— here lies a toppled god, his fall was not a small one —
Alex was starting to like what Mystic Falls offered. When he first arrived in town, he was indifferent but now that they had found Viktor, in the company of a beautiful woman, Alex failed to see what else he can do in town now that their main task was done. Maybe he could get himself a job like the ones he got previously to grab as much money as possible, but back then, he was doing it because he had to, not because he wanted to. What about now, though? They didn't really need the money to go anywhere, so there was no need for him to rush for cash. But he was bored, though. He sat in the motel room for most of the time without getting outside much, having always preferred to stay with familiar people, and in this case, it was his family. Though he was alone in the motel room and he had nothing to do at all.
Alex didn't even have any friends to hit up. He was watching people from the window of his room, his legs drawn to his chest with his chin propped on his kneecap. He was just watching them go on their merry way, always looking so busy and so productive that Alex felt himself grow jealous. Alex eventually pushed himself up from where he was sitting and started making his way to the wardrobe so he could pull out a jacket to wear on top of the long-sleeved shirt that he was wearing. Alex ran a lot colder than most people, so he was always a little chilly.
Alex left a note saying that he'd gone out for a walk and left not long after, the door closing gently behind him. Alex eventually found himself surrounded by the same people he watched from the window and it felt ... nice. He started walking without any particular destination in mind until he entered a convenience store where he purchased a map and also a bag of chips, just to keep him company while he explored the town, using the map he purchased. Alex took a chip between his lips and wiped the crumbles and oil from his fingers and stretched the map out so he could see where everything was. Alex was so invested in the map that he barely noticed where he was going. A few people told him to 'watch it' and he frowned slightly at them because that was exactly what he was doing, he was watching it. Were they perhaps jealous? Alex shook his head, mumbling 'weird' under his breath before he continued paying attention to his map. The Falls. It sounded... dangerous but also sounded nice. He wanted to know just what it was that was falling.
It was inevitable that he'd find himself bumping into someone due to the fact that he wasn't paying attention to his surroundings and when he did, the map fell from his hands and that was the exact moment when the wind decided to pick up and it swept the map away. "Nem! A fenébe is." No! Damn it. Alex's eyes moved to the person he'd bumped into and bowed his head slightly in a silent apology at first. "Are you sorry?" There was something odd about the way the apology sat on his tongue at first before he translated what he'd just said in his own head. "Nem úgy értettem!" I didn't mean that! Alex quickly said before he realized he'd slipped into his first language again. "I am sorry." He stressed as he placed his own hand against his chest. "You, uh..." Alex's brows furrowed as he bit down on his bottom lip momentarily as his hands moved animatedly while he was trying to figure out what that word translated into in English. "Sért— Hurt? Ah, yes, you hurt?"

Winter could pack up her van at any moment and leave Mystic Falls if she wanted, but ugh, she couldn’t leave Lex behind. She was stuck here until he finished doing whatever business he came to do. He had explained it to her a few times, but it sounded a bit confusing. He spoke about computers, IP addresses and domains. He might as well have been speaking French to her, but she sat nodding whenever he spoke about it. Technology obviously made him happy. She had a smartphone, but she wasn’t exactly one of those people chasing the brand new model. She was a classic ‘So long as it makes calls I’m happy’ kinda girl. Lex couldn’t process that mindset and constantly made fun of her. Whether it be her phone that was a million years old or her van that was falling apart but she couldn’t bring herself to part with it. Growing up as the poor kid in school helped her grow a thick skin, so most of Lex’s comments rolled off her with ease. She wondered how long it would be before she started developing itchy feet though. Winter didn’t enjoy staying in the same place for too long. She was a loner who had no interest in developing meaningful connections with other people. Deep down her theory was if she carried on travelling then it would be her own choice to have nowhere to call him rather than having to face the worry that she didn’t belong anywhere. Even in her childhood city she didn’t feel like she truly belonged. Just waiting for the day where she could finally ditch everything and run. Her dad’s death brought that day round quicker than she expected. She shed a tear, grabbed her belongings and left before the ambulance even arrived. She didn’t even look back at her dad’s body before she slammed the door shut. At least the motel they were staying at was nice. It had been so long since Winter had slept in a normal bed rather than the mattress in the back of her van. She didn’t tell Lex, but it was nice to settle into a bed with fresh bedding. He was paying for the rooms, for now, but Winter needed to source her own income. Rapidly. As much as it pained her to admit it, her days with the fair were behind her now. She needed to find something else to do with her life rather than reading people’s futures using her little crystal ball, but unfortunately, she lacked any real qualifications. She just about made it at school with no real chance of making it to college. She didn’t have supportive parents who pushed her to do better with her life. Rather she had a dad who was deep into addiction and his party friends. She was left to her own devices. Armed with another stack of resumes she headed out into the town square. This time she’d added a few white lies here and there about her experience in the workplace. Winter’s mind often drifted off, leaving her unaware of her surroundings, until she collided with someone causing her mind to snap back to the present day. She watched as the map drifted away with the wind. “Are you sorry?” Winter frowned for a moment. “Um…” The boy spoke again, but in a language, she didn’t recognise. She broke into a small smile as he explained that he was sorry. “Oh, no I’m fine! Sorry I was paying zero attention to where I was going.” Her mind was running through a million things she needed to do. “Are you lost? Y’know cause of the map.” She pointed towards where the map had just drifted off. ALEX KOVACS

Oh, no I’m fine! Sorry I was paying zero attention to where I was going.
When Alex's eyes first laid on the person that he had bumped into, he was pretty sure that a part of him had stopped functioning. She was beautiful. Her striking eyes were enough to daze him for a few seconds until he realized that he was just staring at her without saying anything back. Alex shook his head with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "I'm okay." He gave a 'thumbs up' to even prove it.
Are you lost? Y’know cause of the map.
Alex's attention momentarily moved to where his map was last seen, not at all surprised when he didn't find it laying there. The wind really chose the most appropriate moment to pick up, huh? Alex supposed that he could always purchase another map elsewhere since the place he picked it from only had that one map left. "No, not lost. Um." Alex's hands animatedly moved as if they would help him find the suitable word faster. It just made him look like an idiot, honestly. "New!" Alex excitedly said when he found the correct word, cringing not long after when he realized that he'd just raised his voice. He looked around him apologetically, bowing his head once or twice in an apologetic manner. "Don't know where good places are." Alex added a moment later with a quick nod of his head following. "Not actually a small town."
Upon realizing that he has yet to introduce himself, he pressed the palm of his hand against his chest. "Alex." He introduced himself with a small smile resting on his lips. "You?"

This guy was such a gentleman. So polite in the way he spoke, with a soft undertone. Either that or she’d spend way too much time with Lex. The snappy moody psychic who she offered her friendship to. Despite his demeanour she had warmed to him over the months, although it wasn’t clear whether he had warmed to her. Still as blunt as the day she met him in the tent at the fair. Well, looking back he was far more abrupt with her back then considering she’d called him out on his fear of frogs and told him snippets of his future. She was grateful no awful images flashed before her eyes when she bumped into the stranger. It was the reason she kept her hands to herself, terrified she was going to foresee someone's death then she'd have to explain what she saw with a high risk of sounding like a lunatic. Winter broke into a warm smile as he stared at her for a moment before confirming he was okay. Her smile extended even further, “Oh good!” She mirrored his thumbs up with a chuckle. “I’m new too!” She exclaimed, with a raise in her voice as well. She was beginning to think Lex had brought her to some small little town where everyone knew everyone. At least that’s what it felt like when she was standing in the queue at the coffee shop and everyone around her was slipping into conversation with ease. It wasn’t like the big cities where it was easy to mingle with everyone. “I’ve only been here a few months, but the Coffee Bean has good coffee and their double chocolate chip muffins are soooo good.” She brought her right hand up to mimic a chef's kiss. “Nice to meet you Alex. I’m Winter… like the season.” Sometimes she felt the need to clarify that the other person hadn’t misheard her when she introduced herself. “What brings you to Mystic Falls then Alex?”ALEX KOVACS

Alex's lips stretched into a soft smile when the other girl seemed happy to know that he was doing okay. She seemed like a really nice person and because of that, he was happy he had bumped into her and not someone else. He had seen their unkindness first hand and he would rather not have a repeat of that. The positive energy emitting from the other made him want to stay and just do nothing other than hear her talk because her voice was also very light and positive. It made him smile. Something about her reminded him of Harmony even though the other wasn't so happy and positive all the time. Maybe it was due to the fact that he carried a soft spot for Harmony that he saw her in everyone he came across. "Nice!" Alex grinned. At least his family weren't the only new ones then. "You like Mystic Falls?" Alex questioned, his curiosity easily detected from miles away.
Alex's lips formed a small 'o' as he listened to the other, piecing the words together slowly but surely which explained the late nod of his head. He looked at the gesture that she made by kissing her fingers, or the tips of them and mimicked the gesture, finding himself chuckling too. "I like that. I want to try. Eat with me?" Alex made the broken offer to have the double chocolate chip muffins with the other. He wanted to get to know her some more. She seemed like a really nice person, too.
"Pretty name! I like winter. Favorite season." Alex revealed with a beaming grin locked on his lips. "Your eyes—" Alex paused for a moment, his eyes fixed on hers. "Are pretty too. Like the sky." Came his next compliment, his grin fading into a gentle smile. They reminded him so much of the sky in the early morning where there are no clouds in sight. "Oh! I came to look for my brother." Alex revealed with a quick nod of his head which was something he did too quickly as a strand of hair flew into his line of his vision, making him reach up to brush it away from his face, blinking a few times to adjust to his line of vision without it. "Found him and now we are staying together." Alex wondered if he was giving the other a headache by talking too much, so he pressed his lips into a thin line to hold back for the time being, but he couldn't keep that up for long. "And you?"

There wasn’t a lot about Mystic Falls that she could dislike. It seemed like one of those perfect little quant towns where people move with their children, wanting to find somewhere peaceful to bring their children up. It was less chaotic compared to Seattle. The streets weren’t as busy and people didn’t glare at her if she flashed them a warm smile. In her neighborhood in Seattle, she rarely made eye contact with anyone, knowing it could end in someone pulling a gun on her. Here, everything felt safe. “So far, yes. It's small, but everyone seems super friendly. Do you like it here?”A boy she literally just met on the streets a few seconds ago was asking her to the Coffee Bean for a double chocolate chip muffin and naturally, she jumped at the idea. “Sure!” It wasn’t like Winter was too trusting of people, she’d been fucked over far too many times to be that person, but she couldn’t allow herself to believe that everyone in the world was out to get her. Winter broke into a wide smile as Alex announced winter was his favourite, although she couldn’t relate. Winter hated winter. It reminded her of those cold dark days she would spend sitting in her bedroom, wrapping in every single piece of clothing she could find because her dad refused to put the heating on in the house. That cost money. The money he’d rather be spending on alcohol and other things. In the warmer months, she could go to sleep knowing there wasn’t a risk of waking up with frostbite the following morning. She wasn’t about to unload her childhood trauma on Alex though, “I prefer summer, but snow can be pretty unless you gotta get somewhere then it sucks.” The smile remained glued on her face as Alex complimented her eyes. Immediately her face flushed red as she laughed shyly, “Thank you” She tried to act cool and collective, but her reddened cheeks said otherwise. She watched as a curl bounced down into his face, “I came here with my friend. He came looking for someone as well. Some kind of business-related thing.” She said with a shrug. Winter didn’t one hundred percent know exactly why Lex wanted to find this mystery man he was on the hunt for, but she knew better than to ask too many questions of Lex. “I like your hair! It looks very shiny.” The curls bounced slightly as Alex spoke, which she liked. “Let's go grab a muffin.” She gestured at Alex to follow her, heading off toward the Coffee Bean, ready to throw questions at him and show him how good the chocolate chip muffins were.
