━ peace is a struggle against our very nature ━ AFTER HE’D HAD HIS DISCUSSION WITH LEAH, Elias found more proof to suggest he was right━obviously. He didn’t think there was a time when he was ever wrong. Every hunch he followed turned out to be something, and this was a lot of somethings.
He needed Winter’s abilities to read the infected, but he couldn’t find her anywhere. There wasn’t any wind of her or her boss at the museum, and when Elias finally showed himself and asked about her, they couldn’t seem to remember her. Which he thought was odd, because you weren’t likely to forget a girl named after the season nobody liked. She wasn’t at the hotel, either, and there seemed to be no record of her name━and he wasn’t going to risk asking that idiot she liked to spend her time with.
Instead of going about this like a detective━because clearly something else was at work here━Elias decided to work toward his end goal as a reaper instead. He slipped between the planes and focused, thinking of Winter, trying to hunt through all the souls in Mystic Falls to find her.
But she wasn’t living. She wasn’t dead, either━it wasn’t Heaven or Hell; it was some kind of purgatory.
At least he’d found her.
Elias appeared in front of her, his eyes ticking around the exposed stones on the inside of the structure, the train tracks that looked desolate, and the odd boards on the walls, proclaiming a train out of Mystic Falls. Whatever it was, it wasn’t normal, but that was a task for later.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Elias asked, clearly irritated, as though it was her fault. “People are dying, and you’re just sitting here?” He grumbled. There seemed to be no effort on her part; she was waiting around just, what, hoping someone would come get her? Elias almost hated giving her an easy way out.
“Wait!” A voice called from Winter’s other side, and Elias didn’t bother sparing the blonde━the boss from the museum, he was sure━more than a glance. “Tell Lawrence! He works at the club!” She sounded desperate, but Elias didn’t have it in his heart (which no longer even dully thumped in his chest) to care.
“Let’s go.” He reached out and took her arm, and in a moment they were back in Mystic Falls━in her hotel room, actually, where all of her things had been shoved into a corner and blended in with the teenager-like messiness of it. “I need you to tap into some people’s memories.” He stated simply, always finding it best to get to the point. “Two thousand and four. Two thousand and five.”— Yes. It had finally reached that stage where she’d decided to count the bricks in the train station. In her head of course, Penny wouldn’t stand for her Winter doing that shit out loud. It didn’t even help to pass the time because she realised there was no time to pass. They weren’t waiting for anything. They were just existing in another realm, far far away from reality, with nothing but themselves. Well, Kace had his cigarettes, but he was running out quickly. She’d suggested maybe he limited himself to one puff a day. There was a chance he’d make it out. His brother was bound to save him at some point, so he was playing a waiting game. Winter and Penny in the meanwhile were edging their bets on some loose ass connections back in Mystic Falls. Penny was a lot calmer than Winter or maybe she was really good at pretending (Winter assumed the latter) whereas Winter was pacing the train station every hour like an anxious animal. By now she had attempted to make conversation with everyone in the train station because it was starting to run dry between her and Penny. They’d covered every single aspect of Winter’s very short life and to her surprise Penny listened without making a sarcasm comment. Then they started to cover Penny’s life, but damn it was long, starting somewhere in the fifteen hundreds. She tried to keep her questions to an absolute minimum even though she was fascinated with Penny’s life. Despite her longevity there was no significant other although she mentioned someone called Lawrence. Canadian vampire who didn’t know what day of the week it was. Penny spoke about him with a tight smirk on her face. Goddamn she lost track of where she was on the wall but starting over didn’t sound that bad. “One. Two.” Her voice was a low whisper as she started the process all over again, until Elias appeared in front of her. Winter leaped backwards, “Fuck!” She shouted as her hand came to her chest, feeling her heart racing. “What the hell are you doing here?” He hadn’t come via the normal route with the Ghost Riders, but it was clear he had no intention of staying either. She spun around to face Penny for a split second before turning back to Elias. The look on his face already answered her question. He wasn’t going to save Penny. “Lawrence. At the club. Vampire with no daylight ring.” There was no time to run across to give Penny a hug because within a blink of an eye they were back in her hotel room. As soon as they landed in the familiar room she yanked her arm away from Elias. “How did you find me? Did you know I was missing? How did you remember me?” More importantly, how the fuck was Elias the one to save her? The half brother who literally didn’t give a shit about her and wanted nothing more to do with her. ━ peace is a struggle against our very nature ━ WHY DID CHILDREN ASK SO MANY QUESTIONS? Honestly, if Elias had the capability, his head might’ve exploded. Winter was lucky he wasn’t actually living, otherwise, her endless irritation might’ve given him a heart attack━or some other weak thing that took out mortals. First she asked what he was doing there━which had to be obvious, didn’t it?━and then, once they were back in the hotel room, she continued yammering.
Elias grumbled as he stepped back, his eyes sweeping over the hotel room, assessing it. Spacious, but unkempt. These kids had taken everything nice about this place and absolutely ruined it. Finally, his gaze landed on Winter once more, “Do you ever stop talking?” He asked gruffly, “I helped you, so I’ll get my questions answered first.” Elias’ mouth went into a hard line as he looked over her face, giving her a moment to control herself before he continued,
“Why were you there, and who brought you there?” He asked, hazel eyes narrowing inquisitively. “How long have you been gone?” Elias glanced at the room again, noting the pile of women’s clothing in one corner, and nodding to it as if to indicate it to Winter.
Once he had his own answers, he continued, answering her question with another question. “Did you think I would forget the incessant girl who claimed to be my sister?” He raised his brows slightly, “Has someone else forgotten you?” Like the boy who seemed to be careless with her things? If anyone else appeared in the train station and saved her she would have thrown her arms around them and hugged them so damn tightly saying ‘thank you!’ a thousand times over. But it was Elias. She refused to thank him because there was no way he’d saved her out of the kindness of his own heart. Bringing her back must have benefited him in some way. Winter frowned at Elias, “You know you’re an asshole right? A grade A asshole in fact.” And there it was. He had questions for her. She hesitated for a moment, considering just walking away from him and refusing to help him, but no doubt he’d grab hold of her and teleport her straight back into the train station. “Ghostriders. I don’t know why and I don’t know how long I’ve been gone… I was taken in July, maybe.” Her gaze followed his, over toward the pile of clothes in the corner. Fantastic. Lex had just scrunched them up into a pile and now they’d be all creased. “I am your sister… go look up your family tree or whatever. You’ll see I’m right.” She was bored of trying to convince him otherwise. Elias brought absolutely nothing to her life, so she couldn’t give a shit if he didn’t want anything to do with her. It was easier for her. “Yeah everyone has forgotten me apart from you… how did you remember me?”ELIAS ELLIOTT - wrap with yours?

━ peace is a struggle against our very nature ━ THANKFULLY, WINTER GAVE ELIAS THE ANSWERS he wanted, meaning he didn’t have to speak to her for much longer. The faster he was out of here, the better. “Ghostriders…” He repeated, “The Wild Hunt?” Elias asked, a deep frown on his features. He knew better than to think stories like these were just tales, but it seemed like a random group to attack Mystic Falls. No, it didn’t matter, and he didn’t have to work it out now━especially not with Winter. It wasn’t her business to know any of this.
“I’m an only child.” He stated gruffly. It didn’t matter whose blood he had, his family consisted of his mom, dad, and him, and that was final. He wasn’t going to keep arguing with Winter about it just because she was too stupid to understand, and no, he didn’t forgive her for it just because of her upbringing.
“I’m immune to whatever they did to everyone else.” Elias responded simply, “Stay around, and remain vigilant. There’s a virus going around, and I’ll require you for research later.” In other words, don’t get infected, because it would cause a lot of problems and be incredibly annoying. He nodded firmly in the absence of a goodbye, then disappeared. WINTER BEATON | zee end!
