━ moral compromise has its privileges ━ EVERYTHING IN HIS LIFE WAS ALRIGHT AGAIN. His wife had been returned to him, they were going to figure out the secret formula to creating chimeras and create their own, and it was Christmas. Well, their son was still half-vampire, and they had to work with Mal again, so perhaps everything was not alright, but at least it was going in the right direction. Or… some direction, depending on how Lena took the news tonight.
He let her fashion his bowtie before they left, grinning down at her as she did, and distracting Lena by planting kisses on her cheeks. Most of his sweet whispers now were about how much he’d missed her, how lost he was without her, how his life could never have gone on. It was the truth now that he knew it could be, but, during that time, he wasn’t totally aware of what he’d been missing. Pierre had known it was something, though, which meant their love was stronger than any supernatural force.
And hopefully it would survive tonight’s surprise.
As they waded into the spill of bodies (and pumping hearts)━blending in with their holiday-themed Fancy Clothes━Pierre’s arm circled around Lena’s waist, keeping her pressed to his side. He nodded politely at anybody who looked in their direction, assessing the thumps of their hearts in their chests, though it didn’t seem to matter anymore. Mal could change just about anyone.
“Your surprise will be ‘ere shortly,” He hummed, turning to press his lips to her temple just before his hands broke from Lena and scooped two champagne flutes from a passing waiter’s tray. “And… you must remember, I made dzis deal while you were not… with me. But I still believe it will be fruitful.” He handed Lena her glass and took a sip of his own for some liquid courage. Before seeing how undeniably smart his plan was, she might strangle him.
“I released zee girl to Mal on zee condition that ‘e shows us━well, me━‘ow to successfully create chimeras. We did one while you were gone, and we are meeting ‘im ‘ere to find anodzer… Joyeux Noël, mon cœur.” Perhaps it would be his last Christmas alive… or at least happily married.

At least she’d made it home before Christmas. The past few weeks with Pierre and Baxter had truly been amazing. Their family was complete again and she was excited to spend the holidays with the two people who meant the most to her. This year would be the best Chritsmas ever, outshining their other hundred Christmases they’d had together. Lena would never have chosen to go to the party at the Grey Haven Hotel. It would probably be full of drunk idiots overindulging on wine but Pierre persuading her. Granted, she didn’t need a lot of persuading. It was an excuse to pull out her favourite red dress and she’d get to see her husband looking extremely handsome and irresistibly in a suit. She watched from the other side of the bedroom as he fixed his bowtie, admiring him. The most perfect man to ever exist. Pierre caught her eye, rushing over to give her a kiss. Before getting ready though Lena slipped out of the apartment with a gift in hand. It wasn’t too hard for her to track down Teddy’s apartment number, but when she knocked on the door no one was home. She placed the wrapped gift outside the door with a note attached. ‘To Julian and Teddy. Have a magical Christmas. From Lena x’ Underneath the wrapping paper was scalextric. It was something he’d mentioned a few times in the train station, talking about how cool they were. Lena had no idea what these scalextric things were. As a child Baxter would be given a toy car and he’d be forced to drive it around the carpet manually. This thing apparently did all the driving. Lena remained glued to Pierre as they stepped into the hotel, giving a polite smile to people who looked over at them. “My surprise?” She took the champagne from Pierre, her eyes narrowing slightly at his comment. “Hmmm… it sounds like I am not going to agree with this.” Suggestion he would have made a different choice if she was with him. Hopefully it was something minor like deciding to upgrade their Netflix plan. Her face fell immediately when he mentioned Mal before it twisted into a deep frown. An expression of annoyance rushed over her face. “You did what?” An agreement? With Mal? How could he? “That man, he killed our son and you are entering into some kind of business with him? Are you fuckin’ serious Pierre?” The temptation was there to smash the champagne over his head for being so stupid, but instead she took a small sip. PIERRE BAUDELAIRE

━ moral compromise has its privileges ━ THE MOMENT HE’D THOUGHT MAY EVENTUALLY come━the one where Lena broke the promise they’d made when she returned and cast him away in annoyance━may have finally arrived. He hoped it wasn’t so, but it was entirely possible.
He watched her face change as he told her the news, and the sip she took of her champagne, after scolding him, was dangerously calm. He could see the storm approaching as though he were floating in the middle of the ocean on nothing more than a raft, stuck watching a tidal wave coming toward him. Maybe Lena would literally drown him. Quickly, Pierre glanced around in search of any fancy-people fish tanks. None. Thank God.
“Listen… mon cœur,” He began lightly, a pleading edge to his voice. “Dzis is all we’ve worked towards. ‘E ‘as zee answer, and ‘e’s showing me ‘ow to successfully complete an experiment. Dzis knowledge is invaluable.” Unfortunately, Mal was the only one who could give it to them. That part wasn’t lost on Pierre, but he made sacrifices for the grander plan. “Come wiz us next time,” He suggested hopefully, “You can see what we are doing… it is amazing, mon amour.” Pierre smiled, “Everyzing we ‘ave wanted. You will see!” Or he’d be dead.

A tornado has probably never passed through Mystic Falls before, especially not a devastating one that was threatening to wipe out everything in its path. But, with the news Pierre had just delivered to Lena there was a chance one was about to rip through the town and destroy everything. It was hard to keep a lid on things. Her husband had sided with the enemy. With the man who killed their son. It broke her heart when she realised what had happened to Baxter. Together they’d failed to keep their son safe. Failed to even keep him alive. “Don’t mon coeur me.” She snapped harshly. Yes, the experiments were everything they had worked together. They’d spent decades desperately trying to perfect the method, but failing every time. Pierre apparently had the answers, but she didn’t want to hear them if they came from Mal’s mouth. “Pierre. He is a lying piece of shit. He kill our son! Does that mean nothing to you?” She kept her voice low. They didn’t need any eyes on them. “Why is he helping you? Mal does not help people for no reason.” It would only be a matter of time before Mal stabbed one of them in the back. Again. PIERRE BAUDELAIRE

━ moral compromise has its privileges ━ PIERRE FROWNED DEEPLY, LOOKING LIKE A KICKED puppy when Lena snapped at him for using her pet name. He was trying to help, to do a good thing by figuring out the secret recipe to creating chimeras━it wasn’t his fault the recipe required a dash of Mal!
But it made sense. If they were going to figure out how to do this, then they needed the person they’d started it with. It was a shame their fourth man wasn’t here to see this━he’d help keep Mal in line. If that was at all possible.
He tried to reason with Lena, but she wasn’t hearing it. “Of course it does!” Pierre exclaimed, his eyes dancing around the people surrounding them as they glanced at him. He puffed, hunching his shoulders a little over his wife and lowering his voice. “Of course it does.” He repeated, quieter this time. “But dzis was zee only choice if we are to create our own. Nobody else can show us━nobody dzat will do it for Mal’s price…” Pierre trailed off, his teeth worrying at his lower lip as she asked why Mal was helping him. Just another thing he’d done without her approval━but she hadn’t been around! There was no one else to ask if it was just him!
“Zee girl’s memories.” The edges of his mouth tipped up in a smirk. He was proud of himself for this━and if he could spin it positively, then maybe Lena would be, too. “‘E wanted dzem back━for ‘er to remember ‘im. I agreed under zee condition ‘e shows me ‘ow to create dzem. ‘E knows dzat if he does anyzing to screw us over, I will kill zee girl.” Pierre declared, chest a little puffed because, yeah, it was a good plan!
Pierre leaned in a little closer, one hand catching Lena’s elbow as if pulling her in to conspire with him. “Dzis… relationship ‘e ‘as with ‘er. It goes far deeper dzan we zought…” His lips twisted somewhat evilly, “She is real leverage. I dzink he would do anyzing for her.” Meaning the possibilities of what they could lord over him were endless. Ah, he’d done so well by suggesting they go for her in the first place! Why did Lena ever doubt him?!

Oh, she hated it when Pierre looked at her like that. Even though she was furious, she still felt guilty for snapping at him. It was the same tone she would use with him when they first met and he’d come into the bakery touching everything. At the time it was frustrating to watch him walk around and buy nothing, but now whenever she thought about those moments she smiled. She was eternally grateful that he stepped into her bakery randomly one day. For centuries Lena had been desperate to achieve what Mal had achieved. The idea of creating their own beings spilled through her fingers with each failed experiment. But since Baxter was taken those dreams had diminished slightly. “Of course there’s a fuckin’ price.” Once upon time Lena believed Mal was on their side and would do anything for them. She was so damn wrong about him. Mal’s side piece gets her memories back in exchange for Mal’s help. It was actually a good idea. Lena was somewhat impressed, but her face didn’t show it. “You didn’t ask… oh.” Realisation hit. She wasn’t around to ask at the time. This plan was a win-win situation for both sides, which she wasn’t overly happy about. She didn’t want Mal to gain anything. “Well, he can show us then we kill the girl?” Let Mal see how it felt to be stabbed in the back. Lena leaned a little closer to Pierre, hanging off his words. “You think he has feelings for her?” She sounded genuinely surprised. She knew there was some kind of connection between the two, but she could never imagine Mal developing real feelings for another person. “Okay… okay.” She puffed out quietly, “Let's go with the plan, but he still need to pay for taking Baxter… but we can sort that later.” One plan at a time. Her fingers laced around Pierre’s as a smile formed on her face. How could she stay angry at Pierre? His perfect little face looking down at her. “For now we drink and enjoy party.” Another year around the sun and an eternity to go. That's all that mattered to Lena. PIERRE BAUDELAIRE - the end!
