Shouldering his heavy kit bag, Bram ushered the last of the players out of the rink. If they were left to their own devices they’d be in there til midnight, running drills, exhausting them to the point where they’d be absolutely useless when practice actually started at 6 tomorrow morning. ”You’ll thank me for this,” he warned them, chuckling as he shook his head. There were still disappointed looks shot over their shoulders at him as they began to disperse. ”Honestly, you’ll thank me for it someday. Go back to your dorms, go home, get some food and some sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow.” One or two were still lingering, beginning to chat to one another as he turned away from the now locked door but most had moved off at least.
Breathing a sigh of relief Bram started off in the direction of his own dorm. Bram was favouring his bad leg already, had been for the last half hour on the ice. Come tomorrow morning he’d likely be coaching from the sidelines rather than right in the middle of it all. Over the last year he’d learned to start paying attention to the messages his body was sending him and right now it was yelling at him to go back to the dorm and lay down with ice on it for an hour before he tried to do his rounds on his floor. No dice though. He’d gotten a call from the RA of one of the girl’s dorm buildings that afternoon, a plea that she knew he’d never be able to turn down. A heating unit had gone out in one of the rooms she was in charge of. She’d reported it but they were saying it would take someone a week to get over there to look at it. All it had taken was one plea from Anita and he’d caved.
At least he was going to get pizza out of it the next night she was off duty. Pizza and … maybe a little more. The two of them had been dancing each other a little bit the last couple of weeks. Bram knew Anita was probably just trying to make her ex a little jealous but he saw no harm in that. Neither one of them was under the impression it would be more than fooling around and they were good with that. The thought had Bram grinning as he walked into the dorm. ”Hey Jeanie,” he called at the RA who was on duty at the desk near the doors on the way in. ”Anita called me about that problem in 312, I said I’d take a look.” Jeanie snorted as he headed for the stairs. ”She knew she’d be able to sucker you in.” Bram raised a hand as he started up them, keeping his grunt held back until he started on the second flight. Sucker made it sound like she’d had to really talk him into it. There hadn’t been much of that at all, he’d just given in on the first ask.
Picturing the ice around wrapped around his knee Bram just about made it to the third floor. The favouring was heavier now, the heavy bag of equipment on his bag a total bitch of a weight. He was glad to let it thud down in front of the room he’d been sent to. The last few days he’d been overdoing it, he needed to take it a little more carefully, especially since it’d only be a few months before he started volunteering at the hospital over the summer. Bram tugged the bit of paper he’d written the name of the room’s occupant on out of his pocket, making sure he had it right before he knocked. Blue eyes rose from it to meet the girl’s as she opened the door. ”Malia? Anita asked me to come over and take a look at the heater in your room, said it wasn’t putting out any hot water.” Offering her a crooked grin, he tipped his head in the direction of his own dorm building. ”I’m an RA from next door.”
