━ that wears the crown━
Adam had been struggling with the manifestation of his own powers for the longest time now. At first, he thought he was merely imagining things, that it was all the stress of being high school and the fact that his exams are drawing closer and closer, but that was not the case and he knew it. A voice in the back of his head continuously told him that it was simply not the stress and that he was going to be a part of something big. He could recall how it all started. With a blazing headache that left him grimacing in pain. But now, it was something else entirely. There was this dream of his that always accompanied him wherever he slept. Let it be on his own bed or right next to Maddy or his best friend's. It was always there.
A pair of yellow eyes as the smell of sulfur filled his nostrils. His voice calling to him, telling him to do unspeakable things that left him shaking from terror. Kill someone? Then he'd dream of himself frying a man just by his touch alone and how his lips would turn into such a menacing smile as if he truly felt no remorse for his horrible actions. Then he'd go down on his knees in front of a man with those yellow eyes. He'd wake up in nothing but cold sweat and rapid breathing. Recently, it just got worse. Way worse and he wasn't sure what to do anymore. No matter how hard he rejects his plans, the man just never stops showing up in his dreams with his twisted and dark plans that leave him trembling in fear.
Adam was pulled out of his thoughts when someone knocked shoulders with him and it was purely intentional if that grin was anything to go by. For the past couple of days, Jo's friends continuously picked on him. "Sup, freak!" Freak. Hearing that never stopped stinging. "What are you going to do to me now? Shock me like you shocked Jo with your bare fuckin' hands like the freak that you are? You belong in an asylum, not here." Jo's friend never stopped throwing those harsh words and clearly didn't care about the pain that was visible on Adam's expression. He kept his head dipped down and started walking to put some much needed distance between him and the taller. "Ya, run away, freak!"
At class, Jo along with his group of five friends would bully him and throw crumbled papers at him but his teachers would always put an end to his misery by kicking the troublemakers out of the class but he knew that outside of class, he had no other choice but to put up with them and their relentless bullying.
And when one of them pushed him away, he was shocked from that touch alone and it only made him angrier. Luckily, he was saved by the bell and one of the teachers coming out to guide the students to their classes. But when the class was over and it was time to go home, he was cornered by Jo and his friends. "You wanna fuck with us, Hawthorne? We'll make you regret laying your hands on us, freak." Even though he had never laid his hands on them and it was them bullying him, he was being punished for something he didn't do. Their punches were unforgiving and so were their kicks and no matter how much he begged them to just stop, they kept going. They dragged him to the alleyway and pushed anyone who was trying to break the fight.
They didn't seem to care that they had gotten his nose and the punch had made him cut his inner cheek so now he was bleeding from both his mouth and nose. They didn't care how hard they kicked and how much it pained Adam. He was the only one caring about them and not wanting to hurt them.
Kill them, Adam. Kill them all.
That man's voice soon came back and he truly wanted nothing more than to do just that. He wanted to fry them with a single touch. He wanted to break their bones in different places, wanted them to jump in front of a moving car. He wanted them to die. When he was dragged up to his feet by none other than Joseph, Adam gripped his hand and squeezed. It wasn't long before the younger was screaming in pain as his arm started showing just how Adam was frying his flesh by the skin contact alone. "Please, Adam, please stop. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, please stop." Adam didn't realize what he was doing and it was like a switch was flipped, Adam was releasing Jo's arm and stepped back, his eyes wide. The second Joseph was released, he started running along with the rest of his guys. Adam looked down at his hands before he wrapped his arm around his abdomen, wincing in pain. He limped his way out of the alleyway, his eyes red from crying and his throat raw from screaming for help but no one came for his aid. They were all scared off by Joseph's friends and he was left truly on his own. Adam didn't want to concern his family by entering his home looking like a mess but he had nowhere else to go. Absolutely nowhere.
