”So we’ll see you in nine months for her booster shots.” Rhiannon offered Bunny’s anxious looking owner a reassuring smile. First time puppy owners always seemed as nervous as first time parents, terrified that they were going to do something wrong. Bunny’s yap and hopping leap up her legs – Bunny by name and nature – made it clear that so far there was absolutely no cause for concern. They were getting along just fine. ”And you behave,” she crooned to the terrier. ”Paw.” Oh, Bunny knew exactly what treats were. The dog plopped down immediately, one poor waving in the air until she gripped it and then the treat vanished almost in an instant.
”Bye,” Rhi called after Bunny’s owner a moment later as she was tugged out the door by Bunny. Good luck to them both. She grinned, following in their wake to flip the sign to closed on the front door of the clinic. At least her last client of the day had been a positive one. There was nothing better than that puppy breath smell.
Rhi bent and scruffed her fingers behind Ptolemy’s ears as she made her way back to the counter. Her other hand unfurled, offering up a treat on her palm. ”We’ll head out in a minute. You can run in the woods then, okay?” The dog sprawled flat again, crunching on the treat, but Rhi was sure she saw the acceptance of the bargain in Ptolemy’s dark eyes.
These days their schedule was geared around the three of them. Her, Ptolemy and Storm. She’d not anticipated a change like that in her life when she’d been battling through the transition to civilian life and upping sticks to move across country, but having seen what had been done to Storm by his father, there was no way she was going to leave him out there on his own. Storm had been a good employee from the start, and had gone back to that now that he was settled somewhere safe again.
Rhi left the door open between the exam room and the reception area of the clinic, making her way back towards the large room at the rear where she’d left Storm topping up food and water for their overnight borders – thankfully only two of them tonight. ”That was the last one,” she called out to Storm. Her smile tugged at her wide mouth as she stepped in. ”If you’re all done in here we can get going soon. I figured maybe we’d take a drive out near the falls on the way back home. Give Ptolemy a chance to stretch his legs. Maybe try out that new camera of yours if you want to.” Storm had spoken about his love of the woods on the first day she’d taken him home.
The detective probably wouldn’t see why she’d want to head out there considering so many had gone missing or had been found under tragic circumstances out there, but she’d spent enough time in far more dangerous places to know that she was probably safer there than in a lot of places. Maybe she’d email him this weekend, see how the freeloader was doing. By now she imagined Detective de la Peña had already started to cave on those salmon treats, stubbornly lecturing the cat for it every time a piece was offered, but it would be passed over all the same.

Storm was finally truly happy after the terrible incident. He made himself deceased by vanishing and living feral wasn't easy as he thought. Even as a fox it was hard. Raiding bins every night was the only way he was able to survive. He even bumped into his old history teacher. The one who understood what he was going through. He wanted to tell someone about the abuse for so long, but he was way too scared. Storm didn't tell anyone but he remembered what happened that fatal night, and secretly he enjoyed it. He never felt so powerful before, even though he killed
Working hard he sat down with one of the dogs and stroked them I am finally free, I have the best family now he filled the food bowls and provided fresh water, while no one was around he put two pieces of the dog kibble in his mouth and he chewed it. He heard rhiannon and smiled sounds good to me, I just finished here myself. Everyone was fed he spoke about. Storm wasn't sure he had the creativity spark again for photos, but he just put a brave smile to agree for now. He just didn't want to let her down, as he wanted to shift and run just like he used to but he promise he wouldn't I gotta wash my hands he called out as he went to the sink and began to wash his hands
Storm was washing his hands until he noticed a mask guy in the mirror. Storm remained quiet but he looked behind him and saw there was no one there. Drying his hands he headed back to rhiannon side and not mentioning what he saw as he just wanted to forget it like everything else. After all the figure wasn't really there, so what good would it do if he said anything now I am ready he smiled so brightly as he was so hitching to go out and run, and feel the wind brushing against his face and much

The routine that she’d fallen into when she’d arrived in Mystic Falls had shifted with Storm’s introduction to her household. There was no more staying behind for hours after she flipped the sign to work on the metric ton of paperwork that came with running any sort of business. If she did end up typing up patient notes or sorting files after she was finished, then it was done at home after Storm had gone to bed. These days the fridge was kept full, Storm’s favourites kept on hand, the instruction given that he could help himself at any time without having to ask first. Rhi had never imagined herself sharing her home here with anybody, but Storm had changed that and so much else.
Was this what it had been like for her mom? Rhiannon stood in the doorway, watching Storm sitting with one of the dogs, the last of the bowls just filled. She’d been the one feeding the dogs last thing at night when she’d been a teenager. Stealing away down to the kennels for that last walk, finding company in the animals that didn’t judge the same way that humans did. ”Good job, buddy,” she told him, offering a proud smile. ”That should see them fine until the morning. We’ll bring in some treats tomorrow morning too. I’m just about running out here.” Another task on her list for when she actually settled down later. Shopping lists and work tasks – including printing up the last of the leaflets for the animal adoption event they were running the weekend after next.
For now she was ready to head out and give both Ptolemy and Storm some fresh air. Rhi tipped her head back towards the reception area. ”I’ll be waiting out front, alright?” She glanced over her shoulder at Storm as she went, making sure that he was alright. Sometimes she worried that he was still stuck in the same emotional turmoil he’d been in when Chris had found him out in the woods. It would take time, she knew from bitter experience, to fully recover, but she hoped that now he had a warm, safe place to live, Storm could start to do that.
Back in reception, Rhiannon gathered her things – jacket, bag, Ptolemy’s lead. She had it all gathered when Storm emerged from the back. Smiling at him, she closed up the exam room door behind him and gestured him towards the front door of the clinic. ”I figured after the day we’ve had it’ll be good to get out and get some air. Tough day, huh?” A quick tap of her fingers against her thigh had Ptolemy trotting out past her. He waited patiently beside the truck, hopping up into the small space behind the seats before Rhi got in on the driver’s side. ”We can put dinner together when we get back after. Is there anything in particular you want tonight?” These days she tried to plan their meals around Storm. After years in the military she’d chow down on just about anything when she was hungry enough.

It was nice to go out in the wilderness again. He felt so much freedom this way. Being locked up constricted him and made him so unsafe. Storm could feel himself titching to change and just run. But he promised and he never broke those promises. Walking across the fallen log was a breeze and simple for him. He remembered everything. The smell of the moss, the smell of the trees which leaned against the small stream was where he stayed. He could also smell the hunters too. There was just one he would trust and he couldn't pick up on that one yet. Storm was hoping he would have been here.
He took the camera that was given to him and started to take a few shots. He walked more where he came to the spot where he spoke to death. He wasn't scared afterwards as he was kind to him. But he told him to go with a reaper, but Storm was scary. Where would he go after death? Would it be hell as he created one of the sins ever and that was murder. He stood staring at the spot he was saved at by passers-by this was where I was saved from death. I fell in the water and drowned. I met death. He told me to go with my reaper. But I am afraid where I end up he went back to took more pictures so he waited to see what her reaction would be, as before he would have shifted and ran away from his problems
I don't want anything that is big. A salad or just sandwiches are fine for me storm wasn't much of an eater even before he almost starved to death and almost died from the snare. I wasn't really a big eater. Are you ok with that? he asked as he stepped away from the water as he was scared he fall in it again
also yes I can't swim and want to avoid the water. Where are you going now? he asked as he was skipping away as he was very happy. He loves being out in the wilderness and prefers the outdoors to inside houses Rhiannon have you ever slept outside with nature and look at the stars? It's the best and gives you a feel for adventure he asked her as he was hoping she would let him sleep outside one night as he really misses it.
Storm wasn't thinking about his shifting incident as he was having fun and enjoying the company with his boss. But storm was wondering what their plans were going to be until he was able to have it under control. Was he going to like it, he had a feeling part of him wasn't going to agree with it and was going to fight it every step of the way

The drive out to the woods hadn’t taken long and the instant they were back out of the truck again, Rhiannon knew that the trip had been a good idea. She could see the change in Storm the moment they were under the trees, out of sight of even the small lot where they’d parked the truck. There were still a couple of hours of daylight left, enough for a good hike before they headed home – although she suspected even that wouldn’t be long enough for Storm’s liking. She’d tried to make sure they got plenty of time outdoors, not wanting him to lose the connection to nature that seemed to have kept him alive in those months he’d spent hiding out here after his father had died. Rhiannon strolled along behind him, hands in her pockets, her gaze alternating between Storm, Ptolemy – who darted in and around them, exploring and marking his own trail – and the woods around them. So different to the places she’d been stationed for years, but reminiscent of those woods she’d grown up in. Something in her chest loosened when she was out here, like her own batteries were being recharged. Maybe some part of her had wondered if she’d find her father out there one day, reuniting in the one place where he’d always felt safe.
Storm seemed to be doing alright with her. School was still a no-go, but she was trying to sneak lessons in where she could, tying them to the work he was doing for her at the clinic and the shelter. Her brows drew together as he stopped at the edge of the water. Rhiannon approached, not wanting to push by getting too close. He began speaking as she approached, telling a story that her heart aching for him again. ”I’m sorry you went through that,” she said on a ragged breath, as she had done so often when Storm had told her stories of the tragic life he’d had. ”I don’t think you ever need to be afraid of that Storm. You’re not a bad person, no matter what’s happened, I don’t think you’ll end up anywhere horrible.” She couldn’t guarantee it, but she refused to believe that a child who’d suffered that much would be punished in whatever afterlife there was. ”Nothing big, I promise,” Rhiannon assured him. Her nose wrinkled as she thought through what was in the fridge. She’d tried to adjust to what had worked for Storm, planning the shopping trips (done far more frequently now that she wasn’t the only one in the house) around his likes. ”How does a grilled cheese sandwich sound to you? If you don’t like it we could put together a salad. Maybe with some of the left over chicken?” As long as he ate something her worries for him remained at the low simmer they’d been out since Chris had brought him into the clinic.
She drew away from the water as he did, following Storm as he skipped on ahead of her. With Ptolemy alone it would have been a faster walk, more a straight hike through the trees, her enjoyment there, but more as a background to everything else. With Storm it was front and centre – Ptolemy probably preferred the extra outdoor time too. ”I figure we can walk a loop through the trees – not near the falls if you’d prefer it.” Maybe in time Storm would agree to some swimming lessons, it would put her mind at ease, at least.
Her smile grew, nostalgia warming her chest as she nodded at Storm. ”When I was younger than you I’d go camping with my parents pretty often. We lived in a pretty rural area and my dad loved the outdoors. We’d take tents with us, but sometimes we’d just take our bed rolls out into the open air. My dad could name every single one of the constellations.” During the war she’d taken comfort from them, staring up into those unobstructed skies, reeling off the names in her head like he was right there with her. ”There’s a tent at the house, we could set it up in the yard for you this weekend, if you wanted?” At least there she could keep an eye on Storm, and hopefully the fence around the yard would keep him safe enough.

In the city of fools, I was careful and cool but they tore me apart like a hurricane.
Storm listened to his boss and more importantly his mentor for life more closely. Even though physically he was able to support and manage stuff, mentally he was much younger and needed more support and guidance. He told her his fears and worries that he was bad. He killed someone and he can't get that out of his mind. He still felt so much guilt, and meeting death can't have consequences, it had to be a reason. What was the meaning ‘go with your reaper next time’ that sent so chills to his bones and he didn't want to meet a reaper ever
Sounds like you had a good relationship with your dad. It must have been nice to have that kind of relationship he looked down as he never had love. He remembered the yelling since he was young back in Lithuania I don't even remember when dad was nice to me. Sometimes I wish I was back in Lithuania when everything was normal, and I wasn't cursed with this being. Before meeting that creepy guy in the woods with a death looking mask. Before everything fell apart, and before I became a murderer even if it was an accident he still killed someone and his soul was tainted you know my soul is tainted. Killing someone is so wrong. It was a trip to hell storm sat down on the wooden log as he could feel something titching to go out there again, and avoid the hunter traps. But he promise not to do that, and he didn't want to worry rhiannon and possibly hurt another being
There is no need for a tent . I have lived in the wilderness. When it was miserable and cold I just went underground. Don't know why a tent is needed he winked his nose on this I just don't want to be nearer or go in water. Never doing that again. I don't want to see death or these reapers he is talking about to take me to hell this was his fear now. Storm often wondered that angels were true, since the bad was so real to him. Do you believe in angels? Do you think they exist? If they do, would it be possible to contact one and ask them for forgiveness so I can be and see my mam again? he asked as he looked at the sky, as he didn't want the full moon to come around again. Storm has never tried it before, but he was going to attempt to resist the change I don't know if it is possible, but I am going to fight against it this full moon. I am not becoming that monster every again he was determined, even if it wasn't possible to avoid

Each time they’d been forced to camp outside the wire when she’d been deployed, Rhiannon had found had thoughts drifting to her father. He’d always found far more comfort out in the wilderness, away from the people who labelled him weird and dangerous because it was impossible for them to understand, or accept, that there were things out there that were so much more than just human. Like Storm, her dad had been attuned with nature, only dangerous when he was pushed to the brink, and never a danger towards himself. Hurting her when those men had come for them had broken something in him that might never have healed.
Glancing at Storm as he responded to what she’d told him about her dad, Rhi felt her stomach twist. Storm’s father had been more like those men, lashing out, taking out his temper and fear on somebody who shied away from even defending themselves. ”I did,” she said lightly. ”I loved him very much. I was younger than you are now when I lost him though. He … couldn’t stay with us anymore. The people in the town we lived close to didn’t understand that he was different and hounded him until he left. I haven’t seen him since.” Just as Storm said now, she’d have given anything to go back to that time. She could’ve begged him to stay, found some way to give him peace.
Sadly, she shook her head at Storm, wishing she could give him that feeling of peace too, but after all that had happened, she knew that there was no magic spell to make that happen. ”I know that you were forced to do something horrible,” Rhiannon said softly, folding her arms around herself as Storm sat down. ”I’m sorry, Storm, I can’t believe that you’re permanently tainted. You’re a good man, one who didn’t deserve what happened, one who’s trying to make up for what you were forced into. For me that makes all the difference in the world.” Guilt meant that there was a conscience, a tender heart in Storm. His father could never have claimed the same.
A shiver ran down her spine at the worst details of Storm’s story, her gaze raking over the trees around them. After something like that she’d have found the woods far less welcoming. A tent wouldn’t give much more shelter, but she knew first hand how much more comfortable one was over sleeping on the bare ground. The corner of her mouth quirked up. ”It’s warmer, you can make it more comfortable. You don’t have to go underground any more Storm.” What had been necessary after he’d run wasn’t anymore, not now that he had a safe home.
After Storm had first told her about his meeting with someone who called themselves Death, she’d spent some time reading up on it all, trying to find some understanding of what he’d been talking about. She wasn’t sure if she believed in half of it, even now. ”I don’t know if I do,” she admitted lightly. Rhi frowned faintly, watching the direction of Storm’s gaze. ”If they do exist, I don’t know how we would. There are lots of things out there in the universe we won’t necessarily understand. Judging by all the stories, I don’t think you’d need to ask them for forgiveness, they can see the good in people, Storm.” And he was a good man, albeit terrified. ”Have you fought against turning before?” In a way that seemed brave, in another everything she’d read about shifters seemed to suggest it would only prolong the agony of turning.

In the city of fools, I was careful and cool but they tore me apart like a hurricane.
Storm wanted to believe that he was good. The trauma was still there and murder was wrong. It has broken him. Why did the hunter have to be so stubborn? Why did he have to push so hard? Why did they run into each other all the time? He was listening to his boss, he was trying to learn the other side of things. Even though meeting death was very scary, and he was glad that he didn't go with him but monsters don't go to heaven. Why would I be allowed entry when I am a monster? Why wouldn't death tell me the truth? Why does everyone want to speak to me in riddles? he signed more. He didn't know where he was going to end up after death and it was scaring him to death I just wished I could meet one and hear from them he looked down as she said he was a good person, of course he didn't believe that Aš nesu geras, aš žudikas (I'm not good, I'm a killer) he didn't mean to speak Lithuanian it was just second nature
I never did it before. I always love shifting as I was able to run away from my troubles. But that was before he turned up storm only remembered bits and pieces as it was all jumbled. He didn't know it was real, or it was a nightmare I was in the woods like normal, but I saw a figure staring at me. It was really creepy looking. Then suddenly there was two. I started to run, but then suddenly it went dark. My head hurt for days after it, I put it down I trip and fell after that encounter the full moon was very painful and he got very aggressive from it now it really hurts during the full moon and I get a nasty temper I act like a total jerk, like a true monster
Storm kept looking at her I fight the pain and whatever comes with it, if it means you are safe from me. I would run away if need to that one night so I know you've safe he wasn't confident that he would be safely contained it be better during those times we be away from others he didn't like it as he was worried that he wouldn't return and stay in the woods all over again. the other form isn't pretty at all, I don't want you to witness and possibly be trauimse by it he looked away as he was trying to hold the tears and not cry, as he was punished for crying in the past and he didn't want to be called weak all over again

She’d always seen a little of her dad in Storm – they were both gentle souls, attuned with the big wild, world and the wildlife that lived in it. Seeing how haunted Storm was by what he’d been forced to do to protect himself, Rhiannon wondered if this was how her dad had felt about breaking her arm. He hadn’t meant to do it any more than Storm had meant to kill his father. Her dad had been trying to protect her from what he thought was a bigger threat, and Storm, he was just trying to protect himself from someone who should’ve loved him.
Rhiannon’s brows drew together faintly as she watched Storm. How much was he going to be able to take of the guilt before he ran again too? What did she have to do to lighten that burden on him? The questions were going to weigh on her until she find a way to make sure that Storm stopped seeing himself as something monstrous. ”Because you are not a monster,” Rhiannon said simply. She’d keep repeating it for as long as it took to get the message through to Storm. ”Everybody has their own version of the truth. Whatever he thought was right, wasn’t. I know you Storm, I can see who you really are.” And it chilled her to think that someone or something had twisted what had happened to tear at Storm’s conscience. She shook her head, hoping for his sake that nothing like that would come calling again. She didn’t understand what else he said either, she was really gonna have to try and learn the language for Storm’s sake – and for her own, it would help her see what was going on with him. A shiver ran down Rhiannon’s spine as he began explaining what had happened to him. She crossed her arms, trying to wrap them around that cold spot inside of her. It had been obvious from the start that this town wasn’t normal, but that was part of what had drawn her here – that she wouldn’t stand out. ”Have you seen them since?” she asked tightly, watching where Ptolemy was snuffling around the woods. At least he would warn them if there was anything out there now. ”Was that a part of what you were able to do before?” It gave even more weight to her argument that Storm wasn’t a monster, what he was doing wasn’t intentional, but it was also creepy as hell.
”Please don’t,” Rhi said quietly, holding Storm’s eye. He might’ve been concerned for her safety, but she was more worried for her. If he ran again there was a chance he’d never come back and he didn’t deserve to be out there on her own. ”I’ll stay in the house if I have to, but I don’t want you leaving just to keep me safe.” Maybe Chris would know some other way, but she didn’t think refusing to change was it. Seeing the glimmer of tears in Storm’s eyes as he turned away from her, Rhi didn’t hesitate to cross to him and wrap an arm around the boy. ”I won’t be traumatised. Nothing you could do is ever going to hurt me in any way Storm. You’re safe to be who you with me. You’re safe.” She repeated the words with emphasis like she could force him to hear them and believe them.

In the city of fools, I was careful and cool but they tore me apart like a hurricane.
One thing Storm had was looking after the people he cared about. He did help Aurielle out when she was stuck in the middle of nowhere and was injured. Or did he dream it, everything was confusing in his life. Especially after the principal called his father when he was in trouble. He didn't want that to happen and he never told why, maybe this was the reason he hated school and he had no reason to go back now. Secretly he misses his old history teacher and maybe he should reach out and talk to him. He understood what happened, or he hoped he did. The past must stay in the past, this what he said to himself to keep himself sane. Especially after that awful night he just wanted to forget I just want to forget that night. The taste of metal in my mouth. The screams and the death glare in his eyes. I want to forget it all he pleaded as he saw her being concerned Prašau, neverk. Atsiprašau, nenorėjau priversti tavęs verkti (please don't cry I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you cry) he didn't mean to go to his native language, it was just something he does through stressful moments
you believe me? storm was shocked as he tried to explain it before when he disappeared but he was made like he dreamt it or was lying. Again his father would punish him for it. You're the first one. Everyone else said I was making it up and was punished for it he explained and started to think a little harder trying to remember. I met one of them again, in my other form. He picked me up by the scruff of the neck and tried to get me to shift back, but I refused. He threatened to kill me. I don't remember how I escaped and avoided death. But it was before Chris found me and refused to leave me alone he shaked how he avoided death, but how scared he was all I remember was the scary masks they all wore. They aren't around here. I haven't seen them in a while, but I don't understand why they target me. Everyone wants to hurt me in this place, I don't know what I did wrong to deserve this the feeling of the hurt in the past was hard. It will take him a while to trust the kindness he was receiving now, he knew his boss was a kind and gentle woman. Animals had a great sense of good vs bad. She did nothing to make him feel unsure or unsafe around her. I was able to shift before and I had great control. But during the moon, I lose part of myself and I can't control it or know how too. It really hurts, unlike before. I am more hostile and aggressive around the full moon, so please don't hate me for it he pleaded as that part of him wasn't really him, and he wasn't in control St that time
Feeling the hug Storm immediately turned and embraced the hug back, as he welcomed the comfort. Also maybe knowing her scent he was able to recognise her and she be safe from his moody self. The tears kept on running down his face I don't know what to do about the other side of me. I don't want to be locked up again. What if I don't come out of it again he spoke softly as he leaned into her more, just embracing the hug. Storm didn't know what the hunter might know, he just didn't want to be locked somewhere. It was one of his biggest fears right now do you think Chris as a solution to help? He didn't want to run off, but he will do it to protect his family though

Perhaps there were psychics out there that could cause amnesia, witches maybe, but Rhiannon doubted that you could ever entirely get rid of the worst memories. As much as you wanted to tear them out, they weren’t like splinters. They would vanish clearly. The scars they had caused would stay behind, some better, healthier part of you would be taken instead, the part that had grown from all that damage. Rhi still wished she could take the worst of the pain from Storm. She could see how deeply rooted it was in him, how it was still tearing him apart. ”I know it doesn’t seem it now, but the memories will fade,” she promised softly. Some would still have that razor sharp edge, but others would grow misty, their ability to cut slowly vanishing. Storm was speaking that other language again, his words not clear, but his meaning apparent enough. ”I’m Ok,” she promised, her smile sad but genuine as she squeeze his shoulder. It was him she worried about. She could take the weight of sadness, of worry, the military had taught her to do that at least.
There had been enough evidence there on Storm’s body, in his manner, his voice, for her to see just what his father had done to him. It had broken her heart then and she’d regretted it bitterly when he’d vanished. Knowing that it wasn’t just his dad that had done that damage pissed her off now. It took someone truly evil to see a boy suffering like that and add to that pain. She frowned lightly as she nodded at Storm. Rhi wrapped her arms around herself trying to push the chill of that thought back. ”Not everybody’s willing to believe in what’s out there,” she told Storm lightly. ”I can’t say I know about everything, but I’ve seen enough to know it’s possible and I know you don’t lie.” Storm was painfully honest instead, which made it all the harder to hear.
The chill continued to race up and down her spine, leaving Rhi kicking herself about having brought Storm out into the woods again. Maybe those things were still out there, if they were she had to be more careful from now on. She looked at him as he assured her that those things didn’t seem to be around anymore. That was no guarantee they weren’t still in town. She was gonna have to speak to Chris about it, see if he had any idea of what might have really been behind it all. ”You did nothing wrong,” Rhi said instantly as Storm seemed to try and put the blame on himself. ”You don’t deserve this Storm. Sometimes it’s the people that deserve it the least that are hurt the most. I promise you I’’ll do whatever I can to make sure it doesn’t happen again.” Like his father should’ve been doing all along, instead of punishing his son.
If Storm had some ability before he’d been taken, maybe there was a chance he could find that control again. She listened to him, nothing what he said, hoping that Chris would have some advice for her. The corner of her mouth lifted slightly, reassurance shining in her eyes again. "I won’t hate you for it, Storm. It’s a normal part of life, even if you aren’t different to most people.” Her abilities would probably give her a front row seat to his emotions, but she would cope with that.
Rhi was glad to feel Storm hugging her back. In those first few days after Chris had fonud him, she’d wondered if he’d ever be comfortable with human contact again, but slowly Storm seemed to be handling it better. She shook her head as she drew back, brushing Storm’s tears away from his cheeks. ”You won’t be locked up again. I won’t let anybody do that to you. If something happens, we’ll find help. Honestly, I don’t know what Chris is able to do, but I know he has more experience with this than I do. If anyone can figure it out, it’s him.” Her arms settled around Storm again, her hand rubbing his back. ”Do you want to head home, or stay out here a while longer?” she asked, unsure if being out in the woods was helping or hurting right now.

In the city of fools, I was careful and cool but they tore me apart like a hurricane.
Feeling genuine love was rare for the youngster. Even though he was technically an adult and was able to be on his own, mentally he wasn't that age and acted like a frightened young child. Storm had so many fears, but one thing he wasn't scared of since meeting him was death. True he didn't want to see him anytime soon, but he knew he wasn't the bad guy that he heard from the stories. He was still confused by some words ‘there was no telling which door I would open. It would be heaven or hell’ he thought in his mind and was trying to find out what the riddle meant. The comfort from Rhiannon was nice, she was like his best friend and he was safe with her. He trusted her to keep him safe from the horrids out there in the world
“But I know I am dangerous, I don't know how to control this other side of me. I know being locked up is needed to keep me safe. But I am afraid I will never be let out” the change always bugged him as he didn't remember anything once the shift was complete. He just doesn't know the carnage that was left behind “I don't even believe Chris would be able to handle it. I don't want to wake up and hear that he died from my claws and teeth. It is so wild and feral, it does its own thing. I am not sure it would fall for the stuff that he might use to trap or lure him” storm memory wasn't too good form the injuries he received from the abused “I don't think those scary people are around anymore. Maybe they have moved on and I don't need to worry about them. But he was going to inject me again with some crazy stuff. He was going to kill me” even though the woods was the hunting grounds for the crazy doctors with mask, storm always love to visit the woods and that would never ever change
Storm wasn't ready to go back home yet, he needed to rub around but he was worried that she thought he would not come back to her, so he didn't. Is it OK if we stay here a bit longer? I am not ready to go back just yet not being able to shift in the woods was hard, but he knew that couldn't right now so he would hide it and he was very good at doing it too I feel more at home with nature. Always have been. Guess that's why I always ran away from home and came out here. But Chris always managed to find me. I could never get that guy off my trail, until I was in my other form. Until that day he signed, even though he wouldn't have survived long, as searching for food was hard and storm never had hunting instincts
If you could be any animal what would you be and why? he asked as he was running around to try and get some energy out, so he can be content at least

For months after her dad had gone Rhi had begged her mom to bring him back. She’d been so sure that she’d been the reason he’d left. If she’d been able to stop those men being so angry, if she hadn’t tried to pull away from him as he’d taken hold of her arm, if she’d been a better daughter. It had been so hard to rid herself of the certainty that him leaving had been her fault. How her mom had been so patient about it all, she didn’t know, but bit by bit she had talked her around. It had never erased the heartache of losing her father, as time went on though, the sting softened. Maybe he was still out there, but coming back was always going to be on his terms, when he was ready and able.
When Chris brought Storm to her she had tried to caution herself, and Storm that it would be the same then. Eventually he would make peace with the idea that he wasn’t a bad person, that he hadn’t killed his father because he was evil or dangerous. Rhiannon had hoped that she was finally starting to get that through to him, but hearing him call himself dangerous now, made her realise how far they still had to go. ”You will,” she promised, angry at his father for using a move like that just to torment his son. ”In time you’ll learn to control that part of you. I used to think I would never be able to control what I could do either, but with time it got easier." Maybe that stemmed from seeing how bad it was for her dad when he hadn’t been able to learn that control. ”I don’t think you’re giving him enough credit, Storm. Chris has been dealing with … people like you for a long time. He won’t allow you to harm him.” She’d seen men like him in the military, people who radiated that sense that they were absolutely sure of their place in the world. Men who carried the scars of a hard life like they were a badge of courage, proof of just what they had faced down and survived. Those were the men you were sure would be able to do that again. Fear for Storm had left her searching the woods around them for some sign of the things that had somehow changed him, but now Rhiannon looked back at him and nodded. ”He might have said he was going to try, but you survived, Storm. I’m sure if there is anything like that out there Chris will deal with it. You don’t have to fear them anymore.” That wouldn’t stop her from being watchful though.
If Storm had been feeling the same unease, she’d have called Ptolemy back to her and got them both heading home. The last thing she wanted was for him to be scared out here, feeling as though he had to stay because he thought she wanted to. As he asked if they could stay longer, Rhi slanted a smile at him and slipped her hands into her pockets. ”Sure. Just let me know whenever you are ready to go back.” Turning back towards the creek, Rhi let her smile shine brighter. ”Me too,” she promised. ”I was always outside as a kid. My dad was too. The woods were always his safe place. I’m sure Chris understood and that was why he knew where to find you.” Still, it had been impossible to leave Storm out there, alone and starving. As he asked her about her favourite character – while running around – Rhi hummed. ”It might sound obvious, but a dog,” she admitted. ”A working dog. They see the world in such a different way to us and they’re trusting and loyal even when we probably don’t deserve it.” That love of dogs had come from her parents, and in the years since she’d joined the military her dogs were the one constant in her life. ”How about you?”

In the city of fools, I was careful and cool but they tore me apart like a hurricane.
Nature was nice and Storm could stay here forever. In a sense he already did and didn't go as planned. Catching his own food wasn't his strong point as he would play with it instead. He watched the birds fluttering by and he smiled, glad to be out in the wildness instead of a locked room. He didn't have much of education so he was doubtful he get a better job than helping our his boss, though he was ok with it, playing with animals was the best thing ever
“Yeah but it was annoying getting found by the same guy all the time. I wanted to be left alone then. I thought being dead was the best way for it to be. I don't want to talk to the police, they are not really nice people. My dad was one, and they once listened to me” running away was the only solution he had at the time, but the hunter would always find him, when the police never did. “I am not scared of them, I am not scared of anything” he was trying to act brave even though water source still scared him since this is how he met Death in the first place and was going to end up going with him
“Dog huh that's a really cool animal. They are very loyal animals and smart” he smiled as he already can turn into any animal “I can already turn into my favourite animal there is no limitation what I can pick. But I always go for a fox, as they are cunning, a trickster and sly too” there was a reason why they say to never trust a fox “rarely I chose a red stag. They not easy to hide in the woods and I don't want to become dinner” he laughed as it was half true
It was nice to talk about these things. Storm only ever had two friends. He had a ghost friend who used to follow him everywhere he went and there was Aurielle who was abandoned in the middle of nowhere injured “it nice to talk about what I am to someone. There are only two others but I haven't seen them for months now. One was a ghost so I hope she saw the light and was able to fully move on. She was murdered by an awful guy. I can't remember his name. Thing his surname was Mikaelson” he couldn't say vampires as he didn't want to sound like total weirdo or someone who makes stuff up
“Is it OK if I shift and run around a bit? I promise I will not run off. I just need to spread my legs and get rid some of the pent-up energy” he asked her being really polite as he waited to see he get the green card to shift or not
