If it were any other man their number would have been blocked and deleted months ago. Erased off all social media and more importantly erased from her mind. Leah was the one who cut people off, not the other way around. But Remzi was the one who’d brought out the scissors first. His number was still saved in her phone, but she hadn’t spoken to him since she saved him in the woods. She was struggling to accept their situationship (or whatever the fuck they were) was over, but it was apparent they were never going to go back to how they were. Work was the perfect distraction for her. Elias had been waving his fancy stick around, barking orders at the other reapers about the virus and horse riders. Leah didn’t give a shit about the horse riding freaks. She did a quick headcount of all the people she cared about and they were all still present in Mystic Falls. That headcount was one. It was just Remzi. She also checked Raik was still knocking around too, for Remiz’s sake. The large muscle mass was still pouring drinks at Campbells Bar. Outside of that she didn’t really care who was being taken. They weren’t her problem. But it wasn’t something she could say to Elias because he’d get his knickers in a twist and probably get all angry. The second bit was alluring, but also not worth it. So she pretended to give a shit about the virus. Cassie was her saving grace, telling Leah she was working on something because Hector was infected. Perfect. It meant she could drink the bar dry without him harassing her about her tab. To top it off the lanky Canadian had been fired too, which was even better. The loneliness caused by Remzi’s departure had almost become too much for Leah. Too much time alone with her own thoughts was dangerous, plunging her into a pit of despair. She had countless days left on earth, but she was doomed to spend them alone. When she started out as a reaper she was happy to go through life on her own, but then Remzi wormed his way in, leaving a dent on her heart. Regardless, it had driven her to download a dating app and agree to meet a man in Campbells Bar. Thank fuck he didn’t live in Mystic Falls, so she didn’t need to worry about him thinking it would development into something more than a one night stand. After a few hours of drinking she was able to drag him off the Ruby Slipper Club. There was a new face behind the bar in the club though. She could probably squeeze a few drinks out of him for the evening, telling him Hector was cool with it. Usually she’d say that then suggests the person go and check with Hector, if they wanted to. They never did. “Two shots of sambuca, a double gin and tonic and a bottle of cider.” She yelled to the new employee over the music. Her date reached forward, tapping his card to pay for the drinks. She knocked back her shot, as did her date. With a smile on her face she reached up, brushing her thumb over his lower lip to gather the remnants of sambuca off his lips. With her thumb, she parted his lips and his tongue trailed over her skin. Just as they stepped away from the bar another two figures appeared next to them. The sambuca rushed back from the pit of stomach, but she managed to swallow it back. Remzi with another fucking girl. What the fuck? REMZI DURMAZ

━ like sisyphus pushing that rock uphill ━ REMZI FELT LIKE HE WAS FLOATING THROUGH his life most days, but especially now. He had a “job” again, at least, so that was something to do during the day━something to keep him away from Ayla and her whining. He hadn’t spoken to Leah since the night she saved his life, and he fucking missed her. It was obvious she still gave a shit about him━more than any woman (other than his mom) ever had━but she didn’t want him anymore. Not while Ayla was around. The worst part was that he didn’t want Ayla around, but now he was fucking stuck like this. Sometimes, he thought it’d be better if something terrible happened and she had to go back to Turkey━even if one of her siblings died or some shit. Nah, that was terrible.
Some nights, he had nothing to do, and others, he needed an excuse to get to the club. He had to be open to selling, but also appear inconspicuous, so he dragged along some girl he’d met the last time he visited his brother at work. She showed up wearing next to no clothes, so he figured he’d at least have something to do when he went home at the end of the night.
He hadn't expected to see Leah at the bar. He hadn’t expected his heart to squeeze in his chest when he saw her━even before he realized she was with someone. Like, with him━all over him and shit. Remzi quickly corrected his expression, laughing at whatever the dumb bitch said and leaning over to compel free drinks from the bartender. He ordered them both shots, and turned his back to Leah and her man as they took them.
Purposefully, of course, Remzi threw his head back a little too far, and stepped back with the movement, stumbling directly into the dude Leah was with. The shot glass clattered to the bartop as he turned, getting up in the guy’s face. “You fuckin’ push me, man?” He hissed, then let his eyes drift to Leah like he was just noticing her. A smirk crept onto his lips. “Shit, you’re here with her?” He motioned to Leah, taking a small step back, his own date plastered to his side. “Never mind, man━you got bigger problems. Good luck with that shit,” He scoffed, nodding upwards at Leah by way of greeting. “Been missin’ me?” He asked like he hadn’t cried in her lap the last time he saw her, holding onto Leah as if━no, she was his safe place, his lifeline.

Some of the shit that went down between Leah and Remzi was never spoken about. Like the fact that the last time they saw each other they hugged each other and cried. They didn’t exchange any words, just cried in silence. Nor did they speak about how when Leah told Remzi his brother had died they sat outside Whitmore House crying. Leah wasn’t sad about Raik dying, but she was sad for Remzi. He had been the only person who’d managed to stir an ounce of empathy in her. Before Remzi she’d never experienced that sickening feeling you get when you see someone you don’t want to see. The feeling that made you want to throw up and hide away. She felt that when she spotted Remzi in the club, cursing herself in her mind for being naive by thinking he wouldn’t be there. It hit even harder when she saw the girl with Remzi. She didn’t let the disappointment wash over her face though, keeping a smile on her face and trying to keep her attention on her date. It was difficult when Remzi had lodged himself behind her date though. Then he stepped back, pushing into her date who stumbled a little before spinning around. Her eyes narrowed at Remzi as he acknowledged her, drifting towards his date briefly. Why was she secretly enjoying his cocky attitude? “Why would I be missing someone like you?” She leaned in toward her date a little, her attention trailing off to the girl who was glued to Remzi’s side who was giving Leah daggers. “You okay? You look a little unwell.” The girl opened her mouth to respond, but instead she vomited on the floor. “Oh dear. You best run off to the bathroom. Clean yourself up.” The girl looked at Remzi in shock before scurrying off through the crowd. “Oops.” Leah looked at Remzi, her lips twisting into a cold smirk. Leah glanced up at her date, effortlessly sliding into his mind to alter what memories he had about what just happened with Remzi. Sadly he had just become a chess piece in Leah and Remzi’s games. The man stepped forward, closing the gap, leaving only inches between him and Remzi. “Did you just threaten me?” His hands came up, slamming hard into Remzi’s chest. Leah could already see the bouncers moving through the crowd towards them. Leah locked her focus on Remzi, causing a small amount of blood to drip from his nose. Turning the tears on had never been easy, but she managed to squeeze a few tears out by the time the bouncers appeared. “This man has just hit my date for no reason.” She stood by Remzi’s side, gesturing at her date. The bouncers grabbed hold of the man, dragging him off through the crowd. As he was leaving Leah mouthed, “Call me.” Mimicking putting a phone to her ear. As soon as the bouncers were out of sight, she wiped her tears away. “Here you go.” She handed the abandoned bottle of cider to Remzi before taking her own drink, “I think your date is gonna be out of action for the evening… wanna dance?” She asked with a smile on her face. It was just like old times. REMZI DURMAZ
