━ like sisyphus pushing that rock uphill ━ REMZI REALLY CONSIDERED GOING to the club, but he’d likely run into Leah there, and most definitely Hannya, and Remzi needed a moment from them. Seriously, he didn’t think he’d ever want time away from constant free and willing p*ssy, but he had to fucking breathe once in a while. Flipping his switch back on didn’t mean he was any more eager to deal with his emotions, especially not when they involved his brother and the death that was his fault.
And the baby. Fuck, the baby. It didn’t make it even━Remzi started to drown in guilt the more he heard Leah make up excuses for it. He knew what Hannya was, but her sharp laugh in response to the story was fucking jarring. At first, Remzi thought it was deserved after what they’d done to Raik━an eye for an eye, right? And even though he loved his brother more than anybody else in the world (okay, except for their mom), that life hadn’t begun, and Raik’s blood was on Remzi’s hands.
He thought about their last conversation over and over again. It wasn’t him, he wasn’t himself during it, but Raik gave up all hope in his brother. Remzi slaughtered Katie and tried to compel Raik to not only forget about it, but also to clean up his mess.
Raik wouldn’t have wanted to trade his life for an innocent child… or even for revenge. He wouldn’t have thought━even for a second━that it was an equal or equivalent justice. But that was why he was the better son, better person.
Slipping through the doors with his shoulders hanging heavily, Remzi shifted into a seat at the bar and ordered a drink, trying to avoid eye contact with the bartender. She might ask him about Raik’s sudden disappearance from work, just like his parents kept hounding Remzi to get ahold of his brother, and he didn’t know how to keep dealing with the nausea that came after lying. Usually it didn’t affect him; usually he didn’t fucking care who he lied to or what about.
Remzi curled his fingers around the deep divots of his rocks glass and brought it to his lips, taking a long gulp of the rum and Coke. The bartender lingered, looking a little suspicious like she was about to ask him a question, and as Remzi turned to stand and flee the scene, he spotted a familiar tumble of red hair. Shifting over to her, he smirked lazily, blue eyes trained on Rose━the woman who turned him into this. (Also, yeah, he eventually remembered her name.)
“You’re still in town?” He asked, recalling how she mentioned that she’d seen Raik the last time. Remzi hadn’t cared then, but he certainly did now. And he wanted to know why she bothered to stick around━trying to make up for lost time? “Figure you’re still not a fan of chatting, but I gotta say, I’m a lot less of a fucking drag this time.” Completely untrue. If anything, Remzi was even worse simply for the fact that he couldn’t find fun anymore. “How ‘bout you?” Remzi nodded upwards, “You gonna play nice for me?”

RERUN WITH REMZI DURMAZ
She was stuck. Plain and simple. Every time she got the urge to pick up and run, it was as if her feet were woven into the ground below. Iain. It was all his fault. She curled her nose up at the very thought of it. He had done this to her. Why couldn't he have stayed in Scotland? Why did he have to come halfway around the world to this dump of a town?
(because of you, her inner voice pointed out, he came here because of you)
Rose couldn't afford to think too long and hard about it. If she did, she would find her wandering dangerously close to something that she couldn't deal with (and she was already close enough as it was). She needed to put space between she and Iain --- hence telling herself to run but every time she tried, she found herself nearly doing the opposite and seeking him out instead.
She gripped the glass in front of her more tightly, her frustrations working themselves closer to the surface. She heard the telltale splintering of glass and looked down to see the cracks moving throughout the surface. She pushed it away with a sigh, leaving the damage glass and its contents. She intended to go somewhere and lick her wounds but instead she found herself face to face with the other man in her life.
Rose was ashamed to admit that it was like she had forgotten about him. Her mind had shifted so drastically that it hadn't had room for him anymore. But now that they were face to face once again, she steeled herself. "Play nice? Honey, I was playing nice last time --- you're the one who dragged us down into the mud with your base instincts," she reminded him, crossing one arm over the other. She waited a beat or two and then raised an eyebrow. "But I am interested to see what makes you less of a drag this time around. So let's hear it."

━ like sisyphus pushing that rock uphill ━ PLAYING NICE? REMZI’S THROAT TIGHTENED AT THE memory, one brow raised. He smirked slowly, raising his free hand to rub at the muscles in his neck. They weren’t really convulsing, but she almost did squeeze the life out of him. Part of him wished she had.
“Base instincts,” Remzi repeated with a scoff, “You must not hang around dudes a lot, huh? Or at least none that are honest━I was just telling you what was on my mind.” He raised his glass, but paused to say, “You a lesbo?” Before taking another sip. It was almost as if he wanted her to threaten him again━maybe he did. Not for any inappropriate reasons, just ‘cause he wanted to suffer for the road he’d chosen in life. One that ended up without Raik on it.
They were supposed to stick together. After Raik returned from his service, they were supposed to have a brotherly bonding trip━it should’ve never turned out like this. Part of him wanted to blame Rose, and he had, but now he accepted his own fault in all of this. That it was his━every single fucking part of it.
He just wanted his brother back. He wanted his life before the vampire shit.
But that meant giving up Leah, too, and he didn’t know if he could do that. They were awful together most of the time, but what did it say about him if they fit together so perfectly? She’d been there after Raik’s death━she was actively trying to help, so they’d become something in all this time.
“Flipped my switch back on, babe. Now it’s your turn to stop being such a fucking buzzkill,” He grinned wide, though Remzi wasn’t sure whether or not hers was off━it was an effective jab either way.
Polishing off what was left in his glass (which was more than a mouthful), Remzi raised his empty cup at her. “You want another drink? Since yours is…” His blue eyes dipped and peered into her glass, then flashed an expression that said yeesh before he smirked at her once more.

RERUN WITH REMZI DURMAZ
She burst into laughter at his words. She should be offended (she should him just how offended she was) but instead she was amused. He just couldn't help himself, no matter what his mood. "No, I am not harboring feelings for other females --- I am not harboring feelings at all. I like sex just fine but I have taste." She shrugged her shoulders as if it was truly a simple explanation. He seemed be thinking in black and white. "Hint for next time --- with another girl that is. We like a hint of subtly in our flirting. Less is more and all that." Or at least she did. She assumed that his brand of trying to pick up worked for some.
Just not her.
He had flipped his switch? Really? She hadn't really noticed any mark differences so far, although she would admit that she was less likely to wring his not so scrawny neck. She took a deep breath before rolling her eyes. "I would say letting those emotions back in would make be a buzzkill. All weepy and boring. Ugh." She stuck her tongue out for good measure. "I am fine just the way I am. You would know that if you didn't judge me solely based on whether or not I respond to your caveman antics."
However, given her current fight to keep herself free from all those pesky emotions, she wondered what had done it for him. She tilted her head, giving him a look as if she was trying to read what was going on in that head of his. She thought back to their beginning moments and what she had learned about him in the aftermath. "It was your brother, wasn't it? The key to you letting it all back in. I get it. He seems sweet."
She looked down at her broken glass and then shrugged her shoulders. "Why not? I may as well get to know this you as well. See if my oopsie wasn't all that bad in the end."
