— this is a cruel world & i expect very little from it —
Sebastian couldn't get used to it. The loneliness, how quiet it was. It was so quiet in a way that was so loud. He hated it. He hated every fucking moment of it. But there was no way out of that damned place. He had tried every possible way, he'd stayed awake for as long as he could to see that if, by any chance, anything would change or something would pass that could possibly take him out of there, but nothing ever changed, everything stayed the same.
But, each day, he explored the train station for anything that could possibly help him find a way out of there. There was one room that always captured his attention, but it was always locked. Eventually, Sebastian had managed to find a way to open the door and inside, there was a room full of controls. “What good does this do?” Sebastian mumbled under his breath before turning around to head out of the room only to stop when he found an old telephone. Sebastian frowned slightly when he saw the wire disappear somewhere but he just couldn't find where the wire was going.
Sebastian approached the device warily before lifting the handset to his ear and when he heard nothing but loud static, he pulled the device away from his ear with a grimace. Sebastian's hand hovered for a moment above the dialer before he made a trial to call Cassandra despite knowing that it was fruitless and the call was most likely never going to go through.
Only for him to hear a very, very quiet ring.
Sebastian's eyes widened when he heard it. “Cassandra?” He called out when he realized he hadn't a second ring. Please. Please. Please. Sebastian begged again and again for the call to go through. “Please tell me you can hear me. Are you there?” Sebastian continued calling out despite being aware that there was a good chance that Cassandra couldn't even hear him. “This is stupid...” Sebastian mumbled but despite saying that, he made no move to close the line and instead let the handset rest against his ear still.
He'll just... give it a few more seconds.

For the last few months Cassandra hadn’t been able to shake the feeling that something was missing from her life. Penny was out there somewhere living her own life as she pleased and Cassandra knew that she had to give her sister the space to do that but it felt like someone else should be there with her. She had spent years trapped on the Other Side longing to get back to the land of the living so she could reunite with her sister and someone else but she couldn’t seem to put her finger on who that other person was no matter how hard she tried. One thing was for sure, though, Cassandra knew that she loved that person. She might not be able to remember who they were but she could remember the feeling of loving them and being loved by them in return and that was something that she had been holding onto. She had heard about mysterious disappearances going on around Mystic Falls, of things that no one could explain happening in homes that were meant to have been empty for a while, and she was determined to figure out what was going on. It had taken her a while to track down the grimoire she had relied on so much before she died, she had left it with a friend when she had sensed that something bad was going to happen so that Penny wouldn’t have to do anything with it, and ever since she got it back she had been trying to find anything that would work to restore what had to be missing memories. So far nothing had worked but she felt like she was close. Over the last few weeks she had been seeing things, things that she knew didn’t belong to her showing up in her room and the place she was staying but she couldn’t quite place who they belonged to. It was almost like the name was on the tip of her tongue but whenever she tried to speak it, no words would come. Even while she was working at the Salvatore School she could swear she heard a familiar voice calling her name but whenever she turned around to see who it was, no one was there. There was a part of Cassandra that wondered whether she was starting to lose her mind but she knew that there had to be more to it than that. She was a witch and growing up in the community she had done she’d grown used to strange things going on so she knew that she just needed to get to the bottom of what this was. That day she was just finishing up with one of the students when her phone rang and she pulled it out of her pocket as she closed the door behind them. It had taken her a while to get used to using the thing at first and it hardly ever rang but this time she answered without even checking the caller ID. Chances were it was probably Penny checking in or Kara asking if she was free for coffee so she didn’t really think much of it but this time all she was met with was static. “Hello?” she said, trying to listen through the noise for any sign that there was someone on the other end. She was about to hang up when she heard a voice on the other end of the phone, the same one that she’d heard calling out to her before. “I’m here,” she breathed, not sure whether she was imagining this right now. “Who is this?”SEBASTIAN GRAVES

Sebastian let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding at the sound of Cassandra's voice. "Cassie..." Sebastian breathed out, his voice coming out choked up as he fought to keep his tears at bay as a rush of emotion nearly swept him off his feet. Sebastian lifted the receiver away from his ear to calm down for a moment before he quickly pressed it against his ear. "It's... My name is Sebastian." Sebastian trailed off, still struggling to keep the emotions out of his voice. "You probably do not remember me right now, but you and I..." Sebastian sniffed and finally grasped the reigns of control over his own voice. "We go way back." Sebastian added in a quiet voice, closing his eyes for a moment as he forced himself to ignore the way that his heart ached so much in his chest.
"You have no idea how much I've missed the sound of your voice." Sebastian sat down on the squeaky chair in front of the phone, one hand lifting to wipe his tears away as he let out a quiet sigh. "I know this might sound very strange, but could you..." Sebastian paused for a moment, pressing the receiver closer to his own ear. "Could you keep talking to me for a little while longer? I wish to savor the sound of your voice seeing as I do not know for how long we'll stay connected like this."

Cassandra knew something strange was going on right now, she rarely got calls given that she didn't know too many people that well yet but the moment she heard the voice on the other end of the line she recognised it even if she couldn't place who it belonged to. She had heard that voice recently, it was the one she had heard calling her name while she was working at the Salvatore School but it still didn't make any sense. She couldn't shake the feeling that she was missing some of her memories, memories of someone she loved more than life itself. Cassandra was used to being on her own but something inside of her told her that wasn't how it should be and it definitely wasn't how she wanted it to be. The way he called her Cassie was enough to make her heart ache and she knew that this had to be someone who was close to her because everyone else called her by her full name instead. It had been such a long time since anyone had last called her that but there was something so familiar about the person this voice belonged to calling her that and she knew she had to get to the bottom of what was going on. With each passing moment she was feeling less like she was losing her mind and more like she had lost something else entirely. "Sebastian," she repeated as he told her his name, closing her eyes for a moment as she tried to recall the connection. Just saying the name out loud made her feel like it was a name she had said more than a few times in the past and for a moment a face appeared behind her closed eyelids. She could see a handsome face with dark hair and piercing eyes but in her mind they were full of nothing but love. "I don't remember you but I feel like I should," she admitted, wishing she could see him so she could see if her vision of him was right. "Are you okay?" she asked gently as she heard him sniff, her voice full of concern as she spoke. She still didn't know how they were connected but she knew that she cared about this person, that she loved him, even if she couldn't remember right now. It was like muscle memory and she was determined to hold onto it. As Sebastian said he'd missed the sound of her voice, Cassandra's heart ached once more. "It probably sounds crazy but I feel like I've missed the sound of your voice too," she admitted, knowing that those words were true even as she said them out loud. "I heard your voice calling out to me at work the other day," she breathed. It hadn't made sense then but it was starting to. As he asked if she could keep talking, Cassandra was about to ask what was going on when he said he didn't know how long they would be able to stay connected for and she instantly felt herself begin to panic a little. "No, you can't disappear again," she protested even though she had a feeling it wouldn't be his choice to do that. In that moment Cassandra felt her eyes sting and she realised there were tears rolling down her cheeks. "Please Sebastian, tell me what's going on? Where are you?" she asked, the picture of the man she had seen beginning to grow stronger. "I might not remember you or our past but I love you, I can feel it." SEBASTIAN GRAVES
