If a good hunter was one who could scare the crap out of you then Chris Argent was the best out there. Those flat, cold eyes could go glacial in an instant, turning your guts into permafrost if you were the one it was turned on. It was, in a nutshell, freaking intimidating, in a different way to Allison’s grandfather too. A shudder went down Stiles’ spine as he thought of the evil old dude. He’d felt Gerard Argent’s hospitality and absolutely never wanted to have a repeat of it.
One corner of Stiles’ mouth lifted harder at Allison’s laugh and mumbled words. It must have been worse if that was your dad and grandfather – and Kate Argent was your aunt. ”I’d say it runs in the family, but it definitely skipped a generation with you.” Stiles tipped his mug towards her in emphasis. ”In your family he’s definitely at the low end of the asshole scale, but I guess that doesn’t make it any easier on you.” Or him if he decided to try and get brave and go toe to toe with Mr Argent. That sort of family dynamic was hard to deal with, even if you were in the easiest spot and sat outside of it all. Smiling through all of that wasn’t easy, but Allison was still managing it on and off like a light bulb flickering. After everything that had happened to her that wasn’t surprising, but Stiles hoped that between the entire pack they could help her to steady things, the same way they’d always done for each other. They came together at those tough times – over coffee or crammed into Derek’s loft (much to his disgust), strategizing or just patching each other up. Stiles hummed lightly, getting both hands on his cup. ”Now that’s the Allison I know so well,” he murmured affectionately. ”Paste on a brave face and we’ll get through it.” No matter what it ended up being.
Mr Argent probably wouldn’t see things that way. He’d always seemed the sort of guy who was so puckered up that he hated not knowing exactly what was coming. There were times when being psychic enough to know what all of that felt like seemed like it would be a blessing, but in the last couple of years Stiles had figured out that it would’ve been a nightmare instead. Knowing and not being able to do anything about it would’ve torn him apart, at least when you were blindsided for things there was no time to twist yourself up into knots beforehand. It was a sharp shock, one you could tell yourself you couldn’t have changed.
Maybe blindsiding her dad with that conversation was what Allison needed. Just be there waiting for him when he got home, force him to stand there and hash it all out. Stlies hunched forward, his elbows on the table. ”Maybe make him come back? Get one of his people to arrange a meeting, or make out like something’s happening at the house? You know, gas company calling? Possible break in? Something he’d have to be there for.” He’d have offered to pull off the mock break in - not only would his dad flip about it, though, Mr Argent would probably have also set up boobytraps for anybody dumb enough to try it.

━ as the hours pass, i will let you know ━ GRINNING, ALLISON COULDN'T HELP THE smile. She hoped that the asshole-y gene had skipped her, but given her actions recently it hadn't...completely skipped everything. At times, when she needed to be mean, it was simply more than possible. "You're too kind..but we both know it hasn't..completely skipped me." Sure the youngest Argent was no Kate, or entirely like her father, but some habits were learned. And incredibly difficult to shake off no less. "It doesn't unfortunately..but.."
Trailing off, Allison looked away - not really willing to dive a little deeper in the 'Argent Asshole Chart of the Year'. As Stiles continued though, the mention of a brave face resulted in a genuine smile out of the Argent. It was something they all did every now and then, push forward their best smiles - making sure they looked good and happy in the eyes of their friends, even if life was rough back home. "Thanks Stiles.." She murmured quietly, smiling small.
At Stiles' ideas of bringing her father home, Allison laughed quietly. Most options sounded valuable, intriguing even, despite the effort and time that would probably need to be spent in order for it to go ahead. "Or..I should maybe do something that suggests there's a lead for something but it's just me waiting right? Something...like that?"

”Pffft!” Stiles waved his mug in the air like he was swatting a fly away along with Allison’s admission. ”Please. It skipped you enough that it’s barely visible. I bet your dad would say the same.” There’d probably be some pride with that too given the standards that her aunt and grandfather had set. That sliding scale leaving Allison in a good position. ”But...” Stiles drawled before he realised that Allison had dropped the thought on purpose. He swirled his cup in the air again, brushing off the question he’d left hanging. She was struggling enough with the family stuff without him trying to dig through it all. The shoulder to lean on thing had its limits and he recognised them at least half the time.
She’d smiled, that meant he hadn‘t stormed too far over the line into the clearly marked minefield. That was progress right there. The corner of his mouth hitched up in a crooked grin that echoed Allison’s. ”There it is. I knew you could do it.” Stiles winked at her, peeling a hand off of his cup to reach out and squeeze her arm gently. He usually didn’t have any trouble running his mouth until people were begging him to stop. Sometimes he knew when to stop though, falling back on silent support instead.
Stiles’ brows hitched at Allison’s suggest. See - there was that sneakiness that he knew had come in part from her dad’s side of the family (he wasn’t about to start trying to dig through her mom’s side of things too, that woman had been just as scary as Mr Argent). Aiming his index fingers at Allison he smirked. ”Now that’s an idea. Totally sucker him in. Maybe drop some hint about the Dread Doctors, their lab’s meant to be in town somewhere. You pick an out of the way spot, somewhere nobody else is likely to find. Tell him there was some kinda sighting and then bam, yeah, you’re waiting there when he kicks down the door.”
Realising how that could backfire around a guy who was usually armed to the teeth and more than ready to shoot, Stiles grimaced and sagged back. ”Maybe we go with something a little less threatening so he’s not gonna come in all guns blazing.” Something similar though, a hint that her dad wouldn’t be able to resist, a quiet out of the way place to force the conversation between the two of them. Surely Mr Argent couldn’t complain too much about it then. ”You need any help setting it up? I can’t guarantee subterfuge on my part, but you need someone to drive you around or, you know, run interference on anybody else who’s likely to come poking around, I’m your guy!” He puffed his chest out at that, patting it like he was honestly proud. If there was anybody who could prove a distraction, it was definitely him.

━ as the hours pass, i will let you know ━ AS STILES' ARMS WAVED IN THE air as if he were swatting a fly, Allison couldn't help but snort and laugh. While Stiles was probably being honest, the Argent couldn't help but see it otherwise. She was truly far from it, knowing she had picked up her father's temper and overall negative personality, hence why it was constant for the two of them to butt heads. "I feel like it would be wrong to agree with you but..thank you Stiles." Grinning as she sipped at her drink once more, Allison felt slightly tense.
He was right in one way, her father was on the lower scale of the 'asshole' chart, but considering Allison was closeted from the higher end of things - putting up with the 'tough love' from her father, in the Argent's mind it was rather twisted. It didn't matter though, considering everyone had their own different opinion about everything. As Stiles winked while his arm rose, giving her a gentle squeeze, the hunter couldn't help but feel rather warm inside. Like Scott, Stiles was one of the very few people that Allison felt like she could let her guard down, and feel truly comfortable around. Even in their awkward states and all.
As Stiles continued on the suggestion that Allison had hinted on, the Argent couldn't help but grin wide. "See..I hadn't thought of all of that." She began, tapping at the side of her cup mischievously. "Do you happen..to know a few out of the way spots? Locally anyway?" Not considering the danger of it all, to play a prank on her dad knowing that it could go wrong, Allison's brow rose before the slight panic subsided. She knew how her father moved, how he carried himself and exactly what weapons he would bring if she laid it out.
"I guess but..I also know how he's like..you know?" Allison paused then, momentarily losing her mind in the business of other students around them before her eyes wandered back to paying attention with Stiles. "Maybe you could fuel like the rumours..a fake phone call here and there..Only if you're willing to that is, I don't mind doing this on my own also."

Stiles set his mug back down on the table before either he or someone else ended up with a face full of coffee, he was still smiling though. There’d been a time when they’d never expected to see Allison again, let alone actually hearing her laugh. Seeing it now felt good and he imagined that no matter how pissed he was at her about things, Allison’s dad would feel the same way. ”Anytime,” he promised, giving her a little nudge with his leg under the table.
With everything that had happened over the last couple of years they had to take their moments where they found them. There were far too few of the good sort between all the nightmares and not stopping to appreciate them only made everything else feel a thousand times worse when it hit. Chris Argent should’ve been the poster for that sentiment, but the man didn’t seem to have a real emotional bone in his body. Every time they’d crossed paths it had been all steely determination and the sort of cold anger that had a shiver running right up your spine. Allison had probably seen some sort of warm side to him at some point, but he wasn’t gonna ask her to start trying to dig back into those memories now. They had bigger things to deal with in trying to get her dad to seriously talk to after all.
Drawing a hand towards himself, Stiles tapped one of those fingers against a temple. ”You can always trust me to come up with something out of the box. It’s scary how good I am,” he snorted, puffing up like he had displayed some sort of genius instead of just the sort of sneakiness that had gotten him in trouble a hundred times over as a kid. Hmm. Stiles picked up his cup again, taking a thoughtful sip before he gestured towards her with it. ”There’s the old Fell’s church. You could tell him it’s some sort of confessional when he works out you’re there to talk.” Somehow he doubted that Mr Argent would take religion that seriously, but hey, it might add a little weight to the request and finally get the guy to crack.
”Like he’s always cranked an eleven on the pucker scale?” Stiles asked. He followed Allison’s line of gaze. It couldn’t have been easy growing up in a house like that, where every move was scrutinised by your parents and you had no freaking clue why. His brows remained high over his cup as he took a last sip from it. ”Of course I’m willing to,” he grumbled. ”Pack sticks together, especially with things like this. Come on, let’s go start it now, we can work out some sort of script and I’ll start laying the ground work. We’ll set it up so well your dad’ll have no idea what’s going on.” Stiles winced faintly at the thought, but stood up anyway, offering a hand to Allison to help her up. Maybe it would come back to bite him on the ass, but if it did he’d deal with it. Mr Argent was only the second scariest thing that’d come after him in town this week.

━ as the hours pass, i will let you know ━ SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE ARGENT, SAT relief. Relief that she was able to fall back into the comfortableness she once had with her friends. It was as if she hadn't of disappeared, as if she had been in touch the entire time, had opened up, explained her problems like a normal person. But things happened and things had changed, the Argent simply had to deal with it.
As Stiles mentioned Allison could trust him to come up with something far from what she imagined, the hunter felt her lips rise into a wide smile. He wasn't wrong in that aspect, all of Scott's and everyone's wild ideas usually stemmed from Stiles'crazy, wild ideas. It was definitely a benefit having someone like him as a friend. Snorting along with him, Allison lifted her cup to swirl the last bit of liquid that sat at the bottom of the cup.
"Anything religion he won't take particularly serious.." She replied in response to his suggestion. "It could work though, but it's a very thin...thin...'could'." Smiling as Stiles continued, Allison felt her mind recall the feelings she used to feel and the thoughts that would process through her mind every time something was pointed out to her. "Yeah..It's like cameras being stuck on you 24/7 except..you can't see them and instead your actions are watched more than what you say."
As Stiles stood, Allison's eyes widened a little, moving to she could be just as ready. "Right now?!" She felt herself ask, scrambling some of her things together before taking Stiles' hand to stand. This was their first reunion after months or years of separation and Stiles was making her feel far from uncomfortable.
"Stiles, you don't have amnesia or something right?" The hunter laughed, the bad feeling that had developed disappearing in an instant. "Thank you." The brunette added, knowing that whatever chaos awaited them, she would have a friend by her side.
