And then there were 9… It’d started with just the core little group of them asking to make the move from Beacon Hills. Begging his dad, Scott’s mom, Lydia’s parents, to let them move across country to try and get Allison back. They’d started school that way, just the handful of them and then, like the breeze had blown them in, they’d started to turn up in Mystic Falls. Allison, with her demon riding in the driver’s seat at first, Isaac, Cora, Malia … then Danny, Derek, in a damn sorry state. It wouldn’t have surprised him to wake up one morning to find Peter sitting at the end of his bed, doing his best King Creepy impersonation, or for Lydia to suddenly stroll into Mystic Falls high, teetering on heels, lips bright with red gloss again, acting as though nothing had changed since she’d died. Somehow, despite the changes, despite things being so different here, some stuff felt exactly the same as it had since his first day of High School. Stiles glanced across the classroom at Lydia, pencil tapping against his teeth as he watched her bent over her notebook. Yep, sometimes definitely didn’t change.
But others did, had, were still going to. Stiles turned back, half listening to their history teacher rambling on about some sort of Civil War massacre in the town. He set the pencil down, winced as the tearing sound of the corner of his notebook he ripped off seemed to fill the room. Returning the teacher’s narrowed eyed look with a grin, Stiles flapped the piece of paper momentarily at him like a flag and then started scrawling on it. Just a few words. ‘Meet me after class. Need those talented hands of…’ Frowning, then his eyes widening, Stiles scribbled out the last four words. ‘Need you to do something for me.’ Better, not exactly Shakespeare but clear enough. The instant the teacher turned his back to start writing on the board Stiles balled the paper up, tossed it on to Danny’s desk in the row in front. There’d been a time when he would’ve tried to hit Danny himself but this wasn’t a note he wanted to make the rounds of the classroom. The instant he received a glance from Danny Stiles grinned, nodded his head towards the hallway outside the class. At least here the school library had a tendency to empty out after class, all he’d need was those magic fingers of Danny’s and a few minutes with his laptop. Then maybe he wouldn’t be running around in the dark on this demon hunt.

Moving to a new town and starting at a new school had never been on the cards for Danny, being raised in Beacon Hills he had felt sure that he would graduate from the local high school before going on to college. That wasn’t something that he had ever really had a problem with, having his friends around him had helped but after Jackson moved with his family to London and Ethan decided to leave Beacon Hills following Aiden’s death the town just hadn’t seemed the same. It would have been easy enough to keep his head down and just see out the rest of his days at high school in peace but after spending the summer in Hawaii with his grandparents learning the truth about his family and then finding out what had happened to Allison on his return to Beacon Hills he had known that there was no way that he could stay there. Deaton had been able to fill him in a bit on what had been going on and while it was true that Danny didn’t really know Scott and the others that well other than by association given that Lydia and Jackson had been together for a long time and he, Scott, Stiles and Isaac had all played on the same lacrosse team he had still considered them to be his friends and he had known that there was no way that he could let them face the demon alone. He knew that his parents hadn’t understood why he had wanted to make the move even after he had explained it to them but they had still gone along with it and he really was grateful to them for that. Now he had started to settle in to life in Mystic Falls and even though things were very different from the way they used to be in Beacon Hills he knew that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Scott and the others had welcomed him into the gang and having Ethan in town really was a welcome bonus. He still didn’t know what was going to happen there but they had at least been able to set the record straight and he knew that he wanted to see what was going to happen. For now he knew it was just a case of taking it one day at a time, though, Allison was safe and was working through everything that had happened to her while the rest of them were getting on with their lives. There was still the matter of what had happened to Derek to worry about but that was something that they were all working on. For now he had school to contend with, though, and Danny was surprised when a note landed on his desk. Picking it up quickly he read it under the table so as not to be seen before turning to glance back at Stiles as he pocketed the note. As Stiles nodded towards the hallway, Danny nodded once before turning back to face the front. As soon as the bell rang he gathered up his books and slung his bag over his shoulder before heading out into the hallway. “What’s up?” he asked as Stiles approached. STILES STILINSKI

Back in Beacon Hills there’d been a long period when they’d kept as many people in the dark as possible. Stiles knew it might’ve been better for his dad if the truth had come out in some ways but the fact that finding out that the supernatural was real had a tendency to get people hurt had kept him from opening his mouth for so long. His dad needed to be protected, kept safe from those horrors that’d started periodically popping up in their lives and there were others to protect too. So many times he and Scott, floundering out of their depth, had thrown themselves into the fray with any consideration for their own safety. Derek, Jackson, Danny, the twins, even Peter, the two of them had taken figurative bullets for all of them. Was it the best way of doing things, keeping so much secret? Probably not, but given what had happened to Allison when she’d tried to help rid him of the nogitsune, what had happened to Scott then, his dad and Scott’s mom getting kidnapped, it was just as dangerous to be in the know about what was going on than to be clueless. For the most part they’d managed to keep Danny out of things, keeping him safe on the side lines, not that they hadn’t used him at times. Stiles guessed he should’ve felt a trace of guilt at using Danny again but hell, if he wanted to find out what was really going on here then he’d need the help. He could beat himself up about it later, once they were sure the demon was gone.
Thankfully the move with the note, the hastily scribbled and partially scrubbed note, hadn’t caught the teacher’s attention. Trouble was something he’d promised to leave behind in Beacon Hills. All he would’ve needed was a detention to put the kibosh on his plans here. Glad that Danny hadn’t tossed the note straight out, Stiles waited impatiently until the end of class, teeth nipping at his lower lip, toes and pencil tapping in a silent rhythm he’d learned ticked people off less than the constant drumming of sneaker or wood on wood. Only about half of what should’ve been penetrating his skull actually got in there but there wasn’t much new about that. Enough had made it from his ears to his brains that Stiles knew he wouldn’t have too much trouble speeding through the homework late tonight. Grades had never really been his problem, that’d been concentration and distraction, and yeah, this demon had continued to be a pretty big distraction even after it was meant to be gone. The instant the bell rang his books, notes and pencil were crammed into his backpack, his scrambling feet carrying him out into the hallway. Slumping back against the wall, Stiles waiting for Danny to emerge and then sprang back up, offering a supposedly guileless grin as he slung a companionable arm around Danny’s shoulder. ”Oh, Danny Boy,” he crooned, waggling his brows for a moment before he let his arm fall away. ”How you doing? You know, with the move, the new school, the meatloaf Tuesday becoming meatloaf Thursday….” The heel dragging and the chit chat bull doody that he was using as a segue to the ‘your magical hands, my laptop, match made in heaven’ portion of the conversation, doing little but delaying the inevitable.

Deep down Danny had always known that there was something going on in Beacon Hills. He had seen the stories and police reports about the unexplained attacks and mysterious sightings but with the cover-ups that had gone on it had been difficult to know what was really going on. In the end he had done his own research and what he had found out had been pretty shocking. He had grown up with his grandparents telling him stories about werewolves and vampires whenever he went to see them, that was the reason why his parents hadn’t been keen on him seeing them too much in the first place, and he had never really given it too much thought as to why they had tried to keep him away as much as possible but now he knew. There was a time when he had thought that they were just stories but really they were trying to prepare him for what was out there. He hadn’t understood it back then he had only know that his parents had become angry when they had heard what his grandparents had been telling him although now it all made sense. His parents had never believed that what they were being told was true, even in a town like Beacon Hills it had never occurred to them that there might be more going on than they knew, but he knew that he couldn’t be like them. He didn’t want to live his life pretending that the supernatural didn’t exist, he knew the truth and he wanted to do some good with his life, he wanted to make a difference. That was why he had finally persuaded them to move to Mystic Falls in the first place, upon his return to Beacon Hills he had sought out Deaton and learned exactly what had happened to Allison and straight away he had known that he had needed to do everything he could in order to help. It hadn’t been easy but eventually they had managed to free Allison from the demon and now they were free to deal with the next problem – finding out what had happened to Derek. He had already heard a little about shapeshifters from his grandparents but what he didn’t understand was how Derek could have become one after being born a werewolf. It didn’t make sense at all and he was determined to get to the bottom of it although he also had other things like his school work to focus on as well. He had always been close to if not at the top of each of his classes and he knew that he wasn’t going to let his grades slip now that he was in a new town and at a different school. He knew he could graduate a year early if he wanted to but he didn’t want to leave his friends so that wasn’t an option. He had promised himself that he was going to help Scott and the others out as much as he could but he couldn’t deny that he was surprised to have received the note from Stiles. No sooner had he made it out of the classroom than Stiles’ arm was around his shoulders and Danny rolled his eyes as he shrugged himself free of the boy’s arm. “I’m doing fine now why don’t you cut to the chase and tell me what you want me to do?” he suggested, knowing that Stiles hadn’t given him that note just for a little catch up. “I know you’ve had a lot on your mind, what’s up?”STILES STILINSKI

Who woulda thought back when they’d started High School that every single one of them was going to end up being something other than plain old human. Who’d actually known there was anything but plain old human then? In the last couple of years Stiles had found himself looking back at those times and wondering just how they could’ve all been that naïve. Scott, Isaac, Boyd, Erica, all bitten, all turned, Allison twisted and trained to carry on a family legacy hundreds of years old, Malia finding out what she was at the worst possible time and living in that state for years, Lydia suddenly developing a talent for stumbling across those left dead around their town, Kira brandishing a sword, letting electricity sizzle over her just like Thor, all of them had become … something more. Even him. For so long he and Danny had been the human ones, the fragile ones that had needed others to help protect them when things went bad. Danny’d remained in the dark for far longer than he had, shielded from what the rest of them had known to protect him, kept blind to everything for his own safety. He’d had lie after lie thrown at him to convince him to help and the whole time he’d had a skeleton lurking in his family’s closet just as big as those all of the rest of them had found. Who woulda thought…
The sort of lies that’d once turned Derek into Miguel came tripping from Stiles’ tongue again just as soon as Danny’d strolled out of the classroom towards him. Stiles winced inwardly, knowing that he could’ve just come right out with it, albeit in a voice low enough that the whole school wouldn’t hear the words ‘demon hunt’ fall out of his mouth. Instead his mouth had gone on its usual word spewing spree, his real request dragging far behind the filler. Stiles laughed faintly as Danny shrugged his shoulder off, cutting straight through it all. For a moment Stiles shrugged his shoulders, the urge to BS automatically trying to take control of his tongue but he reeled himself in. Slipping his hands into the pockets of his pants, Stiles leaned in, the corners of his mouth twitching up as he glanced around conspiratorially. ”Like you said, there’s a lot on my mind,” he murmured. Biting at his bottom lip, Stiles leaned a little closer. ”And it’s stuff I could do with a hand with. Those hands of yours still pretty magic when it comes to a laptop?” Stiles’ brows rose and fell as he gestured with a shoulder towards Danny’s hands. ”You know, to help me look some stuff up, to … do some tracking.” To try and work out where the hell Myra had hidden herself away without walking into a vampire’s nest out in the woods again. How he’d managed to get out of there without turning into a chew toy was beyond him but just the glimpse of the fangs in the dark had been enough to convince him to wise up about this. To work smarter not harder.

Moving to a new town and starting over at a new high school had never been on the cards as far as Danny was concerned. Growing up in Beacon Hills hadn’t always been easy especially after he came out as being gay but he had always had a few people who had stuck by him no matter what and others had soon followed suit. Jackson had been a great support to him, he was the first person Danny had told and he knew that he wouldn’t have been able to get through those days without him. After Jackson left things had become a lot quieter, he had still had other friend he could hang out with but at the end of the day it just wasn’t the same. He knew that perhaps that was why he had thrown himself into dating so much, he had wanted someone who would make him feel something and he would be the first to admit that he hadn’t really made the best decisions in the world but in the end he had realised what was really important. He was determined to do well in his classes even though he knew that he could have graduated already if he had wanted to. He had always been good at planning his year academically and he had a lot of different options at his fingertips when it came to colleges he could go to but he knew that he wasn’t ready for that just yet. He wanted to graduate at the same time as everyone else his age and he also wanted to be on hand in case Scott and the others needed him so he was glad that they had been so welcoming to him since he moved to Mystic Falls. Settling in at a new school wasn’t something that Danny was used to but it had to be said that he liked the way that things were going in Mystic Falls. Allison was free from the demon that had been possessing her and Ethan was in town which was definitely a bonus as far as Danny was concerned. He had broken up with Ethan so that he wouldn’t feel bad about having to leave town after Aiden died and in doing so he had come clean about the fact that he had known about the supernatural pretty much all along. He knew he should have been honest before but it had taken a while for him to really get his head around everything that had gone on in Beacon Hills and now he had done that so he finally felt like he was ready to throw himself into the world that his parents had been denying all knowledge of their whole lives. He wanted to do as much good as he could but he knew that if he was going to be able to help the others then he needed them to be honest, something that Stiles seemed to be having trouble with at the moment. “What’s going on with you? You can talk to me,” he offered as Stiles confirmed that he had a lot on his mind. That much had been obvious from the start but the longer it seemed to go on the more concerned Danny was starting to become. As Stiles spoke again, Danny’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “They are,” he nodded at last. “You’re going to have to give me more than that though, who are you trying to track?” he asked even though he already had a pretty good idea. There’d been a time, even a year ago, when the only person he was likely to really open to was Scott. The two of them had been buddies for as long as he could remember, had stood side by side through middle school and that quiet start to high school. They’d sat side by side on the bench watching Jackson and his buddies, like Danny, race up and down the lacrosse pitch. When it’d come to working out what had happened to Scott out in those woods it had been the two of them who’d done it together. It was an unbreakable bond that Stiles knew he’d never have found with anybody else. It hadn’t been the same, not even with Lydia when he started to feel like he was losing his mind. She was there when he needed her, they all were, but when it came to opening up, to admitting the things that had a tendency to race around in his mind Stiles knew he’d always end up going to Scott first, then the others. He hadn’t even admitted what he was doing about the demon to Scott though, knowing the others would likely try and make him set it aside, to stop counting their blessings, he’d kept quiet about it. Of course, staying quiet had almost left him vampire chum out in the woods. He’d gone out there determined to try and trace the signs he’d seen of this thing and instead had found himself in other trouble. Usually it took a hammer blow to get something through his thick skull but this time he’d learned his lesson almost right away.
At least that was what he’d told himself when he’d decided to pull Danny at least partway into this. Danny’d helped them before, not always out of choice or fully informed, but he’d done his part and since he’d arrived in Mystic Falls it looked like he was trying to do the same again for them. Stiles knew he’d probably feel a little guilty about this later, when the whole thing came out and he had to admit to the others what he was still poking into but for now he was mainly reticent instead of just feeling damn guilty. No matter how much he danced around it though, Danny wasn’t gonna leave it alone. Stiles’ brows finally dropped as he crossed his arms over his chest and looked up at Danny. ”It’s kinda more than just stuff on my mind,” he admitted, probably just stating the obvious. Uncrossing his arms again, he balled up a fist, bumped it against his friend’s upper arm in gratitude. Knowing he was gonna have to do more than just compliment Danny, Stiles crossed his arms again, let his shoulders rise and fall as he bit his lip. ”A demon,” he finally admitted, meeting Danny’s eye. ”The one that was in Allison, the one I’m pretty sure just got away. I don’t think it just went poof and I wanna make sure it’s not gonna come back and do that again, to Allison, to any one of us.” He’d had a taste of being used as a meatsuit for something evil and he wasn’t planning on ever spending any more time in that state if he could help it.

While Danny was growing up it was true that he’d had other friends around him but the only person he had ever really been able to talk to was Jackson. The guy had been his best friend for as long as Danny could remember and the two of them had been through so much together. Jackson was the first person that Danny had trusted enough to come out to before he had even told his parents that he was gay and instead of judging him for it like he knew that some people would, Jackson had simply promised to beat up anyone who gave him a hard time because of it. Having a best friend like that was something that was easily taken for granted but Danny had always known better than to do that. Jackson had tried keeping the fact that he had approached Derek Hale and asked for the bite from him but Danny had still know the truth. Everyone had thought that he was completely in the dark about what was really going on in Beacon Hills when really he had known all along. He’d had no choice but to step back and let things play out but now he was much better prepared than he ever could have been back then. Now he knew not just the truth about the supernatural but also things that he had never even imagined to be true and he knew that he needed to put that knowledge to good use and do everything that he could in order to help Scott and the others. While it was true that Danny had never really been that close to any of them he knew that didn’t really matter, without Deaton around they needed someone who could help guide them and he was determined to be that person for them. It had been a little strange at first coming clean to all of them and Danny knew that they could have easily turned him away and said that they didn’t want or need his help but thankfully they hadn’t done that. Moving to Mystic Falls without talking to any of them first had been risky but it had paid off and now Danny was finally able to put everything that he had learned over the summer to good use. He knew that he still had a lot to learn about the supernatural and there was a chance that he would perhaps never stop learning but Danny had always liked a challenge and he knew that he wasn’t going to give up. His parents hadn’t wanted to admit that their families helped the world in ways that most people couldn’t even begin to comprehend but Danny knew that he wasn’t going to run from it the way that his parents had, he was going to do everything he could to make sure that no one else lost their lives the way that Allison and Aiden had. He knew he wanted to help the others in any way he could and he had already made his peace with the fact that that might mean getting involved with a few of Stiles’ hairbrained schemes from time to time. Right from the start it was clear that there was something bothering Stiles and as he finally explained it suddenly made sense. “You don’t want anyone else to have to go through what she did,” Danny said, nodding in understanding. He really couldn’t blame Stiles for wanting to make sure that no one else he cared about got hurt and at the very least Danny knew that he could make sure that the guy didn't get into too much trouble. “What can I do to help?”STILES STILINSKI

Supposedly the supernatural was the biggest secret being kept in Beacon Hills. Stiles had grown up completely unaware of what was going on around him. Wolf packs had been something only glimpsed in horror films, Scott’s boss had been nothing but a kindly vet and the Hale fire, that had been nothing but a tragedy. The cases his dad had worked had been intriguing but there’d always been a human explanation for them. The entire time there’d been stuff bubbling beneath the surface, banshees predicting deaths for decades, Talia Hale schooling Deucalion and his pack, an internment camp that had then been covered up for decades. He honestly never would’ve guessed any of that was going on until he and Scott had literally stumbled upon it. After Scott had been bitten it had seemed like they needed to keep everybody out of the loop for their own safety. Slowly, one by one they’d all been drawn into it though, bitten, initiated into a family legacy, dragged into it reluctantly like his dad, when there’d been no other choice to save lives. Then there’d been those they’d thought had been blind to it the entire time, despite the fact that they’d been smack in the middle of things more than once. Danny had been one of those, it had seemed like they’d managed to keep him both blind and safe but his turning up in Mystic Falls to help with Allison had been proof that Danny hadn’t been so blind to what was going on after all. Still with that old impression in mind, filled with the determination not to drag people any deeper into this than he had to, Stiles had dance around this but it was like bolting the stable door after the horse had already skedaddled. It was too late, he’d had to come clean to Danny, trusting that just a little research wouldn’t get him in too deep.
Standing in front of Danny, still vaguely defensive with his arms crossed over his chest, Stiles shifted his weight from one foot to the other. His lower lip slipped between his teeth and back out again as regularly as he breathed before he finally huffed out a breath and nodded his head. ”Everyone’s been through enough already. It needs to stop and if I managed to make that happen without putting Scott, Lydia, Isaac, even you in the firing line then I was going to do it.” It was bad enough visiting Allison’s hospital room, watching the shell that had been his friend, Scott’s first love, laying in that bed with seemingly no hope of coming out of the coma the demon had left her in. He’d sat in that room, books in his lap, watching over Allison as he’d tried to find a way to make all of this OK again. Stiles knew it was probably an impossibility, normality never stuck around long for them these days, but he knew if he didn’t try for it then there’d be no hope at all. Those attempts to dig into this, to make sure the demon was gone, had taken up most of his evenings, had sent him scurrying when he thought Scott or Lydia were coming looking for him. Maps covered the walls of his bedroom, the strings that had once criss-crossed his bedroom in Beacon Hills back again and he’d pulled together a stack of things he wanted Danny to check out. At Danny’s question Stiles let out a sigh of relief, tilting his head back for a moment before he tugged his hands out of his pits. He stretched one out, patting Danny on the shoulder. ”Oh Danny Boy, I knew I could count on you,” Stiles managed with a relieved chuckle. ”Have you been poking around Mystic Falls the way you used to do? You know, the maps, the telluric currents?” Danny’s explorations had come in handy more than once in Beacon Hills, saving their bacon when it came to Jennifer Blake. If there was a hope the same sort of things could help in Mystic Falls it might make all the difference in finding the demon.

Even had Danny not been born into a long line of druids he would have found himself thrown into the supernatural world. For years Beacon Hills had seemed like nothing more than a typical small town where nothing that interesting ever happened but looks could be deceiving and that was something that Danny had found out the hard way. There was so much more going on in the town than most people could have ever even dreamed of and Scott and his friends had found themselves right in the middle of it. Danny knew that he could have stayed out of it, he could have gone on with his life ignoring what was really going on around him but after Allison and Aiden died he had known that it was time to step up and make sure that no more innocent lives were lost. Even though he had known the truth about the supernatural longer than any of the gang had realised he hadn’t known how he could really help them. He hadn’t really known any of them that well aside from the fact that Lydia and Jackson had been a thing for years and Danny had known Scott and Stiles from the lacrosse team but he knew the trouble they had gone to in order to save Beacon Hills and he had known that he couldn’t let them keep on fighting alone. That was why he had wanted to spend the summer in Hawaii, he knew that his parents didn’t agree with his choice but at the end of the day they understood that he was old enough to make his own decisions, even if they didn’t necessarily agree with them, and they had respected his choice to get involved. Convincing them to move to Mystic Falls had been the more difficult part but now he was there he knew that he wanted to make sure he was finally able to do something good with his life. He hadn’t really known how Scott and the others would react when he got to town, they could have easily refused his help but thankfully they hadn’t and instead they had seemed to welcome having a fresh pair of eyes around. Danny had been there for everything since then, he had helped figure out a way to get rid of the demon and even though Allison was still lying in a hospital bed in a coma she at least had a fighting chance at getting her life back so he knew that was better than the alternative. The next thing they had to worry about was figuring out what had happened to Derek and why he had suddenly gone from being a werewolf to a shapeshifter but now that he seemed to have left town altogether that was proving to be a lot more difficult. Truth be told Danny was glad to have a distraction and as Stiles spoke Danny studied him carefully for a moment. “Stiles, if there is one thing I’ve learned about all of you then it is better when you work together. You’ve all been through a lot but don’t you think they would want to help if they knew you were still worried?” he asked as he looked over at the other boy. He knew that what had happened to Allison was hard on all of them and if there was a chance that the demon was still out there somewhere then there wasn’t a doubt in his mind that they would want to make sure that nothing like that ever happened again. As Stiles asked if he had been poking around Mystic Falls the way he used to, Danny couldn’t stop a smile from forming on his face and he nodded. “Of course, I started before I even moved here,” he admitted. He had done as much research about Mystic Falls as he could before moving there so he would know what he was up against. “What do you need?”STILES STILINSKI

As the son of a sheriff, he should’ve known better, as a human member of Scott’s pack, he should’ve known better, as a teenaged boy scared that the thing that’d literally ridden one of his friends out of hell would come back for them again, he hadn’t known better. From the minute he and his dad had rolled in to Mystic Falls Stiles had started cutting the others out of his investigation. It hadn’t been hard to do, Lydia and Scott were spending a lot of time at the hospital with Allison, waiting to see if that day would be the day she was going to wake up, his dad was busy at the station, everyone was caught up in settling down in a new place. The fact that he’d been spending more time in his room and out in the woods around town than at school or in his best bud’s pockets as he’d once been, had pretty much seemed to go unnoticed until now. All it took was one voice to point out where he was going wrong with all of this. They’d come through things before because they’d been a team and OK, things had gotten messed up when they’d handled things together before, but a lot more had gone right because of it. Stiles felt the back of his neck getting hot, guilt settling under the skin there like hot coals. If he’d told them what he was doing they would’ve all wanted to help and might’ve managed to. Maybe if he’d asked before now they’d have dealt with the demon already and been able to move on ... or maybe another one of them would’ve been dead. Torn between the two thoughts Stiles let out a groan and lifted a hand to scrub it over the back of his neck. Rock, hard place, Stiles stuck firmly in between.
Uncomfortable under Danny’s scrutiny Stiles squirmed, weight shifting, lower lip disappearing in out and between his teeth. Staying still was easier when you were certain you were in the right and now he wasn’t sure he was. Guilt had been a constant companion since the nogitsune had started screwing with his brain and having it out of there, stopping it feeding on his guilt and his fear and his pain hadn’t entirely gotten shot of all those feelings. Dark eyes ticked down to the floor of the hallway and then back up, resignation in them now. ”I know they would and then they’d all go charging after the thing. We did that once, when the nogitsune ... when I took Lydia ... we charged in and look what happened.” Allison had died, killed by one of the oni that he’d ... the nogitsune had ... been controlling. Lydia’s scream for her friend had echoed but he hadn’t heard it then, not til the thing had been out of him. ”I don’t wanna go through that again and I don’t want any of them to have to either.” But he couldn’t go on hiding either, not now he’d opened up to Danny. He was going to have to do some talking ... and some bargaining. At least this was progress though right? Getting Danny’s help here, albeit help he’d kinda tried to BS him about at first.
Chuckling with relief, he’d patted Danny’s shoulder. Feigning shock for a moment, Stiles gaped at him and then wrapped an arm around Danny’s shoulders companionably. ”You’re a worthy successor to Deaton man. Gonna save our asses from that thing.” He’d tried to prepare himself, poking around everything he could find online about Mystic Falls before they’d made the leap but he’d be the first to admit his brain didn’t make the same links Danny’s always had. ”Weather maps, charts of the area, any info on spots where trouble might be brewing around here. I was looking for omens, signs of where this thing’s sulking under its rock. Bring the stuff over to my house later, there might even be dinner in it for you.” Well, dinner from the Grill, as it had been most night since they’d gotten here. Smirking, Stiles leaned in an inch. ”I could kiss you for this.” He didn’t though, backing up the hallway to head home instead. This had to be enough to finally give him a leg up in this hunt. They’d get the son of a bitch for what it had done to Allison yet.

Danny didn’t know any of the gang perhaps as well as he should have done given that he had been going to school with most of them for long enough but at the end of the day he knew that didn’t matter. He hadn’t given any of them any warning before he showed up in Mystic Falls and he was grateful that they had welcomed him with open arms after they had learned what he was doing there. He knew that they could have quite easily turned him away but he knew that nothing would have stopped him helping to save Allison anyway. For far too long he had buried his head in the sand while he was in Beacon Hills, he had tried to ignore what was going on around him when he found out the truth even throughout everything that had happened with the kanima and with Ethan and his brother but he knew that he wasn’t going to do that any longer. He was ready to face up to what was really going on around him and he was determined to help the others out as much as he could. Two people had already lost their lives and the fact that Allison had been brought back to life even if she had initially been possessed by a demon was a miracle. Those didn’t come around too often so he knew that he wanted to make sure that Scott and the others were as clued up as possible about what was going on in the town so that there weren’t any more casualties.
As Stiles spoke, Danny’s expression softened. “Stiles, that wasn’t you. You shouldn’t blame yourself,” he said gently. He knew that was a lot easier said than done but he really believed that it wasn’t Stiles’ fault. Danny didn’t know everything that had happened with the nogitsune but he had learned enough about them to know that they could take complete control and he knew that Stiles would never do anything like that willingly. “I know you’re worried about them but you guys have always been stronger when you’re together. You need to let us help you so that something doesn’t happen to you as well.” He had seen how much it had affected them all when they lost Allison so he knew that he couldn’t let Stiles launch himself headlong into something reckless and become the next casualty. As Stiles spoke again he couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ll do my best but I don’t know if anyone could live up to Deaton’s high standards,” he chuckled. “I’ll be there but I’ll pass on the kiss if it is all the same to you,” he teased before turning and heading in the direction of his locker so he could grab a couple more things. “See you later.”
