Leah's behavior towards the brunette Grey had been hanging around with was bordering on stalking some would say. She knew where the girl lived, what interests she had, where she worked, what car she drove. Leah was obsessed with getting her revenge on Grey, and this brunette girl could be the way. From what she had observed from the stranger, she was kind and always willing to help people. She wondered what the hell she was doing with a guy like Grey. This girl was too good for Grey. Nonetheless, Leah wasn't here to dish out relationship advice to this girl. It was a Saturday morning. Leah woke up reasonably early and headed into Mystic Falls for a coffee. A few days ago she found an advert in the window of a cafe advertising a small room up for short-term rent on the outskirts of Mystic Falls with a local couple. It was perfect for Leah, she was far enough away from Mystic Falls to avoid bumping into Grey, but also close enough to keep an eye on him. The couple were very chilled as well and didn't mind Leah arriving home in the early hours of the morning after spending the evening transporting souls. It was the ideal place for her to rest her head between mortals dropping dead. When she became a reaper she didn't realize it would be a 24 hours, 7 days a week kind of job, but it was better than limbo, so she didn't complain. The walk into Mystic Falls was only 40 minutes, and the route was somewhat picturesque so she didn't mind walking. Being a reaper, she was getting used to teleporting everywhere, but she couldn't do that in a town full of people. As she drew closer to the town Leah took a shortcut through the gardens but stopped dead when she saw someone sat down having a picnic. It was the brunette and she was alone. Perfect. Leah hadn't exactly rehearsed what she was doing to say to this girl when their paths crossed, or whether she was going to do anything to the girl. No, she hadn't perfected her plan of action against Grey yet, so for now she would play it cool. Leah huffed quietly to herself, before plastering a sweet smile on her face and approaching the girl. "Hey there!" She beamed as she got closer, "Sorry if this is a bit weird, but I love your top it's so cute" It killed her to be this nice to someone. It made her stomach turn. "Oh my god, is that a camera? I did a night class in photography once and I loved it. Nothing more beautiful than capturing the most perfect image that you can keep forever" Total lie, Leah had never even owned a camera. DESTINY BACCARI - let's goooooooooo

━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ Destiny had gotten just about the best results possible from her return to Mystic Falls. A stable job at the Daily, an apartment, and new... acquaintances. Grey was a friend, though━maybe her only friend after it became clear that Thea was nowhere to be found. She felt like she could trust him, especially after their most recent training-turned-hangout session. It wasn’t as if Destiny really kept secrets to herself for very long━she’d pretty much share anything with anybody if they let her ramble━but there were a few things she kept under wraps. Too dark to reveal, things that would potentially complicate a budding friendship. And that’s what she thought it was━he helped her discover her abilities, let her power grow, and become more confident with it. He was helping her to be more confident in a lot of ways, actually━she was flinching less when he moved too quickly, and the memories that rushed in when he touched her in certain places weren’t so constant anymore. Grey made her feel safe, and that was the most essential part of their friendship.
She filled her day with other things than just Darach-stuff, though. Laying out a blanket and even going as far as to bring an actual picnic basket━well, a thermal and modern one, more of a bag than a real basket━she sat in the sun, eating everything but the crusts on her sandwich. It would’ve been a nice day to bring out her dog, but she didn’t know when she’d be done, or if she’d need to leave quickly to capture something for work. For now, though, she snapped a few pictures of the trees, light beaming through the branches on the particularly sunny day.
‘Hey there!’
Light brown hair whipped over her shoulder, her eyes meeting the blonde approaching. She was talking to Destiny, but the smile on her face left no room for any anxiety about this interaction. Immediately trusting, as per usual. And why wouldn’t she be? She hadn’t done anything to warrant any sort of trouble. She mimicked the expression coming from the girl, though the smile turned huge when she complimented Destiny’s top.
Glancing down━as if she couldn’t remember what she was wearing━she remembered the light blue sweater she’d purchased on that night with the storm, the last time she’d seen Grey. ‘Stress-shopping’ had left her with a new outfit, and ‘stress-baking’ with the only food she had available for the rest of the night.
She was beaming back up at the girl in a matter of seconds. “Aw, thank you! I just got it, I was like ‘I gotta wear this today before it gets way too hot’.” Destiny laughed, straightening up excitedly when the stranger mentioned the camera hanging around her neck, “Oh my god, right? I love it. I work for the Mystic Falls Daily, and, like, it doesn’t even feel like a job when I just get to take pictures all the time.” She laughed, resting her sandwich back in the container and pulling the camera strap over her head. “I just took this one and I dunno, I love it.” Destiny’s grin turned sheepish, as if it was a bad thing to be proud of her work. She pulled up the viewer and scrolled back twice before turning the camera towards the woman, pointing the digital screen at her. She went up onto her knees to get closer, letting her see the photo she’d taken while laying on her back, lens pointed up at the blue sky, obscured somewhat by the bare branches of the tree.

Everything about this girl just beamed positivity, which was the complete opposite to Leah as a person. She did see herself as being pessimistic but instead realistic. Someone who realizes life is not always sunshine and rainbows. She could not stand people who were too optimistic; it irritated her. The brunette welcomed Leah with a huge friendly smile, especially when she complimented the top she was wearing. It was a nice top, in fairness, but the reaper would never go out of her way to tell someone she liked their top. In fact, she never approached strangers in public and openly started a conversation with them, “Oh god, I hate the bit between spring and summer where the weather changes every five minutes, but yeah, your top is so nice” Leah laughed sheepishly. She listened as the girl explained to her she works for the Mystic Falls Daily, which Leah already knew, but nodded and smiled as though she did not. In her opinion, people were too naive in a world full of dangers. Her guarded nature could be due to being brought up as a werewolf and constantly being told people out there want to hurt her. She was taught to sleep one eye open, always be ready to defend herself. People actively hunted wolves as their full-time job. This girl seemed too trusting of Leah, especially as she was not approaching the girl with pure intentions. The blonde had always been somewhat mistrusting throughout her childhood, but her trust issues were solidified when she found out her father was not the man she thought he was. It was that pitiful man who was once the pack’s Druid. It made her skin crawl to be related to someone so pathetic and hopeless. Just the word Maddox stuck in her throat like a dry cracker, difficult to swallow. Difficult to accept she was part of that family. “I just took this one and I dunno, I love it.” The girl pulled her camera strap from around her neck before angling the screen towards her. Leah had no concept of photography and did not appreciate it the same way others did. The way in which the girl appreciated it. “Oh wow, that’s beautiful! The sky looks so blue and peaceful. I love it,” She responded, not a single ounce of truth in her words, only that the sky did look peaceful and blue, but Leah would never think about sticking a camera upwards and taking a picture of it. She never took a moment to take in her surroundings fully, as she was too busy living in her own head. “I’m Leah, by the way,” She said quickly. She was not sure how long she could babble on about this photography bullshit, so she aimed to change the conversation, “I moved here a few weeks ago” That bit was valid. She had moved to Mystic Falls a few weeks ago. DESTINY BACCARI

━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ “Right?!” Destiny let out the word, a laugh and a playful roll of her eyes following immediately after. “Like, pick a season! It’s the worst.” She snorted, pinching a piece of fabric between her index finger and thumb, glancing at her sweater for a second longer. Maybe this could be the start of a new friendship━Destiny wasn’t close to anybody in Mystic Falls other than Grey, and female friends were… kind of essential. Sometimes men were just too analytical, and she needed somebody she could rant to about all that emotional shit.
Destiny was always a little too excited about future relationships, thinking of all they could be before they’d gone anywhere at all. She didn’t even know this girl’s name, and suddenly she was picturing them watching movies and drinking on Destiny’s couch, pigging out on snacks and becoming best friends.
It was what had her bounding forward and onto her knees, camera in hand, trying to win over the blonde with a photo she’d just taken. “Thanks!” Destiny beamed, moving back down to sit on the blanket. She put the lid on the lens and tucked it carefully into the case that was sitting out, her wide smile coming back to the stranger in a matter of seconds.
‘I’m Leah, by the way … I moved here a few weeks ago.’
Okay, maybe she wasn’t so much of a stranger anymore. “I’m Destiny; it’s nice to meet you!” One hand reached into her picnic basket, pulling out the small container of chocolate chip cookies she’d prepared. Destiny pulled off the lid and tossed it down, then raised the container to Leah. “Wanna cookie?” She asked. Maybe it was a little weird to offer food to somebody you’d just met, but Destiny was still hoping she could gain a friend from this, and the sharing of food was another step towards that━at least, in her mind, it was.
“I’ve lived in Mystic Falls for, like, uh… a few years,” She laughed, trying to come up with an exact number, but her mind was blanking with the flurry of new conversation and attempting to seem nice enough to be considered for friendship. “I left for, like, a year, but then I moved back. How’re you liking Mystic Falls so far?” Destiny asked, dipping her own hand into the container to pull out a cookie for herself. She put the container down finally, biting into the soft dough.
“If you need any help finding good places to hang out or eat or whatever, I can totally be your own personal ‘Yelp’.” Destiny giggled after she’d chewed and swallowed the piece of cookie in her mouth, silently congratulating herself for baking a decent cookie━she hoped Leah liked them, too.

The brunette was much more bubbly and excitable than Leah was expecting, but still, she put on her friendliest face. It was a shame this girl had become so caught up with Grey and was about to be collateral damage in the war between the half-siblings. Hopefully, it would be a warning to her. Stay away from characters like Grey. Truthfully, she wasn't looking to kill the girl, but if needed, she would. Thankfully, the camera was going away, so Leah didn't have to pretend to be interested in pictures anymore. Destiny. The nameless brunette she had been observing now had a name. "Nice to meet you too, Destiny!" She responded as she watched the other girl grab something out of her picnic basket. She opened the container and offered Leah a cookie. "Thank you" She took a cookie from the container before taking a small bite. They were pretty good cookies. Leah took a second bite of the cookie as she listened to Destiny babble on, partly listened before also allowing her mind to wander as to what her plan of action was with Destiny. She still didn't know if the girl was supernatural or not. Obviously, Leah was hoping she wasn't as it would make the situation easier. The reaper was working with the assumption she was, though. She wanted to make sure she had considered all consequences, which she failed to do when facing Grey. No one expected him to be the underdog in a fight between the pair. Leah was supposed to win. She was the werewolf. The one who was fast and strong. Grey was just Grey, yet at the end of it was her overlooking her fatally injured body. "I love it here so far. It's a little smaller than my hometown in England, but I like it. Everyone seems so friendly" She didn't love Mystic Falls at all, but she could see how the town could grow on a person. There was a sense of community there, and everyone seemed to know another one. It was ideal for those looking to settle down, but not for Leah. She took another bite of the cookie, "These are really good, by the way, did you bake them?" Perhaps she could grab the recipe off Destiny after using her against Grey. Leah chuckled at Destinys's comment, "Thank you, that's very kind of you". She finished the remainder of the cookie. “Funnily enough, maybe you could help me with something” She begun, as she brushed the biscuit crumbs from her fingertips. She kneeled down next to Destiny, balancing herself on the edge of the picnic blanket. Death explained to Leah what powers and abilities she would have a reaper. There was a long list, and she had yet to explore what she could and couldn’t do, but she knew she could manipulate the life forces of others. Destiny was going to be her test subject. Her blue eyes fell on the brunette as she concentrated on closing Destiny’s wipe pipe, slowly restricting her oxygen intake, “I would like you to pass on a message onto Grey Maddox’s, you know Grey right?” A dangerous smirk formed on her face, “Course you do. Anyway, I want you to tell him I’m back, and I’m coming for him. Oh…” She laughed coldly, “I completely forgot to mention I’m his half-sister” Leah wasn’t sure how much Grey has shared with Destiny. ━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ Thankfully, Destiny’s new potential friend didn’t call her out for offering food and even took one from the container. She had more than one bite, which was a relief to Destiny━maybe they weren’t so bad after all, and could aid in winning over Leah. She hadn’t planned to do the same with Grey two nights before, using the muffins as a way to distract herself instead of impressing him, but it’d worked out better that way in the end. Maybe her baking had a little hint of magic in it to help Destiny make friends. She highly doubted darachs had that ability, but wouldn’t that be something.
Or maybe it only worked on Brits. She found it a little weird━or interesting━that so many people could come from another country and find such a tiny town to reside in. But Grey had a reason she’d only heard pieces of, so it would make sense if Leah did, too. “Whereabouts in England are you from?” Destiny asked politely━as if she’d know. Anything other than ‘London’ would be difficult to navigate in her internal map, but it seemed like the most normal follow-up. “I did!” She beamed, “Thanks, I’m glad you like them. I can give you the recipe if you want. I found it online, but I’ve been making my own little changes to it over the years.” Stuck at home on days off and learning to provide for herself meant Destiny had to make things interesting sometimes, and revamping a baking recipe was her kind of simple fun.
‘Funnily enough, maybe you could help me with something.’
“Yeah? Sure!” Destiny responded with a glee that made her ignorance of this situation incredibly obvious. She had no idea what was coming next as Leah finally started to join her on the picnic blanket, but why would she? Destiny was searching for friendship, still not skeptical of anybody despite all she’d gone through in her short life. A life that seemed to get increasingly shorter by the second.
Suddenly, it was hard to swallow━to breathe, even. Destiny’s blue eyes were like saucers as she gasped, dropping the cookie in her hand. Nails clawed at her throat, trying to get that invisible force off her━to relieve the pressure from her windpipe. The anxiety didn’t make it any easier to breathe, heart beginning to beat rapidly beneath her chest, vision going fuzzy as it brimmed with tears. She was never strong enough to pull Tanner’s hand away, couldn’t escape him even if she tried━this felt the same. Destiny was helpless, caught in the trap of victimhood once more.
She hung onto Leah’s every word like a lifeline━as if there’d be something in there that could save her. Grey? What the fuck? That’s what this was about? Was she some crazy ex-girlfriend that wanted Destiny to ‘stay away from her man’? Destiny couldn’t fucking believe it. How did she get wrapped up in somebody else’s bullshit?
As easily as he’d gotten wrapped up in her’s, she supposed. Despite her constant attempts to keep him out of it, details had slipped from her lips whether she wanted them to or not. Now nothing was leaving them, barely even puffs of air.
His half-sister? Something snapped in Destiny. This wasn’t a jealous lover; Leah was a shitty sister, just like Destiny’s own. She could imagine Lacey doing this type of shit, and it’d been more than a decade since Destiny had seen her last. She had no fucking patience for this anymore, hands closing into fists, knuckles resting against the red streaks on her throat. Despite the laboured breaths, Destiny focused on building up every last bit of energy she had, her eyes falling closed.
She pushed her palms outward after a moment, using one of the few abilities she’d known about before meeting Grey. Destiny sent Leah flying backwards, putting at least a few feet between them. The darach slumped sideways once it was done, one hand finding her throat again, gently wrapping around it as she focused on finally breathing once more.
“Get the hell away from me.” She tried so hard to keep her voice firm, but it was incredibly unsteady, only increasingly so as Destiny began to sob, tears streaming down her face. She wasn’t prepared for this━she couldn’t go through this shit again, and while Destiny wanted to convince herself she wouldn’t get involved in Grey’s family drama, she was growing defensive by the second, wanting to protect him from this crazy bitch.
“I swear to God, if you fucking come near him or me again I’ll…” She’d what? Cry some more? Another wave of tears rocked Destiny, arms curling around herself for protection. Her knees raised as she continued to sit there and freeze up completely. Worthless, helpless. Those words were flying around her head again, and she couldn’t even open her eyes to see if Leah was moving in on her. She was shutting down, scared for her life and what would come next. Why did it have to be her? Why did Destiny have to be the one to pass on the message?
Maybe coming back to Mystic Falls hadn’t been such a good idea after all.

Leah was careful not to overshare with Destiny as she didn't know what Grey had told her so far. "I'm from the outskirts of London," She responded with a smile. She didn't want to say Kent in case Destiny somehow put two and two together, though she doubted it. Destiny was too eager to try and impress Leah with the delicious cookies and bright smiles. The desperation which oozed from the girl would explain why she liked Grey. "Yes, I would love that!" Though she was not much of a baker, it couldn't be too hard to throw some ingredients together in a bowl then put it in the oven. "Yeah? Sure!" Of course, she was keen to help Leah. When would this girl learn that you shouldn't trust everyone you meet. All it took was a few smiles and complimenting her baking skills. She predicted Grey didn't need to put much effort in to get Destiny into bed. A smirk danced across Leah's face as she watched Destiny clawing at her skin, trying to gasp for air. "Wow, I wasn't expecting that to work. You're lucky I didn't accidentally snap your neck" She was pleased with herself, proud almost. "Learn something new every day though" It was good to know she could choke someone simply by thinking of it. She loved being a reaper. Destiny raised her palms up, and the blonde was knocked backwards by an unseen force. She landed heavily on the grass but still wearing a small smirk on her face. So this girl was also supernatural. A witch maybe? No, a witch would be more switched on than this. They were wary beings. Leah watched as Destiny came up for air, desperately taking in the oxygen. Shortly after the other girl started to cry, sobbing even. "Jesus" The reaper rolled her eyes and groaned. "Get a grip. I only narrowed your windpipe for a few seconds" There was no need for the tears; Destiny was still alive and breathing. Leah brushed the dirt and grass from her jeans as she stood up. "I swear to God if you fucking come near him or me again I'll…" Leah folded her arms, looking over at Destiny. She let out a cold empty laugh. "You'll what? Sit on your picnic blanket and sob? Hit me with another weak-ass magical force field? Do you realize I can't be killed?" Technically not true, there were ways to take down a reaper, but even Leah didn't know how she could be killed. She assumed she couldn't die by regular means, such as a broken neck, or being shot. "You're more pathetic than what I imagined. I guess you and Grey are made for each other" Perhaps her half-brother enjoyed looking after Destiny, keeping her safe. Either way, she was stupid to get involved with a Maddox. The family destroyed everything they touch, and Leah believed Grey would soon do the same to Destiny. He would destroy this sweet innocent girl who sat in front of her crying. "So you'll pass on my message, yeah? Tell him I'm coming for him and anyone who stands in his way" She reiterated. Leah wanted to make sure Destiny would do as she was told, and she wasn't wasting her time with the brunette. "And when all this has blown over, I would actually like the recipe for the cookies" Who knows, maybe the pair could be friends in the future. DESTINY BACCARI

━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ Destiny couldn’t believe she’d just immediately expected the other girl to be as sweet and friendly as Destiny was herself. Maybe ordinary people didn’t just walk up to strangers and try to make friends━not in this town, it seemed. She hated that. Why was it so hard to meet people without one of them having to be on the verge of death?
Perhaps that was what caused Destiny’s firm outburst. She’d seen Grey burned alive once, their friendship growing from that moment on, and she didn’t want that happening to him again. Plus, she hated bitchy sisters, and Leah seemed like the fucking worst of them.
Her fingers curled around the picnic blanket, knuckles turning white over the fabric. She was laughing at Destiny, that sick and maniacal bullshit that reminded the darach of when she’d been so lost and alone. She wouldn’t return to that space, couldn’t, and she wasn’t going to let this idiot do that to her.
‘You'll what? Sit on your picnic blanket and sob? Hit me with another weak-ass magical force field? Do you realize I can't be killed?’
That’sit. Destiny pulled herself together and moved to her feet. She stood on the picnic blanket with clenched fists, muscles going rigid while she glared at Leah, jaw clenched. She was beyond irritated and upset by that point, finding herself in a deep pit of rage, practically drowning in it. “Yeah?” Her voice was barely any stronger than before, but Destiny was determined to keep pushing on, quickly batting away another tear. “Well, we can always try, maybe see what fucking happens.” She snapped, trying not to let the girl’s words get to her. They didn’t matter━she was trying to be hurtful. Unfortunately, though, the mental pep-talk didn’t help, and Destiny was soaking in all of it, allowing it to drag her down.
“Seems like you’re the one who’s fucking pathetic if you can’t face him on your own. What, you scared?” Destiny didn’t know anything about this girl; Grey hadn’t even told her that he had a sister, but she was letting her mouth run anyway, spewing out whatever felt like it would hurt most. Plus, Grey was strong━he’d taught Destiny everything she knew. Maybe she was biased, but Destiny had full faith in him.
‘So you'll pass on my message, yeah? Tell him I'm coming for him and anyone who stands in his way. And when all this has blown over, I would actually like the recipe for the cookies.’
“Fuck you.” Destiny spat.
Of course she’d go to Grey, though. She felt safe with him━he was proven to be helpful the night of the storm, when she’d curled into his touch and found solace she hadn’t expected. She didn’t want to lead Leah right to him, but… if she knew enough about Destiny to corner her here, then she probably already knew where Grey was. The thought made her queasy.
She felt her confidence begin to dwindle internally, self-esteem getting in the way of her defiance. Destiny didn’t move from where she stood, but her voice couldn’t seem to find the strength it needed, pushing out words like she didn’t believe in herself to back it up.
“I said leave. Get away from me right fucking now. Turn around and start fucking walking.” She tried her best, though, pulling anything from the pit of her stomach to have the girl believing she would do something again. Destiny didn’t know what Leah was, but was quite sure she’d be able to fight Destiny off with no problem. Even if she was a darach herself, she probably knew a lot more. How to fight; how to use her abilities in a way that aided her━Destiny could barely force a squirrel to do her bidding, what made her think she could get out of here alive if Leah didn’t permit it?
Despite the lack of confidence, and the fear consuming her, Destiny stayed standing, appearing as strong as she possibly could be. Leah wanted her to pass on the message, and maybe that tiny bit of value on Destiny’s life would allow her to leave without much more of a fuss.

Blue eyes watched as Destiny got to her feet, finding her voice, standing up for herself. It was like watching a baby take its first steps. “Please, be my guest” She would also love to see the brunette try and kill her; the girl could barely pull herself together after a light choking or who knows how well she would do in a fight against Leah. “Scared?” Leah laughed, her laugh just as icy and cold as before. Grey did manage to get the upper hand last time, but this time would be different. This time Leah would be the victor; she was certain of that. “It’s a bit boring just walking up to him like ‘Hey, it’s me, I’m back.’ I’d rather my grand return be more… exciting” She wanted Grey to be the scared one, not only for himself but for Destiny too. If he cared for her. No, she was biding her time with this because once Grey was dead, it would all be over. Then what? She goes back to reaping souls forever? She wanted to drag this out as long as possible, relish in every last minute. “Is that a ‘fuck you’ to passing the message on, or the recipe?” There was no doubt Destiny would run off into the arms of Grey, blubbering she had bumped into Leah. Grey would stroke her soft locks, telling her everything will be fine and he’ll deal with Leah. If only she could be there to watch the whole thing unfold. Her half-brother’s reaction would be a picture she would love to frame. “I said leave. Get away from me right fucking now. Turn around and start fucking walking.” Leah rolled her eyes; she was growing bored of this interaction anyway. The message had been delivered, loud and clear. There was no need for the reaper to linger around and play nice with Destiny, “Word of advice Destiny.” The name sounding like it didn’t belong in her mouth, as if she was driving it out “The Maddox’s family is poison, and Grey will ruin you as his father did to his mother” The blonde was trying to rid the world of that family. Only Grey was left. She didn’t expect Destiny to understand her reasoning for going after Grey. It was complicated,, but it only made sense in her mind in reality. To everyone else, she sounded crazy. After killing her real father, Leah spent hours trying to explain her actions to her mother and non-biological father, only to be met with blank stares with a hint of concern underneath. At least for her non-biological. Her mother would have to have cared in the first place to play the concerned parent. Maybe, just maybe, if the Maddox family were dead, then her family could be left in peace. Perhaps they could start acting like a real family instead of a group of people who have been forced together. Back then, she believed killing Grey, and his father was the answer to all her problems. But now?
