Mystic Falls was a fresh start for Evangeline. She had heard about the small town in Virginia during her travels but the truth was that she had never thought too much about it until she had learned that the Mikaelsons were in town. She had spent years travelling the world so that she could retrieve the dark objects that she and Kol had created in the hope that one of them would be strong enough to free him but by the time that she had learned that his family was in town he had already been freed. For hundreds of years he had been her only constant companion and they had seen the best and worst parts of each other during that time. He was her best friend and the one person that she could trust completely in the world but there was something more to it than that, on her part at least. She had managed to bury it during the decades that had passed since he had been daggered but it had never truly gone away. She hadn’t known what to make of him at first while she was mortal but over time she had come to care about him and that hadn’t changed. Back then he had found a way to make her heart flutter just by walking into a room but she wasn’t a naive girl and she never had been. Back then she had known that nothing could come of it but that hadn’t stopped her from wanting it to. Now they were both different people to who they used to be but the bond between them was still there and it was good just to be around him again. There was a gentler side to him that others didn’t often get to see but Evangeline did and she knew that she was lucky for that.
She could have suggested that they move on after he was freed so that Kol wouldn’t have to worry about his brother losing his temper and daggering him again but the truth was that she hadn’t wanted to do that, nor had she thought that he would have agreed even if she had suggested it. Things were different this time, Kol had all of his siblings in town including the younger brother he had lost a thousand years ago so she knew that there was no way that he would leave them all behind. Evangeline had never known the love of a sibling given that she was the only surviving child that her parents brought into the world so she knew that she would never understand a bond like that but she could understand not wanting to leave family behind. Instead they were both building lives for themselves in town and for Evangeline that included taking over ownership of the Mystic Grill. She had bought the place about six weeks ago and since then she had been getting used to the way that everything worked. She had kept all of the existing staff on and she had started occasionally taking on a bit more of a hands on role. That evening she say the last patron to the door before locking it behind them and turning to the only person still left in the place, one of her employees. “I know it’s late so you’re probably eager to get home but would you mind giving me a hand closing up?”
