It was Thursday night, and Kitty was due to meet some of her course mates in the Underground Club. Armed with her sister’s ID she made her way into Mystic Falls. There was a short queue to get inside, and the wind was bitter against her face. Luckily she had her leather jacket on, plus she had drunk a few beers before leaving campus. As she reached the front the bouncer glanced at her ID before letting her inside. Thankfully she looked exactly like her older sister, so no one ever asked any questions. Once she was inside Kitty looked around for her course mates. She couldn't see them anywhere, but she was a few minutes early, so perhaps they weren't there yet. She headed straight for the bar and ordered two shots of vodka. She was keen to socialize with her course mates and hopefully make some new friends. After finishing her two shots she ordered herself a beer. The alcohol was slowly taking effect, which helped Kitty to ease up a little. She had a long week at college and was looking forward to unwinding. The music was pumping loudly, but she could still hear people’s conversations around her. The girl next to her at the bar was going on about her boyfriend dumping her, but she wasn’t bothered because she fancied his brother anyway. Kitty snapped out of their conversation before taking her drink to find a spare table. She fumbled in her pocket for her cell phone and pulled it out. She quickly typed out a text to the groupchat to say she was inside but couldn’t find a spare table. She lingered for a moment, taking a mouthful of her beer when her phone buzzed. They were already inside and sat near the dance floor. Kitty was relieved she didn't have to stand around waiting for them. The bar was getting a little busy, so Kitty decided to finish her beer and order another one whilst she was closeby. She messaged her friends back to say she would be with them in a minute. Kitty waited patiently at the bar, waiting to be served. The newly single girl was still at the bar, now she was telling her friend how she looking forward to kissing lots of guys that evening. Maybe even take a lucky guy home with her. Kitty wasn't paying attention to her surroundings and felt a sharp nudge in her back "Are you ordering a drink then?!" The girl behind her barked. Kitty frowned at the stranger, "Calm down" She responded, and as she went to turn back around the girl elbowed her again, "I'm fucking warning you!" Kitty snapped. She felt the rage shower down on her and it was all she could think about. Her heart started to race, and she could feel herself losing control. "Or else what?" The stranger sneered. Without thinking, Kitty spun around and grabbed hold of the girl, before throwing her across the dance floor. She looked down at her hands and saw her claws visible. KIT CLARKE

━ nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky ━ The club was pretty much always busy, but that Thursday was tough. Not that Kit was breaking under the pressure, though, because a few pit stops in the bathroom his break had geared him up for the rest of the night. Somehow, he’d become the shift lead for almost every night he was working, as if he was really the right man for the job. He’d been there for a while, he supposed, and the stuff in his system ensured that he had enough energy to get done all his tasks while serving as many people as possible. Somehow, he’d even manage to flirt with and take home a different girl almost every night, or just hookup with her before they closed up shop. Kit thought it was a fucking miracle that he’d even kept this job, let alone worked his way to a position that drew in respect from others.
It made sense, though━he was kind of overqualified. He didn’t look or act like it, but Kit was smart━he had to be to get into the Special Forces. And that he’d done; serving his country and nearly dying for it on multiple occasions, but there he was, now making sure the underbelly of this small town was liquored up. A real war hero.
Some girl had been talking loudly all night about how she was looking to get with somebody, and Kit was sticking near her section, chatting her up in between drinks. He didn’t care that he could practically smell the desperation off her; he wasn’t looking to work for it. A quick trip home and another bit of company, hopefully dragging it out long enough to stave off the nightmares━as if they’d ever truly leave him.
What he didn’t expect, though, was having to step in for a wolf-like confrontation.
The shouted warning came first, and Kit’s glassy blue eyes flicked to the scene just in time to see one girl elbow another, and then get thrown across a few feet for it. Launched farther than any human could do, especially a girl as small as that one. His ability to focus was lacking, but Kit definitely saw claws in place of the girl’s hands, and immediately took control of the situation. Maybe it was his job, but he couldn’t risk having anybody else see her half-shifting, or worse, have this girl tear up half their patrons.
He stuck one hand on the counter and launched himself over it, landing on the other side and standing over the wolf girl. Kit was no Alpha, but he used his size to his advantage, leaning over her while snatching her arm in a firm grip. “Put it away.” He spoke sternly, voice a low rumble. His already-bright blue eyes shifted into ones of a supernatural, glowing blue, showing her that he was just the same as she was. “She’s not worth it. Just calm down, breathe.” The last thing Kit had expected to do on this shift was being stuck babysitting a fellow werewolf, and he had absolutely no desire to spend the rest of his night guiding her through her abilities. But he related to lashing out and not having control. It hit a soft spot somewhere in him, a place he didn’t want to revisit━especially not with a stranger.

Kitty dug her claws deep into her hand trying to focus on not shifting in a nightclub full of people. She focused on her claws tearing into the palms of her hand. This had never happened to her before, so she was completely out of her depth. It went without saying the werewolf had a bit of temper, but it had never been problematic before. She had never escalated to violence either. It was like her anger had been amplified a million times since she was bitten. Back in Atlanta, she had her sisters to fall back on if anything went wrong, and they were there to keep her safe. In Mystic Falls there was no one to keep her in check. Kitty could hear people around her shouting, yet their voices were drowned out by the sound of her increasing heartbeat in her head. It was almost deafening. Shit, had her coursemates seen her sudden outburst of fury? She hoped not, it wasn't a good first impression. Nonetheless, she was too scared to look up and check, but just stared straight into the ground hoping the rage would either faded away, or it was just a terrible dream. Her grandmother uses to tell her to count backwards from 100 whenever she got upset or angry over something, but suddenly Kitty was struggling to even count. It felt like she had been staring at the dirty floor of the nightclub for hours, but realistically it had been seconds. Suddenly someone grabbed her arm, firmly. Kitty thought it was the girl coming back for a fight, but was relieved when she heard a male voice growl, "Put it away" It away? What was it? She was a little perplexed until she looked up and saw bright blue eyes staring back at her. The colour matched her own eye. "Fuck" Kitty tried to pull back, but the stranger's grip kept her still. She knew there were other wolves out there, but she was yet to cross paths with any. Well, she was assuming he was a werewolf, as they shared the same eyes. “She’s not worth it. Just calm down, breathe.” Breathe? That's all she was trying to do, but it felt like the oxygen was just getting stuck in her throat. The basic human task was proving impossible, "I'm trying!" She snapped through gritted teeth, deflecting her anger onto the werewolf. "Sorry..." She quickly muttered, realizing she was being out of order. Kitty closed her right eye, trying to concentrate on her breathing, taking deep sharp intakes of oxygen. The breathing was working. The sound of her heartbeat was disappearing from her head, being replaced with loud music from the speakers. She felt her claws slowly retract and her right eye was now back to its original brown colour. Kitty opened her eye, and looked at the guy, "Sorry" The young werewolf repeated, "I don't know what came over me" A mixture of too much alcohol, a mouthy girl who didn't know when to shut up, and Kitty's temperament. Either way, she was grateful to the stranger for helping her. "Are you?..." Her voice trailed off, she didn't want to say the word out loud and she was also wary of someone overhearing her. ━ nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky ━ Kit hated feeling caged. Even before he’d triggered his werewolf gene, any sort of confines scared and angered him. He knew what it was like to feel cornered, like a trapped animal, unable to get away while your actions rained down on you like hellfire. She hadn’t killed anybody, but it could’ve gotten worse if Kit hadn’t stepped in. He didn’t want this responsibility, wanting to let go of her arm when she tugged, but he knew it was best to keep her steady. She was angry, and if he needed to trap her, then he would. He showed her his eyes as he spoke, partly as a comradery effect, but also to reiterate his point━that she had to back down before it got worse.
He hated being told to breathe, too. Psychiatrists feeding him exercises as if he’d ever remember them, or have the forethought to use them when he felt out of control. It was the only advice that came to his lips, though, spilling out as if it could really help her. She snapped at him, and Kit didn’t blame her, but also didn’t move an inch. He stood like a tall stone in front of her, not budging despite her protest. Kit barely shook his head at her apology, hoping to wave off any and all worry. It took a lot to offend him, and he understood where she was coming from. If some guy had been half as rude to him, Kit would’ve needed ten men to hold him back from tearing out his throat.
The music never died down despite the incident, his colleagues going to help the girl that had been thrown, making sure she was alright. Kit continued to watch the one-eyed wolf in front of him, his hold loosening but not letting go just yet. A bounced approached from the side, but Kit held up his palm to the man, silently telling him that he’d handle it.
Finally, the girl listened to him, using slow and deep breaths to calm down. He dropped his hand when her claws retracted, allowing his eyes to fade back to their natural blue.
‘Sorry, I don’t know what came over me.’
Kit snorted, “I think that bitch did it.” Though it wasn’t an excuse to use your abilities on a helpless human, he completely understood. If she was one, too, it would’ve been an even fight, but their enhanced strength made it unfair. Kit thought it was annoying━more people needed to get hit in the face; maybe there’d be fewer assholes in the world if people threw more punches.
She started to ask if he was a werewolf, and Kit laughed again, raising his brows incredulously. “Nah, I just have glowing eyes and new exactly what you were doin’.” He said sarcastically, though the grin on his lips promised to take any burn out of his words. “How ‘bout we get you another drink before you rip off some girl’s head, huh?” Kit asked, taking a small step back to give her room, though he didn’t go back behind the bar just yet. “If this place kicked out all the hot girls that came in and started fights, it’d slowly turn int’a gay club.” He added, just to let her know the rest of her night would be safe. If it became a gay club, he’d certainly get less company coming home, but Kit was sure he’d get more tips. Plus, Frank would probably visit more.
“You like vodka, tequila, what?” He took a few steps away, slowly going back to his post, though he turned his head to smirk at her. “We’ll take some shots, and you can tell me ‘bout why you got that whole pirate thing goin' on.”

Eventually, Kitty plucked up the courage to look up at everyone else in the club. People were looking, but it wasn't as if the whole club was staring at her as she first thought. It helped her calm down even more, but her heart sank a little when the bouncer came over. The last thing she needed was to be kicked out or even worst, banned. This was the only half-decent club in town. She was thankful when the other wolf ushered him away. “I think that bitch did it.” Kitty gave him a weak smile, glancing over at the other girl. She didn't stare for too long as she didn't want anything to kick off again. The wolf felt bad for what had happened but she wasn't about to skip over to apologize. The girl would be fine. She only hit the floor, and humans were very durable. Worst case scenario, she would have a bruise. It was a good job Kitty hadn't launched her down to some stairs, or over a balcony. She wasn't sure what would have happened if she had gone full wolf moments ago. Would the cops come and shoot her down? Would she be taken to a weird facility and have medical experiments done on her? A drink sounded good though. Once the guy let go of her arm Kitty straightened herself up a little. She rubbed her hands against her black jeans, to get rid of the dry blood on her palms. The wounds had already healed over, something she was still getting her head around. The fact she just healed so easily. Kitty flicked her wavy hair back and gave the stranger a reassuring smile. A smile that said "I'm okay" because she was. “If this place kicked out all the hot girls that came in and started fights, it’d slowly turn int’a gay club.” Kitty arched her brow and laughed. She never pitched herself as hot. She always thought of herself as being too much of a tomboy to be considered hot, as she wasn't about the high heels and tiny skirts and dresses. Jeans and boots were more her style. Nor did she wear a lot of makeup, or style her hair properly, although that evening she did put a bit of lipstick on to make an effort, and threw some gel in her hair to tame it. The lipstick had worn off by now though. She didn’t think to bring it with her. “You like vodka, tequila, what?” The younger wolf shrugged, "Surprise me" She replied. She wasn't fussy. She began to follow in his footsteps back towards the bar, “We’ll take some shots, and you can tell me ‘bout why you got that whole pirate thing goin' on.” Pirate? Kitty chuckled. It wasn't the first time she had been called that, but it never offended her. The eyepatch was part of who she was now, and she embraced it. Kitty pulled herself up onto a stool at the end of the bar. She put her leather jacket on earlier to keep her warm, but now it was proving to do its job too well. She pulled it off quickly and put it on the bar. The breeze that swept through the club was refreshing. "I'm Kitana by the way, but you can call me Kitty, or Kit, or even pirate girl if you want" She stated, as the stranger appeared on the other side of the bar. The anger had disappeared, for now, and she was back to being her chatty energetic self. KIT CLARKE

━ nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky ━ Kit didn’t think about possibly offending her over his ‘pirate’ comment. He’d never seen anybody wear one of those outside of movies, and she was way too late (or early) for Halloween. Maybe she actually needed it, and it wasn’t just for decoration, but that hadn’t immediately come to his mind. He had a question, so it spilled out as easily as any other words from his mouth. If she got offended, so be it. He just saved her ass, he’d been nice enough for the night.
The older, taller werewolf moved back behind the bar, trusting her to follow while his back was turned. He pulled out two shot glasses and a bottle of Cognac, figuring they could go for something a little more unique, considering. Kit placed them down in front of where she was sitting, pouring each to the rim, his eyes going wide as he finished, brows raising. “No shit, really? My name’s Kit. That’s fuckin’ hilarious,” He chuckled, a wide grin breaking his face in two. The bottle went back to its place, and he rested his elbows on the edge of the bar, leaning towards her. “Two fuckin’ wolves named Kit━what’re the chances, huh?”
Fingers wrapped around the shot glass, and Kit raised it before clinking it to the side of her own. He tossed his head back and swallowed down the entire ounce of Hennessy, grimacing for only a minute. “Fuck, it’s like a rap video in this joint. Gonna raise Tupac from the grave, a white dude and an Asian chick shooting Henny.” He snorted, settling back onto the bar once he’d recovered from his shot. “So, pirate girl, you here just to beat up other chicks or do you wanna actually have some fun tonight?” He asked, a sly grin pulling his lips up at the edges again.

Cognac? Fancy shit, which she had never drunk before. Before she could take the shot glass, the other werewolf mentioned he was also called Kit "No fucking way!" Kitty exclaimed, before laughing, "That's weird as hell" She had never met another Kit before. Her mind wandered as she thought about what Kit could be short for, but came up with nothing. She was too buzzing over the fact she had just met another werewolf called Kit. The wolf was easily excited. Kitty reached for the shot glass, tapping it against Kit's, and knocked back the dark liquid. Her expression didn't falter. She was used to drinking cheap vodka which tasted like paint stripper. This stuff was actually nice. "Half Asian chick" She grinned, as she placed the shot glass back down. Her knowledge of rap music was limited, she was more into the heavy stuff, but she knew who Tupac was. Everyone knew who Tupac was right? "So, pirate girl, you here just to beat up other chicks or do you wanna actually have some fun tonight?” "Nah, I'm all done with beating chicks up now, and ready to have some fun!" There was an emphasis on the word fun as Kitty tapped her hands loudly on the side of the counter. She knew some of her coursemates were sat elsewhere, but they could wait for now. Deep down she had a million questions she wanted to ask Kit but was resisting the urge to throw them at him. She was happy to have a few drinks with him for now though. "Hit me up with a double vodka coke please" She slipped her hand into her jean pocket and pulled out a stack of cards. The girl really needed to invest in a purse. She drew her debit card out. Kitty wanted to make it clear she was intending to pay for the drink. She wasn't a freeloader, "I guess I owe you a drink too for saving my ass back there. Unless you get them for free in this joint, then I'll write it down on my IOU list" A list which was ever-growing, from owing money to her sisters to owing her flatmate a loaf of bread, but since Kit helped her out she was willing to push him to the top of the list. ━ nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky ━ Kit wasn’t a liquor connoisseur. He didn’t give a shit about what it tasted like as long as it’d get him sloshed, mind fuzzy enough to ward off the nightmares for at least a few hours. He knew why Hennessy was described as ‘fruity’, though. There was a thick, almost vibrant taste to it, something that resembled fruit if they’d gotten it very wrong. It burned as it went down, like it always did, his lips pulling down at the sides while he sighed through the after-effects. A drink with another werewolf named Kit━now that deserved a fancier type of alcohol.
‘Half Asian chick.’
She corrected, making Kit raise his brows at her, the shot glass clinking as he set it down on the counter. “So, still Asian then,” He snorted, dark brows coming together. He didn’t understand the difference or the reason she’d corrected him on it. Hadn’t they said the same thing? Kit wasn’t really up to date on that type of shit, nor did he really care.
Thick, muscular and tattooed arms curled onto the counter’s edge as Kit leaned down, settling in front of Kitty. He assumed she’d understood what he’d meant by ‘fun’ and gave her a charming, toothy grin, watching as she pulled out her cards and ordered another drink. His post-shift company was set for the night, or so he thought.
“Not supposta get ‘em for free, but I’ll take it if you’re offerin’.” He chuckled, leaning back to get started on her drink. A double shot of vodka, and then he squeezed the trigger of their soda gun, filling up the rest of the cup with Coca Cola. Adding a lime wedge onto the rim, Kit placed it in front of her, and then made himself a rum and coke, taking a sip from it before reaching for the nearby debit machine. Kit punched in the bare minimum for the drinks, only charging her for two vodka sodas instead of what was actually ordered, and leaving out the shots, as well. He placed the machine in front of her, wishing he could just put it all on the house, but Kit figured that wouldn’t be very supervisorial of him. He wasn’t going to keep charging the girl he was planning to take home, though.
“You wanna do another shot?” Kit asked, “Somethin’ else now, since we switched,” He chuckled, raising the vodka bottle in offering, shaking it lightly as he held it up. He poured himself a shot of rum, ready to take it alone if need be. “I don’t get off ‘til we close; you good to wait or what?” He asked bluntly, not feeling the need to beat around the bush.

“So, still Asian then,” Kitty laughed, and nodded in response. Her grandmother was always keen to teach her more about her heritage and spent hours trying to teach Kitty and her sisters Japanese when they were children, but at times it was just a painful reminder of her mother, who was no longer with them. As she got older she pushed herself to try and learn more Japanese to keep her grandmother happy and proud. The young werewolf watched as Kit turned back to make their drinks. "I won't tell if you don't" She smiled. She then glanced back over her shoulder to see if her coursemates were still sat in the same place, which they were. She slid her phone out of her jean pocket to see a text message from one of the girls, "Where are you?" She placed her phone down on the bar, as Kit placed the card machine in front of her. She didn't pay attention to the amount of the screen, she just tapped her card before pushing the card back into her pocket. As tempting as another shot was, Kitty knew she had to go and see her coursemates. It would be rude of her to ignore them all night to do shots with Kit. "I'm good for now" She took a sip of her drink. “I don’t get off ‘til we close; you good to wait or what?” Kitty was a little surprised by his comment. Was he coming onto her? Inviting her back to his? His proposal was tempting, but she had come out to have fun with her coursemates. Truthfully, Kitty had not looked at the other werewolf in that way yet, she had been so wrapped up nearly shifting in the middle of a nightclub, but as she mulled over his question in her head she realized he was hot. The muscles, the tattoos, the hair. He was the type of man she'd go for, and she was flattered by his question to go back with him. Kitty elevated herself slightly and leaned forward on the bar, "I already have other plans tonight. I'm here to meet some friends" It killed her to say that, "But..." She picked her phone up off the bar, "Pop your number in my phone and I'll hit you up sometime" Kitty tapped her pin in to unlock her phone before holding it out for Kit to take, "And maybe you can give me some pointers on how to control my temper a little better?" She didn't even know if Kit was good at controlling his anger or not, but he seemed to know what to do with her in the situation earlier. She didn't want something like that happening again. ━ nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky ━ ‘I’m good for now.’
Kit shrugged, filling the shot glass to the rim before setting the bottle aside. He grabbed it and tossed his head back, swallowing down the rum with ease. A slow inhale of breath through his teeth, and then he was chasing it with a heavy mouthful of the mixed drink he’d made.
The larger werewolf leaned down onto the bar, spitting out the unbridled question with ease. It didn’t matter that they’d just met━she’d said herself that she was ready to have some fun, and Kit assumed she knew what he was referring to. All of the women he brought home were nothing more than strangers, though he usually didn’t stop them from going all werewolf-y beforehand. It didn’t bring another tie to this one━at least, Kit didn’t think so. He wasn’t connected to anybody in Mystic Falls except for Frank (and maybe Magda), and he liked it that way. He wasn’t trying to make friends or have much responsibility━other than this job, which appeased his parole officer and helped him pay for his living arrangements.
So, when she suddenly turned him down and instead asked for his number, Kit was reluctant to give it. If a girl ever asked, or gave him hers, he would either give them a fake one, not reply, or block her number if she didn’t get the hint. He took a moment to raise his brows at her, wondering where they’d gone wrong━did she assume that by fun he meant drinking? Really? What kind of innocent thinking was that?
‘And maybe you can give me some pointers on how to control my temper a little better?’
“Yeah,” Kit mumbled, reaching over to grab her phone. He wasn’t looking to teach some little wolf about control━probably wasn’t even qualified for it━but if he was in a pinch later on and needed somebody to help him chase off the nightmares, then maybe she wouldn’t be such a bad option. He typed in his number and handed back the phone, giving her a friendly grin. “Hope ya have fun with your friends. Try not to rip out any throats,” Kit joked, pushing away from the counter. He scooped up his drink and took another sip, nodding upwards in place of a ‘goodbye’. Kit made his way down the length of the bar, searching for more temporary company.
