— I HAVE BECOME U N D O N E —
Caroline was once a sweet girl. She was girly and full of light and granted, she was nowhere near perfect but one could tell she was constantly trying to be better, to be liked by those around her. She had lowered her guard around Tatia's lookalike, she had trusted her so blindly without knowing the danger lurking in the corner with every moment spent with her. She had told her a lot of things, she had treated her like a friend and kept talking, even understood her problems and offered support to her, but it mattered none in the end. She had a wicked scheme playing in her mind and Caroline was playing right into her hands, believing her as she pretended to be Tatia. With every moment passing, her chance of coming out of this alive lessened. They had chattered and drank together until it was time for Katherine to finish her play by landing the last blow in Stefan and Elena's faces.
Unfair, isn't it? Being punished for something that's clearly not your fault. But that mattered none. She was going to Katherine's revenge and there was no changing that. With her being compelled to follow and be quiet, she did exactly that and followed her to a dark alleyway next to the Mystic Grill where she was fed Katherine's blood. The liquid dripped down her throat and it tasted like death on her tongue, but it was forced down her throat and into her system and before she knew it, her world was engulfed in nothing but endless black.
Caroline saw her mother in a dreamlike universe, pushing her on the bike.
"Don't let go, mom!" She could see how unbalanced she was on the bike. She remembered that day more than any other. It was her first time riding a bike without someone helping her and making sure she was upright and wasn't kissing the ground underneath. She did well that night and her mother was so proud of her.
"Mom?" Caroline called out of habit and slowly approached her. Her mom still had her back turned to her and when she reached her and touched her shoulder, she turned with her fangs bared and her mouth filled with blood.
Caroline sat up with a gasp, her eyes wide and full of horror. She looked around her, expecting to see some horrid monster lurking about, but she saw no one at all. She slowly pushed herself, her hand on her throat because of how thirsty she felt. What happened? Where's she? She had too many questions and there was no one around to help her answer any of them. Her gums hurt, she felt so different... Something wasn't right.
"I need to get home.." She whispered, her hand moving up to brush her tears away quickly. Caroline gulped dryly and slowly made her way to the exit of the alleyway where her nose was assaulted by a smell that was so irresistible. A man was walking right in front of her with his finger dripping with blood.
"Damn stupid paper." Caroline couldn't tear her eyes off the man's hand as it dripped with blood, her eyes following each droplet. She stumbled out of the alleyway which caught the man's attention, his blue eyes wide with worry.
"Miss, are you okay? Do you need me to call the police?" She couldn't even answer him, she couldn't tear her eyes off his cut and before she knew it, she was yanking him to the alleyway and doing something that frightened her to her core.
She was feeding on someone.
Feeding. She knew about the existence of vampires and were-creatures, but she never thought she'd become one herself. She couldn't stop herself, her control was non-existent at this point. It felt
so good. Drinking his blood was quenching her thirst and she felt like she was surfing high on cloud nine as she continuously sucked on his blood until she couldn't anymore. When she pulled away, the man's lifeless body dropped on the floor and that's when reality sunk in and the weight of her actions dropped on her shoulders.
She'd killed someone. What made it worse was seeing the wedding ring on his ring finger. She'd just stripped a family from an important member and it was all her fault.
All her fault. She took a step back and instantly found herself running before she could stop herself. When she got home, she ran upstairs to head to the bathroom where she found her bloodied face.
"No, no, no, no." Caroline shakily washed her face again and again, trying her best to get the blood off her chin and lips.
"No, please, no." She looked up at her reflection and slowly opened her mouth to see her fangs showing.
What have I become?
