– I freed myself from words never said –
Turning someone into a werewolf was a big responsibility and if done unproperly, he could result in turning the other's life into hell, filled with anger and pain and because he wanted to help Eddie avoid as much pain as possible, he knew it would be better to work on getting his newly found powers under control before the next full moon because he knew that if he left Eddie until the next full moon without any preparations, it might not end well for anyone involved, Eddie included. So, he advised Eddie to come to the training ground so he could start teaching Eddie more about what it means to be a werewolf. Was he good at it? Not particularly. So far, he was blessed with the fact that everyone in his pack had already been a were-creature. He never had to teach them what it means from scratch, so it was all new to Jed, too, but he was willing to take responsibility and help out. It's what Eddie deserved, at least.
"Hey, buddy." Jed greeted when his eyes relaxed on Eddie, the tension in his shoulders evaporating. "Okay, so, today I wanted to start our training. We're gonna need to do this every day until the next full moon, okay?" Jed's eyes scanned Eddie's expression for a moment before his lips stretched into an encouraging smile. "I know it might feel grueling and sometimes exhausting, but trust me, this is for your own good. The faster you control your wolf, the better." Jed revealed, knowing that it will definitely help Eddie a lot in the long run.
"We'll start simple today 'cause I don't wanna overwhelm ya, what do you say?" Since it was their first training session, he didn't want to start with the heavy stuff right away. "Before we start though, how are you feeling? Any unexpected bouts of anger?" Jed questioned first, knowing it would be better to know how Eddie was doing first. Both mentally and physically.

The day before seemed to have been a whirlwind but when Eddie woke up he was in an unfamiliar room and he was on his own. He was so used to having his siblings about him but he couldn’t deny that the quiet was rather nice for a change. He was worried about his siblings but Professor Saltzman assured him that they were fine and even offered to let them join him at the school if he decided to stay. Eddie wasn’t used to being shown kindness by others, he had thought that he was being given another chance when his parents adopted him but he had quickly realised that they weren’t ordinary parents at all. He had been compelled to forget what they were doing to him but now he was a werewolf the compulsion had washed away and he was able to remember everything. It all seemed so surreal but the truth was that now a lot of things suddenly made sense. Eddie wasn’t sure what to make of the fact that he was a werewolf at the moment but he didn’t know much about it yet so he knew that he needed to figure that out. One thing he knew for sure was that he was stronger and faster than he ever had been before and there was a part of him that hoped that he might be able to use that to his advantage and keep his family safe. That morning he had woken up early and taken another look around the school. It was completely different in the light of day but so far Eddie liked what he had seen. He had talked to the Headmaster last night and he didn’t feel judged for the amount of school that he had missed out on, it sounded like the teachers could help him catch up and he hoped that they would be able to do the same for his siblings if they wanted it too. Jed had asked to meet him out at the training ground and after finding out from one of the other students where it was, Eddie headed straight there. “Hey,” he said, a half smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he reached Jed. “That sounds good to me, I know I’ve got a lot to learn,” he admitted. He wasn’t the kind of person who shied away from hard work, he was determined to do whatever he had to in order to learn to control this. “I need to be able to protect my family, I don’t want to hurt anyone,” he added. All of his siblings were human and he knew that there was a chance that their parents could come back so he knew that he needed to be ready in case that time ever came. “Works for me,” Eddie nodded as Jed said they would start simple today, knowing that it would be good to ease himself into it. “I’m feeling pretty good actually, the chat with your dad last night helped and Charlie showed me around but I haven’t really met anyone else yet so no bouts of anger so far.”JED SALTZMAN

"That's a pretty noble cause. Don't worry, you'll be ready before you know it. I also won't let you hurt anyone. I promise." Jed understood his desire to protect his family. His parents were still out there and his siblings were all human which could easily put them in danger again. Jed had told Summer about vervain, told her that it could fight off compulsion and make them immune to it as long as they had it in their system. Or had it on their person. That way, if their parents find a way back to them and either attempt to compel or feed, they'll be met with nothing but failure and pain. Their parents didn't seem to have a good grasp of being vampires and he had a feeling they wouldn't even know about vervain and its existence. Overall, he had to make sure that the other kids were safe, too. "Look, I know I brought you here so suddenly, but, once I know that you're gonna be okay, I'll give you the choice to either stay with us at the school or go back to your family. I know it must be weird being here on your own." Jed didn't want Eddie to feel like he had no choice but to stay or that he was a prisoner here. It wasn't like that at all. So he knew it was important to let Eddie know that he had a choice to make once Jed had deemed him ready.
Jed nodded his head, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. He was pretty glad to hear that, actually. "See? You're already doing pretty well, buddy." Jed praised with a half-smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Alright. Before we start our training though I feel like I should give you a quick introduction about werewolves and what's our strengths and weaknesses, yeah?" Oh, Jed had no idea what he was even doing, but he was just going with his gut feeling. "Okay, so, there are exactly three ways in which a person can become a werecreature. For simplicity's sake, we'll talk only 'bout wolves, yeah? One, they can be bitten by an Alpha either on the night of the full moon or at any time of the month while the Alpha's half-shifted. For example, I bit you and turned you into one of us. So you fall into the first criteria." Jed cleared his throat to take a quick pause to give Eddie the chance to process everything.
"Second way is by having a werewolf parent. Could be just one of them, or it could be both of 'em. Depending on the bloodline itself, they can start transforming when they reach maturity. Or, they can also become wolves by taking the life of someone which results in them triggering their curse. As Jed, I fall into this criteria. Taking a life triggered my curse." Jed said with a quick nod of his head, not really lingering on that part for long. "Third way which is an incredibly rare one, is by being slashed by an Alpha's claws. It has to be a deep cut from what I've read." Jed took yet another pause to allow Eddie to absorb all this new information. "Oh, I should tell you 'bout our eyes and their meanings." Jed figured that'd be a good thing to tell Eddie about, too.
"Red is for Alphas, or true Alpha. Gold is for someone who hasn't taken a life. Blue is for someone who has taken a life." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following.
"Lastly, I'll let you know our strengths so you can have a pretty good idea on what you can do." Jed clasped his hands together. "First one being the most obvious, I guess, is shapeshifting. On the night of the full moon, we all shift into our wolf forms. However, we can also half-shift. I'll show you what that means down the road. We can, of course, heal quicker. We can absorb the pain of the others. I'll show you that as well. You can also tell when someone's lying which is pretty cool if I say so myself. We've got enhanced strength, agility, heightened senses, werewolf bite, durability, and speed. Don't worry, I'll show you everything and help you try it out yourself, yeah?" Jed took yet another pause which lasted about thirty seconds or so before starting again.
"Okay, now for our weaknesses. You'll actually find that they're pretty obvious. There's blood loss, a broken neck, heart extraction, decapitation, fire, electricity, loud noises especially since we have heightened senses, magic, mortality, mountain ash... I'll show you what mountain ash looks like as well as wolfsbane so you know what to keep an eye out for, silver, physical trauma," Jed paused again from there since he was pretty much done with that part, at least. "That's it. It's kinda a lot, I know. So if you ever have a question about our strengths and weaknesses, let me know. I'll give you a refresher, yeah? Also, like I've said, I'll demonstrate most of these things so hopefully it'll be easier to memorize from there." Jed said with a quick nod of his head.
"Okay, let's start with one strength and one weakness today. I want our training to be educative but also easy to memorize. So, uh, I'll actually let you pick one of each, buddy. Off the top of your head, you don't have to remember everything." Jed gestured toward Eddie with a gentle smile resting on his lips, his eyes fixed on the other, waiting to see if he'd be able to pick one of each or if he'd need help. Jed would be more than willing to help him, too. He won't judge. It was literally their first training session, after all.

“Thanks, I appreciate that,” Eddie said sincerely as Jed said that he wouldn’t let him hurt anyone. “As awful as my parents are, my siblings are all I have,” he added with a shrug. He knew that he should want to get as far away from them after everything that had happened and there was a part of him that did but there was also a part of him that was grateful to Summer and Daniel for arriving with help when they had. They could have run and not looked back but they hadn’t done, they had found Jed and Jed had managed to save his life. Now Eddie found himself thrown into a world he hadn’t even known existed before but he knew that he needed to use his newfound abilities to protect his brothers and sisters. Their whole world had fallen apart the day before and Eddie knew that they needed to band together now more than ever but he needed to learn how to control himself first. As Jed spoke again, Eddie nodded. “I won’t lie, it is strange being here without them but to be honest it feelings great to be out of that house,” he admitted. “I want to keep them safe but I haven’t been to school or out of the house for years so being here right now feels good,” he added. Some of the kids around the school gave him strange looks but he got the impression that that was because he was new rather than because they knew about what he had been through. He didn’t even know how to begin explaining what he had been through but at the Salvatore School he didn’t have to. The staff probably all knew what he had been through by now and he knew that he could reach out to them if he needed to but the truth was that he wasn’t ready for that yet so he knew that he just wanted to take it one step at a time. Eddie knew that he wanted to do right by his family but he also wanted to do right by himself for a change and being at the Salvatore School would give him that chance. He hadn’t been there for long but he already felt like he wanted to stay although he knew that he couldn’t rush that decision and he couldn’t make it without talking it over with his family either. “I’m not sure about that,” Eddie chuckled as Jed said that he was already doing pretty well. He hadn’t really been given anything to test his resolve yet and without his family around he could almost push what had happened to the back of his mind. He knew that it wasn’t a great way of coping but for now it was all he had. He knew that he needed to focus on learning how to control himself rather than worrying about what had happened to him or what was going on with his siblings right now and he was trying to do just that. “That would be great,” he nodded as Jed said that he should give him a quick introduction first. Eddie knew nothing about werewolves outside of what he had read about or seen on television or in movies during the limited time he’d been able to watch so he knew that he had a lot to learn. As Jed started explaining about how a person could become a werewolf, Eddie found himself nodding when Jed said that he fell into the first category. “Got it,” he nodded, unable to deny that he was curious about what the other ways of becoming a werewolf were. As Jed continued, Eddie’s eyes widened in surprise. “People can be born werewolves?” he asked, unable to deny that it was hard to believe but at the same time it made sense. As Jed said that he had taken a life, Eddie frowned. “You killed someone?” he asked, knowing that he wasn’t in any position to judge and he wouldn’t even dream of doing so. Jed was going out of his way to help him even though they were complete strangers so Eddie knew that this bit of information wasn’t going to change his view of Jed, it was just difficult to imagine him doing that. “That’s why mine turned gold last night and yours are red, that makes sense,” Eddie admitted, glad that there was a logical explanation behind it since it hadn’t made much sense to him before. “What’s a True Alpha though?” he asked, unable to deny that he was curious. There was so much that he didn’t know right now but he knew that he wanted to learn it all and he was grateful to Jed for taking the time to teach him. Eddie listened intently as Jed started talking about what they could do. It was a lot to take in but he couldn’t deny that it actually sounded pretty cool. “That would be great, thanks,” he nodded. “What’s shifting like?” he asked, unable to deny that that was the thing that he was most nervous about. Different books and movies depicted it in different ways so he wasn’t sure what was real and what was fake. Listening once more as Jed ran through their witnesses, Eddie couldn’t help but laugh when Jed said that it was a lot. “You’re right, that is a lot,” he chuckled. How he was going to remember all this he had absolutely no idea but he knew that he had to try. Eddie’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment as Jed said that they would start with one strength and one weakness. Eddie had so many questions right now but he knew that most of those, if not all of them, would probably be answered as Jed showed him everything so he knew that he just had to be patient. “Could you show me what half shifting looks like?” he asked. That was something that he hadn’t heard of before so he couldn’t deny that he was curious. “Wolfsbane would also be good to start with. I’ve heard of it but I’ve never seen it.”JED SALTZMAN
