November 2020 Elias still couldn’t believe that any of this was happening. Two days ago he was living with his foster parents doing everything he could in order to clear their debts but that felt like a lifetime ago now. Their home, if he could even call it that, had been broken into and his foster parents had been killed. Elias had lost his life too and he knew that the memories of the attack would haunt him for some time to come. Over the years he had learned how to be resilient and he had bounced back after everything that had happened but he would be lying if he said that the events of his past hadn’t started chipping away at him. He had lost everyone that he had ever started to care for and even though his foster parents weren’t good people he still knew that they hadn’t deserved to go out like that. In a way Elias knew that it was probably a blessing that he didn’t know exactly what happened after that but he knew enough. Somehow he was quite literally reborn from the ashes and if what Ethan and Antonio had told him was right, and he was pretty sure that it was, then he was a phoenix. The teenager hadn’t known a thing about the supernatural world until then but what they had told him made sense. Some strange things had happened in his past, things that he just couldn’t explain, and now they were giving him an explanation. It was an incredible one but it was an explanation nonetheless. Hospitals were something that Elias had grown used to given that he’d spent time in them before and he had felt sure that he’d known what was going to happen next. He had ended up spending a whole day and two nights in hospital so that the doctors could keep an eye on him and each time they’d sedated him so that he could get a good night’s rest after everything that had happened but when the time came for him to be discharged, something unexpected happened. He had felt sure that he would end up going back into care just like he had done after his old foster mother’s boyfriend tried to kill him but Antonio and Ethan had turned up with the social worker instead. They’d spent a lot of time with him while he was in the hospital and he soon found out that they had done more than he ever could have asked for. They had applied to become his emergency foster parents and their request had been granted. From what the social worker said there weren’t any places in the State for him so it was either he go with them or he would be shipped off to another State like he had been before but he knew which option he would rather go for anyway. He trusted the two men and Adelina and Gabriela were the only friends he had so he knew that he didn’t want to leave them behind before he had to. All of his things were destroyed in the fire but the truth was that he’d never had much anyway. He had moved around so much that any trinkets he had picked up along the way had been lost a long time ago but this time he found himself without any clothes or anything so he had to borrow some from the lost and found department before he could leave the hospital considering that his own were torn and bloody. Elias was quiet throughout the ride to their home. He had been there before but now he was suddenly nervous that he was putting them out. He knew that this was only temporary just like every other home he’d ever had was but he still knew that he was lucky that they had even considered going out of their way to do this for him. Climbing out of the car once they had come to a stop, Elias followed the two men into the house and it wasn’t long before Antonio was going to check on the girls which left Elias alone with Ethan. “Are you sure this is ok?” he asked for what was probably the hundredth time. “I appreciate what you’re willing to do for me but I don’t want to put you out.”ETHAN ALVAREZ

| E than had experienced the scare of a lifetime when he found Elias in a section of the apartment that the fire has yet to reach. When he saw him, his heart just sunk. There was a part of him that just immediately knew and his suspicions were proven to be right when Antonio announced that he was gone after checking his pulse. That day, his heart shattered into pieces because Elias was still so young, he still had so much ahead of him. But then the younger burst into flames and it reminded Ethan so much of how Phoenixes come back to life after their death and it made him realize that the younger wasn't human but a Phoenix and it gave him a second chance at life. The relief that flooded him was one that couldn't even be placed into words. Ethan and Antonio had decided to become his emergency foster parents because the thought of letting go of Elias just didn't sit well with him. He needed all the support he could possibly get after such a traumatic situation and he just really needed to stay by his side, show him that everything was going to be okay. He was beyond worried about him and his well-being. The poor boy had suffered enough but it seems like life was not going to let him catch a break any time soon. But either way, Ethan wasn't going to let him face all of this alone. He had Ethan, Antonio and the girls by his side, too. To keep him safe. Ethan was in the car with Toni and Elias, his eyes focused on the road ahead but there were times where he found himself looking over at the younger, watching him with eyes filled with worry and sympathy for the younger. He made a promise within himself to take good care of the younger boy until he found his forever home. But he couldn't deny the fact that he was thinking of actually adopting the boy for real and not just take him in as emergency foster parents. But he wanted him to have some time to relax and unwind from everything that had happened. When the car came to a stop, Ethan hopped out of the car, closing the door behind him as he lingered behind a little bit, waiting for Elias to join them and when he did, he started making his way to the house, nodding his head a few times when Antonio let them know that he was going to check on the girls which left him alone with Elias. He didn't feel awkward or anything, but he did worry quite a bit about saying the wrong thing or making him uncomfortable without meaning to. When Elias asked if he was sure having him here was okay, he looked over at him, his gaze softening. "I'm one hundred percent sure, kiddo." Ethan wasn't so sure when it became a habit for him to call Elias that, but it definitely stuck around a bit. "We want you here. Not just Toni and I, but the girls too. Ela talks 'bout you a lot, y'know." Ethan revealed with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "Don't worry, you're not putting me out. I'm very happy you're here. I really am." Ethan looked over at the younger, his softened expression focused mainly on him as he reached out to give his shoulder a gentle squeeze. "C'mon, lemme show you to your room, hm? We could also go shopping for some clothes and decorations to put in your room," he wanted Elias to fee like his bedroom was his. He wanted him to pick out his own decorations to hang in his bedroom so he could slowly but surely grow comfortable here with them. |

More than a few times over the years Elias had found himself wondering if this was going to be his life forever. He knew that not all kids in the foster system found the one place that they were able to call home but the social workers had seemed so certain at first that he would find his. By the time he was only six years old he had realised that each home he was placed in was only ever going to be temporary and slowly but surely he had found himself giving up on the idea of finding a family that he belonged with. The social workers had kept up the pretence for a while longer before even they too had started to realise that it just wasn’t going to happen for him. Not all of his foster parents were bad people, some of them were really nice and he had enjoyed his time with them while it had lasted but he didn’t truly belong with any of them and he had always known that it was only a matter of time before he was moved on to a new place just like they had. Mystic Falls was meant to be the last stop on the whistle stop tour of foster families, by the time he was sent to live with them he was already seventeen years old and he only had one year left before he would age out of the system and be able to strike out on his own. For a long time he had found himself wanting nothing more than for his eighteenth birthday to roll around but the truth was that now he was scared of that happening. He had seen how easy it was for some people to become monsters at the drop of a hat, the boyfriend of one of his foster mothers had tried to drown him after he had stopped the man attacking his foster sister Kelly and it was only thanks to the paramedics showing up within a couple of minutes that he hadn’t lost his life that day. He knew now that he would have resurrected but they hadn’t known that and Kelly hadn’t been as lucky. She had turned up dead a few days later and Elias had lost his own life a couple of days ago after his foster parents ended up getting on the wrong side of some very bad people. The whole ordeal was sure to take some getting used to and Elias had known that he couldn’t tell the doctors or nurses what had happened because he had known that there was no way that they would ever believe him. He hadn’t been able to talk to the social workers or the police about it either, instead he’d had to tell them a half truth about what had happened and he only hoped that they wouldn’t look into it too much. He knew who was responsible and he had told them that but that was where he hoped that his involvement would come to an end. The only people he had been able to talk to about what had really happened were Antonio and Ethan and he was grateful to them for that. He had hoped that they might have brought Adelina and Gabriela to visit him so he could at least see his friends one last time before he was sent to live in another State since there weren’t any other foster parents or group homes that he could go to but they had said that they hadn’t wanted to upset him any more. As it turned out they’d had another plan, they’d had themselves appointed as his emergency foster parents and Elias still wasn’t sure why they had gone to so much trouble for him but he couldn’t deny that he was grateful. Now the car was coming to a stop outside their home and Elias climbed out slowly. He still wasn’t sure what to make of all of this and he couldn’t help but feel like they were going to realise that they had made a mistake sooner or later but for now he at least had a place to spend the night and that was more than he had dared hope for. As Ethan assured him that they all wanted him there, Elias was still a little sceptical but he felt a smile form on his face nonetheless. “She does?” he asked, not sure whether that was a good or a bad thing. It had surprised him at first when he had befriended the two girls given that he hadn’t had any other friends for a long time but he had found himself liking them straight away and he had quickly come to enjoy their company. He was still getting used to being a friend, though, so he wasn’t sure if what Ethan had said was normal or not. “Thank you,” he said, his smile becoming a little more relaxed as Ethan said that he was happy he was there. The way the man squeezed his shoulder was comforting and it made him feel a little more at ease. He wasn’t used to being around people like Ethan, Antonio and the girls, none of the foster parents he had lived with in the past had been very good at showing emotion or going out of their way to help the way the four of them were but it was something that he had a feeling that he could get used to over time. Elias nodded as Ethan offered to show him to his room before stopping as he went on to say that they could go shopping for some clothes and decorations. “I appreciate the offer but I don’t want you spending a lot of money on me when my being here is only temporary,” he said, knowing that he would only feel guilty if they gave him too much in the short time that he was going to be with them. “I’ll honestly be fine with hand me downs if you and Antonio have some old clothes you don’t need any more,” he assured him. That was what he was used to, Elias hadn’t really had anything be brand new when it was given to him and he didn’t expect that to change now. ETHAN ALVAREZ
