Hunters.
He’d have known their stench anywhere, just as sure as they would’ve known his if he’d let that hellish cologne of sulphur and brimstone rise off of his lined skin. Piety and arrogance, boiling out of them, that quick dart of beady eyes in his direction as he’d let the back door of the club slap shut behind him. Azazel had bared his teeth, a friendly enough sneer at the man. A human blue eye winking. ”G’night son.” Glancing back at him as he trailed him down the empty street now, the demon sighed. Truer words had never been spoken.
That first glimpse had left the man turning away from him. He’d half frozen, eyes obviously fixed on the truck parked at the other end of the alleyway. Two other rangy forms were behind the truck’s windscreen, shadows against darker shadows until one of them lit up a lighter. In the golden flare Azazel saw one of them grin. Oh no, however was he was gonna get away?
A work roughened hand clutched at his chest, a mix of anxiety and satisfaction tugging at his features. Shooting the hunter in the alleyway a sideways glance, he began to scuttle away from the club.
It was no wonder they’d congregated there. Even if they had no idea what he really was, or that the basement was run by hellspawn, it should’ve been apparent to anyone with a lick of sense than the club was little more than a neon lit pit for the fouler things in this town to wrestle in. Things manned its bars, worked their way through the crowds like he’d done tonight, picking out their victims. Some had wrapped around those fragile little humans like boa constrictors, others hadn’t waited to squeeze some of the life out of them. They’d whispered in ears, pupils blown wide for more than one reason, dragging their prey out the door for a life threatening rendezvous elsewhere in town.
Azazel glanced at the queue, still trailing towards the corner of the building. Women shivering in thin little dresses in the cold, vanity leaving them almost blue, men looking more fed up than bored. The women would’ve been the draw, their desperation perfuming the crowd and drawing men in. So many losing their minds to the throb of music, sense stripped away by the booze he’d barely touched. Pathetic but not entirely unnecessary. You needed them to slowly lose parts of their soul to this sort of thing if you wanted them to end up downstairs. Like the hunters, all the blood on their hands, supernatural or not, had already damned them.
For the next fifteen minutes he led them on a stroll through town. The fool on foot glancing away every time he looked back to find him a dozen yards behind him. The car tailed more slowly, a flash of rusty metal passing them at junctions like they were circling, just waiting for their prey to stop.
Whistling under his breath, Azazel eventually headed down a street marred with cracked blacktop and dim, flickering street lamps. Warehouses lay clustered at the end of it. Doors half open, revealing, or not, the black spaces beyond. Knowing it would probably leave him approaching with more caution, Azazel slipped through one, wedging the door further open with a shriek. Behind him, in the quiet left starker by the lack of grating metal, he heard the quiet slosh of liquid in a bottle. Ah. Holy Water, time for a little bath they might’ve thought would leave him shrieking and smoking.
The demon stepped aside, clucking his tongue in disappointment. Barely worth his trouble. Even Crowley could deal with these fools. It took two long minutes for the scrape of a boot against the stone apron in front of the door and just two seconds for the scream to go up as he yanked the man inside without laying a hand on him. Power whipped through the air, holding the demon up above him to dance in the moonlight as he tried to escape. ”Anybody ever warn you about doing creepy things, son?” he asked friendly enough. ”You never know who’ll you end up following.” His eyes flashed golden in the dark, snapping towards the doorway as there was another scrape of footsteps. ”Hey, look at that, we’ve got some company. I guess your buddies were braver than I thought. Come on in, don’t be shy…” Azazel shifted, strolling in an arc until he was facing the door and the guest he hadn’t been expecting.

━ rhetoric is the art of ruling the minds of men ━ LAMIA WOULDN’T BE CAUGHT dead... or undead, in one of these modern celebrations. She hosted plenty of her own back when she was Queen (it was her favourite pastime, frankly), except the music they had was uncomparably superior, and they weren’t so… ugh. Gross, peasant-like, irritating━any adjective would do to describe that filth.
It was what she felt on the inside that drew her. The entire reason Lamia had come to this place was to find Lucifer, and she could finally sense something very near. There was always that lingering beneath, an unknown energy that reminded her of Hell, though Lamia wasn’t eager to poke her nose in somewhere so crowded. It wasn’t that she was scared━of course not; she was a Queen, nothing scared her━but perhaps it was better not to cause a further ruckus. That Angel would likely appear again and ruin her night completely.
Lingering across the street, Lamia heavily debated entering this time. The hunters had left her alone for now, but it didn’t erase the sense of them over her shoulder at any moment, and she wondered if she’d be safe in there. Clearly, something like her found solace there, right? It only made sense.
But then it was moving. Lamia’s icy blue eyes jumped to where she found two figures, practically shadows, moving down the street, and she followed. She sought Lucifer and him alone, and she would get to him. He could protect her from the hunters, restore her former glory so all beings could see it━she was sure of it.
Unfortunately, the Devil liked grimey areas unfit for a Queen of her stature. Unfit for the King of Hell, perhaps, but she’d keep her judgement to herself (for now).
She watched them both disappear into a particular structure, her pace increasing, hurried and excited after feeling the power burst out. It ran over her body in a shiver, drawing her in like a freshwater stream in the desert. He was doing something… and it was marvellous. Lamia practically purred in her throat as she moved along the sidewalk, skipping over deep cracks in the asphalt with her dress balled in her fists and raised above her ankles.
‘Come on in, don’t be shy…’
“I am anything but shy.” Slipping through the doors (careful not to touch anything) with her statement, Lamia moved a few steps in and dropped her dress, standing directly in front of… oh, was this him? Alright, alright, she still kept a lid on her judgement. She just expected him to be… more handsome, maybe. Curiosity bled away from her features, replaced with a smile━as friendly as a great white to unsuspecting swimmers.
“I would say it is a pleasure to meet you; however, we know the pleasure is all yours.” She hummed lightly, flicking a perfect strand of blonde hair behind her shoulder and lifting her chin. The same hand stretched out, laying gently on his arm. “Are you having a bit of fun with him? Would you like some company?” Lamia turned to the man dangling in the air, who undoubtedly had no idea what she was saying, and narrowed her eyes, recognizing him from the day she’d accidentally taken refuge in the Angel’s workplace.
“Filth.” She hissed, “I know this one. He deserves to suffer.”

It had been the Winchesters who’d marked this town for destruction – Sodom and Gomorrah were gonna look like picnics in comparison when Lucifer was done with the things here – but they have shrugged the suggestion off. They had nothing to do with the fact that Hell still walked the earth here, honestly your honour, the Winchesters were merely pawns. It was enough to make a demon laugh. The Winchesters might have believed that they had no control over any of this but there’d been plenty of mistakes on their part that had cost them and the people around them. It always would because family came first. For all of them.
Whether hellspawn had drifted here because of the supernatural population of because of fools like the Winchesters was still to be seen but the town was as thick with demons as fleas on a mangy dogs back. Oozing out of the shadows or hiding in them, giving allegiance to the father they’d all but forsaken while he’d been in his cage or hiding from him. Eventually, Azazel thought gleefully as he strung the hunter up with invisible wires in he air, they would all be forced out into the open and men like the hunter would flee, screaming, those left behind begging for their lives like this fool did now.
The blubbing sounds only increased as the figure slipped into the doorway, tears rolling like mercury down the man’s face to drip onto the sooty ground below. Pathetic, really. Azazel shot him a disapproving look before he looked back at the blonde. The hunter wasn’t out of place here in the ruined building but oh, she would’ve been at first glance.
Azazel’s mouth kicked up at one corner as he offered her a little bow that might’ve looked mocking to anybody else. He straightened up, eyes glowing with an inner amusement. The demon grinned, studying her. The scent was unmistakable. ”I can see that,” he crooned. ”If I’d known we were getting company I’d have cleaned up a little.” Work roughened fingers smoothed over the front of the denim shirt, tugging the canvas jacket into place. A glance up at the rafters of the place had the hunter stretched out too, the man yelping. The meagre light glimmered in his wide eyes.
The golden eyes seemed to have given her no clue as to his real identity. Well – Azazel hummed before letting out a sigh – all that time in the empty would do that for you. Erasing you from demon memory as easily as an eraser on a chalkboard. ”Enchanté,” Azazel crooned, his fingers patting her arm lightly. As though this were some picnic, a happy little soiree somewhere that wasn’t knee deep in filth.
Grin growing as the hunter began to writhe again, Azazel curled his fingers over the demon’s in a soothing gesture. His grin grew brittle for a moment, another yank of power forcing the man to bow back suddenly. ”We were just getting to know one another. He seemed rather interested in what I was up to. I thought I’d show him who I really was. I’m sure he’d enjoy getting to know such a beautiful young woman too. Wouldn’t you my friend?” The amber eyes snapped back down to the demon as she hissed, brows hitching above them. ”So you have met? I suppose I wasn’t the only one he decided to follow home.” Slowly, like a child reeling in a kite, Azazel began to draw the hunter back down towards them. ”Are you acquainted with his friends too? I’m sure they’re lurking just outside. How about they all offer up an apology?” He yanked again, saw the man’s eyes wheeling like a spooked horse, looking everywhere but at the woman. Oh, he knew her and he knew what was coming.

━ rhetoric is the art of ruling the minds of men ━ AT LEAST HE NOTICED that he wasn’t exactly what she would’ve expected. A little grimy, rough around the edges, but still a beacon of pure evil in this shithole. Lamia shook a few perfect, golden curls behind her shoulder and tipped up her chin, showing off her glimmering white teeth. “No matter, I’m happy to be in the presence of a being such as yourself… even if he is looking a little worse for wear,” She laughed softly, like a snake would if they could laugh, clearly hiding her insult under a thin veneer.
‘Enchanté,’
Her perfectly-trimmed brows came together, wondering why she couldn’t understand what that ugly sound was. It didn’t sound like anything she’d heard the humans in town say, but he seemed to mean it kindly, and Lamia wouldn’t point out her confusion. Smoothing out her expression, she simply nodded and turned to the hunter, resting easily against her Father’s side.
It was almost complimentary that he’d chosen to hunt Lucifer as well as herself. Lamia was happy about it now, but only because she’d see him suffer. She hoped to be coated in his blood and then perhaps find her Angel again later, showing him her crimson hands as if he were a bull. That might not be the smartest idea, however, considering that pesky blade he had in his possession. But with the Devil himself by her side? Oh, she’d be unstoppable.
Hm… Lamia wondered if he needed a Queen. Every good kingdom did, and she was perfect for the job in every way. Perhaps she’d impress him tonight.
She’d start with the other hunters. “His friends… only momentarily. I’d love to see them again,” Not without her spectacular back-up, of course━it was terrifying the first time. Lamia stepped lightly towards the door she’d appeared from, calling to the rest of the hunters, though they likely wouldn’t understand a word she said. “Come inside, pitiful warriors! The One In Charge demands you offer me an apology!”
The boys came charging in with a loyalty Lamia had to admire━just a pity it wasn’t for her. She opened her mouth to snap something at them, likely an insult or a boasting of who she had on her team this time, but her tongue was nearly burned from her body with that awful spray again. It seared her flesh, making Lamia scream with a pitch and volume that surely rivalled the floating hunter’s.
Her first reaction was to bring her hands to her face, shielding anybody else from seeing the burns. It should’ve been to lay out the mob of angry men, but she called to her companion for that. He had to help, didn’t he? “You vile beings are beneath me! How dare you!” Lamia screamed, peering between her fingers at the Devil just as the hunters neared with another one of those fancy, powerful blades. “O Great Tempter, control these wretched things!”

He wasn’t Crowley. The rule of the yellow-eyed demon had never been about adoration from the demon rank and file. Azazel had spent millennia ruling through fear, the violence slash of an iron hand, a full on no tolerance approach even when they would fall to their knees and beg for forgiveness – as though a little penance was going to do anything to change the past. Bah. His ego didn’t swell within his chest at the slightest compliment, he didn’t pat demons on the head with the shoe licking he got. Some part of him perked at the demon’s words though.
Azazel’s teeth flashed back at her. She was obviously a being who reeked of sin. Pride in the flash of golden curls that reflected in the light, a silvered tongue just as bright. She hadn’t refuted his comment but it didn’t matter. By the time they were done here even the hardiest stomachs would rebel. ”Oh, just wait, it’s only gonna get better. We won’t let him disappoint.” Pieces would be all that were left, the power that ran in his veins slowly dismantling everything that would have been brought to bear against a lesser being tonight, another hunter crushed like the cockroach their kind were behind the toe of … a fancy shoe. Yellow eyes dipped at that, raking back up just in time to catch the pucker of the demon’s brows at his crooned word.
Maybe not the sharpest tool in the box then.
That delicate form eased into him, like a trophy wife, ready to drape herself over the ugly thing they’d caught for themselves because it had all those hidden gems. Maybe not the dullest either. He dropped his work worn fingers away from her arm, giving a light pat of approval as he did so. He’d have twisted the hunter the other way, had him bowing to her but it was far more satisfying to hear vertebrae popping like corn, musical little snaps that wrung whimpers out of him. It was a shame it hadn’t been a siren’s call to have his buddies rushing in but it would do.
The question of whether the demon had met them on the way in wrung out an answer that was music to his own ears. Humming in approval, Azazel twisted on the spot as the demon stepped back. The grin turned into low laughter, yellow eyes turning up towards the hunter. ”I’d say you’ve dropped the ball too many times tonight, friend. It’s gonna cost you.” Greying brows hitched at the ancient language that trilled out to the men wondering whether confusion would leave them hunkered down outside but it seemed as though what was said didn’t matter half as much as the fact that they’d been spoken to.
Shit.
Taunting got you only so far before humanity tried to stick two fingers up to their betters, fighting against the crushing boot of thousands of years of their mistakes. This time it rose in a spray of holy water, filling the air with the demon’s shrieks instead of the hunters’. She raised her hands to her face, the shrieks rolling from her with just enough arrogance to show why the creature had ended up down below. ”Your wish is my command, honey,” Azazel said coldly. ”And there I was thinking we’d be having a friendly little talk boys. I think you need to get down on your knees to make things up to her.” With his teeth bared in less than friendliness now Azazel yanked the body from the air like a string was tied from the hunter’s neck to his hand. With stunning ferocity the man crashed into the other two. ”Get the blade,” he called to the demon as it rattled across the floor. ”We’re gonna give these boys a taste of their own medicine.” It was gonna go down their throats bitter and bloody.

━ rhetoric is the art of ruling the minds of men ━ THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO be Lamia’s moment for revenge. Instead, the so-called warriors turned, somehow gaining the upper hand and looking to burn her from the inside out━starting with her tongue. She thrashed out her arms and cried, desperate for Lucifer’s help, calling him by a name she thought he would find complimentary. He couldn’t let his demons experience this, could he? Surely not her, as she was undoubtedly the most beautiful in existence. She was valuable if only for that reason alone!
‘Your wish is my command, honey,’
Immediately, Lamia grew calmer, and within seconds he was taking care of the problem. Just like in a game of Ninepins, the men went tumbling along the floor as the ball━their other friend━came crashing into them. Lamia’s arms jumped into the air excitedly, declaring her victory━as if she’d done anything other than stand there and shriek. “You are no match for the power of such beings, and now your stupidity will cost you your lives!”
Because of her good mood━and perhaps his willingness to help━Lamia didn’t hesitate to jump to Lucifer’s request (she’d pretend it was that and not a command). With quick, level strides, Lamia practically danced along the floor, scooped up the blade and then cavorted back to him, lifting the knife above her head as though it was a trophy. And to her, it was━the Angel attempted to use it on her before, and now she had her own to wield. “Never again will you use a weapon such as this!” Lamia declared, and in one swift motion, she drew the blade down and across the throat of one of the men. Rubies spilled from him and onto the floor, coating the soles of her thin shoes. Her free hand pulled up the bottom of her dress, but Lamia practically pranced in the stains beginning to pool around her, looking as though she was completing a kind of ritual with the blade, the blood, and the dance.
Facing him at the end of a complete turn, Lamia pointed the sharp end of the blade toward her creator, getting it as near as possible before she laughed and opened her palm in offering. “Would you like a turn, my King? Or… would you prefer to be called by your true name, Lucifer? Perhaps Satan?” Lamia batted her lashes, still buttering up who she thought was in charge.

It took all of a handful of seconds for the hunters to turn on the demon. The water that would’ve dripped from his own face like rain seared and sizzled. Blessings of the hypocrite himself turning it to acid for his kind. Azazel made a small sound, turning his head away from the shrieks and the smoke, waving it away with one hand in distaste. In her pain the demon called for him, pr, rather, for his father. Great Tempter might have been a fit for his own activities not so long ago. Talking women into allowing him just a small window of opportunity with their offspring – his own blessings given freely, for theirs. Sam Winchester would’ve argued against the title, but his own mother had damned him.
Had it been the Winchesters here the blast of holy water would have been followed up with a demon blade between her ribs. There would not have been time for her to scream, or for him to chide the hunters. The Winchesters were smarter.
As he stalked closer, yanking the body of the first hunter along with him like a child with a balloon the demon stopped her shrieking. Yellow eyes cut to her as the first hunter slammed into the others, a handy battering ram to knock them all down. Like – what was it they had sung during the black death – a tissue, a tissue, we all fall down. Only the plague this time was seemingly in human form, seemingly. The demon threw her arms up in celebration before she crowed. ”They were never going to make it out of here. It was just a matter of when they decided to come looking for their pal.” If they’d run like those plague carrying rats it would have merely dragged the game out. In the end they all died, for some it was just more peaceful than they deserved.
The demon in her dress obeyed his orders at least, aware enough of the power he held not to hesitate. Azazel pinned them like butterflies to the concrete as she cavorted back to him, the blade held aloft. ”I’d listen to the lady if I were you,” Azazel crooned. ”You’re lucky it’s her with it.” His own fun would’ve lasted long into the night. Like a troubled child he would’ve plucked the hunters apart a piece at a time until the reapers swung in and whatever was left of them was carried downstairs, where they would undoubtedly meet again. Creatures such as these were never half as righteous as they believed. There was blood on their hands and that would be their damnation.
Blood jetted forth, staining the concrete floor as the demon plucked up her dress to dance in the mess. Greying brows rose, but the yellow eyed demons teeth gleamed in the grin as she did so. One who revelled in such murderous acts, there were not enough of them left anymore. Azazel spread his hands slightly as she whirled to face him, the wicked end of the blade aimed in his direction. ”I just might. Lucifer?” The name tripped out in a shocked bark of laughter. He had believed her somewhat capable at least, but now he was cackling with laughter.
Azazel took the blade, spinning it around so that the ruby tip was pointed in the demon’s direction, although not exactly aimed at her to pierce that dress she wore. ”I do believe you’ve mistaken me for my father, honey. Lucifer walks the earth again, but he wouldn’t waste his time here on them. They would already have been dead if he were here.” Like the men were now as he sent the blade tumbling through the air like an arrow. One chest, then another, unerringly finding their hearts to put the foul creatures out of their misery. ”Is your belief in him strong, demon? Are you still loyal to your father?” His voice had gone quiet. The question should’ve been a simple one to answer given her praise – albeit it misaimed – already.

━ rhetoric is the art of ruling the minds of men ━ LAMIA WAS MANY THINGS (PERFECT, BEAUTIFUL, amazing, every person’s unattainable dream), but she was not stupid, nor was she ever wrong. It seemed, though, that she’d… gotten a little confused. While chasing Lucifer’s mighty power to this town, she’d happened across a demon who appeared to be just as powerful, but in fact had tricked her. Ah, yes, that’s what it was━a trick. A game, pretending to be their leader, though he wasn’t nearly the same. Lamia felt deceived, and though that would’ve excited her under any normal circumstances, she was covering up the fact that she’d been wrong.
Furrowing her perfect brows at him, Lamia knew that even this face━blanketed with confusion━was beautiful. She’d stared at her reflection enough to be sure of it. Her teeth clenched together, jarred from his laughter, though she didn’t speak quite yet. He took the knife and played the same game she had, but this left Lamia frowning, narrowing her eyes. She wouldn’t be mocked by the likes of him, close to Lucifer or not.
“Do not dare to laugh at my expense.” Lamia hissed, both hands fisted in her dress, knuckles white around the fabric. “I do not believe you.” She puffed, unwilling to accept that the Devil himself wouldn’t revel in the torture of these men. Thankfully, the knife zipped through the air━not at her━and removed the hunters from this plane. It was much faster than they deserved, but Lamia’s focus quickly shifted elsewhere. Just another thing to pout over.
Still holding her dress, Lamia stepped out of the pool even as it snaked closer, and walked to the yellow-eyed demon’s side, studying him closely. “Of course. I came to this wretched town to find him, and yet all I can seem to unearth are poor copycats. Who are you, demon?” She called him by the same nameless title, suddenly aware that this spirit was below her (like everyone else). Perhaps that was most embarrassing: she’d given him a lot more respect than he deserved. “And why do you pose as him?” Pose, as though she hadn’t made the error all by herself. Lamia took another step closer, glaring into those yellow eyes with her own blackened ones. “Do you work closely with our father? Do you know his whereabouts?” And could he take her to him? This could all be forgiven if so.

A few millennia of torture downstairs might blacken a soul beyond the point of redemption but it wouldn’t gift the empty headed with the brains they’d been missing in the first place. This demon – pretty on the surface and exceedingly vacant – had felt a shiver of power and had automatically latched onto the notion that they had found the one, their father. As though Lucifer would be here, wrist deep in the human grime in this town, seemingly outsmarted by a trio of hunters with less going on upstairs than the demon herself. Fool. Azazel’s laughter rolled away into a grin that left his teeth bared and gleaming in the dim light of the warehouse.
So many souls went through that torture in Hell, gathered in their scores, left in the hands of creatures that had once been just like them. Some never ventured among humanity again. They spent their eternity down in those fires, each day the same agonising cycle. It took talent to get here, and more importantly, to stay here.
The yellow eyes grew heavy lidded as he studied her from the corner of his eye. She was watching him, sizing him up like he was the imposter. Spending years searching for a way to free Lucifer from the cage had left him disconnected from all but the most loyal – or disloyal. The Winchesters had cut him off entirely with what was supposed to be a one way trip to the Empty, but they had been wrong in the belief that they’d gotten rid of him for good. Just as this demon had been mistaken now.
Greying brows hitched at her, those yellow eyes blandly watching the tension roll through her. She had a demon’s vanity at least, those pesky sins never burned away the way the rest of their humanity was. ”No?” he asked lightly, amusement still in his tone. ”You’re pretty demanding for someone in the presence of real power.” If she had a clue who he had once been she’d have dirtied that dress she wore throwing herself prostrate at his feet instead of huffing and puffing at him imperiously, like she was the royalty here. ”For someone who doesn’t seem to know much about just where they came from, I’m not sure I’d trust what you believe.” Using the blade, Azazel gestured at his eyes – only a handful of yellow eyed demons had ever been created, he was the last left – a quick demonstration of what she should’ve been looking at.
What might’ve been drawn out if he’d been in the mood for it was over and done with quickly in the end. Blood dripping like rain to the cracked concrete before the blade found its way back to his hand. Azazel shook it off, bent to swipe the blade against the leg of one of the men before he stood and questioned the demon’s loyalty with that same deceptive bland look on his face. ”A poor copycat powerful enough for you to think you’d found him. Doesn’t sound so wretched to me.” Although he’d agree with her about the state of the town. The only vague entertainment here was the hunter whack-a-mole and the Winchesters. Even the hunt for Crowley had dried and shrivelled up, no joy found in kicking over the same rocks time and time again.
Irritation sparked faintly under his skin but Azazel aimed that same sneering grin at her. He bent at the waist, a quick, mocking bow that surely wasn’t the first she’d received. ”Azazel,” he said coldly. ”Prince of Hell, former King, although it seems as though all that you should know of that has dripped from your ears.” Teeth gritted, Azazel tilted his head and took a slow step towards her. ”Did I say a word to of being our father, or was it all in your head, honey?” That head empty except for the hot air she was pumping out in those huffy little breaths. She was closer now, her black eyes tilted up to meet his with all that hellfire in them. ”You want to fall at Lucifer’s feet? Be a loyal little demon for him? What would you do if I said he was here in this town, gathering demons just like you to his side?” For a war that didn’t seem as though it was going to happen – at least not while they were sat around twiddling their thumbs, waiting for Heaven to show its hand.

━ rhetoric is the art of ruling the minds of men ━ DEMANDING? REAL POWER? HE WAS IN FOR a rude awakening if he thought that was demanding. Lamia could be so much worse━would be so much worse━if he continued to aggravate her and refuse to tell her what he knew.
His yellow eyes━those strange, ugly things━made him different from all the rest. Lamia had assumed that was because he was the Devil, and that would make sense, wouldn’t it? But no, he was something special, just not the kind of special she’d hoped.
‘A poor copycat powerful enough for you to think you’d found him.’
Well, he had a point. Lamia wouldn’t let him know that, though. This one was clearly something of importance, and perhaps she needed to be kinder to him, but she was a demon. What did he expect? Closer now, she made a sharp ‘hmph’ sound and turned her chin away, too proud to acknowledge that perhaps he was right. “Well, it is.” She argued like a child, upset with how wretched this entire situation was.
The words Prince and King caught her attention again. Former, but the title still stuck. Some would’ve referred to her as a ‘former’ Queen, but she wasn’t. He bowed, though, and that was enough to have Lamia’s cool gaze flip back to him━Azazel. She knew the name, though she hadn’t been in Hell long enough to become aware of the politics. “I was not provided knowledge on Hell’s gossip, pardon my ignorance.” Lamia spoke sarcastically, snorting at him, irritated that he questioned her intelligence. “I assume that, if it was important, I would’ve been made aware.” She added, hands dropping to her hips as he neared.
Azazel tossed the blame at her, carting it back and forth as though this was a game. “It was not. You appeared to be the same, and you have done it on purpose with the way you toss around the word ‘King.’ A former King is not one at all. I am a Queen, and will always be regarded as such.” She nodded sharply, attempting to drive the point home.
“I will not fall at the feet of anyone.” Lamia muttered, still trying to hold on to a scrap of dignity. She swiped at her dress as if tidying herself, though there wasn’t much to clean in the way of dirt━blood splatters were another story. “Well, I would simply employ you to introduce us. Every King needs a Queen, after all.” Lamia grinned proudly, “Take me to him, Azazel,” She held out her hand delicately for his, “I demand his company. I have sought our father for quite some time with no luck, and I wish to end my suffering in his absence.” Though his behaviour hadn’t been interested in heeding her commands thus far, Lamia still expected him to oblige━to listen as though he was suddenly her servant. They all were, weren’t they? Even Lucifer himself would be delighted to make her acquaintance.

He might’ve had the eyes that practically reflected the fires of hell, but Azazel imagined if he shuffled close, he’d see those sparks fizzing up in the lesser demon’s eyes now. She reeked of pride so strong it could’ve called the Sin here. The hunters had undoubtedly felt it radiating from her and would’ve loved to snuff it out – if he hadn’t given her the chance to do it first. Now there was some sort of debt there, even if she wasn’t capable of seeing it yet. Little markers the yellow eyed demon had always been happy to collect, and call in when the opportunity arose.
There would be another sputter if he did, like the sharp little sound that rolled out of her at his faintly mocking tone – alright, maybe there wasn’t so much faint about it. Azazel clucked his tongue lightly, grinning as he reached up to chuck her under her chin. He made a low sound of sympathy, although there was still that edge to it like the amusement would turn to all out laughter at any moment. ”Not if that poor copycat could get you exactly what your greedy little heart desires,” he reminded her. If she played her cards right. With the spoilt child attitude there was a chance she wouldn’t get that far. He could leave her to the hunters, the ones that’d swarm around this stinking pile of hunter filth like flies.
Like she would swarm to him.
Azazel hadn’t been sure, but he knew if he sweetened his own sulphurous stench just enough, she’d come sniffing around it. Eager as a pig in mud – or a demon with delusions of grandeur in a regal dress. Those amber eyes fixed on her as he straightened up, his grin brightening them as her gaze met his. Keener, now, huh? Despite the sarcasm as she snorted at him. Not pardoned. He sneered back, his teeth revealed in that twisted grin. ”Because they’d make sure to deliver the really important stuff to you honey.” Like she was the one on the throne, with acolytes dropping prostrate at her toes, feeding her little morsels of the gossip she should’ve been grubbing in the depths of hell for.
Whatever she’d been sneering at hadn’t been anything close to hell. It didn’t take a keen set of ears to tune in the fact that the place had changed hands multiple times in the last few millennia. Lucifer to his Princes. The best – and last of them still with their hands thrust deep into the cess pit of hell – replaced eventually by the worst. A red eyed upstart taking advantage of the Winchesters’ luck. Azazel whistled lightly, spreading his hands through the air as though inviting her to offer up proof. ”You would have said our Father wasn’t one when he was locked in that cage?” He’d have tossed her to the empty for that once upon a time. ”Where’s your land, honey? It takes a kingdom to be a ruler, does it not?” A touch less mocking to his question. Why lay it on when your query was going to cut them off at their bony knees anyway?
Your loss. The imperious words were going to choke her in the end. Dignity giving way to regret. Azazel started to circle around her, humming lightly as he looked down at the garment she was making some attempt at saving. A pauper’s rags now, more fitting to the situation she’d suddenly found herself in. One greying brow rose at her. ”Not even our father? You were pretty hot on him not a couple of minutes ago.” And then she’d had her ass chapped at the idea that she hadn’t recognised that pain when a watered down version of it was right under her nose. Laughter rolled out as he looked down at that hand offered to him and then back up. ”You think he’ll take one look at you and put you up on his throne?” Just as the witch had believed. As though Lucifer was desperate for a companion.
Going to step past her, Azazel reached up and patted one of those flushed cheeks. A yellow eye winked at her, that laughter rumbling in his chest. ”Just you wait honey. Keep this up and he’ll gladly put an end to it. You stick around, you hear? We’ll be in touch.” Like this had been a job interview that somehow she’d scraped the bar for. A very low bar given the current circumstances. Beggars couldn’t be choosers, even if it might mean offering up a lie or two to have those black eyed turn coats flooding back to his father’s side.

━ rhetoric is the art of ruling the minds of men ━ LAMIA WASN’T INTERESTED IN THE CHILDISH back and forth this yellow-eyed demon tattered on about. It was not due to her embarrassment, of course. Lamia would have never been so foolish as to mistake someone for the Devil himself━she was merely playing. That was all. And it was his fault for appearing in such a way! She’d continue to tell herself the same excuses, though one worked against the other.
“It is nowhere near this filth I was called to for him!” Lamia snapped, irritated by his demand for proof of her title. Shouldn’t he simply know who she was? “It is beautiful and vast, between the Mare Nostrum and the Pontos Axeinos. My son was the heir after my untimely passing. However, it is still mine. It will always be mine.” She smiled coldly at the demon, daring him to claim differently.
Lamia had her sights set on a throne far greater, though, and demanded Azazel take her to the man who could ensure this.
‘You think he’ll take one look at you and put you up on his throne?’
“Yes.” She replied simply and without hesitation. The proud grin remained on her perfect lips, her hand extended, waiting for his. Azazel didn’t do as he was told, however, and instead stepped past Lamia. He patted her cheek, and she flinched away, pointing a scowl in his direction. How dare he? How insulting!
“I cannot believe you present yourself as our Father’s closest ally and yet you force me to remain here! Waiting!” Lamia shouted, grabbing the edges of her dress. She yanked it up in a huff, shaking her head wildly. “My loyalty ought to be rewarded!” She left in a huff, cursing the very man she’d come here to find. Though, Lamia supposed that his delay made sense━it would only prove to make his demons impatient and unruly, just as they were supposed to be.
