━ fading like a DEATH STAR. ━ Castiel watched from the street facing the motel as Claire left the establishment, wearing her training outfit as she started her jog, her headphones in place to disconnect her from the world and keep her focus on one thing only: running. It was seven in the morning as always, but rather than him leaving after making sure that she was alright, he decided to have a chat with the young Winchester about a serious matter regarding Claire, his daughter. Now, he was aware that she was not actually his daughter, but he was beginning to see her as such. He cared for her as such. She was like Henrik to him, both meant quite a lot to him. That's not to say that Ben didn't mean a lot to him as well, he knew how much he meant to Sam and Dean and the young boy was strong, carrying a strong resemblance to his father, whom he knew all too well and that was more than enough to make Castiel carry the same type of affection for him.
But there were questions ringing in his head that needed to be asked and what a better way to ask them than to appear inside the young hunter's room without a warning other than the sound of his wings flapping. He appeared within the heart of the room, blue eyes relaxing upon the sleeping form of the hunter. Dean had warned him about doing something of this sort one too many times, mentioning something about it being creepy, but Castiel did not know any other way.
Well, he could always knock but it was already too late for that. He was certain that Ben was going to sense his presence in the room soon enough. He was like his father, after all. Castiel took a few steps forward so that he was standing next to the bed, his head tilting slightly to the side as he watched Ben sleep. He could tell that he cared about Claire a lot and that Claire cared about him as well, having brought up his name in a few conversations with her only to see the way her expression softened and her lips stretched into a smile.
They seemed ━ in love. Castiel wasn't going to stand in their way and he knew that if Claire were to see him right now, she would certainly give him an earful but he knew that her jogs took usually an hour, so he had quite a bit of time beforehand to discuss matters with the young Winchester.

During the school year Ben always made sure to get up early, he often liked to go for a run before school but now the summer was upon them and Ben knew that he wanted to make the most of it while it lasted. Two years ago his uncle had killed all the other Special Children and freed Lucifer from the cage and over the course of the last year they’d had a supernatural hit list to contend with. Ben knew that the threats they were facing were far from over but right now things were going better than they had done for a long time and Ben knew that he wanted it to stay that way for as long as possible. They had all been through so much over the last few years and Ben had realised a while ago that it was important to make the most of the good times while they lasted. Ben had seen people that he cared about die during his time in Mystic Falls and he had even died himself but thanks to Henrik they were all back where they belonged and Ben knew that he was incredibly lucky to be able to say that. He had tried to make his dad promise that he wouldn’t make a deal to bring him back but his dad had done just that anyway. Years had passed since then and Crowley still hadn’t called in the favour that he knew of and Ben honestly hoped that it stayed that way. There were some mornings when Ben joined Claire on her morning run but that day he had decided to sleep in. That wasn’t something that he had the luxury of doing too often these days and he knew that it wouldn’t hurt to get a little extra rest for once. It wasn’t a surprise to Ben to find that Claire’s side of the bed was empty when he woke up since she went for a run at the same time every morning but what did surprise him was that he could sense another presence in the room and as he opened his eyes he lifted his gaze to find none other than Castiel watching him. “What the hell?” Ben asked as he quickly sat up in bed, his eyes locked on the angel for a moment before looking around to try and figure out what was going on. “Did something happen to Claire or my dad, are they alright?” he asked, pretty sure that that was the only reason why the angel would have suddenly decided to pay a visit like this. There was a time when he had blamed Castiel for taking away his memories of Dean and the supernatural world but those days were long gone. He knew that Castiel had only done as his dad had asked of him so now it was all water under the bridge. CASTIEL

━ fading like a DEATH STAR. ━ Ben reminded him so much of his father, their mannerisms were quite similar, almost to the point where it drew a gentle smile on Castiel's lips. The young man's reaction was expected and it did make Castiel feel a little bit guilty for scaring him. "Hello, Ben." He greeted him, his voice soon making itself known in the silence of the room. He took a small step back to put some distance between himself and Ben's bed, hoping that it would lessen the young man's panic.
"No." Castiel answered, though he seemed to pause for a moment, noticing how his answer sounded. "No, nothing has happened to them, I mean. They are alright." He clarified a moment later, his voice soft as he spoke, blue eyes focused solely on the younger man in front of him. Castiel glanced over at the door as if he could tell whether Claire was close or not. He couldn't, though. He simply moved his eyes back to Ben, counting on the fact that Claire's run takes a long time which offers him some privacy with the young Winchester.
"My apologies, I realize now that knocking would have been a safer option." Castiel offered the other an apologetic smile as he glanced down momentarily. "Old habits die hard, I believe." He added a moment later as he took a step back and moved to grasp one of the chairs, moving it to where he was standing before. He took a seat shortly after, his hands resting on his thighs for a moment before he leaned forward on his elbows. "I have a few things I would like to discuss with you. I waited until Claire was out to give us some privacy." Castiel clarified why he chose now to reach out to Ben for his questions.
"Your relationship with Claire is what I want to discuss. Now, I know I am not her father and merely inhabiting the body of her father but━" Castiel ran his tongue over the surface of his bottom lip momentarily as his blue eyes relaxed on Ben. "I do care about her safety and her well-being. I suppose I am worried about what heartbreak might do to her." Castiel explained with a quick nod of his head following as his brows pinched together. "That's not to say that I do not care about you the same way, Ben. I hope you know that you are like a son to me, as well." Castiel offered a moment later, not wanting Ben to think that he did not care about him or his safety and well-being. "Would it be okay with you if I asked some questions just so that I could feel━ at ease? "

Ben had grown used to the way that he sometimes woke up to find that Claire had already gone on her run. Sometimes he joined her but other days he preferred to sleep in for a while and that had definitely been what he had needed that morning. He hadn’t even woken up when she had gone out but the moment he began to stir he knew that there was someone else in the room and he couldn’t deny that he was surprised to find Cas. There was a time when he had blamed the angel for what had happened to his mom, it had been Cas who had locked away their memories of Dean and the supernatural and it had taken Ben a while to move on from that but in the end he’d realised that Cas wasn’t to blame and neither was his dad. It was the vampire who was responsible and when he had realised that it had made it that much easier to move on. Now Cas was family to Ben in his own right rather than just through his connection to Claire and he knew that that was just as it should be. “Good,” Ben said, starting to relax slightly as Cas said that his dad and Claire were alright. It still didn’t explain why Cas was there but he at least knew that it wasn’t because something had happened to the people he loved. “Knocking would have been preferable,” Ben nodded, knowing that it would have saved him from worrying at the very least. He had heard how Cas liked to just appear in a room and he had seen it himself a few times over the last few years but there was usually a reason for it. This time it seemed completely random and as the angel moved to sit down and said that he’d waited until Claire went out to give them some privacy, Ben had a feeling that he wasn’t going to like where this was going. “Why do I get the feeling this is going to be an awkward conversation?” he asked as he climbed out of bed and pulled on a t shirt so it came to rest over his pants and sat down on the side of the bed, rubbing the sleep away from his eyes as he did so. As Cas began to explain why he was there, Ben lifted his gaze to look at the angel and he felt a smile tug at the corner of his lips. “I know I am, you’re family to me too,” Ben admitted. He knew that things were awkward between Claire and Cas but he could see how much the guy cared about her and it was for that reason that he knew he had to go along with whatever this was. “For what it’s worth I have no intention of breaking her heart,” he added. He cared about Claire and he had done for a long time so he had no intention of hurting her. “Go for it,” he nodded as Cas asked if he could ask him some questions. “I’ll answer as best I can.”CASTIEL

━ fading like a DEATH STAR. ━ Castiel raised his hands in mock surrender before he nodded his head to acknowledge Ben’s words. “My apologies.” He would definitely keep that in mind next time. There were still things that Castiel did without thinking them through at first, but hopefully, coming into people’s unannounced won’t happen again, especially if he does it through teleportation. Castiel was pretty sure that if Claire had been here as well, she would have given him an earful. So, he will make sure next time to knock first and wait for the door to be opened before stepping inside. “Most likely because it will be.” That was Castiel’s reply. He was certain that it was going to be an awkward conversation because Castiel was simply not that good at acting like a parent. He wasn’t good at expressing how he feels openly and if he did express them, he didn’t do it correctly. Castiel took a seat and watched as Ben momentarily left to put on a shirt before his attention drifted forward again, to give him some privacy before his eyes settled on the younger again when he came back into his line of vision.
Castiel felt a small smile tug at the corner of his lips at Ben’s words before he nodded his head, looking relieved to hear that Ben believed just how important he was to him, too. “I’m glad.” The young boy really did mean a lot to him, so did his father and uncle. They were Castiel’s family. They were the first ones to ever teach Castiel the importance of caring about something — or rather, someone. They really did help Castiel become the person that he is today.
Castiel nodded his head slowly as he listened to the younger as he told him that he had no intention of breaking Claire’s heart. Castiel did trust the young man not to hurt Claire, but he was still worried about her. “That’s good.” Castiel said with a quick nod of his head following. “Alright.” Castiel released a small hum as his brows furrowed together as he attempted to think of a few questions before he leaned forward on his elbows, letting them rest on his thighs. “Have you dated anyone before Claire? Anyone who might, perhaps, feel jealous about seeing you with someone new?” Castiel questioned, his blue eyes fixed solely on Ben. “Do you happen to have any enemies? Ones who might hurt Claire to get back at you?”
