The school year had already come to an end and Tatia still wasn't sure what she was going to do after graduation but she had a bit of time left in which to figure it out and for that she was grateful. A lot of her friends were going to be heading to college soon and given that it was something that had never been an option to Tatia while she was growing up she had thought about joining them but she still wasn't sure. In a way being done with school meant that she could enjoy her future with Elijah but deep down she knew that she wanted to do something with her life for herself as well whether that meant furthering her education or getting a job. Either way she knew that she wanted to take the time to make sure that she found something that was right for her and she was lucky in that she didn't have anyone trying to lead her in a certain direction. Her decisions were her own to make and she couldn't deny that it was an incredible feeling. She had never thought that her life would turn out like this even after she learned the truth about what had happened but she was happy and things had turned out better than she could have hoped for. There was however one decision that she had already made about what she wanted her future to be like. The last thing she wanted was to end up leaving Lukas and everyone else she loved behind again one day so she had been thinking long and hard about what she could do about it. Lukas and the Mikaelsons didn't age, nor did Stefan or Damon, Skye, Caroline or Elena. Right now she was still human and that made her vulnerable. She had already died twice and she had been brought back both times but she knew that she couldn't rely on that happening for a third time. Crowley had brought her back a thousand years after she'd died and she didn't like the thought of putting her loved ones through something like that again. Sickness and old age were both things that could affect her future but the fact that she was a doppelganger also put her at risk. She had talked to Lukas and Elijah about it and she knew that her decision was already made but as much as she loved the two of them she knew that they wanted to protect her from everything that might happen next. She could have gone to Stefan to find out about some of the worst parts of being a vampire but she knew how much the guilt of everything that he had done plagued him and she couldn't bring herself to ask him to relive all of that so she had decided to go in a different direction instead. It had been a long time since she and Kol had last been able to hang out, too long in fact, and she knew that it was about time that they changed that. She wanted to ask him what being a vampire was like for him but she also wanted to see how he was doing and it was with that in mind that she had asked him to meet her at the Grill that day. She knew about the feelings he had once had for her but she also knew that he had moved on a long time ago. The two of them were friends and as she found an empty table she knew that she just had to hope that he would show up. KOL MIKAELSON

Tatia had managed to reconnect with a lot of people from her past during her time in Mystic Falls but one person that she had been meaning to reach out to more was Kol. He had always been a good friend to her, one of her best friends in fact, and she knew that he had been locked away for such a long time by Nik and she couldn’t help but feel bad for him about that. She didn’t know what had happened after she’d died, Elijah had told her bits and pieces but when it came to Kol he really hadn’t told her a lot, but no matter what had happened she knew that there was no way that he would have deserved that. Kol had always been on the outside when it came to his family to an extent, he was different but that was what she had always liked about him. Her heart had been taken by his brother but had things worked out differently then she knew that she could have easily seen herself falling for Kol instead. As it was he had remained her friend and she hoped that he was still one now. It had taken her a long time to get used to the way that things were now but she had managed it with help and now she had not just some really good friends but also her son back in her life. Tatia had never thought that she would ever get to have any of those things again but now she knew that she didn’t want to give them up. She had already died again during the ritual so she had been thinking about becoming a vampire so that she wouldn’t have to worry about that but she knew that she needed to go into it with her eyes open completely if she did. More than anything she didn’t want the people she loved have to sit back and watch while she got older and died one day while they all remained the same – as far as she was concerned she really couldn’t think of anything worse than that. That was why she had asked Kol to meet her that day. She wanted to catch up with him and see how he was doing but she also knew that she could trust him to be brutally honest with her about what it was like to be a vampire. She knew that she could have asked Stefan but she had known that she couldn’t make him relive all of the things he had done just to give her an honest insight on what it was like. Kol was different, she knew that he struggled with it too but he seemed to embrace it as well and that was what she needed right now. She hadn’t been waiting long when a familiar figure joined her and she felt a natural smile work its way across her face. “Kol,” she said, a fondness in her voice as she spoke his name. “I’m glad you decided to come,” she admitted. She had hoped that he would but if she was honest she wouldn’t have blamed him if he hadn’t. As he spoke again Tatia didn’t flinch, she knew that he had been let down by people he’d trusted in the past so she didn’t blame him for being wary but he honestly didn’t have anything to worry about with her. “The main reason I asked you here is because I’ve missed my friend and I want to see how you are. Everything else can wait,” she said honestly as a waitress made her way over to take their order. “Would you like a drink? It’s on me.”KOL MIKAELSON

When Tatia was first brought back she had felt sure that all of the people she loved would have died a long time ago. Elijah had told her that his family were still around but for a long time he and Henrik were the only ones she had come across. Tatia would be lying if she said that she hadn’t missed Kol and Rebekah and she was eager to reconnect with both of them. It was no longer a secret that she was alive, she knew that Elijah and Stefan had wanted to protect her after the ritual and she had kept her identity a secret from Nik to begin with in the hope that he would open up to her more if he thought that she was one of her doppelgangers but that had backfired so ever since then she had been doing her best to live her life like normal. Things seemed to have fallen into place for her over the last few years and with graduation fast approaching Tatia had been thinking about the future more and more. The people she loved were all immortal while she remained human so she knew what she needed to do but finding the courage to make that decision and overcome the difficulties that Kol and Stefan both faced was something that she needed to feel ready for and she knew that her conversation with Kol was likely to play a pretty big part in that. “I’m glad to hear it. I’ve missed you,” she admitted. Kol had been a good friend to her before everything started to change and that was something that she knew she was never going to forget. She still cared about him and nothing was going to change that. Kol would always mean a lot to her so even though she had questions that she wanted to ask him she also wanted to see how he was doing after being daggered for such a long time. That wasn’t something that she ever would have agreed with and she knew that Elijah had regrets about the whole thing but it didn’t change anything for Kol and she couldn’t deny that she was worried about him. Placing her order with the waitress, she offered Kol a smile once they were alone. “Perhaps we can get you some blood later,” she offered, knowing that if Kol needed it then she would willingly offer up some of hers. She was fortunate enough to have only been fed on twice in her life so far, first by Elijah when he’d killed her and later by Nik during the ritual and it wasn’t something that she had wanted to go through again but she knew that for Kol she would make an exception. It didn’t take her long to see the way he was looking around them and she had a feeling she knew who he was looking for. “Don’t worry, Elijah isn’t here. We’ve been spending quite a bit of time together but time apart does us good too,” she explained. She knew that things were tense between some of the Mikaelsons at the moment but Tatia tried to stay out of that as much as possible and she hoped that Kol knew that. “I definitely am,” she agreed. “Are you getting used to all of the changes?” she asked, knowing that things had to have changed a lot since Kol was daggered just like they had during the time she was dead. Things had changed considerably since Tatia had died the first time not just in the world around her but in the people she loved as well. They had all been through so much and seen and done so many things over the years, some of which she knew that they weren’t proud of, but underneath it all she knew that they were still the people that she loved. She had seen it in each and every one of them during the time that she had been back and it had been a little strange getting to know the people that they all were now when for her it felt like not much time at all had passed but she still cared about them and she knew that it had definitely been worth it. One person that she had wanted to reach out to for a while was Kol. He had been one of her closest friends before she’d died and she couldn’t deny that she had missed him. Deep down she had suspected how he had felt about her back then but her heart had belonged to another so she had only ever seen him as her brother. She still saw him as such now and as soon as she had heard that Henrik had freed him from his coffin she had wanted to reach out to him but she had also wanted to give him time to adjust to everything that had changed since he had been locked away. Elijah had filled her in a little about what had happened to Kol and she didn’t agree with Nik’s decision to put a dagger in his brother’s heart one bit so she was glad that he finally had the chance to live his life again once more. Hearing him say that he had missed her too was enough to bring a smile to her face and she reached across to give his hand a gentle squeeze. He had always meant a lot to her and that hadn’t changed so she was glad that they had the chance to catch up again. His next words were enough to give her pause and she found herself studying him carefully for a moment. “Why not?” she asked, unable to keep the curiosity out of her voice as she spoke. She wanted to get to know the man that Kol was now and she wanted to learn more about his experience of being a vampire considering that it was a decision that she had been thinking about making herself but she knew that she wanted to get the full picture first so that she knew what she would potentially be letting herself in for. She had heard about it from Elijah and she knew how much Stefan struggled with it and that struggle was something that Kol faced too so she knew that she needed to know both sides. Nodding as he said that he was getting used to a few of the changes that had happened, Tatia lifted her glass to her lips and took a sip as her gaze came to rest on her once more. “I imagine it can’t be easy but I think you’ll like this time when you get used to it,” she assured him, knowing that there were plenty of things about it that Kol was sure to enjoy. “He was the first person I encountered when I was brought back,” she explained as she set her glass down in front of her once more. “As we talked I remembered how I died so I distanced myself from him for a while but then I realised that it wasn’t his fault. Your mother changed all of your lives and I helped her without knowing what she had planned so I knew that if he was to blame for it then so was I,” she admitted with a shrug. KOL MIKAELSON
