━ Miss me? ━
Kai had suffered over the 3 months from Katherine who explained what her plan was and how she intended to enact it. However, before she showed up again in Mystic Falls, Kai had his own part to play. Whilst the two got along and had an ultimate plan for securing power, Kai couldn't produce magic of his own which left him in a difficult state. It was difficult to procure magic from artifacts when they were difficult to secure or witches when they didn't want to be found. Fortunately, Katherine had offered up some magical items from which he could draw power from but she only had limited stock of this. If Kai were to unlock his true potential and generate his own power, he needed to rely on magic he could draw on for now. It was no easy task, it was more of a bore than anything else. Whilst he understood the urgency of it, he wished he could have his own magic so he could cut out these tasks once and for all.
Now Malachai was an intelligent being and with Mystic Falls being a hotbed for all things supernatural, the history was rich. This town had long been linked with magic and Kai believed that perhaps, he'd be able to see something in the musuem that he could steal for himself to ensure he maintained his supply of magic. Of course, there was also the bar Katherine had mentioned. That was a location that he'd be visiting soon enough in his own time. All this was making Kai smile to himself as he started emptily towards an old cup from however long ago. When he realised, that smile soon turned into disgust, as he looked towards the item. Useless piece of shit he thought to himself. He looked towards the item with disdain. No magic meant it was worthless to him. He turned on his heels, rather than his eyes looking towards the other historical items on show, he looked at the various bodies in the room with him. Some were clearly residents and others were from out of town. ''Who willingly just comes to this town?'' He mutters to himself, unaware that someone had just heard him.

It was difficult to slot herself back into normal life after being rescued from the train station. Some evenings she’d wake up in a pool of sweat thinking she was still trapped in that damn train station. Sometimes Lex would be sitting in his own bed, awake and tapping away on his laptop, when these nightmares would happen. He’d shake Winter until she woke up, reassuring her that she was safe and back in Mystic Falls. Winter was still a little pissed at Lex for forgetting her, but also for giving her clothes away to his new girlfriend. Lex having a girlfriend was kind of weird since he was so socially awkward when it came to speaking to girls. She’d clocked the girl around town wearing her favourite yellow jumper, to which she told Lex he needed to get all these clothes back for Winter. It would be step one into showing he was sorry for what happened. The only thing she slotted back into with ease was work, even if it was the last place she saw before being snatched off the streets by the asshole Ghost Riders. It kept her mind distracted. There was a lot of work that needed to be done since her and Penny returned. The other members of staff didn’t exactly look after some of the artifacts over the past few months either because they didn’t have Penny around to tell them how to do their job. Winter slipped away from Penny’s office, making her way to the ground floor. She had been delegated the task to greet visitors in the museum, which would have been easy if she didn’t feel so damn depressed. It was painful to plaster a fake smile on her face, but she was the queen of fooling people into thinking everything was okay. Her entire childhood was pretending to teachers at school that everything was okay at home where her dad was passed out on the couch after taking fuck knows what. Soon as she reached the ground floor she spotted a man eyeing up the cup. She geared herself up to approach him, offering up more information about said cup but he turned, muttering to himself about Mystic Falls. Winter suppressed a laugh as she approached him from behind, “I’ve been asking myself the same question even though I’m one of those people who willingly came here.” Well, her arm was twisted by Lex in the end, but she could have dashed months ago. Hearing the voice to his left, he carefully turned his head to view whose unlucky day it was. Upon landing his eyes onto the blonde, he listened carefully to her words. Tilting his head, a realisation that if she managed to somehow capture Kai's attention and he needed something from her, they could bond over how they both willingly came to Mystic Falls and proceeded to bad mouth the entire town as a whole. He nodded, acknowledging her words. Her eagerness and how she approached him already gave off the vibe that she worked here. ''Well, I guess we're both cursed in that sense.'' His tone was laced with humour but there was a hint of truth in his words. It was then he turned his body to face her, giving his full attention to her whilst the left corner of his lip began to tug.
It didn't take long for Kai to already begin reading the blonde before him, his eyes scanning her facial features. He did this with everyone but not all had the ability to instantly capture Kai's interest. Something mystical radiated from her. It wasn't magic. His eyes narrowed for a moment as he began to calculated in his own mind what it was though no solutions presented themselves to him. A wave of frustration washed away those thoughts, making him turn towards the cup as he diverted his attention back to it. ''Sorry, been a long day.'' He did his best to mimic some sort of emotion, which? He didn't know. Over the course of the years, he learnt how to feign emotion and remorse even if he didn't feel it himself. So whenever he needed to don a mask, to perform an illusion, he was able to switch. He was a chameleon when he decided to be. His head tilted ever so slightly, the lack of magical essence from the cup becoming the least of his worries now. Beside him stood someone with something he'd never felt before. What magic was that?
Was it even magic? Kai couldn't pinpoint it, his eyes snapping back onto the blonde. ''To be honest with you,'' Kai begun, attempting to converse with her, ''I'm kinda new 'round here. My family are all here and it's been awhile since I've seen them.'' Kai began to trail, his eyes doing the same as he stared into nothing. ''Ah,'' He sighed, a smile developing on his lips. ''I can't wait to see the smiles on their faces when they see I've finally come home.'' His eyes returned back to her. The grin returned, this could have been mistaken for happiness or joy but really, the grin held something more malicious. She'd never know what Kai had done to his family so she'd believe whatever he threw at her about them. ''What about you? There must be a reason why you've decided to come here of all places.'' Intrigued was the best word to describe Kai in that moment. His instincts screamed at him. They whispered in his ears that something about this woman held power. He needed to figure out what it was.

Winter could leave town today. That would be a massive ‘fuck you.’ to Lex, but she’d also be screwing over Penny. The thought of screwing over Penny sent a shiver down her spine. There were just some people in the world you don’t cross and Penny was one of them. Plus the reality was she didn’t want to leave.. Eventually she’d forgive Lex for being a forgetful asshole, but for now the memories of her time in the train station were too raw. Embedded in her mind, fresh. She nearly threw up when Elias told her how long she’d been gone. She was about to defend Mystic Falls. Yes it was some boring straight end town where people kept their lawns neat and waved at their neighbours every morning, but there were worse places to be. The town was better than the neighbourhood she grew up in back in Seattle. At least here she could walk down the street without feeling the need to reach for her gun every few seconds. But the stranger retracted a little, apologising for his comment. Winter shrugged, “Don’t say shit like that in front of one of those founding family members.” She said with a smile, before lowering her voice a little, “Between me and you I find it strange they have such a thing here.” Even stranger they hadn’t just all died out by now, especially with all the so-called animal attacks. Winter broke into a warm smile as he explained why he was in town, even though she could barely relate. The only family she had left were Elias, who hated her and was technically dead and Jeremiah who had his own family and lived a thousand miles away. “Have you been away somewhere?” Oh she certainly couldn’t relate. Her dad never greeted her with a smile when she returned home from school. The only time he was remotely happy with her is when she agreed to go to the store and steal alcohol for him. “I met someone back in New York. He was heading to Mystic Falls, but had no ride. I have a van, so I offered to bring him because I hate New York and my job was coming to an end.” There was more to the story, but she wasn’t going to jump into the fact she looked into the future and saw she and Lex were going to be friends. “I’m Winter. I work here, if you hadn’t of already guessed.”KAI PARKER

His ears perked up at the mention of the founding families. He was certain that Katherine had mentioned something along those lines but to hear someone else saying that, now that was fascinating to him. The corner of his lip tugging upwards and the nod certainly showed that his interest had skyrocketed. There was no doubt in a town like this, the founding families would have little trinkets that Kai could procure from them IF he had a way in. As much as he'd love to snap necks, grab what he needed and get out, Katherine wouldn't exactly be too happy with him. ''Founding families, huh?'' Kai attempted to act like he had no clue that was a thing here. He had to keep up the illusion that he knew nothing about Mystic Falls and had only just arrived. ''These small towns always have something weird going on with them.'' Would that unlock some kind of information that could prove useful to him? He'd find out.
''Yeah. I- uh, I had some issues that I needed to resolve. It took a very long time to do get it all sorted out and before I knew it, my family had all moved here so I'm the last of the bunch.'' He tried his hardest to add some emotion to his tone. This was slowly becoming a little game for him to play now. He continued trying to figure her out as he continued this act. At the mention of New York, a smile and nod followed. ''Y-know what? I've never been to New York and I'm going to assume that you wouldn't suggest that as a place to visit.'' His tone was laced with humour, chuckling slightly. On the outside, he looked like the nicest guy but only if she knew who he truly was, she'd be running in the opposite direction. ''Yeaaah I kind of guessed that.'' He then stuck his hand out, donning the wide smile on his lips. ''My parents named me Malachai of all things but you can call me Kai, Winter.'' He waited patiently, hoping that she'd shake his hand. This would be his way of figuring her out.

Mystic Falls was a little bit fucking weird. The people were nice, but somewhat clicky. They could probably sense that Winter wasn’t from the area. They still said good morning to her though and offered her a smile. Some turned their nose up at the fact two outsiders were the ones running the museum too, even though Penny held more knowledge that everyone in this town. “Yeah I think it’s a small town thing because you never hear that shit back in the cities.” Hilarious to think of founding families in Seattle, holding little committee meetings on what to bring to the summer fair or how to better the area. Winter laughed softly, shrugging as she did so. “Depends what you’re looking for. It’s probably good to visit for a few days but I find the place so busy and expensive.” It was overwhelming to the senses. There was also the added risk that someone might bump into her on the street, triggering something. It was hard to walk down the sidewalk without almost brushing past a person. As for the subway, it was near impossible to keep her personal space free. “Malachai is a nice name. My mom named me Winter because it was snowing outside and she couldn’t be bothered to use her brain to think up a normal name.” It could have been worse. She could have been called something like snowflake or ice. Winter glanced down at Kai’s hand as he extended it out for her to shake. Oh fuck. Nothing had happened in a long time though. Even when she hugged Lex at the auction there was nothing. So, she reached out taking Kai’s hand and shook it, trying her best to focus on the here and now. Keeping her anchored by the present by listening to the sounds that surrounded them or the light smell of bleach in the air from the freshly cleaned floors. It was hopeless though. As soon as her fingers curled around his hand the visions rushed through her mind, ripping her temporarily out of reality and into Kai’s mind. It wasn’t what she was expecting to see though. Winter saw a younger version of Kai with a man. His dad? Whoever it was he was saying awful things to Kai, calling him an abomination and an outsider. Then seconds later images of Kai being banished to some isolated world using magic. Winter slowly pulled her hand away from Kai, not trying to seem like she was lowkey freaking out. She’d never seen into someone's past before. “Why would you come back to visit your family when they were so awful to you?” KAI PARKER
