Of course, she was a pirate. That was pretty much set in stone for her since she lost her eye, something which she was happy to play for occasions like this. For one night, she had the opportunity to blend it with everyone else, instead of being the girl with the eye patch grooving on the dancefloor. The odd one out, sometimes met with questions of ‘what happened?’, people immediately accept that someone wouldn't want to walk around with an eye patch on voluntarily. There had to be something wrong with her. Then there were others who would stare, but act like they’re not, which she didn’t mind as much. It was natural to be drawn to someone or something that didn’t fit in with normal society. Nonetheless, the eyepatch made her different. It made her stand out against the seas of girls who were on the dance floor. An asian pirate chick as Kit once put it. Kitty didn’t have to dig too far into her wardrobe for her outfit choice, managing to find enough to throw together a half decent outfit. Halloween wasn’t the only reason she was bouncing with excitement for the upcoming night. It was Krista’s birthday in a few days and she’d never been to the Ruby Slipper before. There was so much adrenaline pumping through her body that she’d barely shut up about their upcoming evening all day. Above it all though she was just pumped to finally click with another girl and have a new best friend in her life. To make everything even better Krista was her dorm mate as well. It was a relief to share a room with someone she got along with, instead of the weird recluse who apparently lived there prior to Kitty. Krista was the perfect dorm mate too and some evenings she wasn’t even there giving Kitty the opportunity to unwind alone and binge watch Netflix whilst her dorm mate was otherwise engaged with the older man she met, but Kitty was yet to meet the mysterious man himself. The pair weaved through the streets of Mystic Falls, heading straight for the club, talking about everything and anything that came to mind. This is what she loved about Krista, there was never an awkward silence lingering in the air between them and they constantly bounced off one another. The conversation never ran dry, as though they had a million topics to cover from childhood, to school, to boys, to music. Krista was one of those people who Kitty never grew bored of, bouncing up out of her bed every time the dorm room opened to find her friend on the other side. A low groan escaped Kitty’s mouth as she drew closer to the club to see the line of people waiting to get in. The few drinks she had before leaving campus would help to keep her warm for now. “It’s a good job I packed this…” She pulled a flask from the bag that was swinging from her right shoulder, “Is your boyfriend out tonight then?” She took a swig of the bottle, before offering it to Krista, a cheeky grin on her face. ━ i can't get you out of my head ━ KRISTA REALLY LOVED MYSTIC Falls. She was enrolled in college now, she’d finally started to speak to her parents again (a little bit at a time), and Mal was… well, self-explanatory. Gosh, she liked him so, so much, even if Mystic Falls hadn’t panned out with Whitmore and everything, she’d probably stay just for him. Sometimes she felt like they were connected now, too. Like that whole thing in Church about drinking the wine (okay, usually it was grape juice) and eating the bread and, like, taking Jesus into you… yeah, that was like her and Mal. Obviously, that would make her Jesus, and she knew that wasn’t the kind of comparison a good Christian should make, but it was kinda the same thing. Mal was consuming part of her, and she… she took him into her body, too. The thought had her blushing. She really hoped he’d be there tonight, and she felt like he would be. Whether that was wishful thinking or them actually being connected, she didn’t know, but she was buzzing with excitement nonetheless.
The pre-drinking helped, too. Her stomach felt all warm and fuzzy, like when Mal was looking at her, and she wondered if it’d change the taste of her blood. ‘Boozy enough to rot your gut out on second-hand liquor’ … he’d said it himself. Now she started to worry about seeing him.
That, however, didn’t change Krista’s willingness to chatter with Kitty the whole way to the club or grab the flask when it was offered. This was her first real kind of party ever, her first trip to a club and night out, first time drinking like this. So… maybe Mal could give her a bit of a pass━if he even showed up. (She was still hoping for it.)
Her hazel eyes darted around them quickly, trying to see if they were in direct view of the bouncer or if anyone was really paying attention. Feeling like some sort of secret badass, Krista tipped her head back and took a big gulp of the liquor, face scrunching up as she did. It never seemed to get easier━even with all the drinks she’d already had that night. “Ooooooh,” Krista stamped her feet and shook her head, then handed back the flask. “Gosh, that stuff’s somethin’ else.” Her upbringing halted any language that might’ve been more colourful, though overindulging in alcohol was probably a lot worse than cursing.
Boyfriend. It was a bit of a stretch, and sometimes Krista felt guilty when Kitty referred to him like that, but Krista figured they’d get there one way or another, so it didn’t really matter. Plus, she liked thinking about Mal as her boyfriend. It made her heart swell, and she was usually already thinking about him all the time anyway, so she took any chance she could get to spill.
“Ummmm…” Krista beamed, finally getting through her sip from the flask and focusing on Kitty’s previous question. “I hope so. I dunno, I didn’t ask him. I don’t really think he likes parties and stuff that much, y’know? ‘Cause he’s, like, older and more mature, so he’s already done all that. He likes hangin’ out in bars more.” She knew bragging was just about one of the worst things she could do, but Krista couldn’t help herself. And she was still teetering the line between saying too much and not enough, desperate to keep this all believable. She didn’t see it as lying, really, just bending the truth. And she wouldn’t do it for any other reason, just him… or any other thing she’d ever become fixated on in her life.
Another group of people were let in, and Krista watched the front rather impatiently, wondering when the bouncer would cut it off. She headed forward with Kitty, so sure it would be just their luck to have to wait right at the door, but she was beaming at the man when she realized he was gonna let them in. “Thank you!” Krista chimed politely, nudging Kitty before linking their arms and flooding in together. Her gaze dipped over the crowd first, desperately beginning her fruitless search. And, when she couldn’t find him, Krista turned her smile back on Kitty.
“What ‘bout you?” She called over the music, “You gonna find some guy tonight? Do I needa find somewhere else to sleep?” Krista giggled, teasing Kitty, though she hoped her roomie would find whatever she was looking for tonight━that they’d both have tons of fun.

As a child, she would be eagerly bouncing out the door with her sisters and grandmother in tow. All night she’d have to listen to grandmother talk about how Halloween wasn’t even a real holiday. In her younger days, they had Hyakki Yagyo. ‘Now that was a real holiday’ her grandmother would mutter as they went house to house, the girls shaking their bucket of candy with each step, though they were only allowed a few pieces at once. Apparently it wasn’t good to eat candy before bed and your mouth would be full of cavities when you woke up. At least that’s what Hina told the girls when stashing their buckets on the highest shelf in the kitchen cupboard. However, their candy did last them for months after Halloween, unless one of the girls clambered onto the kitchen counter whilst their grandmother was watching TV. Kitty would usually be on lookout whilst Emica and Risa quickly grabbed a few pieces. Their grandmother was none the wiser as the TV blared out in the living room with some trashy American game show. Those shows were always Hina’s weak spot. Hina had settled into the western world by the time her grandchildren were born, but there were still traditions she couldn’t shake. Such as bowing when she met someone, which was fine until Kitty took her grandmother to parents’ evening and she proceeded to bow at every single teacher she met. If only the ground could have opened and swallowed Kitty whole at that moment. The mere thought of going out clubbing had her grandmother baffled. Why would a person choose to pay money to have their ears blasted with average music? Nonetheless, she would tell Kitty to have a good night and stay safe (of course). Sometimes she kept her promise. Other times she would drink enough to give a normal person alcohol poisoning. Oh well, it wasn’t as if her liver couldn’t heal itself in minutes as the liquid burned in her stomach. It was something to keep her warm as well as the pair queued. Kitty eyed her coat before she left the dorm, but it would ruin her whole outfit. She chose to look good over keeping herself warm. She handed the flask over to Krista. A hearty laugh rolled from her chest as she watched her friend stamp her feet on the ground as she swallowed the alcohol. She loved Krista’s clean language, it always had her laughing. Meanwhile, she was dropping words that would make her grandmother’s ears bleed. “Yeah it's straight vodka”[/b] She reached forward taking the flask back. As they were nearing the front she stashed the flask down the front of her top. The bulkiest hidden by her costume. There was no denying the boyfriend comment. Kitty scoffed before laughing, “But bars are so boring. There’s no dancefloor for starters” Exactly how much older was this man?. “Who knows he might have changed his mind last minute and come here” She nodded towards the building as she folded her arms and bounced her body a bit to stay warm. At least the queue was moving. She moved forward as soon as the group in front of them went through the doors. Digging around in her bag she pulled out her sister’s ID. Her throat was itching for that first drink, already thinking about what she was going to have. Tequila? Or maybe keep it classy with gin? She flashed her ID at the bouncer who then ushered them both inside, “Yay” She beamed as she linked up with Krista, as the two headed inside. Kitty’s gaze was on the bar rather than the crowd of people inside. She glanced over at Krista, before shrugging at her question, “Halloween is always tricky. It’s so easy to get fooled by all the makeup and masks, then the next day you wake up to a 2/10” Okay maybe a 2/10 was a bit of an exaggeration, but it all balanced on whether or not her friend’s man was out that evening. The wolf tugged gently at Krista’s arm, “Let’s get a drink!” With a grin on her face she guided the pair towards the bar, joining the back of another queue. It wasn’t long before they reached the front. The bartender’s eyes were on them, awaiting their order. “Can I have…” She drew out the have as she pondered, “Double rum and coke please” She turned to look at her friend, “Gotta keep up the pirate look”KRISTA MAY

━ i can't get you out of my head ━ SAYING ‘DON’T LET ME get my hopes up’ was lost on Krista━too little too late. The mere suggestion━no matter how light or joking on Kitty’s part━that he might be here was enough to send Krista’s mind into an excited flurry. She scouted the outsides of the club and then inside once they were past the doors, almost desperate to find Mal there somewhere. Maybe he would make a shift from the usual rum and coke at Campbell’s and end up here, and though it was unlikely, Krista would wish for it practically all night now.
“I hope so.” Krista giggled, “And I know, like, what’s the point of drinking if you’re not dancing and having fun? But he’s just not like that.” She shrugged, then laughed again, “I mean, he is lots of fun, just not like that. Hey, maybe I can drag him out with us sometime, and you can get him into it just like ya did with me!” Without Kitty, Krista never would’ve even considered some place like this━she would probably still be living life without ever having experienced a party before.
Within the confines of the club, Krista tightened her arm just a little more around Kitty’s and bobbed her head excitedly at the idea of a drink. Again, this wasn’t something she ever would’ve done with her new Mystic Falls Influences, but that’s what was so fun about this place! She wasn’t forced to bend to her parents’ rules anymore; Krista could do whatever she wanted.
Still, she giggled shyly at Kitty’s comment about fretting over something as surface-level as a guy being ugly━some habits she would never outlearn. It felt mean, but Krista tried to wash the guilt away for the sake of having fun tonight. “Yeah, but if you have a good time, then at least you had a good time,” She gave Kitty an over-dramatic wink to get her point across, “Right?” It wasn’t as if Krista had been with anybody but Mal, though, and she considered herself ultra-lucky. Not only was he, like, super handsome, but she’d never had a bad time.
At the bar, though, Krista was just as lost as she regularly was with these things. But as soon as Kitty ordered what Mal usually drank, Krista figured she’d get one of them, too. “Same, please, but just a regular one.” She said politely, wondering if Mal had been a pirate back in the day or something━or maybe he was just old, and rum was an old man’s drink.
“Do only pirates drink rum?” Krista asked before quickly realizing how stupid that sounded. Pirates hadn’t been around for centuries, right? But they still made it, so obviously it wasn’t just for pirates━she was grasping at straws for pieces of Mal. Why didn’t he like her back? Why didn’t boys ever like her? It’s not like she ever told them how she felt on the inside; she’d learned from that mistake early on. “Sorry, uh… just some joke Mal made one time. Never mind.” Krista laughed awkwardly, graciously thanking the bartender when he returned, though he barely spared another glance at the pair before moving on.
Krista sipped her drink, features screwing up at the taste just as they had the first (or second, technically) night she met Mal. It still tasted just as bad, but it was nowhere near as awful as the vodka from Kitty’s flask. The coke dulled the awfulness of straight alcohol, but soda was another thing Krista wasn’t at all used to.
“C’mon, let’s go dance! And we’ll see if we can find you a ten outta ten,” Krista snickered, gulping down more than half of her drink to ensure it wouldn’t spill while they were bouncing around, and then, with that buzzing in her tummy she’d have to get used to, dragged Kitty all the way to the dance floor. There, she found not-so-subtle ways of indicating men to Krista, ranging from head movements to full-on pointing and beaming.

Kitty had never been one of those girls who had a large group of girl mates. Exchanging clothes, swapping shoes and giggling about boys. She didn’t even do that shit with her sisters, though they sometimes did that between themselves. Having older sisters exposed her to a world of make-up, heels and boys long before her peers, but in a good way. She was told what red flags to look out for and to always match her heels and bag. The second part fell on deaf ears, but she kept hold of the first bit of advice. Red flags. One she was carefully looking for in Krista’s new boy (well, man). The only one so far was he was currently drinking in a bar instead of a nightclub and also the pair had yet to meet. Kitty had yet to scope out the man, officially. Now there was an offer to meet the man in question. Kitty grinned, nodding with excitement, “Yes! Next time we go out we could meet him in Campbell's bar, to begin with then we drag him here” Pile the man full of alcohol before dragging him away from his comfort zone. Deep down she was a little nervous to meet Krista’s boyfriend. What if he didn’t like her? What if she didn’t like him? She’d heard stories of girls turning their back on their friends because their boyfriend didn’t approve. No, Krista would never do that to her. The pair were joined at the hip nowadays, apart from when her friend was off kissing her boyfriend. She never really had much to share with her friend about boys, apart from the one night stand here and there. Her love life was pretty dry, but it’s how she wanted it to be for now. Kitty was still ‘finding herself’. She sometimes found herself looking at girls as well. College was about experiencing new things though, that’s how it was advertised to her in the beginning. A real chance to find out who you are. So far Kitty had found out she liked partying and was a terrible cook, along with most of the student population. “It’s all about having a good time” She matched Krista’s over the top wink. “... just a regular one” Kitty smiled to herself, forever enjoying her friend's touch of innocence. Even though she was keen to drag Kirsta out drinking and partying, she didn’t want her friend to lose that part of herself. The sweet pure part. “Um…” Kitty began to think before Krista spoke ago. It was some joke from Mal. “Oooo he has a name” He teased, giving the blonde a small nudge. It was the first time she’d heard his name be uttered. Kitty reached forward, taking her drink with a huge smile plastered across her face. Technically not her first drink of the night, but that first drink in a nightclub always sparked excitement. The unknown about what about the night held for the girls. She laughed, watching Krista’s face screw for the second time that night. “That has mixer as well” She took a sip of her own drink, not expecting the same kickback Krista did. It went down smoothly. She mirrored Krista, taking a large mouthful from her drink, ready to hit up the dance floor. “Ten out tens only tonight please” She responded with a smile, as she willingly allowed herself to be dragged through the crowd by Krista.
