Sam Winchester:
It had been a few weeks at least since Sam had been in Bobby's cabin. Sam was sure that Dean and Bobby would have spoken about it unless Bobby kept it a secret from Dean due to sending both the hunter and Lucifer to God knows where. It had taken Sam a while to heal physically from the removal of the spell. He refused to look too closely at his mental and physiological health like he always did. He thought it better not to look that deeply until Dean and Bobby did it for him. Sam knew if he looked too deeply at how broken he was then, he would go down a dark path, and he wasn't ready to do that. So instead, he was focused on fixing his relationships with his family and killing Lucifer. The hunter needed an almost impossible goal to keep him focused on the case, to have a purpose of reaching for. However, the case had no starting point yet, so going to the family it is. The hunter made his way to his old hotel room. He hoped that Dean hadn't moved on to somewhere else in the year or two that he had been a vessel. Sam went to the door and raised his hand. He stopped like this for a few seconds, but those few seconds felt like an eternity. The younger Winchester knocked on the door and waited with bated breath. He didn't realise he had been holding his breath until he let out a large sigh. This had to be done even if he was nervous.

━ i’ll keep fighting ... till i got nothing left ━
WITH being a Winchester, normalcy wasn't exactly something that they were able to have, no matter how much they wished. Dean had accepted the fact that he would die in this life, that he would die doing what he did best: huntin,' and he was fine with that. He had come to terms with it, as he was sure Sam did as well. The two of them had been cursed from the gecko. The two never had a chance, no thanks to those winged bastards up top. It was literally written in the stars and that sentiment disgusted the hell outta him, but there was quite literally nothing he could do about it. What's done was done and that was just the cards he was given. But despite all the crap he and Sam had been through over the years, one good thing came out of it. Ben, his son. His own flesh and blood, something Dean didn't think he would ever be able to have, and yet, he did. He got the one thing he had craved as he got older and he was just glad he could have a son, the only thing he worried about though, was screwin' him up just like John had done to him and Sam. But no matter what came his way, the one thing he would not do was treat Ben the way John treated him and Sam.
Sitting inside of the musty motel room, Dean looked around and sighed heavily. He really needed to find something better than this crap hole he and Sam had been living in ever since moving to Mystic Falls, but he didn't even know where to start. He and Sam had only ever really lived in motel rooms, bouncing from one room to the next. But there was only so much of one room he could take when he was setting up residency in the town. Maybe Ric would know something or have a lead on some place in town? Ot was worth a shot and if he was able to get his own room? Even more worthwhile. Don't get him wrong, he loved his brother, but Dean liked his own space and the one thing he never really had was his own room. A place to call his own, to decorate how he liked, hell, to have his own bed that he could call his. That would be the dream and may be one that would come true soon, who knows.
Until then, he was stuck in the cramped motel room, hunched over the laptop as he searched for cases or anything really to keep his mind off the fact that Sam was MIA, again, for the past few weeks. Bobby had told him that Sam had skipped out on him at his cabin. All Dean cared about was that Lucifer was gone from his brother and that Sam was okay. But he didn't know if Sam were okay because he hadn't heard a peep from him. No calls, no texts, nothin.' It was radio silence from Sam and it was driving him absolutely crazy with worry. Last time Sam went missin' he had been possessed by Lucifer. Dean's knee bounced nervously up and down as he scrolled through news articles, most of them about Mystic Falls. It was crazy how much supernatural activity went on in this place, but given the fact that there was a literal gate of hell in it, he wasn't so surprised. Gates like that were a supernatural beacon, drawing all sorts of uglies in from all corners of the country. Absolute insanity.
A knock at the door caused Dean's head to perk up. He wasn't expecting anybody, Ben nor Bobby had told him they were swingin' by. Standing up, Dean grabbed his gun off of the table and cocked it, holding it down by his side as he cautiously approached the door. With the gun pressed up against the door, Dean used his free hand to open the door and who was on the other side surprised him. "Sammy?" He asked as he opened the door fully. Low and behold, there was his little brother standing in the doorway, looking rough as hell. Putting the safety on his gun, Dean placed it onto the table by the door and pulled Sammy into the room, enveloping him into a firm hug, slapping him on the back in a brotherly manner before releasing him. "Where the hell have you been?" He asked, wanting to know where the hell his brother had been and why he hadn't bothered to answer any of his calls or texts. The lack of communication from him had been nerve wracking for the older Winchester and that was putting it lightly.

Sam Winchester:
The last thing Sam expected was for Dean to welcome him with open arms. He certainly was expecting tests before he, himself, even considered hugging his brother. Sam didn't care about it at that moment. Instead, he was grateful for the first comforting contact for years. He had missed his brother and family so much. The younger Winchester knew how much he had missed out on and the hurt he had caused everyone since even before he said yes. If he knew this was how he would be treated, he would have done it even sooner. And there it was. The line of questioning. "Funny story." He returned the pat onto his brothers back before he stepped back. "No tests to check I am not him?" He closed the door behind him before looking to his brother. He shrugged. For he knew that the being in front of him was his brother. Hell wouldn't try and pull that, would they? But, even if they did, Dean wouldn't let them."One of the places that I never wanted to be admitted to again, and the second I am free, I end up there straight away." He shrugged. "Got any beers in?" Sam looked around and took in the motel room had not changed much. Had Dean been hanging on to hope that Sam would appear one day out of the blue, like now and go on as nothing had happened. Sam hoped they could, but he also knew that things had changed beyond the ability to go back. "When Bobby sent Lucifer and me away. I fought him, Dean. I needed to win. I couldn't let him win again." He shook his head. "I won but barely. Getting rid of the bitches spell required a lot. I woke up in a mental hospital with nothing but hospital rags. I would have reached out if I could. I had to make them believe I wasn't mental talking about the Devil and demons in my sleep." He looked back to his brother. "That was the hardest part." He smiled as he joked anxiously to lower the tension he had been feeling.

━ i’ll keep fighting ... till i got nothing left ━
SHOULD Dean had run his series of tests on Sam before giving him a hug and letting him inside? Yeah probably, but in that moment Dean didn't care too damn much, he was just glad to see his brother. He would deal with the consequences later. The two had been through so damn much the past couple of years that he was just glad his brother was free of Lucifer and back to his usual self, well, as usual as one could get after being taken for a ride by the devil. Either way, Dean was sure Sam was surprised with his reaction, probably expecting him to bombard him with tests to make sure Sam was actually Sam. That's what he had done in the past, and that would've been smart on his end to do so, but in that moment, he didn't care. He was just glad to see his brother again. One not under Lucifer's possession.
And honestly? He would consider that a win in his book.
'Funny story. No tests to check I am not him?' Sam asked as he slapped him on his back before pulling away to close the door behind him before turning to look at him. Dean shook his head, "I don't need to run any, I know it's you Sammy." He said as he walked over to the fridge and pulled out a beer just as he had asked for one, tossing one at Sammy in the process before sitting down onto the edge of the bed as he waited for Sam to explain to him where the hell he had been this entire time since being free of Lucifer. Dean knew he should have run some tests and he knew Dad was probably rolling over in his grave at the fact he hadn't run any, it wasn't like him to not do so, but he knew this was Sammy in front of him and not Lucifer, Bobby had told him of such. Lucifer was out of Sammy, the spell they had cast had worked, but the only issue now was the fact that Lucifer was nowhere to be found, which he couldn't lie... worried the hell outta him.
'When Bobby sent Lucifer and me away. I fought him, Dean. I needed to win. I couldn't let him win again. I won but barely.' Dean listened intently as Sam spoke, explaining how when Bobby had sent him and Lucifer away, that he had fought like hell to free himself from the archangel's grasp, and that he had come out on top, just like he had last time. "All that matters is that you won, Sammy. You won, you beat that son of a bitch." He said, taking a long swig out of his beer before setting it down onto the table beside of him.
'Getting rid of the bitches spell required a lot. I woke up in a mental hospital with nothing but hospital rags. I would have reached out if I could. I had to make them believe I wasn't mental talking about the Devil and demons in my sleep. That was the hardest part.'
"So this entire time that's where you've been? The looney bin? How the hell did you end up there of all places? How did you even get out?" He questioned, wondering just how the hell he had ended up there of all places, but more than that, why he hadn't tried to leave sooner and reach out. Was he scared that Lucifer was still lurking around? Just waiting for his opportunity to snatch him back up, take him for another ride? Dean didn't get it, but he was hoping Sammy would be honest with him and just tell him what the hell had happened after he and Lucifer were split apart. "What have you been doing since getting out?" He asked after a few moments of silence between the two, taking a few more swigs out of his beer in the process. There were so many unanswered questions running through his brain in that moment, ones he hoped Sam would answer. Damn, Dean was just glad he had his brother back, it felt like things were back to normal, back when it was just the two of them against the world.

Sam Winchester:
Sam couldn't explain his emotions when his brother said tests weren't needed as he knew it was him. Sam was still thinking that maybe a part of Lucifer was still in him, be it his grace or part of his psyche had merged with his own and yet Dean believed in him more than himself. Wasn't that the story of the Winchesters? They had more faith and belief in the other than they believed in themselves. After what he had done both before saying 'yes' and after, he didn't see how anyone would have faith in him, family included. He had killed children, after all. That shouldn't be forgiven. The fact that Dean both believed in him gave him all the faith he needed in himself. The younger Winchester caught the beer and opened it. Sam couldn't help but scoff when Dean said that his freedom was all that mattered. The archangel blade was now in the wind, and so was Lucifer. What if he had it? What if someone was using it as a bargaining chip? He concluded Lucifer didn't have it the more he thought about it. Why else would he have gone into hiding? The Winchester was certain that Lucifer would have come knocking if he had the blade. Did Lucifer think that the human still had it? Sam couldn't be too sure. "I didn't win, Dean; he's still alive. I got free; it is a stalemate." A win would be when that bastard was six feet under permanently. Lucifer had lost his perfect vessel, and Sam freed himself, but neither side got what they wanted. He took a long swig of his drink. Sam nodded slowly. "Yeah." He cleared his throat. "Getting rid of Rowena's spell meant carving it off my skin with the archangel blade. It looked like I stabbed myself." In truth, Sam did have access to the phone in the last week, but he was worried that Hell had gotten to Dean or Bobby as payback for getting free. Sam didn't want to know if that was the truth until he was free. He couldn't handle the thought of his family being hurt; otherwise, there would have been little reason to get out of the looney bin. He took another sip as he sat at the table. "I had to convince them that we were religious, and that was why I was muttering about Hell and Lu- him in my sleep." He shrugged. "I also may have dusted off the ol' puppy dog eyes and lied a little. Told them someone else stabbed me." He smirked and shrugged. He was always a good lair with a good poker face when needed. It was a plus side of his family upbringing. Sam could almost always blag his way out of a weird situation. "I haven't been out long. I got a change of clothes to look a little better before turning up here." Dean was his first point of call when getting out. When he knew he was genuinely free, he went straight to his brother. Dean would know what to do next.

━ i’ll keep fighting ... till i got nothing left ━
DEAN knew his brother better than anyone else ever would. The two had been through so damn much throughout their lives. Old Dean would've definitely done every test in the book on Sam, and maybe he should have. But Dean was exhausted, he was tired of fighting, but he knew he would never stop. How could he? After everything that had happened, he just couldn't throw in the towel. When the time came, he would go out swingin,' just like he had always said. He would come out bloody and fighting, till he had nothing left in him. Anyone who knew Dean knew this all too well. But with failing to help Sam for so long, he had felt so damn defeated. Like he was losing his touch, as if nothing he did made any damn difference in the grand scheme of things. God he needed a win, and thankfully, by some miracle, Dean had gotten just that when his brother knocked on that door moments ago.
Damn he was just glad to see his brother again, without that dick of an archangel riding him. He could see now how much Sam had struggled and he was internally beating himself up over it. Dammit, he was supposed to protect his little brother and he had failed on more than one account. But with how Sam looked, Dean needed to be there for him, more than for himself. Dean had to be that belief system for Sam, that he had to have faith in him and that after everything that had happened, of what Lucifer made Sam do, it wasn't his fault. It was Lucifer's. Anyone who had anything to say about Sam and what happened would have to go through him and trust him when he said this, they wouldn't like it.
Sam caught the beer he had thrown at him and he listened as Sam spoke, about how he didn't win, how Lucifer was still breathing. "Sammy, you gotta take this for what it's worth and that's the fact that you're free. He may be free roaming right now, but we will regroup and figure out how to kill the bastard once and for all." Dean knew it would be difficult to convince Sam otherwise, but he had to at least try. The two of them had never been one to give up or to roll over. This time was no different, except now Sam had backup and would not be going into this battle alone. He'd be damned if he tried to after what he had done before. Dean wouldn't allow his brother to go through this alone. No matter what.
Dean couldn't help put wince when Sam said he had to carve the spell off of his skin with the archangel blade. Damn, that had to hurt like hell. Dean took another long swig out of his beer as Sam sat down at the table, continuing to talk about his time at the mental hospital and how he had to convince them that he wasn't looney. 'I haven't been out long. I got a change of clothes to look a little better before turning up here.' Dean couldn't lie and say that didn't make him feel relieved that he was Sam's first point of contact after getting out. He was glad that Sam came straight to him. "I'm glad you came to me first. Hell, I'm just glad to know you're alive. I know Bobby and Ben will be happy to know you're back in one piece." He explained to his brother as he used his free hand to pat his brother on the back reassuringly.

Sam Winchester:
Sam was glad his brother had faith but couldn't find it within himself. The younger Winchester was worried that Bobby would feel the same as the last time he had said 'yes' After all, he had been reckless and didn't listen like the last time. Then there was Ben as well. What would his nephew feel after Sam had almost killed him, he hadn't been involved last time Sam didn't know if he would be the black sheep again. The hunter finally felt free, but he had felt free last time when he recently went to others for help. Part of him wasn't sure, but he remembered kicking Lucifer out this time; he had checked the site of the spell every time he was alone to be sure, and it was gone. He was free. However freedom is subjective. He knew that he could never be truly free until Lucifer was dead. His hunting life would go on forever; it was in his blood, literally and physically. Sam was determined that after he lost Jess and the revealed of the demon blood in him that he would keep fighting until he was finally dead and buried. If he could get a family on the side, it would be a bonus, but he wouldn't drag anyone else into this life or be burdened with the possibility of hereditary demon blood. The hunter knew what he wanted, but he knew he couldn't have it, so he would do everything to protect the family he still had left, even if that meant putting on an act, so they didn't worry and moved on. All he wanted now were things to return to how they had been, but that had all changed. The younger Winchester was confident that he wasn't ready to return physically to hunting and even if he wanted to. The Winchester knew that if he went into the field, he would be watched for any mile meter out of line or anything wrong, and he couldn't deal with that; it would be dangerous for his partner, and he couldn't put others in danger. He also knew that he wasn't mentally stable enough to either. "The blades in the wind, Dean. I lost it." Sam didn't think they stood a chance without an archangel blade, there were only four in the whole of existence, and he managed to lose it instead of using it. It could have been over if he had used the blade as he had intended rather than cutting the ward away. It could have all been over. It would have hurt his loved ones but what was to follow now may hurt them more or even kill them. He couldn't have that on his conscience as well. The human was too tired to fight now; all he needed was to recoup and get a little bit of his mind in order before they even thought about taking down Lucifer again. After what happened the last time he separated from Lucifer, it would have been so easy to use the blade, but he could tell his soul was still attached this time, but he didn't know how this bout had changed it or him. Sam didn't want to be a burden on his family like last time, but he wanted to kill Lucifer and live. He wanted to beat him and boast about it after. For now, though, he just had to make it one day at a time. His family would be his rock and belief system, but he didn't want them to worry about him. "I'm glad to be back too. Before I see them or come here, I need a proper meal and fresh clothes." He glanced down and himself and took another sip of his beer. "And more beer. The first one I've enjoyed in a few years." He smiled. Tag: DEAN WINCHESTER Notes: I thought I had replied to this three times! Sorry Words: 670

━ i’ll keep fighting ... till i got nothing left ━
IT was just a damn relief that Sam was back and in one piece. Dean couldn't count the times he stayed up worrying about where the hell Sam was or if Lucifer had won and got rid of Sam. With not hearing a damn thing from his brother, Dean was beginning to think the worst, but he fought that downwards spiral every damn day. He couldn't let himself think the worst, couldn't let himself lose hope that he would find Sammy alright and Lucifer free. Thankfully, that had been the case. Sam was okay for the most part, from what he had seen, didn't have any scratches, bumps, or bruises on him. But that didn't mean he was okay either. Dean had seen first hand the mental torture Sam had been through before and he only hoped to God that wasn't the case again, but when it came to Lucifer, he could never be too sure. Lucifer was known to play games, especially mind games, and especially when it came to Sam, his 'one true vessel.'
But Dean would be damned if he would let Lucifer get his brother again. Two times now that has happened. And that was two times damn many.
One thing wad for certain though, now that Sam was back, there was no way in hell he was letting him out of his sight. More than that, he knew Sammy needed him right now as he could tell he didn't have much faith in himself, or that everything would be okay. Which, Dean didn't exactly know if everything would be okay, hell, he wasn't a psychic. But he had to keep the faith, for both of them right now. Sam was broken, that much was evident just by looking at him. He knew Sam was beating himself up over saying 'yes' for a second time and more than that, what that bastard had made him do while he was possessing him. But nothing Sam had done was his fault, it was Lucifer's. And Dean wouldn't rest until that bastard wasn't just locked back up in the cage, but dead.
'The blades in the wind, Dean. I lost it.' Sam said, and Dean couldn't deny that he wasn't disappointed to hear that. The archangel blade was one that gave them the edge over those winged freaks, especially the archangels. Now that the blades were in the wind, they would have to think of something else. "We'll find another way." He said, patting his brother on the back. But right now, Dean wasn't worried about anything else other than the fact that Sam was here and Lucifer free. That was his main focus, his brother. What Sam needed now was to recover and try and move past this, to get back to his usual self, if that were even possible. Dean remembered how long it took him last time to recover, to get back to himself... he just hoped it wasn't worse.
'I'm glad to be back too. Before I see them or come here, I need a proper meal and fresh clothes. And more beer. The first one I've enjoyed in a few years.' Dean nodded, agreeing with Sam. "We can get you all of that. We can head to the Grill once you're showered and have fresh clothes on. Get you a proper meal and some beer. We'll worry about the rest later." Dean said, finishing off the beer that he had in his hand, setting the empty bottle onto the table. When Sam was in the shower, he would send Bobby and Ben a text, letting them know that Sam was back and Lucifer free. He knew they would be relived to hear it. After everything that they had been through, he was glad that for now, they had a win under their belt. And while Lucifer was still alive and kickin,' him being out of Sam was enough of a win for him.
For now.

Sam Winchester:
Sam liked Dean's optimism, but he also knew that His brother was putting it on for him. Dean was never very optimistic, and to hear they lost their significant advantage, Sam knew that Dean was trying to keep their spirits up. He admired his brother for it, but he knew he didn't believe that. How could he? Lucifer would have another vessel by now as they were getting Nik ready, or at least that's what they told him. They didn't have a weapon to hurt Lucifer, let alone kill him, and they had no idea where he was. They had an advantage, and now Lucifer and Hell were five steps ahead or at least that's what it felt like to Sam. Sam didn't know whether he could handle being in public. What if one of the special children or their loved ones spotted him? What would he do if someone thought he was Lucifer? The human also knew, however, that the motel room wouldn't have any decent food, so it was his only option. The hunter nodded at the idea of a shower and fresh clothes. He downed his drink and made his way to the bathroom. "Good idea. I will have to make myself presentable, so may be awhile." He smiled as he shut the bathroom door behind him. He needed a shave, for starters. Sam took his time in the shower and shaving his face. When he wiped the mist from the mirror, he saw a flash of red in his eyes. He held onto the sink tightly and blinked hard. "You're not real. I'm free." He then opened his eyes, and they were back to his normal hazel.Sam then finished shaving and drying off before wrapping the towel around his waist, going to the bedroom's wardrobe, and picking out some clothes. Sam took them back into the bathroom and got dressed before leaving and pulling on his shoes. He felt like a new man. Now he was wearing his clothes and felt fresh again. He would never take a shower for granted again.

━ i’ll keep fighting ... till i got nothing left ━
Usually it was Sam that was the optimistic one, but ever since he said yes to Lucifer for the second time, that hadn't been the case. Then again, he'd been gone for god knows how long, probably tryin' to piece himself back together after Lucifer nearly destroyed him, but like always, Sam found a way to come out on top. He'd beat the devil again and he was free. As free as one could be after literally being possessed by the friggin' devil. So until Sam was back in one piece again, Dean had to step up and be that hopeful, optimistic person, even if it were out of character. He had to put on this show, for his brother's sake. But being optimistic was proving to be more and more difficult considering that Lucifer was MIA and the only weapon they had to use against him was nowhere to be found. Whatever advantage they had was long gone by now. So they were right back to square zero.
And Dean didn't like the sound of that at all. Not one bit.
But he couldn't think about that right now. Right now he had to worry about Sam and getting him back on his feet, starting with him taking a shower and changing his clothes. One step at a time. He knew Sam may find it difficult going out in public after what he'd been through, but he couldn't stay cooped up in this damn motel room for the rest of his life. He had to get out and try to move past this, to try and heal and get back to work. Because regardless if Sam was ready or not, Lucifer was still out there. Monsters were still out there runnin' a muck. The huntin' life didn't slow down because of one disaster, no matter how much hunters wished it did. To give them some sort of a break, but that was a luxury they didn't get.
Nor would they ever get.
Thankfully Sam was game for grabbing a bite to eat and just getting the hell out of this motel room, but first showering and changing clothes. 'Good idea. I will have to make myself presentable, so may be awhile.' Dean only nodded and watched the bathroom door close. Dean downed the rest of his drink this time and rubbed his temple, frustrated and relieved all in one. He was glad Sam was back and in one piece, or so it seemed. But he was frustrated as hell that they were back to square one, that they didn't know where Lucifer was and didn't know where the weapon that could end that son of a bitch once and for all was. He'd have to talk with Bobby, see if he knew anything, or even knew where to start, because he sure as hell didn't.
Minutes passed and Sam finally emerged from the bathroom after having grabbed some clothes. He looked brand new, like his old self again. "Look at ya, brand spankin' new. C'mon, let's go. I'm stavin.'" He said, gesturing towards the door. Dean grabbed his jacket and headed towards the door. Dean knew Sam could use a hot meal, probably had one in some time with what he'd been through. This was only the first step, and it would take some time to get Sam back to his old self, but it was a good first step. At the end of the day, Sam was back and Lucifer was nowhere to be found. He was just glad to have his brother back.
