It had only been a day since Scott had ended up turning up on Bonnie’s doorstep broken and bleeding but he was back home and that at least was a relief. Ever since he was attacked Bonnie had refused to leave his side even when he had urged her to get some sleep or check on her friends and in a way he felt bad that even though he was no longer imposing at her house he was still a burden. His wounds had started to heal but it was slow going and right now even the smallest of movements hurt but he was doing his best to act like everything was fine. His mom had shown up at Bonnie’s to pick him up after they had managed to get hold of her and he had seen how scared she was. The look she had given him was one that he had seen mirrored on Bonnie’s own face when he had woken up after she had used her magic to speed up the healing process. She had pushed on passed her limits while she tried to help him and he knew that in a few days he would be completely healed but for now he had to take it easy and his mom and Bonnie seemed to be ganging up against him in a way and making sure that he had as little to do and as little to stress him out as possible. He had at least been able to call Stiles that day and assure his friend that he was going to be alright using the house phone since his cell had ended up getting smashed during the fight but he had still been able to hear the concern in his friend’s voice. Bonnie had called him the day before and had told him about the attack but Stiles had stayed away to let him rest. The moment he had told Stiles that he was back at home, however, the guy had said that he would be right over and Scott knew that nothing he could say would keep him away. Scott knew that he should call the rest of his friends and let them know that he was going to be ok as well but knowing Stiles the guy was already on his way over so Scott decided against it for the moment. He didn’t doubt that Stiles would have told them the day before and while Stiles would probably be able to talk his way into the house to see him Scott knew that his mom and Bonnie wouldn’t be particularly happy if the rest of his friends showed up as well when they had been working so hard to make sure that he took it easy. Instead he let his head rest against the back of the sofa as his eyes drifted closed and the sounds from the television washed over him. Getting from his room upstairs down to the living room was as far as he had been allowed to go that day and if he was honest even that had been a struggle so he was perfectly fine with it. He knew that his mom and Bonnie would have preferred it if he had stayed in his room all day and the thought had been tempting but he knew that the sooner he was back on his feet the better so he’d at least had to try and being closer to the two of them helped. For a while they had both sat on the sofa with him but they had disappeared to make something to eat after his mom had changed the dressings on each of his wounds and now Scott was left alone. He knew that he looked a right state with all of the wounds that riddled his face and body, he hadn’t even attempted to put a t-shirt on before he had headed downstairs because he had known that he would only struggle to take it off again and while he could feel his body healing it was taking its time. He knew that he just had to try and take advice from his mom and Bonnie while he could and that meant taking it easy for at least a few days until he was feeling more like himself again and that was what he was trying to do. By now there should’ve been a hole worn straight through to China, or whatever the hell was on the other side of the globe from the hell hole that was Mystic Falls. Every time, every single time, it seemed like things were going right, everything went bad again. Stiles had spent half the night pacing back and forth in his bedroom, his fingers rubbing hard at burning eyes, his blood thumping and hissing in his ears with every beat. Every other circuit he’d taken he’d stepped aside, snatching his phone up from his bed to check it for some sort of update from Bonnie or Melissa, or Scott himself, although he’d explained that his phone had been smashed by Klaus’ werewolf goons. Nobody had come right out and said that they were definitely the Original hybrid’s henchmen but the wolves had definitely known about Klaus’ little plan when they’d managed to kick the crap out of Scott. His cuticles bloody from the nip of his teeth finally Stiles had dropped onto his bed and messaged Lydia about what had happened. He’d promised not to say a word to the rest yet, not wanting all of them to descend on Scott’s place before he was ready to handle it all, but he’d never to talk and Lydia would understand. She’d been through the trouble with the Alpha pack, had seen Scott almost bleed out in a gas station and lately the two of them had been closer than probably ever before. Stiles had felt guilty that he’d kept her up late but in the end it had been Lydia’s face that had talked him into bed at last. When he’d finally punched his pillow into submission and gotten some sleep it had been restless, his hand thrusting out from under the covers to find his phone again first thing the next morning. The dreams of waking to find a message to say Klaus had gotten his hands on Scott had left his nerves jangling under his skin. There’d been nothing then, no relief until Scott’s message had come later that day to say he was back home.
He’d probably been pushing Roscoe’s engine beyond its limits the whole way there but a little steam was the least of his worries. Stiles brought the jeep to a screeching stop in front of Scott’s house. Wincing, he turned off the engine, glancing at the house as though the sound would’ve somehow caused a commotion there. There was no sign of anything being wrong but Melissa was there at the door before he even got to it, offering him the sort of strained smile that had him hugging her before he stepped inside. There was a quiet warning about getting Scott wound up, one that, hand on his heart, he’d sworn to keep. Sucking in a breath, Stiles stepped into the living room. For a moment there was that quick bite of worry, the dressings covering wounds he knew would only be half healed startling. ”Wakey wakey sleeping beauty,” he murmured, a thin trace of humour that he had to force in his voice. Narrowing brown eyes Stiles stepped in, dropping carefully onto the arm of the couch so that he didn’t jostle his friend. ”Or should that be beast. You’re not looking your greatest right now man.” The voice in his head told him that without Bonnie it would’ve been much worse. The girl Scott had fallen for, and yeah, he’d come around to that idea now, thank you very much Derek Hale, had undoubtedly helped to save his life this time. ”How are you doing?” he asked hoarsely, worry closing his throat up as he studied his friend’s face. ”I’m not gonna lie, you scared the crap out of me last night. I was gonna come over now and read you the whole riot act about walking the streets alone but … I dunno if you could take it right now.” Fragile wasn’t the word for it, judging by what Scott looked like now, the state of his must have been terrifying when he’d been found yesterday.

Scott and his friends had been through so much over the last few years but for the first time in a while things seemed to have been finally going their way for a while. Klaus was still trying to create hybrids but from what Stefan had told them the guy was still failing miserably so for a while at least things had gone on as normal. It would have been easy to become consumed by fear of what Klaus was up to but at the end of the day life went on for all of them and Scott knew better than most just how easily it could be taken away so he knew that he wasn’t going to waste a moment more worrying about what might happen than he needed to. Now that he and his friends were settled in Mystic Falls things were finally different because now they weren’t facing every threat that came their way alone. They had Stefan, Elena, Bonnie, Ben and all of the others that they could count on to help them face whatever life threw their way next and even though lives had been lost along the way those lives had also been given back by Henrik and Lukas. Scott knew better than to think that that could happen each and every time that something happened to one of them but just the knowledge that they weren’t on their own any longer was a comfort to Scott and it was something that he knew that he wanted to hold on to. None of them knew what was going to happen when Klaus managed to find a way to create hybrids or who he might take and force to join his army but Scott knew that whatever happened next he and his friends would face it together and that was just as it should be. He had never thought that he would be targeted the way that he had been the day before but he was just grateful that Bonnie lived nearby. Without her he knew that he would have succumbed to his injuries and even though he was pretty sure that the werewolves had only been planning on hurting him rather than killing him they had been brutal in their attacks and they had done more damage than they had probably even realised. Scott’s body was healing but it was slow going and even with his enhanced healing he knew that it would be at least a few days before he looked and felt like himself again. He had felt bad about burdening Bonnie with all of this and after his mom had picked him up he had tried to convince Bonnie that she could go and do whatever else she needed to do but she had refused to leave him and if he was honest he was glad about that. He hadn’t planned on falling for her but that was exactly what had happened and he was able to take comfort from the fact that she was close by. She didn’t seem to want to go anywhere so he knew better than to push her away. After letting Stiles know that he was home, Scott’s eyes had drifted closed and before he had realised it he had fallen asleep, only waking when the sound of a familiar voice reached him. “I bet I still look better than you do,” he countered as his eyes opened and he looked over at Stiles. “You look like you’ve been up half the night.” Scott knew that he shouldn’t really be surprised, after all he knew that Bonnie had called Stiles the day before, but he still couldn’t help but feel bad about all of the worry that he’d caused. “Everything hurts but I’ll be fine in a few days,” he assured his friend. “I’m under strict orders to take it easy until then.” Even moving from his bedroom down to the living room had resulted in a strict telling off and a concerned look from his mom and he had a feeling that wasn’t going to change any time soon. “Maybe save it for another day,” he agreed. “I got called into work at the last minute, I can’t expect you guys to drop everything and make sure that I get home safe,” he added. Normally Scott was more than capable of looking out for himself and he knew that he would have been this time too if it hadn’t been for the fact that he had been so outnumbered. “How about you, how are you doing?”STILES STILINSKI

An insane amount of trouble had managed to find them since the night he’d dragged Scott out into the woods. Near death, actual death when it came to some of their friends, resurrection, homicidal alphas, nogitsunes, demons and everything in between. It was enough to shake most people’s lives apart but somehow he and Scott had come through it all, their friendship almost as bright and shiny as it had been before. Stiles wouldn’t call it brighter, because this was their pattern, this faint drift apart as life had gotten crazy, followed by times when they were just as brotherly as they always had been. There’d been a lull of late, one of the down swings before they got up on the other side of the wave. He’d been ready to blame it on more trouble finding them, had been terrified enough of the idea that he’d broken into Derek’s apartment in the middle of the night to try and find out what evil flavor that trouble was. Instead of being told the sort of thing that turned his blood cold Derek had dangled the idea of Scott falling in love again under his nose. That hadn’t exactly been easy to come to terms with, not because he didn’t like Bonnie, because honestly, he did, but having not noticed it, that’d been grating. Getting the call about what had happened yesterday Stiles had been freaking glad that Scott had fallen head over heels for the Bennett witch, without her his friend might’ve died. Bonnie’s witchyness had apparently brought Scott back from near death. Had he been there when Niklaus Mikaelson’s little lackeys had attacked he couldn’t have done that. The thought had left Stiles blood running cold for half the night. He could’ve done all the first aid he liked but Scott had been hurt .. bad.
Fear had run through his head from the moment he’d heard. Sleep didn’t always come easily anyway but last night it had been like trying to hold sand in his fist, slippery as hell, any chance of it draining away frustratingly. In the end he’d managed to go down for a few hours under Lydia’s orders but it hadn’t been restful. First thing this morning his hand was back on his phone, his feet tangling as he’d finally gotten the OK to head over to Scott’s place. The look on Melissa’s face hadn’t done much to unknot his gut, the state of Scott when he finally got to see his friend only tightening it all back up to the point where it felt like he was gonna need Alexander the Great to cut through it. Stiles tilted his head, his mouth twisting wryly as he met Scott’s eyes. ”Only in your dreams,” he drawled. ”That’s what happens when your best friend goes and gets himself hurt.” And when you had the weight of the world constantly on your mind. They’d all had that at some point lately. ”Given the look on your mom’s face I wouldn’t try and push that. You gave us all a scare.” Tilting his head back and forth, mustering up a little humour not he knew Scott was half OK, Stiles eventually nodded. ”You get a three day reprieve on that, then trust me man, absolute riot act. At least promise me from now on you get one of us to willingly drop everything and go with you.” They’d all do it, for their alpha, for their friend, for their brother. Huffing out a sigh, Stiles slumped back on the arm of the couch. He dragged a hand over his face, managed a mirthless chuckle. ”Other than staying up half the night, being stuck between the girl I left behind and the one something’s happening with now, and sticking my nose into Derek’s love life now? Not much.” That was enough though, definitely more than enough.

Scott had known that his friends would worry which was why he had hoped that none of them would find out until he was back on his feet but he couldn’t blame Bonnie for calling Stiles and telling him what had happened. The guy had been a brother to him for as long as he could remember and they had stuck together through everything that life had thrown their way. Even before the others came into their lives they had been looking out for each other and if he was honest he was actually surprised that the guy had managed to stay away this long. Scott could still remember the worry eating him up inside when Stiles was going through all of the issues he’d faced with the nogitsune and he hadn’t known what to do when Stiles had ended up in Eichen House. He had never felt as helpless as he had during that time and he had a feeling that that was probably how Stiles was feeling right now. Scott knew that his mom and Bonnie wanted what was best for him, they wanted him to rest and recover without any distractions but if he was honest it was driving him crazy not being able to talk to anyone without his phone. That was why he had called Stiles the moment he had been able to and even though he had tried to assure his friend that he was going to be fine Stiles had still insisted on paying him a visit and Scott had known that he couldn’t turn it down because he would have wanted to do exactly the same if the roles were reversed. “You wish,” Scott said, a smile working its way across his face as he looked over at his friend. “Sorry I worried you, I’m going to be fine,” he added. He knew that it was all thanks to Bonnie, he was in a bad state when he’d reached her doorstep and he knew that he wouldn’t have made it through any of this without her magic healing him. He still felt bad that he had scared her too and his mom as well and he knew that he was going to have to find a way to make it up to all of them somehow when he was back to full strength. He had never liked having to rely on others to do things for him and even though he knew that his mom and Bonnie were happy looking after him so that he didn’t have to move too much while his body healed it was still difficult to sit still for so long and he already couldn’t wait to be back on his feet so they wouldn’t have to worry any longer. He also wanted to get back on his feet so that he could take Bonnie on an actual date but that was another story. “I won’t. I feel bad enough about worrying you all as it is,” he admitted. He was used to being the one who tried to stay strong for everyone else, he wasn’t used to being vulnerable like this and he hated it. “Fine, I promise,” Scott said, rolling his eyes as he agreed to getting one of his friends to drop what they were doing in order to meet him. “There were just too many of them this time.” Again it wasn’t something that he was happy about nor was it something that he liked doing but there was safety in numbers and he knew that he had to be careful considering there was no telling when Klaus’ wolves might try and make a move again. “You know Derek won’t thank you for that,” he chuckled, wincing slightly at the movement before quickly recovering. “So something is finally happening between you and Lydia, huh?” he added as he looked over at his friend, knowing that at some point he was going to have to tell Stiles that something had happened between him and Bonnie too. In the last couple of years this had happened way too often. He’d seen Scott laid low by asthma attacks before, he’d fumbled in his friend’s backpack for his inhaler more times than he’d been able to count, but even since he’d gotten Scott bitten out in the woods it had been worse. Blood … everywhere, worse things when hunters and Alphas had come their way. Stiles had lost count of the number of times he’d been on the brink of passing the hell out because something foul had been right in front of his face. He’d sucked it up though, staying on his feet more often than not. Given the state of Scott now it was something he might not’ve managed to do last night. The fact that there was still healing to do spoke of how bad it had been, had much Bonnie had managed to deal with on her own. Maybe there’d been a little jealousy in the pit of his stomach at first when Derek had lorded it over him that he’d known that Bonnie and Scott had been spending time together but now he wanted to kiss Bonnie for what she’d done for his best friend. It was the two of them against the world, perhaps not as much now as it had once been, Stiles thought, but when the crap hit the fan, and in this town it was just inevitable, he was going to be standing there at Scott’s right shoulder, baseball bat in hand. There’d been the temptation to grab it last night and head out onto the streets but Lydia’s cooled voice had prevailed, managing to talk him down in the way she always did.
His Girl Friday, his logic, one of his closest friends despite the fact that for the better part of a decade she’d been the little red headed girl atop the pedestal and he’d been the annoying gnat buzzing around her. Thank God that Lydia had managed to look past all of that eventually. Squelching his grin a little, Stiles raised his hand and rubbed it over his jaw. ”I know,” he corrected. Sucking in a breath, Stiles shifted uneasily on his feet. ”Wasn’t your fault.” There was no way Scott could’ve predicted there’d be wolves out there looking to ingratiate themselves to the Mikaelsons. The one blessing to the whole thing the fact that they hadn’t succeeded. Stiles’ brows rose as he pretended to glance around a moment. ”You know I’m gonna have to kiss Bonnie for that right?” If Scott had looked a little better he would’ve reached out and clapped his buddy on the arm but in this state who knew what that would do. ”Look, we’ve all been there and got the t-shirt. You’re a part of the ‘scaring the crap out of everybody else’ group now.” And not for the first time. Remembering what Scott had looked like with an oni’s katana through him Stiles bit into his lower lip. He spat it out as Scott begrudgingly agreed not to go it alone. Holding up a finger in warning, he narrowed his eyes. ”You made me promise exactly the same, remember?” And he hadn’t gone lone wolf since … much. Too many or not, Scott was gonna have to watch his back now and that was easier if you had others right there. ”He asked me to,” Stiles said honestly as he flopped back. ”Not in so many words but the gist of it was find out about the red head.” Damn, that meant two of them with the same taste. The thought had a light bulb going off in his head before Scott brought up Lydia. Stiles glanced sideways, guilelessness immediately filling his expression. ”Me and Lydia?” he asked, mostly playing dumb.

Scott wasn’t good at sitting still for so long. He knew that he needed to in order to heal but he had always been active even when he was younger despite the fact that he’d suffered from asthma. Now being told that he needed to rest was torture but he knew that he needed to do it otherwise he would incur the wrath of not just his mom but Bonnie as well. He knew that they had both been scared by what had happened to him, the truth was that it had scared him as well, but Bonnie had saved him and he knew that he needed to learn to be patient and take the time that he needed. He had a nasty habit of throwing himself into things headfirst, a habit that always ended up with him getting into trouble, and the last thing he needed was to make his injuries any worse. Having his mom and Bonnie around helped but the truth was that he had spent most of his time sleeping. Now he was back home and he had finally been able to call Stiles and give him the go ahead to come over and Scott knew that the news would be sure to spread to the rest of his friends before long as well. They had all been through so much together and after losing Allison and Riley albeit temporarily none of them wanted to go through that again. This was different, it wasn’t a fight against an enemy that they had been trying to defeat for months and it wasn’t a ritual that was being carried out by a vampire, it had simply been an attack by a group of werewolves who hadn’t liked it when he had refused to agree to become one of Klaus’ hybrids. Now that he was out of the woods he knew that his own healing would take care of the rest but it was going to take time and until he was back on his feet properly he knew that any visits his friends were able to make would probably end up doing him the world of good. He needed to get a new phone given that his had broken in the fight so until he got a new one he was going to be out of the loop for a while otherwise. It didn’t take Stiles long to get there, in fact he wouldn’t have been surprised if his best friend had sped the whole way over, but if Scott was honest he had never been more pleased to see him. It had been just the two of them against the world before they’d befriended the others and it felt right that Stiles was the first person he would get to see aside from his mom and Bonnie. “If you say so,” Scott chuckled before stopping as he winced at the movement. There was a good reason why his mom and Bonnie didn’t want him moving too much at the moment but he would be lying if he said that he wasn’t looking forward to the day when his body finished healing and he was back to normal. “I’m sure she’ll be happy with a simple thank you,” Scott said when Stiles said that he was going to kiss Bonnie for what she had done, unaware that his cheeks flushed red slightly at the notion. The truth was that he didn’t like the thought of anyone else kissing her now that they were finally together even if it would be completely platonic, not that Stiles was aware of that yet of course. “It’s only right that I’m a part of that group,” he joked. He was so used to worrying about everyone else and even though he hadn’t meant to scare any of the people he cared about he knew that it was just their way of showing that they cared. “I remember, I’m just not used to needing a body guard,” he admitted. If that was what it took to put the minds of the others at ease he knew that he would do it though, the last thing he wanted was to worry them any more than he already had. “I’m sure that’s not what he meant. Don’t go prying into his business too much,” Scott said even though he knew that his words would fall on deaf ears anyway. Derek had always been a private person and Scott knew that he wouldn’t like Stiles looking into Alix one bit but something told him that it was going to happen anyway. “No, you and the tooth fairy. Of course I mean Lydia, spill.”STILES STILINSKI

It wasn’t just being a sheriff’s kid that left Stiles hating to be in the dark. Sitting in hospital corridors, listening to his dad whispering to the doctors about his mom, had practically made his ears and palms itch. They’d treated him like a kid most of the time, not wanting to break his heart by telling him his mom wasn’t going to live to his next birthday. Like he hadn’t known how serious things were for her as the mom he’d known had disappeared, leaving a woman who hated him behind. It hadn’t been his mom in the end but if he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes Stiles never would’ve known. They’d wrapped him up in cotton wool, all for his own good. After that he might’ve driven his dad crazy with the questions, and probably almost everybody else he’d ever crossed paths with too, but he’d gotten to know the truth hadn’t he? It had twisted him up in knots, gotten him in over his head and caused harm to the people he loved. Those things he could regret but Stiles knew it would’ve been way worse if he’d just buried his head in the sand and tried to ignore everything that had started to happen around them. Scott might not’ve agreed, considering the fact that most of the time he’d been the person taking the brunt of it all. It wasn’t just his life on the line, it was his friends’, his brother’s, his dad’s and everybody else’s in the town. Still, Stiles thought, frowning as each movement had his friend wincing, his nosiness hadn’t been enough to predict that people were going to try and do this for Klaus. He knew digging deeper into everything here wasn’t the answer. How was he ever gonna stop himself when his brain was running at sixty miles an hour though?
Slow yourself down Don Quixote, Stiles warned himself. Taking on the role of Sherlock Holmes for the entire freaking town was the worst sort of idea. He curled his fingers, scratching at his chin until he had Scott chuckling and then he was hissing at his friend. ”Hey, less laughing,” he chided, waving a hand at him. ”I won’t even get happy with a simple thank you if you go busting something open because I had you laughing.” For that Bonnie would probably turn him into a toad or something. Judging by how red Scott’s cheeks had gone, Stiles had a feeling his buddy wouldn’t like the idea of him kissing his … whatever Bonnie had become … either. If Bonnie had been around right after Scott had gone kissing Lydia maybe he’d have done it but that sort of trouble was long gone between the two of them. Stiles bit at his low lip, setting his leg to bobbing as he glanced sideways at his friend. ”It’s probably not right that you’re the new King of it,” he said dryly. That had been his spot for a while, not that he wasn’t glad to hand it over to somebody else. It would’ve just been nice if it had been someone like Peter taking his place. Maybe. Stiles drew a breath in through his nose, crossing his arms over his chest. His shoulders slumped slightly as he let the breath out. ”You’re gonna get used to it, right?” There was no real question to his voice though. There hadn’t been any real question about what Derek had meant when he’d given him Alix’s full name either. ”It’s not what he said,” Stiles admitted, ”but why give me her name otherwise when he was saying no right out loud?” The more he’d argued that day, the more Derek seemed to doubt it all. Maybe there’d been a little pettiness about it since Derek had been so smug. Even Derek hadn’t known quite how things were sliding sideways with him and Lydia though. Stiles ducked his head, his smile curving faintly before he looked back up at Scott. ”I’ve been helping her. You know, playing Professor Higgins to her screaming whoever it was Audrey Hepburn played.” It had been more than that though, especially on the night Lydia had turned up at his door, exhausted and in tears, the night he’d kissed her again.

Scott was used to being the one who always did his best to look out for his friends, he wasn’t so used to it being the other way around. He knew that he had made mistakes along the way like trying to go up against the Alpha pack on his own so that he could stop any of his friends getting hurt but that had backfired completely and had almost resulted in Derek dying so he knew better than to try something like that on his own again but when it came to walking home from work on his own, that at least was supposed to be something that he didn’t need to worry about. He hadn’t expected to be jumped by a group of werewolves on his way home or for them to attack him and leave him for dead but that was exactly what had happened and Scott knew that Stiles was right, he needed to be a lot more careful from now on. Had things been different then he would have argued that he would be fine on his own but Scott knew that he would have died had it not been for Bonnie and as it was it was going to take time for his body to heal completely so he knew that he needed to make sure that nothing like that happened again. He didn’t like the idea of putting his friends out but Stiles didn’t seem to think that it would be a problem and Scott trusted him so he knew that he had to believe that it would be fine. If he was honest he would do pretty much anything to avoid the worried looks that he saw on the faces of his mom and Bonnie every time he saw them at the moment and Stiles had given him a similar look when he had walked in. None of them were used to seeing this way and Scott wasn’t used to it either. He had never liked feeling helpless but being careful until the wolves that attacked him were found and they could be sure that they weren’t going to hurt anyone else was something that he knew needed to happen. “Good point,” Scott admitted, doing his best to stay as still as he could so that he could avoid anymore discomfort. If he was honest he didn’t really like the idea of Stiles kissing Bonnie anyway even if it would be in a completely platonic way. Scott had never told anyone about his history with Bonnie, not even his best friend, although he wouldn’t be surprised if those around him had guessed that there was more to it than the two of them just meeting when he and his friends moved to Mystic Falls. He knew that he could have told Stiles about what had happened the summer that he and Bonnie were fourteen but keeping it to himself had kept those memories alive rather than saying the words out loud and admitting that he was probably never going to see Bonnie again. It had been easier keeping it to himself and since they reached Mystic Falls and he and Bonnie were reunited he hadn’t said anything then either. He knew that he would probably deserve it for kissing Lydia not long after he became a werewolf but that was all water under the bridge now so he knew that he didn’t need to worry about it. “Trust me, I don’t want to be,” Scott assured him. He didn’t like making people worry about him so he would be more than happy to pass that title on to someone else as soon as he could. Even as Stiles spoke again Scott could hear that it wasn’t really a question but he nodded anyway. “I’m going to try,” he promised, knowing that his mom, Bonnie and his friends would be in agreement about it as well. “You know Derek doesn’t like anyone sticking their nose into his business. He never has,” Scott warned even though something told him that Stiles wasn’t going to take any notice of it anyway. He never could let things go when he got an idea in his head but Scott still hoped that this time his best friend would drop it for once. As Stiles spoke again, Scott shook his head. “You realise I have no idea what that means, right?” he asked as he looked over at his friend. “What happened?” he repeated. STILES STILINSKI

Even with the help of the Adderall obsession had always seemed to be his brain’s way of dealing with things. Stiles knew that it was never ideal, in fact more often than not his fixation on things tended to come back and bite him on the ass. It had left him pining over Lydia for years before she’d realized he’d even existed, it had gotten Scott bitten in the first place and since they’d made the jump to Mystic Falls it probably come close to killing him a good half dozen times. He’d learned from it though. It had taken a while and a couple of girls saving his behind but eventually he’d gotten the message to let people in on all of that stuff. It was a seriously bad time for an I told you so with Scott sitting there, still recovering from what the wolves had done to him, but he honestly wished Scott would’ve listened to his own advice. Hearing what had happened to his friend had almost sent him into a full on panic attack last night. Over the last couple of years they’d all come far too close to losing one another. With Allison it hadn’t just been close, they had lost her and it was only through a hellish trial that they’d gotten her back. Stiles knew that he couldn’t go through that again, especially not knowing that maybe there was something he could’ve done to help. If he’d been there and not holed up in his room going through his notes on what was happening here in town time and time again like something else was gonna float up out of them and smack him upside the head. Obsession didn’t feel like it was gonna get him killed now, but someone else instead.
Stiles’ smile was a little shaky at the edges but he managed to keep it up as he pointed a warning finger at Scott for a moment. For Scott to be this bad the day after the attack had to have been bad, worse than almost anything they’d been through before. ”My points are always good,” he quipped. Leaning forward slightly, Stiles propped his elbows on his thighs, trying to stop his leg for shaking itself free of his body. A wry smile pulled at his lips. ”None of us ever wanna be,” he chided. ”Just gotta make an effort not to do it again man. I can’t take it.” He thumped a hand over his heart, shaking his head. ”Good man,” he breathed, knowing that none of them were likely to let Scott get away with trying anything solo again. The pack gathered together at times like this, even when the person being watched out for didn’t really want it happening. These days that included Derek.
Stiles knew that the former werewolf hadn’t exactly been happy with him breaking into the apartment but it had been for Derek’s own good and maybe he’d gotten that message when he’d handed over Alix’s details. Huffing out a breath, Stiles dug into his pocket and retrieved his phone. He held it out with her details on screen. ”He made that pretty clear with the throttling but he was the one who gave me this. I wouldn’t have looked if he hadn’t … much.” He muttered the last word almost reluctantly. It was his way of trying to watch out for all of them. With the distraction of Lydia he hadn’t spent as much time digging into the redhead as he might otherwise have done. Heat started to touch Stiles’ cheeks as he eyed Scott, then his mouth fell open. ”We really need to get you a movie education. My Fair Lady, it’s a classic, Scott.” Not on the Star Wars level but still. ”Not much Stiles admitted with a sigh. I found some stuff buried online. Lydia’s screaming thing, she’s meant to be able to use it offensively, not just to you know … put up a banshee signal. I tried to get her to be able to use it when she wants to but … nothing.” Which meant he had to go back to the drawing board … and they got to spend more time together.

Scott wasn’t used to being the one to worry his friends but he could see the concern written all over Stiles’ face. It wasn’t something that Scott liked seeing and the truth was that he was used to worrying about his friends like that but he also knew that it wasn’t by choice. He hadn’t known that the werewolves who were loyal to Klaus were going to target him and try and get him to join them when Klaus finally found the key to creating more hybrids but that was exactly what had happened. Had Bonnie not been home when he got there then he knew that he wouldn’t have made it and that was something that had hit him quite hard. Everything that had happened had finally given him and Bonnie the push they’d needed to get their acts together and actually admit what was going on between the two of them so some good had come of it in the end at least but it was still something that Scott wished could have been avoided. He had never liked feeling weak and the truth was that he had never felt weaker than he did right now. He was under strict orders from his mom and Bonnie to take it easy and his mom had made him promise that he would take the week off school so that he could recover but that didn’t mean that he didn’t want to make sure that his friends knew he was going to be alright. He wasn’t at all surprised that Bonnie had called Stiles and told him what had happened, in fact he would have been more surprised if she or his mom hadn’t called his best friend but he still hadn’t expected Stiles to show up quite so soon although he was still glad that he had done. “I’ll do my best,” Scott assured him. He had tried doing things alone when he had thought that it would keep his friends safe and he had even gone up against the Alpha pack on his own but that had only ended up in Derek almost getting killed. One thing he had learned the hard way was that he and his friends were stronger when they were together and if making sure that he had at least one person with him rather than going anywhere on his own was what it took to give his friends peace of mind then he knew that he would do it. He had seen the concern written all over Stiles’ face and he knew that the last thing he wanted was to make his friend feel that kind of worry again. He always tried to be there for his friends as much as he could and he knew that this time he needed to let them be there for him this time. In a way it was good to have something else to think about for a while and focusing on Derek and Stiles was much easier than answering questions about Bonnie. He still hadn’t told anyone about the summer they met before either of them knew anything about the supernatural world and he knew that the last thing he wanted was to have to answer any awkward questions right now. “Yes you would, you always need to know what is going on with people.” It had always been that way with Stiles, he had always liked to know what was going on with those around him and that hadn’t changed as he’d gotten older, if anything it had gotten worse. Scott knew that it was always done with the best of intentions though, Stiles just wanted to make sure that none of them got hurt and Scott knew that they had that in common. “I think I’ll pass,” Scott said as Stiles said he needed a movie education. He had seen the important ones so the truth was that he wasn’t interested in a lot of the others. “You’ll figure it out and when I’m feeling better I’ll help as well,” he said, knowing that he wasn’t going to let the two of them try and deal with it alone. Glancing down at his hands, Stiles picked at the ragged cuticle of his middle finger with his thumb. He’d practically been chewing them off of his fingers when Bonnie had called, tiny spots of blood blooming on them, sending that coppery taste across his tongue. The temptation had been there to rush right over but Bonnie had been talking way more sensibly than he would’ve done had the shoe been on the other foot. Scott needed a little time to get his strength back before they all descended and wore him out. Even now he wasn’t sure how far to go with the lectures. The last thing he wanted to do was push Scott too far and have him relapsing. At that point both Bonnie and Scott’s mom would likely come down on him like a ton of bricks and he’d deserve it. More than once he’d led Scott into trouble before and although it wasn’t entirely his fault, his hands had been on the blade of the sword that had stabbed his friend through the stomach when the nogitsune had been in his head. He’d been the one watching when Allison had been killed too, the distraction going on in his head not enough to entirely blind him to what the nogitsune had been doing. For months afterwards he’d been wracked by dreams, the feel of that blade in his hands again, the life going out of Allison’s eyes as he’d run her through with one of those swords this time instead of one of the oni. Stiles closed his hand into a fist for a moment before he raised it to scrub his nails through his hair. The what ifs were the things that drove your brain into overdrive and when your brain was already mostly there most of the time it wasn’t a place you wanted to go.
Stiles thumped his hand lightly against the arm of the sofa instead of Scott’s arm at his friend’s reassurance. That was really all any of them were gonna be able to do. He lifted his hand after, worrying teeth into his cuticle again for a moment. Pulling it free as Scott kinda agreed with the stutter in his words Stiles tried to scowl for a moment. ”I don’t always…” he tried before he hugged out a breath and rolled his eyes. ”OK, maybe most of the time I need to know what’s going on. Sheriff’s son here though, it’s in the blood.” Former Sheriff’s son. The words had him swallowing hard. Thanks to the move his dad wasn’t top dog in the sheriff’s department anymore. Maybe it was a little easier on him but that was a big maybe. He still wasn’t home any more than he had been. Stiles planted his elbows on his knees, trying to work his brain around it all. There were still so many blanks in their understanding of absolutely everything here. Scott’s movie knowledge should’ve been the least of them but Stiles’ brain stuck on it for a moment. He snorted, waving off his friend’s words. ”This is the perfect time to watch stuff, while you’re incapacitated, a captive audience.” Brown eyes narrowed as they skittered to the TV. As Scott told him he’d figure out how to help Lydia and that he’d help Stiles sighed and looked back. His shoulders rose and fell. ”I honestly don’t know how we’re gonna. This is worse than the blind leading the blind. The only reason I think she’s even capable of it is because I’ve been poking around online. You think Danny’s got any more of a clue about this stuff?” Honestly who knew Danny had been a druid all along?

Over the last few years Scott had grown used to worrying about his friends but he definitely wasn’t used to being the one to worry them. He knew that he had annoyed them at times because he didn’t always make the right call when it came to certain situations and there were times when he had ended up putting himself on the line to try and protect them all but this was different. This time he hadn’t gone looking for trouble but it had seemed to find him anyway. He had known that Klaus wanted to create hybrids for quite some time and he had heard that wolves were starting to gather in Mystic Falls to get ready for the day when he figured out the key to successfully creating them but he hadn’t for one minute thought that he would end up in danger because a group of wolves decided to take matters into their own hand and recruit others like them for Klaus’ cause. Scott had grown so used to moving around Mystic Falls on his own but a walk home from work that he had done hundreds of times before had almost ended up in him losing his life. It was still taking time for him to get his head around that right now bit he wasn’t oblivious to the fact that he really would have died had Bonnie not been at home when he had showed up on her doorstep that day. She had saved his life and made sure that he was able to have this conversation with his best friend and he knew that he was never going to be able to thank her enough for that. It had proved to be the trigger that he and Bonnie had needed in order to finally admit what was going on between them and get together but that was something that he wasn’t sure he was ready to tell Stiles about just yet. Right now his friend seemingly had more than enough on his mind so Scott knew that he didn’t want to add to it. “At least your dad does things the right way, he doesn’t go breaking and entering,” Scott corrected. He knew that Stiles’ heart was in the right place, it always was, but the methods he chose weren’t always the best and he knew that there was no way that Derek would ever thank him for breaking into his apartment and finding out who was spending time there with him. “You mean while it hurts too much to try and get away,” he said, rolling his eyes as he looked over at his friends. He really didn’t know half of the movies that Stiles talked about a lot of the time but he still seemed to do better than most of their friends. Scott’s taste in movies was generally pretty straight forward but he knew that the same definitely wasn’t true of Stiles and something told him that his friend just wouldn’t take no for an answer with it anyway. As Stiles asked if he thought that Danny might have an idea about how to help Lydia, Scott’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “He might, it couldn’t hurt to try,” he offered, knowing that even if Danny couldn’t come up with something off the top of his head then he would try and help them figure something out. “How worried have the others been?” he asked, knowing that Stiles would have told them all as soon as he’d found out what had happened to him so that they could all be on the lookout. As the Sheriff’s kid it was inevitable he was gonna spend time at the station over the years. Those nights he’d hadn’t spent at Scott’s place, hammering him at video games, planning how they were gonna get on the lacrosse team and outplay Jackson, doing homework until he’d thought his brains were gonna leak out of his ears, he’d spent at the station with his dad. They’d been clueless about what half the cases that crossed his dad’s desk were then. They were just things that stopped his dad from being home. Hell, it gave him plenty of time to poke around the place. Stiles was pretty sure he’d heard his dad holler his name at least a thousand times when he’d been getting into something he shouldn’t have been. It was all good practice though, hours with a paperclip meaning he could open almost anything from handcuffs to the lock on the front doors of the high school. Those skills had gotten him into that weird shop on the square but they hadn’t been enough to deal with Fluffy. A freaking hellhound if ever he saw one. Stiles had known he was in over his head the minute the dog had growled at him but he’d pretty much stood his ground, OK, sprawled his ground, until Parrish had shown up and caught him in the act. The promise he’d made to his dad to stay out of trouble had gone straight out the window, right after he’d gone in through it. It wasn’t the first time he’d promised his dad he’d do better but it was probably the first time since they’d moved here that he’d really felt the guilt in the pit of his stomach over it.
Working the tip of his finger into his mouth, Stiles began to work on his ragged nail again, the coppery taste of blood filling his mouth immediately. By the end of this he’d likely have chewed them clear off. He had to force himself to pull his finger free as he scowled at his best friend. ”It’s not exactly breaking. I’m too good to break anything. I was doing a welfare check, which is exactly what my dad would’ve done.” With a lot more hammering on doors and less picking of locks. That was a hair he didn’t want to start splitting though. He’d done what he had out of fear and after Derek had made his point about what happened when he did that sort of thing he started poking around he’d kinda promised not to do it again. Kinda. He’d never promised not to educate Scott on Hollywood’s best movies though. He grumbled at Scott’s sass, went to elbow him and dropped his arm again. Not right now, not if he wanted to avoid making it hurt way more. ”Exactly, you’re stuck and you’ve got enough time on your hands to properly appreciate them.” Tip of his tongue poking out of his mouth for a moment Stiles glanced at the TV and then started to look for the remote. He puffed his cheeks as he looked back, worry for Lydia furrowing his brow for a moment. ”We’ll see what he can dig up.” Stiles gave a short laugh, leaning back against the couch, legs dangling on the outside of the arm. ”A little freaked. You’re gonna have ‘em all at the door the minute your mom opens this place up to visitors. I ended up talking to Lydia for hours. I felt a little bad keeping her up half the night.” Especially since he knew she was struggling to sleep as it was. It was why she’d ended up at his house, why he’d ended up kissing her to stop the tears.

Sitting around at home wasn’t something that Scott was very good at these days, he was used to being out there doing something all the time but that wasn’t possible right now. His mom had insisted that he stayed home for the week while he recovered and deep down he knew that it was the right thing to do but that still didn’t make it any easier. He knew how scared she had been and he completely understood so he knew that for the time being he just had to grit his teeth and bare it. Moving around wasn’t particularly easy at the moment anyway, his whole body hurt and even just walking hurt at the moment so he was confined to the sofa for the time being. It was frustrating but it was one of those things and he knew that he would be back to his old self before he knew it. Thankfully he still had his werewolf healing on his side and even though it was going to take time for him to heal this time around he would be fine and that was what he had spent the last few hours reminding his mom and Bonnie of and now it seemed that it was Stiles’ turn. It really was a miracle that Stiles had held off on showing up for as long as he had done, he had half expected his best friend to be there the minute that Bonnie helped him home. For a long time the two of them had only had each other to count on and that was a hard mentality to break even now that they had so many others around them. Stiles was still the person that he trusted the most and he knew that he could always count on his friend to talk some sense into him when he needed it. “I’m surprised you don’t break things when you trip over your own feet or fall out of windows,” Scott teased. Both of those were things that Stiles was pretty good at but he had learned that a long time ago. He still couldn’t resist teasing his best friend about it, though, and he was certain that Stiles would know that. They had been best friends, brothers, for a long time and teasing each other was something that they did quite often. “I still don’t think Derek appreciated you walking in on him while he and Alix were, you know,” he added with a grin. The picture on Derek’s face would have been priceless though and Scott would have given anything to see it. “Good call,” he commented as Stiles went to elbow him but then thought better of it. Normally he wouldn’t have minded one bit but with the way he was feeling right now even the slightest movement in the wrong direction hurt so he was glad that he didn’t have to worry about that, not to mention his mom would probably kick Stiles out straight away if he even tried it. “I really don’t have a say in this, do I?” he asked, rolling his eyes as Stiles moved to grab the remote. He knew that Stiles had been wanting to make him watch a few films for a while and right now he was a captive audience because he couldn’t escape even if he wanted to. If he was honest he could think of much worse things than watching some movies with his best friend, though, even if they weren’t necessarily going to all be his kind of thing so he knew that he would go along with it anyway. “Tell them I’m going to be fine, will you?” he asked, hoping that Stiles would pass the message on so their friends wouldn’t worry quite so much. His phone was busted so until he got a new one he knew that he couldn’t really get in touch with them too easily himself but he knew that he could count on Stiles. “Just talking, huh? Is that all that happened?” he asked, raising an eyebrow in amusement as he looked over at his friend. It was clear to everyone, especially him, that Stiles was in love with Lydia and had been for years so he couldn’t deny that he was curious. STILES STILINSKI
