━ a little bit of everything all of the time. ━ NIAMH HAD CALLED IT A CON MANS WET DREAM RIGHT BEFORE she'd seen a stall of ornate blown glass vases that 'looked like bongs' and ran off, leaving Fionn in the dust. It was a market of some sort. Right in the centre of Mystic Falls, the dinky little tourist town a good bus ride away from Whitmore. The town his father had grown up in, the one Fionn kept gravitating back to, with that awful little handbook tucked into his pocket like a homing beacon. He'd come with Niamh this time, mostly because he was worried he was spending too much time being a crazy person to keep a proper eye on his baby sister. Not that it mattered, he'd be lucky if he seen her for the rest of the day, a flash of her hair and a gleeful squeal following his yell to keep her phone on loud.
In the meantime, Fionn wandered the small valley of stalls without any real interest. It was mostly rubbish, a couple of tables of homemade jams and poorly made embroidery. It was typical shit for a small town market, the kind of thing tourists ate up by the spoonful. A couple of bibbed old ladies tried to tell him about some Civil War history, but Fionn pretended somebody was calling for him in case they started talking about the Confederacy, or something equally painful. He made his way towards the back, where the stalls got a little weirder and a lot quieter. He heard the fountain somewhere close, but made no effort to find it in the bitterly bright sunshine. Instead, Fionn found himself waylaid by an oddly erected stall set up separately from the others.
It was empty at the moment, but there was a chair on the outside, as well as the inside. A silk show pillow on the fold out seat, making Fionn's nose wrinkle in amusement and interest. On the lace draped top was an assortment of occult paraphernalia. A polished animal skull used as a paperweight to keep a stack of cards from blowing away. An unlit black candle, an ornate silver gilded hand mirror and, even stranger, a crystal ball. Fionn snorted as he lifted the hefty ball of glass, the inside bubbled and warped artistically. He rolled its cool surface in his hands, staring into it as if he might see something. After a minute, he freaked himself out when something moved in the reflection over his shoulder and he jumped. "I wasn't gonna steal it," He said in a rush, setting it down as he turned guiltily. "Just lookin'." He hadn't been accused of anything, but he still started sweating when he turned. Fionn had expected a delicate headscarf on an old, withered, witch-like woman to take their place behind the stall. That was not, in any shape or form, what happened in the end.

Winter almost jumped with joy when she saw a poster in town advertising the town's upcoming fair. She didn't delay in getting in touch with the organizer either to ask if she could be a part of it. At first, they weren’t convinced. A fortune teller wasn’t what they were looking for, but in the end, she managed to convince them to give her a stall, agreeing to pay a good amount for it too. Money was no longer an issue with her job in the museum, which she loved. It paid well and she got to play with old stuff all day. So she was happy to fork out the cash for the stall at the fair for the weekend, knowing she’d probably make that back within a few hours. Even the non-believers were drawn to her stall, especially the young boys. She would flash them a genuine smile and they’d end up crawling towards her. This was a nice town though, with nice people. In the cities her male customers could end up being somewhat creepy, asking her if she saw a future of them together in her crystal ball while giggling with their friends. The excitement was rushing through her whilst she was setting up her stall. Finally, she was doing what she loved. She told Lex about the fair, telling him he should come down and pay her a visit. He mumbled something about that Will guy he was now hanging around with which sucked because she was starting to enjoy Lex’s company. Granted he was a miserable moody boy, but he had his quirks which kept Winter happy. She’d also grown used to his company after spending so long sharing her living space with him in her van (until he demanded a motel room). The motel he chose was okay. They had their own bed, a nice hot shower and fresh towels, but Winter missed her van. Some nights she would find herself tossing and turning, unable to catch her sleep. Those nights she would sneak out of the bedroom and back to her van. Curling up on the mattress in the back, and pulled the thin blanket over her whilst she drifted off into a peaceful sleep. Lex couldn’t understand it, but her van was her home. Something she could call her own. There was a huge smile glued to her face as she placed her crystal ball down on the table. Balancing her plastic animal head on the tarot cards to stop the wind from taking them. She was ready. In the midst of all the excitement, she’d completely forgotten to eat dinner before rushing out of the motel room. She headed off to a nearby food van, grabbing herself a sausage sandwich before heading back to her stand, eating all of her food before she arrived. Winter paused, watching another boy pick up her crystal ball, inspecting it carefully. She slowly strolled towards him, peering over his shoulder with a grin on her face, catching her reflection in the glass. The stranger spotted her too and jumped. Winter let out a quiet laugh as he spun around to face her, “I’d be surprised if that brought you more than five bucks.” She walked past the boy, taking a seat. She gestured towards the free seat, “I usually charge for readings, but considering you're my first customer I’ll give you one for free.” FIONN WARD
