Liam's day didn't start off on a good note. It started with him realizing he was late for school. Perhaps a little too late. So he quickly got up and rushed to the bathroom to do his business and wash up before he jogged to get dressed then he went running out of the door, yelling a "later!" to his mom when she told him to come and eat breakfast. He got there just in time for his first class to start. His teacher gave him a look, but it wasn't something that he couldn't avoid. After his classes, he had Lacrosse, he got prepared for it and was on the field when his first test of the day came through. There was a boy on the team that wanted nothing more but to shit on Liam's day. He shoved Liam, mocked him, and got all the attention as he scored again and again. He didn't do anything to make that guy flip out on him like that, he didn't even know his name, but he guessed it didn't really matter because either way, he was still going to be a prick to him. Liam was shoved particularly hard in the middle of the practice game that it made a growl rumble up his chest. That prick. He wanted nothing more than to teach him a proper lesson, to make him regret even talking to Liam.
But he recalled Scott's words before his anger could latch onto him. He breathed in and out, willing himself to cool down and it worked. It actually worked. He felt pretty damn proud of himself that not even the guy could make him angry. He managed to do well and that seemed to piss off the guy, but did he care? Not a single bit. Liam had a cocky smile on his lips as he made his way back to the lockers room to change out of his sweaty clothes and into his school clothes. He was in the corridors, getting closer to his locker when he was suddenly shoved against it. When he looked up, it was the same boy from before. He clenched his jaw and tried to walk out of it, but he was shoved again and that was it for Liam. He could only remain in control for so long.
Liam could feel his claws come out, his canines getting longer and sharper. His heart beat was getting much faster, his hands were shaking from anger and his throat hurting from the growl that was bubbling up. He wanted to rip through him, wanted to sink his teeth into his neck and tear him apart. He took a step closer to the other, not giving a damn about where he currently was. He just wanted him to regret his actions, wanted him to die screaming in agony so everyone else could learn from him.

Scott had just returned to school after he was attacked by Klaus’ werewolves and if he was honest he was glad that things were finally starting to get back to normal. As much as he loved his mom and Bonnie for looking after him, deep down it was a relief that they no longer looked at him like he was going to break at any moment. For as long as he could remember he had been looking after himself so to have to rely on others like that really wasn’t something that he was used to but it had been necessary while he was healing. Now he was almost back at full strength and he knew that in a couple more days it would be like nothing had even happened. That was one of the good things about being a werewolf it seemed and his mom had finally given him the go ahead to go back to school so if he was honest Scott was eager to catch up on everything that he had missed. His friends had brought his homework to him during the time that he had been off school and they had brought him their notes from their classes but it just wasn’t the same. He had never been a particularly good student, especially not after being bitten by Peter, but ever since he had figured out what he wanted to become a vet he had been doing his best to get his grades up and do far it seemed to be working. With Isaac and Malia now in town he and his friends definitely had strength in numbers but there were still certain things that he felt the need to do himself. Teaching Liam about being a werewolf wasn’t something that he felt like he could leave to anyone else, he hadn’t planned on biting Liam but the boy had saved him by distracting the demon and giving him the chance to get the upper hand and Scott had known that he would die if he didn’t do something. He and Liam were friends, they had started getting to know each other after Scott was asked to show him around and even though there had been a hint of a rivalry over lacrosse at first that wasn’t anything that they hadn’t been able to work through. Now Scott was doing his best to help Liam adjust to being a werewolf and he felt bad that he hadn’t been able to check in on him during the last week after everything that had happened but as he made his way down the corridor heading for his locker so he could ditch the books that he no longer needed the rest of the day he saw something that made him pause. There seemed to be some trouble further down the corridor and as he approached he soon realised who the target was. Having been in Liam’s position before, Scott knew all too well how easy it was to get angry and want to fight back but he could hear Liam’s racing heartbeat and he knew that something bad was about to happen if he didn’t stop it. It was with that in mind that Scott crossed the corridor quickly and placed a hand on the other boy’s shoulder, forcing the junior to turn around and look at him. “Leave him alone,” he said, his voice steady but his tone making it clear that he wasn’t in the mood to be messed with. “From now on you stay away from him. Get out of here,” he added before turning his back on the kid and turning his attention to Liam. “Liam, your face,” he breathed, making sure that his voice was low enough so that no one else would hear. “Are you ok?”LIAM DUNBAR

Liam had been feeling under the weather lately, especially with him slowly learning how to control his 'animalistic' side with Scott's help. He was definitely scared, no need to deny or pretend that he was in control, but at the same time, he didn't want anyone to worry about him, Scott included. So more often than not, he found himself lying about whether he was okay or not. He often found himself pretending that everything was okay and not shattering apart all around him. It wasn't easy, it was far from it, actually. It showed right now where he was slowly but surely shifting in the middle of the corridors. It was way too easy for his thoughts to turn dark. Way too easy for him to lose control as his anger all but consumed him whole like a black hole.
He would have launched himself at the boy in front of him if it weren't for Scott's voice. It was easier for him to calm down now that he wasn't looking at the loser. Liam's chest was rising and falling quickly, his nostrils flaring, blood dripping from his hands due to him digging his nails into the palm of his hands. But even the pain that came from that wasn't enough to make him stop. To make him calm down.
Liam squeezed his eyes shut when Scott commented on his face. "I can't.." it was too difficult to control it this time. He tried to calm his breathing but even that wasn't helping. "I don't know, Scott-- I don't.." Liam breathed out, his eyes still squeezed shut. Thankfully, he didn't lose control, he was gaining control rather than losing it, but it was a damn close call. Liam opened his eyes, they were finally back to their usual color now. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay now." Liam whispered. "But honestly? I don't want to stay here another second. Were you heading home?"

Scott was still finding his feet when it came to being an Alpha and the truth was that he was pretty sure he would be doing so for quite some time. He didn’t have the same experience of being a werewolf or being around them that Derek had had before becoming an Alpha, most of the time Scott had absolutely no idea what he was doing and he often wasn’t afraid to admit that. All he could do was try and protect the people he cared about as best he could and that group seemed to be growing. He hadn’t planned on biting anyone but Liam had distracted the demon that he had been fighting and he knew that the boy probably would have died otherwise so it had been the only way. Thankfully Liam was a fighter and the bite had taken but now he was faced with the same difficulties that Scott faced every day. It wasn’t easy to stay in control but it was possible and Scott refused to let Liam give up on that. It had taken Scott a while to learn that he could be his own anchor after Allison died but he had managed to get there with help and he knew that Liam would too. He felt bad that he hadn’t been there for the boy after he had been hurt by Klaus’ werewolves, he had checked in with Liam when he could while he was recovering but it wasn’t the same as actually being there in moments like these and he knew that he wasn’t going to leave Liam to go through it alone again. Liam had become a friend to him first but now he was family and that was one thing that Scott could never walk away from. “You can. You’ve got this,” Scott assured Liam as he placed a hand on the boy’s shoulder. He knew how easy it was to doubt that you were capable of something but he had faith in Liam and this was the last place that he wanted to lose control so Scott knew that there really wasn’t much of a choice in the matter. “That’s good,” Scott nodded as Liam said that he was ok now. He didn’t know what had happened to cause the situation that he had walked in on but it seemed like Liam was having a bad day and his next words just confirmed that. “Yeah I was,” he nodded, heading over to his locker and putting away the books he didn’t need that evening before returning to his friend. “Let’s get out of here,” he said as he clapped Liam on the back and started moving towards the exit. It was only when they were outside that he glanced across at Liam and studied him carefully for a moment. “What happened back there?”LIAM DUNBAR

Scott's undying faith in him never failed to make him feel astonished. Was he really worthy of such strong faith? He probably should be locked somewhere far away and taught with fists so he wouldn't shift like this again, but Scott was teaching him in a way that inflicted no harm on him. He was slowly putting some faith in Liam that he can be the one to calm himself down, that he can be the one controlling his shift and anger. Not his Alpha, not even anyone else. It was all up to him, in the end, Scott was merely helping him realize it. Liam sent a small nod and waited for Scott to put his things away before they both headed out of that cursed school.
He turned his attention Scott momentarily before his eyes dragged back to look at the front, his arms rocking back and forth as he searched for words before he raised one hand to scratch the back of his neck, feeling both sheepish and guilty for making such a scene back there. He realized now it wasn't really worth it, but back then, it was worth everything to him and he wanted nothing more than to make that asshole pay for pushing his buttons for the umpteenth time.
"I just.." Liam began, his tongue coming out to lick his dry lips before gnawing at the surface of his bottom lip momentarily. "I just felt so angry at him. I really, really wanted to hurt him Scott. He kept pushing my buttons and I just.. I felt so dark. If it weren't for you, I probably would have..." Liam trailed off, not even wanting to think about it. It was too damn scary. He had no faith in himself, honestly. No faith in even being able to control his shift like Scott could. It was only anger that had the most control over him. Nothing else.
"How do you do this every single day, Scott? I can't even go through a day without screwing up. How do you look so.. calm?"

Scott could still remember his first few months after being bitten pretty vividly and he knew that he wouldn’t have managed to get through them without Derek there to guide him. Derek’s methods could be a little unorthodox at times but they had been effective and Scott didn’t like to think about what might have happened if he hadn’t been there to lend a helping hand. When it came to helping Liam he would be the first to admit that he didn’t really know what he was doing, explaining things had never been his strong point and more often than not things didn’t come out the way that he wanted them to at all, but he was doing his best and he hoped that that counted for something. He hadn’t planned on biting Liam but the boy had saved his life and had nearly lost his own in the process. Scott hadn’t even known if the bite would take but he’d had to try and thankfully it had. Now Liam was left to try and navigate his way through being a werewolf in high school and it wasn’t easy but Scott had complete faith in him and he hoped that in time then Liam would start believing in himself more too. As they made their way out of the school Scott shook his head as Liam’s words trailed off. “I don’t think you would have, sure you were angry but you’re a good person Liam,” Scott assured him. Stiles often told him that he was too trusting of people but when it came to Liam the truth was that Scott did trust him. Liam had a long way to go but as far as Scott was concerned he was already family and there was no way that he was ever going to turn his back on him. As Liam spoke again, Scott couldn’t help but laugh. “You forget that I’ve had years of practice but you’re forgetting one important thing. You didn’t screw up, you’re still learning,” he said gently as they walked. “It wasn’t easy for me in the beginning either and it still isn’t sometimes but once you become more confident in yourself then you’ll learn to control it better. It also helps if you have an anchor, have you thought about what you might be able to use yet?” he asked, not sure whether it was something that Liam had thought about yet or not. Scott had eventually learned to become his own anchor but that had taken a while and for a long time Allison had been his anchor. LIAM DUNBAR

Once again, Scott's trust and faith in him left him completely speechless. He wasn't sure his own parents had that much faith in him, honestly. Liam has such a talent of driving people up the hill because of him and he was certainly so damn glad that Scott wasn't doing that right now. Wasn't treating him like a ticking bomb that was about to explode. No, he was treating him like a person, like someone worth believing in and it made him feel a certain way he'd never really felt before. All that trust.. A part of him was scared of betraying it, of making Scott lose all sort of hope in him. "Yeah.." Liam still had trouble believing that he would have been able to stop himself.
Liam's attention drifted to Scott when he laughed a little at his statement. He pressed his lips into a thin line, unsure how to respond to that. "You have way too much faith in me, Scott." Liam finally said it aloud, his frown deepening a little. "Like.. a lot. I just.. don't know if I'm.. I dunno.. worthy of it." Liam said with a small sigh following.
Anchor? Liam wasn't sure why but a certain girl popped in his head the second Scott mentioned an anchor and god, he knows it won't happen any time soon. She hates him! Absolutely hates him and he hates her too! Well.. Kinda.. Ugh. Liam grumbled something incoherent under his breath before sighing. "I.. don't know yet, I mean-- ugh. I think she hates me. Like, really hates me. I mean, I don't blame her for it? Wait, I do. That hate is so overdue, Scott! We're in High school now." Liam rubbed the back of his neck in frustration before sighing dramatically. "Nevermind, sorry. It's not like I know she's my anchor but I think she might be? Sometimes thinking about her either makes me really angry or really calm. She's definitely not my anchor, right?" Hayden cannot be his anchor. Nope. No way.

Scott could still remember just how scary and intense everything was after he was bitten by Peter. He had been fortunate enough to have Stiles by his side through everything even when he had tried his best to keep his friend safe by pushing him away and he had also had Derek there to guide him. Without the two of them Scott knew that he would have been lost a long time ago but they’d both had faith in him and he knew that now it was his turn to pass that on to someone else who deserved it. Biting Liam had never been the plan, a fight in the woods with a supernatural creature that had been about to kill someone had quickly escalated and Liam had stepped in to save his life, something that had resulted in him getting hurt in the process. Scott had always known that if there was a choice in the matter then he wouldn’t want to put anyone else through what he had been through but it had been either that or let Liam die and as far as Scott was concerned that just hadn’t been an option. He and Liam had already become friends before that day in the woods and since then he had been doing everything he could in order to help the boy. Liam was family now and when it came to his family there was no way that Scott was ever going to turn his back on them. As Liam said that he wasn’t sure if he was worthy of his faith, Scott studied him carefully for a moment. “Why do you say that?” he asked, genuinely curious as to the reason behind the other boy’s words. “There is no set way to deal with all of this and you’re doing the best you can, that’s all anyone can ever ask of you.” Scott would be the first to admit that he’d made mistakes while he was still learning and he still made mistakes even now but he tried his best and so did everyone around him. Every person was different and they all had to learn how to deal with it in their own way. He was doing his best to help Liam as much as he could but at the end of the day it was going to come down to whether or not Liam believed in himself and he hoped that in time his friend would start to see that he could do this after all. Even with his enhanced senses he couldn’t quite hear what Liam mumbled under his breath but soon he started talking about a girl and a smile slowly started to form on his face. “It sounds like she could be,” he admitted. “If she hates you then you might want to start thinking about how to fix that. What happened between the two of you anyway?”LIAM DUNBAR

Liam paused when he heard the older's question, his lips pressing into a thin line before he shrugged his shoulders lightly. "Because I have a long history of anger issues, Scott. I heard that the shift is supposed to enhance my personality or something like that. So now I'm basically a ticking bomb right now." Liam had his doubts about himself and his control, he could never control it when he was human, let alone now. He couldn't help but feel like soon enough, someone will pay the price of pissing him off or being near him while he's pissed off. The thought haunts him, though. He can't even think about that without shuddering and feeling sick to his stomach.
"Yeah... maybe." Liam whispered, looking down at his hands, his bottom lip set out in a small pout before he looked up at Scott when he asked about Hayden. "Oh don't remind me." He scratched the back of his neck lightly. "Okay, so. Um. I was in a fight, right? She totally came out of nowhere, like totally. I... kind of broke her nose before school picture day. In return, she kind of punched me back and broke my nose." Even explaining that placed a grimace on his face. "She's been a thorn in my side ever since." He scrunched his nose and looked down.
"So, yeah... That's what happened. Totally no biggie, right?"

Getting to grips with all of the changes that came with being a werewolf wasn’t easy for anyone but Scott knew that it was even more difficult for Liam considering that he had been struggling with his anger even before he was bitten. He knew that the others probably thought that he was crazy for taking Liam under his wing and trying to teach him how to control himself but Scott knew that he wasn’t going to give up on the younger boy, he couldn’t. He was the reason why life was even more difficult for Liam now than it had been before and that wasn’t something that Scott could forget about. Liam had stepped in to distract the creature he had been fighting with and he had almost ended up getting killed in the process. He had known that he couldn’t let the boy die so he had done the only thing that he could do – he had bitten him and now he refused to let Liam go through this alone. Scott knew that he would have been lost without Derek there to guide him and Stiles’ unwavering friendship and even though Scott knew that he rarely said the right thing he was still doing his best and he knew that that had to count for something. “You’re right, becoming a werewolf does heighten certain emotions and personality traits but it is possible to learn to control it,” Scott assured him. “I did and you can too.” It wasn’t going to be easy but he was confident that Liam could get his anger under control if he wanted to and Scott knew that he was going to be right there to make sure that the boy didn’t give up when things got difficult. Derek hadn’t given up on him and Scott refused to give up on Liam. There were bound to be a few incidents along the way, that was to be expected after all, but it was just a matter of being patient. As Liam explained why the girl he was talking about hated him so much, Scott’s eyes widened in surprise and a laugh escaped his lips. “No biggie?” he chuckled. “It’s no wonder she hates you.” If he was honest he couldn’t really blame her but she had apparently managed to get under Liam’s skin in another way too. “It sounds like she has some fight in her at least,” he added with a grin. “You should try and make things right with her, being around her might help.”LIAM DUNBAR

Liam didn't have all the confidence in the world but if Scott believed him then maybe, maybe things will look up to him one day and he will be able to have Scott's control and his ability to stay human no matter how tempting it was to get angry. "Maybe.." Liam whispered, still having his doubts about being able to grasp all that control on his own. Liam ran his fingers through his hair to slick it away from his face before he let out a small sigh.
"Hey." Liam whined a little bit. "You're supposed to be on my side." He added a short moment after. "It's long overdue, though! Why can't she just.. get over it." The younger grumbled, his hand drifted up to his nose as if he could still feel the soreness and the pain of a broken nose. "Oh yeah, she's definitely got some fight in her."
Liam's attention drifted back to Scott when he heard his suggestion. "Easier said than done, trust me. I tried! Plus, I hate her. Like, from the depth of my heart." Yeah, Liam, you're not fooling anyone, especially with how his heart beat spiked up just as he talked about her.

It would be easy to write Liam off as a lost cause given how much he had struggled with his anger even before he became a werewolf but it just wasn’t in Scott to do that. He hadn’t intended on biting the boy but he had known that it was either that or Liam would have died and the latter just wasn’t an option. Liam had gone from being a friend to him to being a little brother quite quickly and if there was one thing that Scott didn’t do then it was give up on his family. He knew that Liam was struggling right now and that he would probably continue to do so for some time to come but that didn’t mean that it had to be that way forever. He refused to believe that anyone was incapable of learning control and most of the time Liam did really well, it was only when people pushed him that he snapped and that was something that Scott knew that he could definitely worth with. It was clear that Liam still had his doubts but Scott had complete faith in the boy and that wasn’t going to change. As Liam said that he was supposed to be on his side, Scott couldn’t help but laugh. “Liam, I’m always going to be on your side but you did break her nose,” he pointed out. “You’re right, it probably is about time that she gets over it,” he added thoughtfully. As Liam continued to protest that he hated the girl, it was obvious to Scott that it was just talk and a knowing smile worked its way across his face as he looked over at the boy. “Then why did your heartbeat just spike?” he asked, not fooled for a moment. “It sounds to me like she might just be the anchor you need. Have you tried actually apologising to her lately?”LIAM DUNBAR

Liam winced at that, so even Scott agreed that he screwed up big time? Well then. He was eternally screwed. Liam resisted the urge to pout a little bit, not looking very pleased with himself about the matter. He knew he had messed up with Hayden and he had a few other things that will probably ruin their relationship for good, but he wanted to fix things, but he couldn't find the courage in himself to fix any of it, so he always put it off for tomorrow or next week or the month after.
It was clear he couldn't fool the other, especially not with how his heart beat suddenly spiked at the mention of her. "Okay, so, maybe I do have a crush on her but it's tiny. Like, reeeeally tiny." Liam pinched a small space between his thumb and index to show just how tiny it was. "Also, using your hearing is practically cheating. You're not supposed to hear that." Liam grumbled, his nose wrinkling in distaste. An anchor? Shit. It might just explain a lot of things. He pursed his lips and looked down at his hands. "I tried." He whispered, though his voice was too faint. "She stuck a gum on my chair the day we saw each other again. A gum! Do you have any idea how hard it was to get out? My pants are practically ruined." Liam grumbled before he let out a small sigh. "But I do plan on apologizing. I just, uh, need to find the right time." In a way, they were both competitive people and maybe a little prideful? So with both their prides scarred, they were pretty upset at each other and also very stubborn. "Anyway, uh, I saw you with this girl.." Liam began, turning his attention over to Scott. "She looked really pretty but I could have sworn your heart was beating like crazy the whole time you two were talking. If you wanna tease me 'bout it, don't do it yourself, Scott." Liam teased with a little shit-eating grin locked on his lips. "Do you like her?"

Scott knew how easy it was to mess up friendships and he would be the first to admit that he had done so himself on more than a few occasions but each time he did something stupid his friends forgave him and he hoped that in time Hayden would do the same for Liam as well. In the heat of the moment he had messed up and Liam could be a bit of a hot head at times as Scott had found out but at the end of the day he was a good kid and didn’t have a bad bone in his body so with any luck Hayden would see that soon enough as well. It was clear to Scott just how much Liam cared about the girl and it sounded like he had found his anchor so he honestly hoped that the two of them would figure things out. He could help Liam to an extent but having an anchor was something that had proved invaluable to him and given that Liam was still struggling right now Scott didn’t doubt that it would do him good to have one he could count on too. “Sure it is,” Scott said, a smile working its way across his face as he looked over at Liam. He didn’t believe that one bit but if it was something that Liam needed to believe for now then Scott wasn’t going to argue. As Liam spoke again, Scott couldn’t help but laugh. “You call it cheating, I call it using my initiative,” he teased. It had been obvious how Liam felt about Hayden from the way his heartbeat had spiked and he was pretty sure that Liam knew that too. “She’s definitely still mad at you,” Scott nodded as Liam told him what Hayden had done. “Liam, you’ve had years to find the right time to apologise to her. Stop stalling and get on with it.” All of this had happened back in sixth grade and Liam still hadn’t apologised so Scott knew that it was about time the boy finally ripped off the band aid and did what needed to be done. For a moment as Liam changed the subject Scott thought about not letting him get away with it but whatever was going on with Hayden was something that Liam needed to figure out on his own so this time he knew that he would let him. “It would have been Bonnie you saw me with and I’m not hiding how I feel about her, we just don’t broadcast it as much as others do around here. She’s my girlfriend so yeah, I like her a lot,” he explained. It had taken the two of them a long time to get together but now they had Scott knew that he didn’t want to go back to the way things used to be between them. They were happy together but they didn’t buy into the public displays of affection like some other couples did. They preferred to keep their private lives private and he knew that there was nothing wrong with that. LIAM DUNBAR

Liam chuckled and gave Scott a heatless glare at his teasing words. "Wow, okay." He rolled his eyes but there was no real malice in any of his actions or words, he was just joking around as a response to Scott's teasing. He knew, he knew that she was still really pissed at him for what he had done to her back then but he was just not willing to admit it to himself because in his head, it was better for him to avoid admitting the truth or that he was at fault and only then would he be fully innocent. Though there was a voice in his head, nagging at him, telling him that he was being an idiot and he should learn to grow the hell up instead of messing around. "She really is." Liam admitted with a small sigh following, feeling like a fool deep down, still.
Liam pressed his lips into a thin line, keeping quiet for the most part. He wanted to apologize but a part of him continuously held him back and he realized that it was his pride that was the culprit all along and it wasn't his heart. His heart wanted nothing more other than apologize for Hayden and open a new chapter for the two of them so he wouldn't wind up losing her for good. He should be all grown up now, so why was he being so childish deep down. "Okay. I will. I will. I just... need to know how I'm going to approach her. I don't wanna come off too strong or anything like that." Liam said with a small nod of his head because despite it all, he still cared about her comfort. "Good thing I can heal faster now if it goes sideways." Liam joked with a small chuckle following as he scratched the back of his head.
"Oh. That's awesome, Scott." Liam was happy that Scott had a special someone in his life and it made him feel happier to know that it was someone who loved him back because he definitely got a hear of her rapidly beating heart and he could sense their heart eyes from a mile away and it really made him feel happy for Scott, hoping his happiness would last for a long, long time ahead because he deserved it more than anyone. Always there to help people, always present as a shoulder to lean on if things get tough. He was glad that he was friends with Scott. "I'd love to meet her one day, though." Liam said with a small nod of his head following. "Does she know about you...?" About him being a werewolf, that is.
