’t even want to think about. They were both lucky that things had worked out the way they had done and he knew better than to think about the “what ifs” again. As she said that she was always right a smile worked its way across Henrik’s face and he shook his head in amusement before letting his lips meet hers once more.
Waking up in an unfamiliar room with someone next to him wasn’t something that Henrik was used to but as he began to recall the events of the night before it was enough to bring a smile to his face. The woman sleeping next to him wasn’t just anyone, it was Olivia, the woman that he was pretty sure that he had been falling for ever since she came back into his life. He had cared about her before that but before they found each other again in Mystic Falls he had never thought that he would ever get to see her again so he had refused to let himself get too close to her. Now they were both living in Mystic Falls and they were free to live their lives as they wanted. Olivia had finally felt ready to move on and Henrik had felt ready to take that next step. It was incredible to think just how quickly one impulsive kiss could change everything, and his first kiss at that, but if he was honest he was glad that they had both finally come clean about what was going on between them because now it meant that they had a real chance at being together and he knew that that was a chance that he wanted to take more than anything. Wrapping his arms around Olivia as she settled against him, Henrik kissed the top of her head gently as she said he looked pleased with himself. “What can I say, waking up next to you just put me in a good mood,” he admitted before tilting her chin so that he could place a gentle kiss to her lips. “Hi,” he said, brushing her hair away from her face as his eyes met hers. “No regrets about what happened last night?” he asked, knowing that he just needed to make sure. It was strange to consider that all of this had started with the King of Hell sending out the young man he’d plucked from heaven on a mission. Henrik had taken the final step to cement what was between the two of them, but as he’d said the night before, in those final moments before she had taken him to bed, if he hadn’t stayed with Crowley then chances were they would never have met. The world was an insanely big place, she could’ve ended up on the other side of it from Henrik, taking perhaps another forty years to find someone to open her heart, if she found anybody at all. She’d have to thank Crowley for that, Olivia realised, if he ever showed his face around here. Given his closeness to Henrik she imagined that she’d have the opportunity to do that eventually. A talk with the King of Hell, good lord.
The thought was enough to boggle the mind but luckily for her the curve of Henrik’s smile pushed the thought from her mind. Her own curled just as much as she kissed Henrik’s chest, a trace of laughter working its way through her words as she settled back against him. Her arm slipped around Henrik’s waist beneath the covers as his came around her, pulling her close and letting him kiss the top of her head. ”I’m glad to hear it,” she told him. ”It would’ve been awkward if it was the oppostite.” Not that she’d ever done this with enough regularity to be the voice of experience. This was only the second time she’d woken up someone in this way … the morning after that first night. With George it had been on their wedding day, times and circumstances very different then.
All of this she’d never imagined she’d find again, let alone with someone like Henrik. Her thumb stroked lightly over his side as he brushed her hair back from her face to meet her eyes. Olivia’s lips curled further as she shook her head. ”None at all. Last night was more than I ever thought I would have again with somebody, there’s no way to regret that, or the fact that I’ve met someone incredible.” Her grin edged into a smirk as she leaned up to steal a kiss. ”Someone whose ego won’t outgrow the room with me saying that.” Henrik wasn’t like so many other men she’d met over the years and that was one of the things that had first drawn her to him. Supportive, caring, generous beyond what so many others were capable of … after a thousand years of existence, even if most of that was up in Heaven, after passing the way he had and being raised by the King of Hell afterwards, there was still someone so pure beneath. It made her heart ache a little in her chest. ”How about you?” she asked softly, her gaze fixing on his. She suspected she already knew the answer but she wasn’t about to leave it only a suspicion now.

Henrik had thought that he would only end up having a quiet night at the bar before heading home the same way he usually did but that evening Olivia had invited him up to her place for a drink and everything had spiralled from there. He knew that they could have easily just had a drink and then gone their separate ways but his urge to kiss Olivia had ended up getting the better of him and from there the floodgates had opened and they had eventually admitted what was really going on between the two of them. They had been friends for a while and they had keep spending more and more time together ever since they found each other again in Mystic Falls and from there something more had started to develop between them but Henrik was still completely new to all of this so he hadn’t known what to do about it or how to really express what he was feeling. He knew that Olivia didn’t really have that much more experience than he did, after all she had ended up marrying the first man she loved and he knew that she hadn’t felt ready to open herself up to anyone after that but she had let him in and he knew that he was never going to be able to thank her enough for that. This was something that he had never thought that he would get to have and he was pretty sure that he was falling for her but right now he knew that he just wanted to take it one step at a time and see where things were going to go between the two of them. He never would have expected things between them to go as far as they had but it truly had ended up being a night of firsts for him and he was glad that he had been able to share them with Olivia. He had never felt like this about anyone before and even though they were still figuring things out he would be lying if he said he didn’t see the two of them having a future together. He hadn’t thought that he would get to see Olivia again when the two of them parted ways but they had found their way back to each other and now something more had happened between the two of them and he knew that he didn’t want to go back to the way that things used to be. “It never would have been the opposite,” he assured her. “I’ve wanted to tell you how I feel for a long time,” he admitted. He had liked her the first time they met and that feeling had only intensified after they found each other again so he was confident that there never would have been a different outcome. The idea of finding someone like this had been taken from him the day he died and he had known that he was fortunate to have been given another chance at life but he had never felt luckier than he did right now. The feeling of Olivia’s thumb brushing over his side was enough to bring a smile to his face and he kissed her back happily. “You don’t need to worry about that with me,” he grinned. He knew that he was still learning when it came to all of this and he knew that he might end up making a few mistakes along the way but he knew that he wanted to give it a chance and he was glad that Olivia seemed to want that as well. As she turned the question back around on him, Henrik shook his head. “None at all,” he promised. “I don’t want this to be a onetime thing either, I want to be with you,” he added, hoping that Olivia wanted the same. Some women found a dozen men to love before they stumbled upon the one. Some found a hundred, the right one never coming along for them, if they even wanted to find the right one in the first place. Her sister May had been a little like that. Their mum had always worried about her ending up alone but she’d just taken her own sweet time with it, not settling down until she was 40. It had never been like that for her, it had never been that Romeo and Juliet thing of full on love at first sight either. Both times she’d been friends with the person first, falling for George and Henrik so slowly she hadn’t been sure she’d even realized it at first. Olivia knew she was lucky to have found that twice, to have loved twice. She wasn’t ready to admit that now, not after just a single night with Henrik but she knew what that warmth beneath her breastbone meant.
It was love. As simple as that.
Allowed free after their talk last night, after that kiss, the doors that had hidden it deep opening up a little more with each passing moment.
One corner of Olivia’s mouth drew up into a crook smile as she shook her head up at him. ”For some it changes things the wrong way,” she said softly. ”It happened to one of my sisters, although none of us really liked her first husband.” Her sister had saved herself for marriage and then it had all gone drastically downhill from there. Olivia ran her thumb along the line of his ribs. ”Me too. I guess we were both waiting for that right moment.” Then it had hit like an anvil, knocking them both on their asses in the best way.
Olivia smiled against his mouth, feeling that warmth radiating from her chest to her stomach now. After George there’d been no guarantee this would ever happen again but it had and she was so grateful for it. ”I know,” she whispered softly, dropping a kiss on the corner of his mouth, then his jaw. ”I may have to blow your ego up to grandiose proportions though, because you are amazing.” Blessed was honestly the word she was going to have to use for herself now, a night and day contrast to the feeling she’d had before that somehow she’d been cursed after those years of happiness with George.
For a moment she looked into Henrik’s eyes, her expression hesitant but serious, then she was fumbling for his hand under the sheets, bringing it up to her lips to kiss his palm. ”It won’t be,” she promised with absolute certainty. ”I want to be with you too. I want us.” Olivia drew in a deep breath, squeezing his hand as she settled against him with a happy sigh. ”I also want pancakes, but honestly, I don’t know if I can move from here yet.” A chuckle rolled out of her as she settled their joined hands on his stomach. Nope, she definitely wasn’t going to go anywhere for a little while, not when she wanted this feeling to last.

Henrik knew deep down that he shouldn’t have this chance to be happy and a part of him couldn’t shake the feeling that it could be taken away from him at any moment but at the end of the day he had already had his life taken away from him once so he knew that he had to make the most of every chance that he had. His siblings were immortal and so was Olivia, they had so many years ahead of them but right now he was mortal and that was something that had been weighing on his mind a lot lately. He knew that sooner or later he was going to have to make a decision but for now he didn’t want to think about that. Right now all he wanted to do was focus on Olivia and if he was honest the talk that they’d had the night before had given them both the chance to get a lot of things off their chests. Something had been building between them for a while and even if it did only end up being a short lived thing like he feared it might, Henrik knew that he wanted to make the most of it while it lasted. He had never felt like this about anyone before, things were completely different before he died and after Crowley brought him back there hadn’t been any time for anything like that, nor would he have wanted to drag anyone else into that world. Henrik knew that things were different now, he wasn’t at Crowley’s beck and call any longer and he was building a life for himself for the first time since he had been brought back and he knew that he wasn’t going to let anything stop him from doing just that. “I’m glad that hasn’t happened for us,” Henrik admitted. He had never done anything like this before and like Olivia had figured out he hadn’t even kissed anyone before her so he hadn’t known what was going to happen when the effect of the moment they had gotten caught up in had passed but Henrik knew that there wasn’t anywhere else that he would rather be. Olivia wasn’t just anyone to him. He cared about her deeply, in fact he was pretty sure that he loved her, but he wasn’t ready to admit the second part of that yet. This was all still so new to him and he knew that it was going to take some time for him to get his head around the fact that he hadn’t just dreamed the whole thing but now they had both finally come clean with each other he knew that there really wasn’t anything stopping them from making a go of it. “We were. Now I’m glad I plucked up the courage to kiss you,” he said, a smile working its way across his face as Olivia ran her thumb over his ribs. Even if that was the only kiss they’d shared he had known that he’d wanted Olivia to be his first kiss so it had been a calculated risk as far as he was concerned and it was one that seemed to have paid off better than he ever could have hoped for. “So are you,” Henrik said, shifting position to press a gentle kiss to her lips. Things could have so easily ended up completely differently but this was better than he ever could have hoped for and he knew that he wasn’t ready for it to come to an end. Opening up like this wasn’t something that Henrik had ever been very good at but he had let Olivia get closer to him than anyone else ever had before so it was important to him that she knew that he didn’t want it to be a onetime thing and he believed her as she said that it wouldn’t be. “You hesitated, why?” he asked, knowing that it would eat away at him if he didn’t ask the question now. Henrik wrapped his arms around Olivia as she settled against him and he kissed the top of her head gently. “I want us too,” he said sincerely before laughing as she spoke again. “I’m definitely not ready to move from here yet,” he grinned, knowing that the last thing he wanted was to find out that this had all been nothing more than a dream. Sweet. It had been the overwhelming impression she’d gotten from Henrik the first time the two of them had met. What the two of them had been doing by necessity, for the King of Hell on his part, never would’ve been imagined in the same realm of the word but Henrik had been. Seeing him here again in Mystic Falls had made her realise just how much of an impression he’d made on her before they’d have to go their separate ways. She hadn’t imagined where that first reunion would take them at the time but she should’ve known that if Henrik had felt the stirrings of something for her like she had for him, he wouldn’t back down from saying something.
Olivia smiled at the thought, her fingers trailing the line of one of his ribs beneath the thin cover of the sheets. He certainly hadn’t backed down in the end, plunging on despite his nerves. She laid her head on his chest now, listening to the muffled thump of Henrik’s heart. The nerves on both sides seemed to have faded away, leaving behind just a certainty that the step they’d taken last night was entirely right for the both of them. ”Me too,” she admitted softly. ”I can promise you they would’ve liked you.” Her smile took on a nostalgic edge. It was so easy to picture her sisters gathered together in the kitchen doorway the same way they had with George, Alice giving Henrik the wink of approval.
Shifting, Olivia propped her chin on Henrik’s chest for a moment, her leg draping over his as she grinned back at him. How long would she have waited before she’d given in and kissed him first? Weeks, months? Would she have sat on the fence so long that he’d left town again without her saying a word? Maybe. It didn’t matter either way now though, he had plucked up the courage and he’d kissed her last night. She kissed him back, touching her lips softly to his cheek. ”Your timing was pretty perfect,” she admitted. The avalanche the kiss had started might still have been rumbling away but she wasn’t going to complain about that. ”My ego’s going to be grandiose now.” There was a laughed warning in her tone that trailed off as Henrik shifted and kissed her again. She’d been kidding of course, keeping the tone in the dimly lit bedroom light until his assurance that he didn’t want this to be a one night thing had her going silent.
She hadn’t meant to but the words had surprised her a little. Her throat aching with happiness, Olivia sought his lips out with her own, kissing him fiercely for a moment. ”Because I can’t believe how lucky I am,” she admitted, curling back up against him, his arms around her. ”Some people never get this, I’ve had it twice.” It was a blessing, one she wasn’t going to pass up. ”Us it is then,” she whispered. Olivia let out a small, happy sound, resting her head back on his shoulder, settling in against his side. ”I don’t have to open up until 12.30 for the lunch crowd. Will you stay until then?” She’d trail down just in time, probably fresh out of the shower and absolutely unable to hide the grin that kept tugging at her lips.

Henrik really wasn’t sure when his feelings for Olivia had changed to something more than friendship, perhaps he had always liked her as more than a friend but it had taken him a while to admit that. He had been through so much, he had lost so much, but he knew that he wasn’t the only one. Olivia had loved and lost before as well and Henrik knew that just about anything could happen to tear them apart right now but he was done hiding from the way he felt about Olivia. He loved her and he knew that he didn’t want to spend another moment acting like he didn’t even if he wasn’t quite ready to say those words out loud just yet. The day before had ended up taking a surprising turn but now they were both able to be honest with each other and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. “I’m glad,” he admitted gently, a half smile touching his lips as he kissed Olivia’s shoulder gently. “You already know Elijah likes you and I know the rest of my family will as well.” They all had their own stuff going on but Olivia meant the world to him and Henrik knew that he wanted to make sure that his two worlds mixed more often from now on. As it was Henrik wrapped one arm around Olivia as she rested against his chest while his free hand came to rest on her leg, enjoying being this close to her after denying that he had feelings for her for so long. Kissing Olivia had been a big step for him, it had been his first kiss and it had been incredible but spending the night together was something so much more and he knew that he didn’t want this to be the only time they did this. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to keep you grounded,” Henrik chuckled even though he knew that it really wouldn’t be a problem for Olivia. She had always been pretty level headed and he knew that wouldn’t change. Henrik hadn’t been able to miss the way that Olivia had hesitated but then her lips were on his and he kissed her back just as fiercely. “I’m lucky too. I might not have had this before but I know how much I want this,” he said gently. He had never felt this way about anyone before but Olivia had made him realise that he did deserve to be loved and somewhere along the way he had earned her affection. He knew that he was lucky and he also knew that he didn’t want to waste a moment of it. As she agreed with him, Henrik kissed the top of her head gently. “I’ll stay for as long as you’ll have me,” he nodded, knowing that there wasn’t anywhere else that he would rather be. Her family, well, her brothers and sisters, might have been gone for years, but they’d imprinted themselves on her. Olivia didn’t think she’d gone a day without considering what they would’ve thought of what happened, if they would’ve welcomed her home and accepted the crazy truth that she was something that could moved the earth itself, who could choose not to age. All those little bits of wisdom and those tiny moments that made up who they’d been hoarded in her brain like she could bring them alive with them. She imagined that was all Henrik had for the centuries he’d been up in Heaven. Castiel had filled a gap of sorts, at least until Crowley had freed him but those substitutes weren’t always the same. Having his family back must’ve meant so much. Olivia’s smile softened as Henrik kissed her shoulder, her fingers still tracing circles on his side. ”I’m glad to hear it. I can’t wait to meet them all.” There was something special in seeing how others saw the people you loved. In the village she’d watched as George was welcome back like the prodigal son. The love in their eyes, their relief at seeing him. Knowing Henrik and how his family had apparently taken his death, she imagined she would see the same thing there too. Now she watched as Henrik looked at her, her smile curling slowly as he rested his hand on the leg she’d thrown across him. The two of them had been close before but last night had brought an unexpected intimacy, one she wasn’t sure she would be able to step back from even if she had wanted to. ”Like my kite string,” she murmured, trailing her finger up the dip in the centre of his chest like she was tracing his. ”Ready to stop me from flying away. It’s appreciated.” Pulling a full on Icarus hadn’t been her intention in coming to Mystic Falls. This had been more like a test flight, slowly getting used to being behind the controls again, preparing to maybe fly a little higher one day, once she was sure she was capable of it. Henrik had already taken her soaring higher than she’d thought she was ready for. He might still have been anxious about it but she wasn’t, she felt that certainty bubble up in her gut that she poured into the kiss she pressed to his lips. ”That makes me even luckier,” she drawled lightly as they settled back. ”Having you want this as much as you do. It’s a bonus.” Not that she would’ve responded last night if she had thought it was one sided. This was about holding onto Henrik’s hand through that first toe dip into the pool, seeing how deep they wanted and could go together. And plunging in up to her neck happily. She’d learned to swim in the public baths in Hornsey, her brother Jack encouraging her to jump. There’d been a thrill as she’d gone under, bubbles rising up like the fizz in a bottle. She felt them now as she tipped her head back up, still feeling the imprint of his lips on top of her head. ”You might regret saying that,” she warned with a chuckle. Tugging at the sheets she slipped back atop him, dipping down to press her lips to his. That was going to give them plenty of time for another bout before she had to get herself into work mode. ~~~~~~~~ Fade to black~~~~~~~~
